While driving through New Kent I saw this cute little place which was memorable enough to stop at on the way back by. The restaurant is an adorable farmhouse-looking historic building with down-home southern kitchen. The restaurant was relatively busy on Thursday evening at 7pm and we waited just a few minutes for a table to get set. The service provided by Desirae was friendly and attentive. I was expecting a bit of a wait but was really surprised at how fast the food came out. They have a full bar and a whole list of whiskey drinks. My Fiance got the blueberry bourbon smash. They also have a whiskey flight for those interested. More about the food.. There are so many attractive looking dishes on the menu but I love that many of the plates include three sides!! I chose the grilled lemon pepper chickent (which includes two chickent breasts) collards, broccolini and the mac and cheese. All were so so tasty. I cleaned my plate and was quite full afterwards. My Fiance got the hot honey chicken, glazed carrots, mash potatoes and a garlic cheddar biscuit. Our food came out and our server alerted him that fresh biscuits were just about to come out of the oven but they provided him some corn bread with the plate. I appreciated the thoughtfulness of giving him something while he waited. The biscuit(s) came shortly thereafter and was hot/fresh and sooo damn good. Two spoonful size biscuits. Lovely place for a great meal and service.

We came here after being at Busch gardens for 4hrs, so we were tired and hungry. However, things still weren't as polished as they could have been. Upon entry, we were greeted and seated promptly. But then we sat for awhile waiting on our server, and there was only ONE other table eating. So after while, a server came over and said they were going through shift change and they're waiting on the other server to arrive but she would take our drinks for now. Hmmm okay, why she couldn't just wait on us until then idk. So she brought our drinks back and we waited some more. The same server came back and said well I'll take your orders too. We ordered the buffalo chicken dip appetizer which the waiter recommended, but it definitely was more cream cheese than anything. It needed more buffalo and chicken, wayyyy to creamy. For entrees we got 2 salmons, fried chicken, and the kids fish nuggets. The salmon and collard greens were good, but the squash/zucchini was just okay. I wouldn't order it again. My mom said the fried chicken and okra was good, but again the squash/zucchini left something to be desired. The kids fish nuggets weren't really nuggets, they were 2 big pieces of fried fish, I'm not sure how they were, but the fries were good. This place is located in a big historic house and is cute and has potential. I think we just came on an off day (server wise) but once we were waited on and then the new server came they were attentive. The food was mostly good. I probably wouldn't come back since we were just out this way for BG but if you're in the area you should check it out.

Was highly recommended from The Vaiden Inn B&B across the street (was good after having a few drinks, dinner and a whiskey flight!). I'm not 199% sure if our reservation was really needed, but we booked for 5:30pm and it wasn't busy yet, but by the time we left it was full! The B&B recommended the trout; I was very much interested in the southern fried steak (which they were out of). Our server recommended the fried chicken (my wife got this) and the grilled salmon (I got this). The salmon was good but not NEARLY as good as the fried chicken (which did have a sumptuous spicy honey!!!) . For sides, we got a good variety- shoestring fries, mashed potatoes (brown gravy on side), zucchini and squash, fried okra, collards and Mac and cheese. Honestly they *all* were great, only comment is that the collards were more vinegary than we cared for. To start, we had the fried green tomatoes- good but I must say we have had better. My wife had a cocktail (blueberry smash I think? Whiskey with ginger beer, etc) that she really liked. The Whiskey flight was a spur of the moment try....not something we ever get and was almost a random selection. Have to say say the two rye whiskeys were not either of our favorites but we really just don't drink st t straight whiskey much Service was fast and quick to bring out *except* she misunderstood that I actually did order for us the Whiskey flight so we had to ask and it came late (like with the entrees). Oh well. Enough to be full and have to carry back leftovers!!!

What a Fab Christmasy Lunch!!! One of the best kept secrets of lunch off 64! In and out quick! Fried Chicken would make a bulldog break her chain!!! The fried okra needs no sauce. Servers smiles are so big they could swallow their ears!! We are gonna have to add this to the destination lunch spot!

This was a lovely little stop in a tiny town that barely exists. It's in a historic old house with great ambience. The food was phenomenal! The fried chicken was delicious with a flavorful and crispy batter and the fried okra was amazing. We fought over the last few bites. The buffalo chicken sandwich has the same fried chicken inside. My daughter had the grilled cheese and she mostly ate the inside but seemed happy. The glazed carrots were baby carrots with some sort of sweet marinade. Overall, it was a great spot and we'll certainly be back!

Four and a half stars! This is one of those places that left me wanting more, but in a very good way. First though, our hostess/waitress/busboy was the only person working the floor that night, and she did a FANTASTIC job. Her timing was pretty much perfect for everything, for every single table that was there. I don't know how she did it, except to say that she did it with a smile and a wonderful attitude. The food was great. The crab cakes were well portioned. The house only improvement I would add would be to increase the size of the sides. Most places will try to hide the size of their entrees by increasing the size of the vegetable portion. Martha's is the opposite. Good size entrees, and small portions of veggies. Luckily, they were delicious. This is definitely a restaurant that I'll go back to again and again.

From the friendly welcome and warm greeting by our server, to the wide array of selections on the menu and delicious aroma, we were ready to order. I went with the staple of the pork bbq sandwich and fries. I was originally considering the brisket due to a couple of reviews, but first time at any bbq place, I typically go for this staple. I was certainly not disappointed. The amount of meat and slaw was the perfect balance. The fries were hot and seasoned perfectly. Then came the selection of sauces from which to choose. Although the spicy tomato based sauce appears to be the most popular, I love vinegar based sauces, so I went with that one. It was absolutely delectable! I know this place is a little off the beaten path, but if you are driving on I-64 and want to take a relaxing break and grab some food or beverages, this place is perfect for good food and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.

I was tasked with phoning in the reservation (thankfully the meal went better than that debacle)and since we were dining early it wasn't an issue. First of all, there are two places in the property; the Tavern and 5 Fields pizza and beer. We dined at the Tavern. GORGEOUS garden lining the old farmhouse! We went in and were seated inside right away. As it was almost 100 today it was ideal seating. The decore is well.... different. Where we sat was a truck grill from 1928, and there was more of a sports motiff. (If you go and sit in the same room, let me know if you can spot the crooked pic!) Once again, my curse at remembering names of the servers has hit again which is a real sham because she was beyond AWESOME. She was VERY patient with my extremely frustrating mum which was nice. We both got this truly genius idea of an appetizer to start; a veggie boat with a ranch style dressing. Omg it was perfect. Warm day, cruciferous veggies, ice cold drinks. Heaven. Next came the burgers, she got the Tavern burger, I got the Charles City burger. The Tavern has cheddar cheese and bacon, the Charles City has bree cheese and this creamy mojo ajo aoli along with fried shallots....there is probably more but all I know is that I feel like an idiot never having triple creme bree on a burger before. I have to take a moment to also inform you that they make the BEST Cosmo outside of NYC. Perfectly blended and chilled, and just strong enough to celebrate a Friday night. Yowza! One.more thing. They tempted me with a scoop of their home made butter pecan ice cream. I just want to move in and become one with this place it was so good. I haven't had butter pecan this good in 50 years!! After this essay I guess you could say that I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. It's in a beautiful area, lots of parking, great food & ambiance. I couldn't find a single fault.

The crab dip was really good, however the pitas were inconsistently cooked so some were soft and others were overly oily/ crispy. The calamari was very good. And trust me, it lives up to the name. Lee Lee's Comfort Cuisine is tucked on 43rd & Jefferson, right near Chik-A-Sea on 44th. I had the pleasure of visiting & talking with the owners -- beautiful people with amazing energy & welcoming spirits. The 1st time I went, I ordered the Salisbury steak (or chop steak -- call it what you want). It was two PCs of meat for $19.99 and came with two sides & a piece of cornbread. I chose the mac & cheese, sweet potatoes, & added a side of green beans. Baby... listen -- the Salisbury steak had substance! Not that soft, fluffy stuff like Piccadilly's. It was meaty, juicy, & seasoned just right. The sweet potatoes were sweet but not too sweet, & the mac and cheese was creamy, cheesy, & made with love. Now the green beans? I was shocked -- no pork in them, but they were still full of flavor! You'd swear somebody grandma put her foot in 'em. They made me want 2nds! I told my people about it, & the very next day I was back -- got pork chops for my mom, Salisbury steak for my sister, and fried chicken for my friend. And just like b4, everything hit. One day I tried to stop by Piccadilly's for their 2 for $30 deal, but the line was out the door. I ended up back at Lee Lee's, and I was so glad I did. That day, she had roasted chicken with cream of mushroom sauce & some fried fish. She switches it up & even asks her customers what they'd like to see on the weekend menu. She's open every day except Tuesday -- yes, even Sundays & Mondays. She also has a sit-down area, & the place is clean, smells good, & feels welcoming. This used to be Roadside Café, & the vibe is still homey, just fresher. Please go support this young woman & her family. Her food is amazing, the prices are more than reasonable, & the customer service is top-tier. From the owners to the folks walking in, the whole place just feels like community. You won't be disappointed -- it's a must-try. It's a True Taste of Love & Flavor on Jefferson Avenue.

Rocco's Smokehouse kept popping up when we searched for places to eat, so we decided to give it a shot. We weren't really in the mood for barbecue, and they only had ONE steak option, but the menu looked so interesting that we figured, why not? There was about a 15-20 minute wait, which immediately had me thinking, "Okayyy, maybe we made the right choice!" The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and had a great vibe. IMPORTANT: Navigation took us to the wrong location, so pay close attention to the Yelp directions. Rocco's is currently operating from a temporary location. Once we were seated, our waiter was right over to take our drink order. First things first--the sweet tea is MAGNIFICENT! And let me tell you what you NEED to order: Smoked barbecue wings -- MUST ORDER -- absolutely get it! Rocco actually brought it to our table and warned us that we would be hooked and he was right! I originally wanted the lump crab cakes, but I didn't see anyone else ordering them, so I took my waiter's recommendation and went with the brisket quesadillas. GREAT decision! They were juicy, flavorful, and downright scrumptious. My partner ordered Platter #3, which came with ribs, a quarter chicken, and pork barbecue. The chicken was his favorite--he could not stop talking about it! You could really taste that smoky flavor in the meat. The macaroni and cheese was pretty good too. Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised by Rocco's. We went in craving steak and left talking about smoked wings, chicken, brisket, and barbecue! Would I go back? Absolutely!
