Everyone was super cool. It really felt like they were a group of good happy people. Arthur did a great job with my wife, I was gonna get one too but I forgot my wallet at home. I definitely want to go back tho, next time I am in town I will have to stop and see him.

Today Jerry Martian did a tattoo on my forearm and it turned out so beautiful!! Jerry was not only very friendly, accommodating, personable and professional, but he is also very talented and got my design done the way that I wanted, down to the details!! He's very gentle and it didn't hurt the way some of my other tattoos elsewhere have. Also, it was so reasonably priced!! I'm super happy and I highly recommend Martian Arts Tattoos and Jerry Martian for your next tattoo! I know I'm already planning my next one.

I just had an arm tattoo added by Joanne and I couldn't be happier. I gave Joanne the frog and toad characters exact pose, but asked for her advice on the rest of image. She didn't disappoint. Her final design was amazing and the session was laid back.

Joanne is such a talented artist!! I felt super comfortable my entire appointment. All of the staff were very welcoming, such a great environment.

My gf and I chose Martian for our first tattoos - the tattoo parlor is super clean and welcoming, and all the artists are incredibly friendly. Jerry was our tattoo artist and he could not have been nicer. The tattoos turned out great as well. Very thankful to him for making our first tattoos such a good experience.

I have been getting tattooed at Martian Arts for several years and just today realized I should leave them a review. I mostly get work done by Joanne because, quite frankly, she is the best tattooist in town. Her touch is so soft and delicate. She is very meticulous, does amazing linework, and she isn't afraid to use bright vibrant colors. When people see my tattoos, they quite often comment that they didn't realize tattoos could be so colorful! We are currently in the middle of tattooing my knees. I'm finding this area particularly uncomfortable. With another artist, I'm not sure I could sit through it, but because Joanne is so delicate and kind (and quick!), we are getting there. My last two sessions at the shop were after the pandemic hit. They have done great work sectioning off the different tattoo areas and the place is pretty much spotless. Honestly, I was a little leery getting tattooed in the middle of a pandemic, but after seeing how clean the shop is (and seeing other artists cleaning and disinfecting their areas after a client leaves), I am totally comfortable. Everyone is completely professional, wears masks and keeps good social distance. If you are looking for some cool tattoos, I would highly recommend Martian Arts.

This shop is everything I've always wanted to experience when getting a tattoo. First of all, they are friendly, welcoming and happy to see folks coming in. So many times I've been to shops who borderline ignore me or give the impression that the tattoo I want is "below" their standards or a waste of their time. Amanda was my artist and she did an amazing job in translating my love of Portland into a beautiful rose tattoo. She was super chill, and made sure I was comfortable. I'll be back in Portland to get ink from this shop again.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this studio! First time going here and I'm hooked. Recently moved here and was trying to find a new place. Went around to a few different studios who were not welcoming or just plain rude. I called this place and not sure who answered the phone but they were really nice! The vibes were awesome. My artist was Amelia and I highly recommend her. She listens to what you want and was very personable. Can't wait to go back and get more!

Came here for my first tattoo after looking at a few other places and seeing the portfolios of the artists here. i absolutely love how it came out thank you John Lyon for a great job and for transferring the inspiration picture into something unique. the atmosphere was super cool inside as well love all the framed pictures and knickknacks around the shop and cool music to try to relax too while you get poked with a tattoo gun . will be the place i recommend to anyone i know

MARTIANS - Many hours and lots of $$ spent at Martians... TOTALLY WORTH IT!!! Thor does incredible work. He's a super RAD Human on top of being wicked talanted!! Black n Grey/ Realism is his specialty although he can rock any style! The owners Jerry and Joanne are super cool and totally rock their own styles of tattooing. We look foward to going in every time! Always fun and ALWAYS thrilled with the work that's been done. If you want to go to a super hip feel good Tattoo Shop that is professional AND fun then go to Martians. Everyone that works there is awesome!!! promise you won't be disappointed!!!! No... I did not get paid for this review OR get a discount!!! Hahahahahaha.....

    K-9 of Doctor Who

I am new to the Portland area, and have been on a search for my new artist. I wanted to get started on my Doctor Who tribute, and was immediately drawn to Martian Arts, due to them having a "tarids" for their front door. I reached out with my idea and the owner jerry responded, excited due to be a Doctor Who fan since the 70's! During the appointment, couldn't help but notice how closely they follow COVID-19 restrictions (I am grateful they are requiring to be masked at all times), and the overall cleanliness of the shop. It was a pleasure being tattooed by Jerry, and I have more plans for my "nerd sleeve" and look forward to working with him again in the future. Thank you!!

Such wonderful customer service in this shop. Greeted immediately and had such lovely conversations with the staff here. Arthur did my tattoo and was great, moved the placement until I was happy and gave great advice. Will be back 100% for another tattoo.

My friend and I were wanting matching plastic vampire teeth tattoos since it'd be Halloween weekend and he was so kind when I told him what we wanted and mentioned he hadn't finished his flash sheet so he'd add in the teeth, (spoiler, they were PERFECT). The day we were planning on coming in was their planned flash day so we knew we had to anticipate a potential wait. The rainy Portland weather was in our favor because, even though we were unable to make our way in at 10:30AM as he recommended, we ventured in at 3PM and still got a spot in line. Jared was great, adding the text I wanted to my flash, and even touching up a small hand/wrist tattoo that was poorly done by someone else in a different state prior. Truly, so thankful he answered the phone that day bc I got a great vibe from him. He was also able to successfully turn my "splotch" knuckle tattoo (my loving nickname for it) to a beautiful black skull that ACTUALLY STAYED PUT (it was the 4th attempt over an old scar I had and he was the only one to successfully have a tattoo stick on it without it looking weird once healed). Since Jared was short on time before an appt, Ali did my friends matching fangs and they both turned out amazingly. Overall, I now fully intend to make the journey from Sacramento to Portland anytime I want something done so I can specifically have him do it or his shop-mate that does phenomenal portrait style flash/tattoos (she was diagonal from us when we were there - blonde long hair and beanie). The shop was super clean, artists were all super friendly, front desk apprentice was easy on the eyes, what's not love? 100/10 could not recommend this place enough!

Sarah listens closely to what you want and then finds a cute, stylish way to make it work. I made the terrible decision to be tattooed by Toby. I went in to start on a full sleeve, although it wasn't technically a full sleeve but a 3/4 sleeve. I have a tattoo on my upper arm that takes up half of my upper arm. During my 1st appointment we discussed that we are going to keep and incorporate that one. At my 1st appointment Toby told me that it would take 3 sessions since it wouldn't be an actual full sleeve. I paid for a full day session. He told me at my 1st appt that the stop time will be once I tap out. Our first session he ended early and said that his kids were sick. He specifically told me that our next session won't be the same. He also said our next session wouldn't take as long to get started. I went back in for my 2nd session yesterday at 10am. He showed up late like he did for our 1st appt. It wasn't until about 11am that he started drawing on me. It took him about 4 hours to draw on me. Keep in mind we haven't even started on my upper arm. He was drawing on my lower arm. Finally by 3pm we get started tattooing. The table wasn't working properly so he had to reset up a new one. Then some random person walks in looking for a tattoo. He stopped tattooing me to go chat with the person. Then throughout my entire session he purposely inflicts maximum pain. He seems to think that I don't have any large or decent pieces. I have my entire back done. I also have portraits and pieces on my legs. I have good quality work in those areas. I only mentioned to him that I wanted my back covered up, but because I don't like it anymore and don't have those beliefs anymore. It's not due to the quality. The tattoos that he was starting to cover on my arm are much older tattoos that I got when I was younger. Based off of that I suppose he thinks I don't know any better. My ex is also a tattoo artist so I understand needle groupings, heavy hands vs light hands, dry wipe vs wet wipe etc. Throughout my entire session he never finished a single area. He jumps from area to area throughout the entire process. He would randomly jump from my wrist, elbow, side of arm, just all over the place. He opens up the area and works on it for a while, then moves to another area for like 20min or so, then moves back to the area he opened up. He inflicts serious pain. I hinted to him several times that each time you do that it hurts much worse. He never listened and continued to do it. I told him from the start that I wanted to work in a particular area first. He didn't listen. He is super heavy handed intentionally. He dry wipes with a paper towel the whole time. He inflicts maximum pain to attempt to get you to tap early. At the very start of our 2nd session after the marker was drawn on, I flat out asked him will you be able to finish this today to which he yes. By about 10pm he said we should call it a night. I literally only had maybe 1/2 of a half sleeve. There was so much work to complete still. I told him no I want to keep going. He didn't want to but I was persistent. So we get back to tattooing. I asked him flat out why did you tell me that we would have this finished today if that isn't the case. He said well there are a lot of factors like the way a client takes pain. I told him he put me in a ton of pain but I never once stopped him so what do you mean. I told him I feel lied to, taken advantage of, and just how unhappy I was by this and that I won't be continuing with him. I was planning on getting 2 full sleeves, full chest piece, and a cover up on my entire back. I told him you literally told me that for a full day session that it means we stop once I tap out. He got extremely combative. He said that in the fine print says he only tattoos 7 hrs max. I said why did you lie to me then? He ended up calling me an asshole and threatened to stop my work mid session to leave it. He said it's his right to do so. I said that I'd leave a review about this and he said that's "thats fine, I don't give a f". I'm not sure if he ended up texting his family or people or what. But suddenly around midnight all his people showed up at the tattoo studio I guess to try to intimidate me. I paid $ 3,225 in total and I don't have a completed half sleeve. I don't even have a single section of my arm that is complete due to him jumping around constantly. Literally not even one single area of this "half sleeve" is completed. During our argument he scoffed at me and was the mentality of how dare you .. but he admitted flat out a full sleeve is 5 grand. I said okay and I've paid over 3 grand now and I don't even have a completed half sleeve. He refuses to take accountability. He is a very selfish mentality, a liar, and he will gaslight you the entire time. He pretends to be a nice person but he is absolutely not. He takes advantage of people and rips them off.
