Late night - line. The only real downside to Martha's is the service. It is inconsistent and pretty trash to be honest. Sometimes you're waiting forever even though there's no one in front of you and other times, you haven't even seen all the options before someone's asking for your order. There's no labeling so you have to ask what this is and what that is and so does everyone else. If you only care about the product, then go for it. It's goooood dessert. read more

Not my first time at Martha's, but this warranted a review. The sign at the entrance says "Wait to be seated," but no one greeted us so we had to interrupt a staff member on their phone just to be acknowledged. Once seated, we were completely ignored. My friend and I were the only customers seated inside. I had to get up to ask for dessert and tea, and even then, the staff seemed visibly annoyed, speaking rudely and rolling their eyes at me multiple times. When I asked for a slice of cake to go, they took it from a fridge that had been left open the entire time we were there, which was about an hour. To top it off, when my friend got up to pay, the staff rolled their eyes at her too, just for asking for the check. On a casual Tuesday night, my friend and I decided to go to Martha's for some dessert and coffee. The ambiance was filled with delicious desserts, cakes, and the aroma of caffeine in the air. We were able to get seating right away and the waitress took our orders. Unfortunately, to my surprise the carrot cake looked and tasted different than prior visits. It didn't have the carrot design on top and has more layers than usual. I continued to give it the benefit of the doubt and when I looked towards the display I saw the carrot cake I usually get...my friend tasted it and said it tasted like carrot cake but it did look different than the one displayed. To our surprise when we asked the waitress she said the one displayed is the vegan one and they've gotten complaints from guests before about not wanting that one. Now, I know I'll have to ask for the vegan one which I personally think is wayyyyyyy tastier! The regular one was missing something and we couldn't put our finger on it. I love Martha's but they always give me the wrong order. I realized after I brought the goodies to the office. I clarified 3 times what I wanted and still somehow got the wrong slices. People ate them anyways and said one of the slices of cake was stale. It was expensive and the fact that it's not the first time they got an order wrong is concerning. If I lived in NY, my paychecks would probably end up just going straight to this place. They have multiple locations and for good reason, the pastries and desserts they sell here are unbelievably delicious! I was recently in NY and hadn't been to this place since the last time I was (over 4 years ago) so I made it a mission to stop here during the trip. Parking was a little tricky to find but once I did, I flew into the place. The staff here is very friendly and you are waited on if you choose to eat there. If not, you can just go to the counter and order to-go right from there! This trip I ordered their chocolate chip cookies, which are massive and phenomenal! The flavor is amazing with the right amount of sweeteness to it and they were soft! I also got a slice of creme Brule cheesecake and I can never have another slice anywhere else without comparing it to this places' slice! It was the perfect creamy to sweetness ratio! The only reason I deducted a star is because the place has a bit steep prices when it comes to their place. 11 for three cookies is a little excessive even though they're some of the best cookies. We've been fans of Martha's since it opened its Bayside location many years ago. You know it's good when it's constantly packed. There's almost always a line for those who want to take their cakes home. My wife and I usually try come here during off peak hours, pick up a few slices of cake, and bring them home to eat. Our favorites are the Tiramisu, Red Velvet, Chocolate layered cake, berry Napoleon, etc. Service is always good. Parking on Bell Blvd can be a pain. If we can't find parking, I just drop my wife off and then go find a semi-legal spot somewhere to wait for her to finish making her purchase. Then, I swing around to pick her up. Bought 4 different slices on 6/19 around 11PM for my family. First thing we noticed was the cream in strawberry short cake tasted quite "heavy" and was off from the Norm, then my slice of Flan was extremely soft, almost like half melted butter... so we were all like ... maybe they have a different pastry chef ? .... And the 7 layer chocolate was a bit off too ... we didn't mind much and continued to eat them Before midnight. I broke out in hives and started having stomach pain but I didn't think much of it, took another shower, a Benadryl and went to sleep. However, every time I've gone in there the staff has accommodated me as quickly and efficiently as humanly possible and I commend them for it. I bought a birthday cake recently, I was in a big hurry, and the lovely employee threw in a few candles "in case I didn't have any." Martha's bakery never fails! LOVE the tiramisu and the strawberry shortcake slice. They are quite sweet but not as much as their mousse and cheesecake counterparts. They make custom cakes! They have a small selection of vegan items (carrot cake, vanilla/chocolate cupcakes) they can be found in the front to middle section by the cashier. If you have a sweet tooth, definitely come here. I feel fortunate not to live nearby otherwise I will be a balloon lol. The staff will have to roll me down the bus stop haha. Macadamia cookies are bomb, also sweet. I haven't tried any of their loaves, muffins, etc so I can't really say. Great staff, you can always ask. Yes, the lines get long but they move fast. The to-go line can be long during peak after dinner times, but they tend to move quick. It's a tease to look at the desserts behind the glass while you're on the to-go line. I came here to pick up some cakes for the company. My only gripe is that they should have names up front so you can tell them what you want exactly. Sometimes they have new sweets and I don't have a clue what it is but may want to try.
