Amazing place with delicious food and great service! The fried chicken and okra was amazing!!

Unfortunately to say that since the covid epidemic this restaurant has not regained its former caliber or prestige. Switching to a soul food menu has not set them apart from any of the other dining institutions. The ambience is lacking luster or even character. The food is a little more descriptive but falls short of glorified bar food. It is the only pub in the area, but unfortunately is exclusive as the cost is prohibitive. read more

Highly recommend. Martha's kitchen is possibly the cutest place in New Kent. Completely redone with beautiful decor, the tables are gorgeous! The food: Started off with the buffalo chicken dip that came with pita bread. Was very good, had a little kick to it but it is perfectly paired with the warm pita. The grilled lemon pepper chicken was very juicy. Paired it with the mashed potatoes (get them!!) The desserts were gone before I took a picture they We're that good! read more

Yummy comfort food and atmosphere at Martha's Kitchen in New Kent, VA. Our favorite is their cornmeal fried catfish! My husband also likes their meatloaf. I like their fried chicken & waffles. The deviled eggs appetizer is worth getting too. I think their seasonal cocktails are hit or miss, but good wine or beer options at a reasonable price. I'm gonna give fives stars because it is a Tuesday when I'm posting this and I ate at 2:00pm and I had great service and food. The Whiskey flight is definitely worth the price. I had shrimp and grits and it did not disappoint. I highly recommend this place not just for food but also if your a history buff. read more

Ok so we moved to Providence Forge in November and this is our first time trying this place. LAWD wish we had of tried it sooner. I was hesitant to get the fried chicken cause all the pictures are of the fried chicken but said might as well try it and BAM! It was delicious. The honey wasn't overwhelming for me just right and the collards and mac and cheese were excellent. Even the biscuit was good. Will definitely be trying out the rest of the menu soon. read more

great food! Was having roof work done and came across Martha's kitchen when looking for a patio to sit with our dog. great service and staff. My 3 yr old said the ranch dressing was the best she ever had (it was really good). I had the chicken Alfredo and it was really good. Can't wait to come back and try other items. read more

The inside is beautiful and there are so many things on the menu to choose from that are enticing. I went with the meatloaf, broccoli and garlic biscuit!!! PHENOMENAL!!! I would certainly leave a higher review than 5 stars. Thank you again amber! Not to mention but cleanliness is also what's important to me in restaurants along with the food of course but clean place, and the bathrooms are clean and smell great. We had seen a lot of Facebook adds for Martha's Kitchen and decided to give it try on Sunday morning for Breakfast. We made a table reservation on line and arrived at our requested time of 11:15 AM. After a small wait we were seated. We were presented with menus and a listing of Bourbon drinks we could order. It took some time for the waitress to arrive and she apologized advising that a large group had arrived right before us. We noticed that that there wasn't a lot of people there at the time. The breakfast menu was somewhat limited compared to what we had seen for most breakfast restaurants, but we were able to find some items to order. I requested a cup of coffee and my partner requested hot tea. They only have one type of tea, Lipton Black. At 11:55 the waitress came to our table and stated that she had forgotten to put our order in and was very sorry. She then advised that they were out of eggs and neither of our orders could be completed. I asked "how you could be out of eggs", to which she stated that it was now lunch time (12:00 pm) and that they usually run out of breakfast items this time of day. I reminded her that we arrived well in time to have breakfast, to which she said "I know, that's my fault, but I don't know what to do about it." She said we could get some breakfast items as long as it didn't involve eggs. I asked my partner if she wanted to leave, and she said let's just get some non-egg items. The food was very unimpressive. As we were leaving another waitress how we liked our Breakfast to which I advised we didn't, she asked why I and explained what had happened. She asked if the waitress comped the bill, to which I advised "no". She asked if I would like to speak with the manager to which I said "there's a manager here?" (My partner said "Let's just go") I declined and the waitress asked if I would let her have my phone number. I presented her with my business card and advised her I would love to get a phone call from the manger. No phone call ever came! The restaurant has a great potential due to the New Kent area being limited in dining except for fast food. Martha's Kitchen seems to be marketing heavily on Social Media, but they are failing in suppling what they marketing. Maybe they should market as "BYOE"; Bring Your Own Eggs! read more

So this was my second time with Martha's Kitchen. The first time was several months ago, when my wife and I ordered take out. We got several dishes to sample and were hoping for the best. Sadly, the food was all bland. The catfish was unseasoned... the greens were terrible... etc... etc. I went to work and asked if anyone had ever eaten there, and a woman told me she had, and that the food was fantastic! She urged me to give them another try. Fast forward to last Thursday, my in-laws came to visit and we decided to take them to Martha's to given them a taste of New Kent. While the service was excellent, the food was once again, sub par. The catfish was again unseasoned... the devil eggs tasted like they had been soaked in vinegar... the shrimp and grits looked like the grits had come from an instant packet and the chef used nothing but water to cook them. My family spent most of the time trying to doctor up the food at the table! You could tell that the cook, whoever they are, does not want to be a cook. Such a shame, as the restaurant has everything else you'd like in a local haunt. The ambiance was great. The staff were very welcoming. If they just had a decent cook, we'd go back in a heartbeat. read more

Went there for a family members birthday dinner. We had a party of 12, so I knew coming in it that food would possibly take a while, but not 1.5hours . I ordered catfish and man it had ZERO flavor. Returned it and she brought me meatloaf which was actually pretty good. Other members of the party that had anything fried stated it had no seasoning on the food as well. Oh my goodness!! I had the pleasure of dining here last night ( Sunday 10/29/23) for a family birthday dinner. We were seated promptly with a party of 9. Our server was Lisa. High chairs are all broken, none of them have buckles. Food lacked flavor both in spices and cooking methodologies. Portions were small. We left hungry and ate a second dinner when we got home. It was also very loud with very few people there. They should do some sound dampening. Service was good and earned a good tip. But based on the food i would not return. For some specifics. Catfish bites completely lacked seasonings. Shrimp po boy shrimp were two to three times the size of what should be in it (this is not good for a po boy). Shrimp had no cajun flavoring in the breading. Missing the sliced pickles that go on a po boy, sauce was decent but there was way too little of it. Bread was too small i had to remove the tomato to eat it which takes a lot away from the sandwich. Bread was also not the right type of bread, it was more like a sub roll than french bread. It was toasted as well so you lose the softness of the bread that should pair with the crisp outside. Fried okra was under cooked, under breaded and under seasoned except salt there was a bit too much salt on them. The portion was incredibly small as well I literally had 8 okra slices for a 3 dollar side. Salmon looked ok, wife said it was ok. Mashed potatoes carrots and second okra side were all very small as well. Carrots were slightly over cooked and again, bland I didnt try the potatoes but i would guess they were lackluster as well. Kinda bummed about the experience. New kent need some good restaurant diversity and this place is just not an option. read more

Martha's Kitchen was such a treat! We brought our group of 18 in right at opening on a Saturday, were seated right away and our waitress delivered graceful service! Our food was all correct, hot, and delicious! We loved being able to have a private room to our party and you never would have known we only had one waitress and cook for our large party because our drinks were always full and she was very attentive. I'd recommend Martha's to anyone in the area for the at-home feel with their food selections along with extremely fair pricing! read more

Service was great and the setting is very cute and cozy. My wife ordered the chicken salad sandwich which according to the menu has pecans, grapes, and red onion. There were none. A few cranberries. Bland is a kind description. Also, very small amount of the salad on the sandwich -it was almost all bread. I ordered the MacDoogle. This was our first visit. The Restaurant is situated in Historic New Kent the once home of Americas First Lady Martha Washington. The restaurant itself has a quaint historic feel of its own. The staff is friendly and the menu is diverse and fairly priced. The food was very good. The blend of staff, physical surroundings of the restaurant and the menu give this restaurant a special and unique feel that will want you to come back. The experience was very relaxing and pleasant. I would highly recommend it. It's one of those places when traveling and you stumble upon it you would say it's a Diamond in the Rough. Thank you to the management and staff for a special time. Eaten here twice this week, once for dinner and once for lunch and impressed with both times. The fried chicken is excellent being hot, crispy and flavorful. The collards are simply wonderful with a ham flavor with a touch of vinegar and almost a hint of sweet to bring out the collard taste. The succotash was again cooked to just the right tenderness and flavorful. The meat loaf with a tomato jam is some of the best we have had and the rolls and biscuits also hot and fresh tasting. It is interesting that an entree comes with 3 sides of which the choices include the bread selection for those that don't want bread with their meal. The ice tea is sweetened to my taste and served over ice in full strength so as not to dilute the taste. Came back for lunch today and had a shrimp po boy which was comparable to the ones I've had in Biloxi or Gulfport. The shrimp were lightly breaded, ho, fresh tasting with an excellent comeback sauce! The homemade chips are thick and crunchy. The chicken salad is first class with the addition of nuts and cranberries and the blt was good bacon on fresh bread. The only drawback is they like so many places are short on servers so don't be in a hurry but the food did come out of the kitchen in a reasonable time! read more

We've been to Martha's Kitchen a couple of times. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is informal and welcoming. Most of the time, the food is on par with Golden Corral. It's basically cafeteria food. Dinner last night plumbed the lows of what passes for cafeteria food. My wife had the catfish which was unseasoned and dry. I had the pork ribeye which was good, but our sides weren't: The green beans tasted like they were out of a can. The sauteed baby carrots were so overdone they appeared an unappetizing brown color. My wife loves collard greens, but the ones she was served might have been prepared last week. The mashed potatoes were glue-like. The worst part of the evening was my second martini (apparently produced by the waitress who didn't know how to make one.) It was presented with a single olive in the bottom of the glass (no toothpick) and the gin never saw any ice or the inside of a shaker. And they charged me $19 for it. We won't be back. read more

We were traveling north from outer banks vacation and needed a nice early dinner stop. Read about Martha's Kitchen and was on our way so we stopped. We immediately loved the quaint, sunny, atmosphere and the menu was great comfort food. The bread basket was to die for. My three teenagers devoured the biscuits and cornbread in less than a minute and were begging for more! My husband ordered a delicious catfish with three good southern sides. Kids loved their food as well and I really enjoyed the bourbon cocktails. Friendly service and a lovely culinary break from fast food on 95. We will stop here anytime we travel south! read more
