i just can't imagine finding anything cute at marshalls. this was the first time i'd ever been in one and the very first thing i saw was a pair of hideous "house of dereon" jeans that looked like a middle school home ec student had figured out the measurements. next, i came across some jeans under the paris hilton brand. who knew paris hilton made jeans? they were hi-liter yellow. hideous, and i LIKE colored denim. on to the accessories. really ugly betseyville bags. one had huge drag queen faces all over it. i actually own a plastic surgery nightmare drag queen mask, don't ask, and these were even uglier and more frightening than that. i guess this store could appeal to someone who just wants to get a name brand item for $5, regardless of how ugly and tacky it is. i've actually seen 3 different girls with the nasty drag queen tote. read more

DONT SHOP HERE!!! I live just across the street and used to go there all the time, till next time: I did some shopping and two days later went there to return two items from a big list of 12. Went I got there talked to the cashier (a really rude guy) who took a look to the receipt and said: one of the items is not listed here, so you can not return it (the cheapest one). But I knew that I had shopping it all together so I keep insisting to him to double check. So he told me: "maybe we didnt charge you this one..." AS IF!!!!!!!!! Thank God Im not stupid enough to think they will be giving things away like this so I asked for the manager who ALSO could not find the item in the receipt! After being humiliate by booth I noticed that one of the items I was returning had beeb charged TWICE!!!!! So instead of paying for a expensive one and a cheap one I had pay TWICE for the most expensive one (had the same code, everything charged twice!!!). I even told the cashier: "yeah, off course you would NOT charge me for a piece.... This never happens!! You DID charge me twice for the most expensive of all..." I will never shopping here again!!!!! read more

Great little discount store. Love coming here for doggie stuff and home decor. The staff is nice and I can get stuff that are not in the other stores. Parking is a little tight in the center so I like to come during non busy hours. read more

One thing I've noticed is that a lot of dog owners are bringing their pets into the store and that these dogs are not service animals. A few times I have even seen unleashed dogs. This is very unsanitary. I have confronted the employees but they don't consider the dogs to be a problem even though non -service dogs are not authorized. The employee says that questions are usually not asked for fear of violating ADA. This is untrue. An employee must simply be tactful and not ask any questions about the disability itself. Either control your store or lose customers. read more

I've been coming to this location since the 90's. Before the many face lifts it's had thru the years. Present day since I live in the neighborhood I come quite often, usually before buying groceries at TJ's. Sadly I never find clothes or shoes. Usually I'll find a perfume for a steal and work out clothes. That's it. I find the clothes to be either outdated looking or resort/vacation wear. Nothing exciting. Shoes are kind of boring and over-priced. I'm in my late 30s so I'm talking about the misses section. For apparel, I have better luck at Nordstrom Rack, Ross, JCPenny's and Target. This place is sort of a dead zone in that department. read more

I know it's a close-out store, but this particular location is insane. It made me feel claustrophobic and anxious....3/4 of the way to hives. Also there was an obstacle course on the main aisle consisting of empty clothes racks, shopping carts full of junk and hopeless bargain shoppers trapped in the chaos. I had to macguyver my way out with a clothes hanger, a neon green bikini top and some duct tape I found in the accessory department. read more

My wife and I were about to buy a large amount of goods here when we over heard a manager getting on an employee she was very rude and doing it in the open for something mundane. I love to shop and I also love a good deal! I visited the Mission Valley store looking for a beach bag and beach towels. I was promptly greeted when I walked in and was then approached by several employees to make sure I was finding things ok. I had a friendly conversation with the employee in the shoe department and another employee helped me find a beach bag. This Marshall's had the friendliest most helpful employees! They have great deals and amazing clothes(when you look around very well all over) I have never expirences this store super neat and clean its always a bit messy to me. That's why I rated it so low because great price and clothes is. Awsome but not when u have to search the whole store because it seems to be out of place. As for the line here I've never expirences a longer wait in line over 5min witch is great. Overall I've been to better locations got n and out way faster and happier because place wasn't so disorganized. read more

Love this Marshall's. If you're looking for cute shoes they often have the exact same ones that are right next door at DSW but for $20 less. I've actually bought shoes at DSW, found them here for less, and then went back and returned the first pair. Home goods are fun to poke through, but if you're looking for a specific clothing item it can be daunting and hard to wade through all the not so great stuff. Great yoga supplies too! My mat and yoga blocks came from here and I get compliments on my carrying case all the time. read more

Extremely rude and lazy staff. The line was out the door and the workers (including the manager) did nothing to speed up the process and weren't apologetic or seemed to care at all that we waited so long just for ONE pair of shoes. The blonde woman who helped us was beyond rude and was constantly rolling her eyes and acting like her job there was the worst thing ever. I work in customer service so I'm usually very understanding of these situations but this was painful. read more

This one is centrally located in Mission Valley and TONS of people shopping here, there's ALWAYS a line.

I love this Marshalls! It has a great variety of things and I really enjoy walking up and down the aisles trying to find things. Most of the time I walk out with more stuff than I ever intended. I like the different types of things that they have. I bought dresses from there, hair supplies, furniture and so much more. The new halloween decorations are cute but I think other stores with similar merchandise (like home goods) have much more to offer with season decorations. read more

A friend had recommended me to go to marshals because my brother just had his baby. my friend wasn't completely wrong about Marshals because I've been to the one in h st at it had a good select. I came to the marshals in mission valley expecting the same thing but they had such a small selection of baby clothes and didn't really have much baby essentials. So I had to go to target to get the remaining items. Overall the price is responsible and staff are friendly. read more

DONT SHOP AT THIS MARSHALLS! I recently fell in love with Marshalls and decided to stop at the one in Mission Valley while I was in the area to check out their purse selection. This was yesterday evening (5/17/17). I wanted to invest in a brand name purse but also didnt want to spend the crazy money you would in the mall. I had an employee hold 5 Michael Kor purses for me at the front while I continued to shop. When I got the register, Lauryn, my cashier greeted me and asked how she could help. I told her I had some Michael Kor purses on hold. She said "Okay, I'll be right back but if you are paying with a credit card, I am going to need a VALID ID". I thought in my head, why did she say "Valid" Id? Did she just assume that I would have a fake ID because I want to buy some Michael Kor purses? and why did she assume I would pay with a credit card and not cash or debit? I had all these questions in my head and tried not to overthink it. She comes back and asked if I wanted to sign up for their credit card. I told her no, I like to keep my good credit and do not need any more credit cards. She tells me, "It would affect your credit. You will get 10% off your order today" I told her "no, that's okay." She responds with "But doesnt it make sense if its going to save you over $30? You ARE buying these purses right?" I started to get annoyed but didnt show it. I asked if I could look at them in front of a mirror because I was only planning to get 3 of the 5 that were on hold. She tells me yes but she had to be present. I told her that is fine. She walked me over to a mirror and before handing me a purse, she asked me again "Are you sure you dont want to sign up for the Marshalls credit card? Its going to save you a lot of money". Again I told her "no, I'm sure". She hands me a purse at a time and watched me as I was looking at them in the mirror. I asked if I can hold 2 of them so I can compare it in the mirror and she tells me "no, its our policy, you can only hold one purse at a time, thats why we hold these purses in the front. You're not even allowed to walk around with them in the store". At this point, I am feeling real uncomfortable and did not understand what the big deal was. I understand they dont want you walking around with an expensive purse that isnt paid for but I am only trying to look at it in the mirror with her standing beside me, it should not be a big deal like she was making it out to be. I'm trying to spend my hard earned money at this store and they are treating me like I'm going to steal. I tell her I'm ready to check out and selected 3 out of the 5 she was hold for me. She rings up one purse and says, "this one alone is $129, you sure you dont want to sign up for a credit card?" i wanted to pull my hair out. Why cant she take NO for an answer. This was the 4th or 5th time she kept asking me if I wanted a Marshalls credit card. I told her no thank you once more. As she rings me up, she is digging inside the purse to make sure nothing is inside. She has rang up another person right before me who was buying a name brand purse and I did not see her digging her arm in their purse. She checked all three of my purses inside and out to make sure their was no additional merchandise in it. When I handed her my ID and credit, she held it real close to her face and was really matching my ID to my credit card but with the lady before me, she simply glanced over it and rang the lady up. But with me, she took my cards out of my hand. Why was she doing the most with me? After I paid for the purses, I felt the buyers remorse coming. Not because of how much I spent but because of how I was treated. I FELT HARASSED AND DISCRIMINATED AGAINST. I HAD THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE and I should've left the purse and not give this Marshalls a penny of my money. read more

Worst customer service ever! I bought 3 plates from here for 12.99 each and came back to return them, she said she will give me 7.99 for each bcz that's the lowest price they are selling right now. Then as I was shopping, I found them for 10.00 on clearance so I took them up to the front and she tells me bcz I returned them for 7.99 there's nothing she can do about it. I was lied to by this stupid manager and now "there's nothing she can do for me"!!!! Bullshit I hate injustice. I will never go back to this place again. read more

The only reason I gave this Marshalls a 1 star is for their versatile home section. You can find a lot of cute things for the home. However, the apparel section is SAD. Im not a fashionista but I like to dress somewhat trendy. Im a woman in my 30's so Im not asking for Forever21 clothes, just better looking apparel. The selection here lacks in every sense of the word. The clothes are frumpy, boring, outdated, and just lackluster. I don't understand. Ive been to other Marshalls and have found them to have much cuter clothes. I would think that for being in SD where everyone is usually trendy they would try to sell nicer clothes. Guess not. And Ive been here multiple times hoping to find something but its never the case so It cant just be that they sell out of he nice stuff. This store has alot of potential but sadly it doesn't live up to its location or TjMaxx sister stores. read more

I'm from Texas so my marshalls standards are really high. It's hard to walk out of one there without a bag full of stuff you don't need. Whenever I get to visit (rarely) I buy tons and tons and try to tell myself don't worry about the money because we don't have marshalls like this in California. Point being that I love marshalls- just not this one. Back to the review: this marshalls is nothing like what I'm used to. You have to try hard to find anything. The dress section is one circular rack. Good luck. The shoes are pathetic. I honestly stopped even going over there, there's no reason. The candle section is worse than a ross. All kinds of old looking candles scattered around without lids. Homewares are often broken. Purses are locked to the shelves and you're supposed to call an associate over to hold one. Up front there's a weird shelf by the exit full of broken jewelry. The deal with this marshalls is that there's always the same crap and you can tell when something new comes in because there's like 50 of that item. Soon all 50 are scooped up because the shoppers aren't used to seeing anything decent. Then you're left with that same crap again. This place is a ross in disguise. read more

Ok, let me start off this review by saying, THIS MARSHALLS IS TERRIBLE!! I went in to return a few pairs of pants I received as a gift. They say that it won't be a problem until the salesman doesn't even have his card to get into the register! So the guy literally tosses my pants to another lady and tells her to return these for him. She starts laughing and he goes over and they start chatting for like 10 minutes!! I finally approach them and ask them what the problem is. They say they don't think these pants were purchased here. I showed them that they tags were still attached with the Marshalls logo on them. I asked to see the manager and after chatting with the two sales people for a few minutes he gave me the same response. I told them to give me back the pants and I walked right out of the door. A few days later I went to the Mira Mesa store and I returned everything and was out the door within 10 minutes. I will never go to this location EVER AGAIN! read more

hit or miss. i gave it an extra star since they re-vamped the place within the past year and tried to make it better in there, including a new reg check out area. good selection of home goods and designer purses. i usually don't even attempt to look at the clothes anymore since its always a hot mess in those area's. read more
