Great place for speed of repairs and price point. Usually get your bike back to you much faster than competing bike shops in the Cale and Islands. They also service and understand and appreciate vintage Schwinns, which is a plus. read more

Worst customer service of any shop around. Staff doesn't know what items they sell. Have given this shop a lot of chances over the years and have always left with a horrible taste in my mouth. They treat people like they don't know what they're talking about. I've worked at shops for over 20 years and would never have talked to anyone the way I was talked to. It's too bad, shops like this one give bike shops a bad name, and push more and more people just order parts online. If this review deters one person, it's done it's task. This review comes after a single visit, but it was quite the visit indeed. When I was trying to hunt down some tires for my bike I tried lots of places far and wide, but mainly used the hunt to visit and find cool new Bike shops. This is definitely one of them but not for the typical reasons. You won't find any young hip kids wrenching here and talking about their fixies. You won't find lots of cool news bikes piled up to the ceiling. You won't find the big-dollar items and carbon fiber bikes hanging from the walls. What you will more than likely find is an older gentleman named Ed. Ed owns Martha's and in fact there isn't any Martha truth be told. The name has been retained from the previous owner when ED took over a long time ago. Ed used to work for the Schwinn bike company back in its heyday long before it turned into a name slapped on Wal-Mart bikes. He's a man long involved with the bike industry and knows it very well from both the inside and outside. He was nice enough to spend a few hours chatting with me on a slow afternoon recently and open my eyes with some truly great stories. I didn't wind up finding the tires I was looking for, but I did leave the shop quite a bit more knowledgeable than when I walked in and that made the trip more than worthwhile. Martha's, because of the local demographic, focuses on mid-range and lower-end stuff from Trek and Gary Fisher and a couple of other companies. However, Ed can get anything you want if you need it so if you desire that $8,000 Trek road bike he can get it for you. Overall though they keep a modest inventory in their clean and roomy shop. While this isn't a place you'd probably want to seek out if you live in Boston, if you're a local in the area it's probably one of your best bets for service or info. In a time where helpful and friendly service is an increasing rarity Martha's comes through in a big way and that speaks more to me than a shop with 1000 bikes and 10 clueless teen salesmen. read more

I live just down the street and visit Martha's every 4-6 weeks. These guys are the best bike shop I've been to. One of the things I love about the shop is they really take the time to get to know their customers. Education is a huge part of the value of going to Martha's. They have a decent sized consignment area at the shop which they don't advertise online. Prices and turnaround time for repairs and service seem fair to me. Highly recommend Martha's. read more

I'd like to second David's review of a very helpful place even when you're not buying anything. (Or at least didn't think you were. :D) I forgot to get a name, but I'm guessing my family and I also dealt with Ed. Gave us a ton of great information on sizing bikes for my wife and I and spent a lot of time explaining various styles of bikes. Nice, no-pressure experience and we ended up buying a used children's bike in good shape almost as a "Thank you" for spending so much time with us. We live on the Cape and may be back to buy bikes for my wife and I. Would rather pay a few extra dollars for a bike and have a knowledgeable staff than a few of the other places we visited around the area. read more

I was out riding yesterday, and my front brake was dragging against the wheel. It felt like I was peddling up a steep hill. Martha's was on my route, so I stopped in and asked if they could take a look at it. A really nice guy looked at it right away and fixed it in about 10 minutes. Now it glides like a charm. My friend was visiting from California and we rented bicycles without having too much of a plan. These guys were so helpful in showing us where to go, and even bailed us out (AND gave us water) when we had a flat tire miles away from where we started. Prices were reasonable, and bikes were in great condition. There is a little cafe across the street that is also worth checking out for good home cooking breakfast food. read more

3.5 stars. Nice clean store and helpful sales people, however when I left a new bike there for a minor installation, I had to call a week later to see if it was done. It wasn't, but my call did get them working on the bike. read more
