Everything was delicious! So when you're coming up on the restaurant, it's easy to miss just because it's tucked in next to another building. It's a family operation so the owners also doubled as the cook and the serving staff. They were very friendly and we talked throughout lunch. Prices were VERY reasonable and the sushi was fresh. I particularly recommend the Jalapeño Bomb. I can't wait to come back and try other stuff on the menu, especially the bulgogi! Don't sleep on Sun's Cafe!

Favorite stop on the way to/from RIC. This place is amazing food n service. Really enjoy the fried pickles, sushi n dumplings. We tried several deep fried sushi, my first for deep fried. It was so tasty and nice portions. There is so many options, american comfort food, hibachi. Service is awesome!

Delicious and quality sushi! Love supporting small businesses with good food and friendly service. Hidden gem for sure, go check it out if you're in the Richmond, VA area!

Sun's Cafe has everything you need. You need breakfast? They have breakfast. A burger? Sure thing. Sushi? No problem. Liver and onions? Yup, got that too- but not until after 11. Located in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by rolling fields, ribbons of highways, and ever growing pockets of new housing, Sun's is at the crossroads of old and modern day America. A photo of the original building (still there, but now just a small section) hangs above the register. The owner told us that the photo was from the 30s, and I'm positive that this restaurant will stay exactly as it is until the family that runs it decides that they need a change. Because we are exactly the right group of people for such an eclectic menu, we ordered breakfast with a side of fried dumplings and sushi. We were going to order fried pork chops, but since it was before 11 our request was denied. There might have been some friendly attitude involved, and it might have made us decide to time our next visit for lunch or dinner. The fried dumplings and sushi were good. The dumplings were deep fried, but not overly greasy. The sushi and sashimi were not evenly cut, but were generous in portion and were fresh. The hamachi was served a bit colder than I'd have liked, but we were ordering it during breakfast hours, so I can't be upset. Breakfast was everything that makes me happy with a place like this. Light pancakes, crispy bacon, and creamy chipped beef. I'm positive that the chipped beef was not made in house, but it was served with just the right toast to sauce ratio. Our friend ordered the ribeye and was happy with his thinly sliced steak and eggs. Honestly, the only thing I wish Sun's had on the menu are a few hot Asian dishes, even if it was a rotation of daily specials. I'd love to be able to add an order of ramen or bulgogi to the diversity that already exists at my table.

    The jalapeño appetizer was awesome.

I like this place, its unassuming but don't let the appearance fool you. I've had the sushi as well as stuff off the regular menu, its all good.

New to the area and was in need of a new Sushi spot. Found this place on Yelp and heard great things, so I decided to give it a try. WOW! I am so glad I did. The food was excellent! Mission accomplished: I found my new sushi spot!!!

The sushi is great. Well made and very fresh. It's the best sushi place I've been to in va and will continue going here when I can. The staff is very friendly, and the lady that ownes the place always remembers me even after I'm not in the area to stop by for months. Highly recommend this place to anyone that enjoys sushi.

We got a tuna avocado roll, a salmon avocado roll, the Richmond roll, the dragon roll, and a sweet potato roll. These were huge portions. We still had some leftovers and we were three people. We enjoyed our rolls. My friend works nearby and was happy to learn about a new to her sushi spot from Yelp. Nothing was particularly good, just basic normal sushi you find anywhere else. And the lunch special that runs to 3 o'clock according to the sign posted, apparently ends at 2:30 when I arrived. We stuck to water, but they have cocktails of all calibers here. The temperature inside was chilly, and I wished I'd brought a sweater or jacket. I'm sure others feel differently, though, I'm not a fan of the cold. I ordered sushi, including the wonder woman, sweet potato, and spicy tuna. They were all tasty, though spicy tuna as always remains my favorite. My partner ordered the orange chicken because she doesn't care for sushi, but it was pretty fantastic as well. I tried a sample of the chicken and the salad, and both were excellent. Our server was kind and provided excellent service. She never lingered, and continued working diligently all evening. The experience overall was majorly positive, and I would recommend to any who are looking for a solid Asian-fusion spot. I'd give five stars if the sushi was better. I found it to be satisfactory but nothing special, unfortunately.

I loved the tapestries on the walls and the Happy birthday song they played for a customer. I was sure the food would be great! My first interaction was with the manager/hostess. We made a take-out order. She sat us at a table and my daughter, and I chose from a large variety of dishes. only one gentleman came to ask for our order but, when we said it was take-out, he abruptly left us. He later kept brushing me off when I wanted to ask a question. He was not outwardly or aggressively rude. Just very dismissive. In about a 25-30 wait, I got to see how the management treats their employees. A young girl, only 17 (I asked) had made a mistake ringing up an order. The patrons had paid less than their bill and the manager/hostess was yelling at her, right in front of all the patrons standing by the entrance along with me and my daughter. The young lady offered to pay for the mistake. She retreived what money she had but, the manager/hostess said it was not enough. The young girl said she didn't have the full amount. can she bring it back later? No, the manager wanted it right then. Never mind that the patrons paid for MOST of the meal. She was forcing this girl to pay the FULL amount of their order. Through all of this, the young girl kept her composure, never raising her voice or acting out or being disrespectful. I was very impressed with her, I'll call her "K". I instructed the manager to return the girls money, and I would pay for the mistake. A young girl, just beginning, and this is how she is treated. In front of other customers. In front of lots of staff. In front of everyone. I made sure her money was returned to her before leaving. Somehow, I felt she would not get her money back. It was clear the manager had no intention of giving it back to her...until she realized I wasn't leaving until she did. I will not be patronizing this restaurant a second time. then, to add insult to injury, my food, which cost over $40., was not good. My sushi was poorly made. My daughters poke bowl looked like a plate of vomit, and tasted like there was no seasoning in it, from what she was willing to eat. Highly disappointed in this place. I had such high hopes.

Before we moved to Williamsburg, we visited the area for vacations, and Thai Tara is alway the first place we go for dinner and the final meal before leaving. Whether you crave the freshest Sushi/Sashimi or you prefer authentic Thai street food, you will find it here. We have traveled to Bangkok many times, and from first hand experience can say without exaggerating that the Chicken Sate or Fresh Rolls are as authentic as you might find at the street markets in BKK. The Tom Kha and Tom Yum soups are a treat. The extensive selection of warm Thai dishes like Pad Thai and Penang Curry are outstanding. We often include a hand roll or a selection of Sashimi from the Sushi bar in our orders. Never has the sushi bar prepared anything less than perfect. And if you want a real treat, finish your meal with a Mango Sticky Rice. Although small in size, it's surely is a dessert of the gods. An extensive bar is also on hand at Thai Tara for your favorite hand mixed cocktail, umbrella drink or beer, including Thailand's own Singha, a refreshing lager. Plan to arrive early because this cozy (but not small) place gets very busy, especially on weekends. Parking can be tight. But even in the busiest evenings, service is always prompt, attentive, and with a Thai smile.
