My wife and I were driving through Saluda Virginia on the way to Washington DC. We were hungry and and as we were passing Nick's Spaghetti and Steakhouse, we noticed that the parking lot was full at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. A full parking lot usually means that the food is good. We circled back around and pulled in and we are so glad that we did. It was my first time coming into this restaurant. i'm a local and have seen it many times passing by the bridge. i stop in and immediately the atmosphere was giving cheap. this is a steakhouse/italian restaurant i expected it to be a bit fancy, if anything cozy. The best way to describe this place is like going into a golden corral before they renavated. A big open space with basically no one in it but old people. in fact when i arrived with my family member the only people in there were one older couple and the staff. fortunately the staff was pleasant very sweet and friendly that's one thing i'd like to highlight. The menu on the other hand was very odd. i only expected stake and pasta. But there was seafood and... greek food? in my personal opinion the food options were an odd choice to say the least. Never the less i order a greek burger, a salad i think cobb, and an appetizer of mac n cheese bites. the food gets out very quickly which would be great if the food quality was even remotely good. the mac n cheese bites were clearly frozen crap you would buy in bulk. they weren't even hot, they were warm. when i get something fried i expect it to be hot and delicious not mildly warm and have the aftertaste of frost bite. next the salad, it's very hard to get a salad wrong, the taste was fine just like any other salad but as i inspected the ice burg lettuce i noticed some weird black dots on a lot of the pieces. I did not feel comfortable eating anymore of it. just gross. The burger came out and as soon as i saw it i thought "what even is remotely "greek" about this burger. i ordered everything that it comes with except mustard, so i expected SOMETHING different about this burger considering they called it greek but in fact it was just a burger that had lettuce tomato and pickles. I took the bun off of it to inspect it, the burger looked like it was holding on for dear life to not fall apart. so i took a piece off and what do you know it fell apart. looking over that i took a bite and.. literally zero flavor?? if this was addressed as. normal burger my only complaint would be it needed salt and to not fall apart everytime i bite into it. But unfortunately it was addressed as "greek" only god knows why. Oh! and the bread basket oh is just somthing to laugh at. seriously let me ask u this what do u expect the bread to be like at a steak house restaurant? or even a normal restaurant? maybe some nice cheesey bread? maybe even sweet? or just your average joe roll even that would be better than literally giving me a piece of white sliced bread.. yeah like the ones in the plastic at your local grocery store. honestly embarrassing and added a new level of, wow this is just cheap. Nick's is our "Go to place". It's the one place all four of us enjoy. My favorites--the AMAZING Greek salad (get the house Italian dressing--the best EVER), the gyro, hamburger steak, hamburgers, chicken tenders...oh and the fries! Do not waste money here! We spent $75 on Jun 15, 2025. The $37 dollar seafood plate consisted of 2 shrimp, 1 crab cake, 3 scallops! We ordered the children ravioli and there were 4 ravioli(only 4), and a subpar steak that i had to continue cooking when i got home. WE ORDERED 3 THINGS online for $73 with a $5 tip without ever stepping foot in the place. and we got maybe $40 worth of food+quality. read more

What a welcome surprise!!!! I haven't been here in years... not for any particular reason just haven't made it back.... And I went w a group of 7 people for a holiday dinner. Our waitress Erin was amazing!!!! I really cannot say enough great things about her!!! She was very attentive and had her head on a swivel all night! Our drinks were great! I had a gin and soda w lime and it was yummy! Our table ordered seafood dishes, spaghetti, and chicken w vegetables and there were a lot of satisfied people!!! They were very busy tonight and still got our food hot and ready! I would definitely go back here and their take out must be just as wonderful because several people came in for orders!!!!! Staff was friendly and welcoming . On Monday evening 02/15/21 I ordered the hamburger steak with cheese cooked medium baked potato and salad with thousand island dressing . I also order decaffeinated coffee which they brewed freshly for me! I have past this place for 28 years and this is my first time dining at Nicks . I will be coming back to try their spaghetti and veal. I enjoyed the experience. Bathroom were clean and you can tell the bathrooms are attended to regularly throughout the day. read more

My wife and I met with her sister and brother-in-law for a birthday celebration on the evening of November 20th at Nick's Spaghetti and Steak House in Shacklefords, Virginia. Our waiter, Jimmy, came to our table promptly to take our drink order and asked if we wanted any appetizers. Several of us ordered the corn chowder, and we were surprised to find that none of the servings of chowder had more than two or three kernels of corn! I think it unlikely that anyone could guess the type of chowder, had this false claim of it's being CORN chowder not been made on the menu. When I brought this lack of corn in the corn chowder to Jimmy's attention, he seemed amused but not the least bit apologetic. He suggested that the servings must have come from the bottom of the kettle - presumably after other diners had been served recognizable corn chowder. He brought us four rolls that were balanced on a napkin with no bread plates. It seems that the rolls, partially-eaten rolls, and any knives used to put butter on the rolls were to be placed directly on the table without benefit of any bread plates. The shrimp and fish entrees seemed fresh and were properly cooked and presented. We had no criticisms or disappointments regarding the main course offerings. Without bussing our table, Jimmy took our dessert orders and, several minutes later, handed our desserts to us in spite of the fact that there was no place to put our dessert plates due to the presence of dirty dishes from the main course. At my request, he took several plates associated with the main course but not others, and we ate our desserts while looking at shrimp tails and dirty eating utensils. In short, Jimmy seemed to lack the training and the motivation to do a good job. He is seriously in need of a refresher course in appropriate wait-staff behavior and overall customer service. A man I took to be Nick (i.e., the namesake of the restaurant), walked by several tables and seemed inquire as to customer feedback regarding food and services, but he did not visit my party. In short, our experience at Nick's Spaghetti and Steak House deserves barely one star - largely due to quality control issues in the kitchen and inexcusably poor service. read more

We hosted our sons wedding rehearsal dinner at Nicks- 20-30 people and we had one waitress- we were concerned that it was too much for one person boy were we wrong. She was sweet, accommodating and on point! She never once seemed frustrated or overwhelmed and was always smiling. The food was amazing- I can't stress this enough everything was delicious!! Then it was time for the bill and my husband I were so surprised and how such a great meal and experience for that many people could be as affordable as it turned out. Went on a Friday night for the first time as we see the parking lot always packed. They couldn't even do chicken tenders right, and the fries were soggy under seasoned. The fried shrimp was good, but again the mass amount of soggy fries covered the plate. The steak was rubbery even though cooked rare, and there was so much fat on it that it was not worth the price. The spaghetti tasted like chef boyardee out of a can. I don't understand how this place gets such good reviews, as this is one of the worst dining experiences I've had. I ordered the steak and it absolutely had no flavor so I turned it back. Then I ordered mozzarella sticks with chicken tenders and I had one of each. This place seems to not use ANY kind of seasoning. NOTHING had flavor, not even the lasagna that my kid ordered that was served in a blow. It looked more like a soup than a lasagna. Stopped by for dinner as my friend was dying for a fried fish sandwich. I had eaten here before and was not impressed but she wanted to give it a try. after all who could ruin a fish sandwich especially someone this close to excellent fish and crab which west point is know for. I had a crab cake sandwich she had the fish and the meal arrived very quick almost too fast if you know what I mean. Microwave written all over this one. the fish on the bun looked like it was a breaded triangle from Schwans but not that type of quality. Her jaw dropped when she looked at the microwave piece of mush under bread crumbs. she said better fish comes from the food lion frozen section and I agreed. My crab cake was the same. thin breaded fake mush that was tasteless. wow what an experience. if it was not for the glass of wine and the French fries. Like I said I have been there before and had a broiled seafood platter and it was not that good for the large price. we did not complain just ate and left and even tipped 15 percent. We both are good cooks and know you can get the same thing at home but this was some of the worst food I have ever eaten. they should take it off the menu. I will never go back and would not recommend the place to anyone. Really disappointed. I try really hard to look for the good in a place. This is actually my first review. We ate there last night. Both my girls ended up having spaghetti and both got food poisoning. I called because I thought they should know. Not because I was looking for a refund or free food. The manager start it off with how his procedures would not have allowed that to happen. I said I understood and I thought they should just now. Then he decided he could apologize. it really rubbed me wrong. We are no where else. My kid started throwing up in Walmart 2 hrs later. It would've been so much better had he just apologized and then said they would look at their procedures instead of getting defensive right off the bat. I was the one with sick girls living on four hours of sleep. I should've been the one group that was grouchy and rude. Nice place that's been here for a long time. Always very clean. Prices use to be reasonable for a family to dine out here but recently it's a bit expensive for what your getting in food quantity. Nothing has changed it's the same food they have had for 25+ years. Jimmy (the owner) is awesome and when he's there the food seems to be better. But when he's not there it's just not the same quality taste and service. We will always return to this restaurant because it is close by and the food is good. I wish they would bring back the lunch specials like the Gloucester Point location. By far this has been the worst experience ever. I ordered the fried seafood platter ($21.95). The crabcake had so much breading on it and was cooked in old grease. The scallops were extremely rubbery and the fried fish was just as bad. I received 3 shriveled up oysters which I don't eat but was informed was horrible. My family had separate checks and 18% gratuity was still added to each of our bills. To top it all off, my black family was seated all the way in a back room with doors when there were plenty of seats available. When we paid our tabs, we noticed that only white families filled the dining area. When we were about to leave, the older lady comes over to check my mother's receipt to see if she had paid her bill! Imagine it's 1975. You are going out for Sunday dinner. This is the time and place you are sent to when you walk into the doors of this restaurant. We wanted to support a family owned business. So we went to Nick's. The salad was a disappointment. All iceberg lettuce. 2 single onion rounds, two tiny pieces. One tiny slice of cucumber. One tiny piece of tomato. The blue cheese dressing was tasteless. I would not have known it was blue cheese if I wasn't told. I ordered jalepeno poppers for an appetizer. They served it with a bowl of spaghetti sauce to dip in. ??? Strange. For dinner, I ordered the broiled seafood platter. Another disappointment. Small piece of flounder, 2 tiny shrimp, 3 tiny scallops that were like rubber, and 2 small stuffed shrimp. The only saving Grace on the plate - the stuffing was all crab and good. Overall, however, they sprinkled the same paprika based seasoning on everything, so it all tasted the same. My husband ordered the Delmonico steak. It had been frozen. He ordered it rare and it was dried out. No blood or juice ran from it. He couldn't eat it. The calimari he ordered was also frozen, tasteless. There was more garnish on the plate than calimari. The soup that came with it was a cup of chicken and rice. Old instant rice and broth like water. No flavor. The baked potatoes that came with our dinners were inedible. They had been wrapped in foil hours ago, baked, and then left on a steam table to keep warm. They were soaked in steam, tasted old, gummy and mushy. They were served in the foil, which was stuck to the potato. I received a tiny plastic cup of Cole slaw with my dinner. It was very watery. No flavor. My husband also ordered the combination spaghetti. The menu states it has peppers, pepperoni, sausage and meatballs. Instead of being cooked with the sauce, it is all thrown on top of a mountain of pasta with a little sauce. Imagine someone dumping a supreme pizza on top of your spaghetti. That's what it looks like. The sauce is just like Chef boyardee. Just like it. Orange in color with hamburger cooked in it. Greasy and tasteless. Very bland. Two huge meatballs. Also no seasoning tasted like an old lump of meat. Two little pieces of dried out sausage that tasted odd, like licorice. Perhaps anise seed in it. Almost like blood sausage with nothing but anise added. On a positive, their sweet tea was great. And they served us a pitcher. And fresh to go cups of it. But that was the only high note. What a let down. We really wanted to be return customers. I love old restaurants. But I'm sorry, this is not a repeat. We left with a $75 bill to pay. I felt ripped off. For $75 I could buy 4 days worth of Home Chef and feed the both of us fresh excellent meals. I don't understand how they justify their prices. And on a side note, my feet were sticking to the floor everywhere I walked in the ladies room. Really sticking. To what I don't know. I don't think I want to know. If it wasn't for the spectacular service we received from Candy, our waitress, I would be giving them 1 star. They need to get a chef who serves fresh food for what they charge. Can't believe a place that advertises spaghetti in their name doesn't even have marinara sauce. So I got the select scallops. There is nothing select about them. $17.95 for about 7 pitiful very small tasteless scallops. The baked potato was old and must've been sitting there all day long. It was terrible. And the only vinegar they had for your salad was white distilled vinegar. My boyfriend got the seafood platter and he said it was no better than something you might get at Shoney's. No ambience. My Dad and I stopped here because it was the only restaurant around and since it was a spaghetti and steak house I ordered spaghetti and he ordered steak. My spaghetti came with sausage that was pale and disgusting other than that my spaghetti was good. My Dad's steak was 50% fat it honestly didn't even resemble a steak from a steakhouse, maybe a Waffle House. It is family owned and the owner seems to take pride in his restaurant, but there is major room for improvement. Overall: 2.5 stars. We stopped at Nick's on the way back home from Yorktown beach--casual attire (clothing over bathing suit) was fine for this place. Our waitress was nice and the food, pretty average, tasted pretty good because we were hungry! We both shared an order of calamari (so so) and the seafood dinner which included popcorn shrimp, a crabcake and flounder. A salad, bread, coleslaw and hush puppies were included too. We both brought the fish home since we were stufffed. I would say the most off-putting thing about the restaurant is the carpeting. It needs replacing....badly....now. Very badly stained. The rest of the place was very clean looking. The menus, too, needed to be reprinted.
