    Tamago Ramen
    Nami N.

I've visited Maruhachi Ramen several times for dinner. This time, I noticed they had a new miso ramen on the menu, but I went with the egg ramen instead. I usually find ramen soups at many places too salty, so I asked for a less salty version. Unfortunately, it turned out quite bland and lacked flavor--it just wasn't a satisfying bowl of ramen this time. That said, the staff were kind and attentive, which I really appreciated.

Doing a quick review because I was only here for 30min for a weekday lunch. Ordered their Juemon's Jiro-style Ramen priced at $18, and it did not disappoint!! The brothy delicious fat-flavoured umami soup was SO GOOD!! The overall bowl wasn't bad but I wished it wasn't filled with so much bean sprouts and instead had a different veggies component, but otherwise no complaints about the food. At $18 -whether this item will stay for long or for only seasonal- is not worth its price point. Ramen should be cheap, fast, and delicious. Trying to keep up with inflation by pricing it more is not a smart decision, and makes this special Ramen order less likely to be considered by your customers. Overall, I enjoyed my Ramen and the venue was great. Will come back here for a cheaper Ramen for lunch next time.

Your typical ramen joint. Very central location near the public library. Service was attentive but not intrusive as most ramen joints are. A fair amount of tables are filled with solo people and small groups alike. I ordered a large Tamago Ramen and it was just slightly too much for me as I usually get a small. Soup is flavorful and creamy, not overly salty. Pork pieces were large. Personally not a fan of the presentation as I don't like my proteins draped over the sides of bowls. Noodles are also on the thinner side if you care about how your noodles are. Not my favorite bowl of noodles but definitely decent. I do find ramen prices getting quite steep though.

After a long drive from Seattle, we needed something quick, warm, and on the lighter side. We decided to seek out ramen and did not realize we had a lot of spots to choose from but all were scattered across town. Maruhachi is a 10 minute walk from our hotel (Sheraton Wall Centre) and although exhausted we made the trek. The interior is nothing to look at, but the ramen was great. Service was disorganized but quick. The gyoza needs work, but our ramen and curry hit the spot. The pile of veg in our ramen was much needed for me. Prices were quite affordable compared to Seattle, making it difficult for me to come home and eat ramen in CapHill lol

Typical ramen joint with typical ramen menu items. Nice variety of ramen for those who are rather picky with their ramen choices. They do specialize/offer a chicken broth which is not normally offered in other ramen joints. Chicken broth had a light chicken flavor, noodles were plentiful and firm. Good ratio/variety of vegs to ramen. Curry ramen was good. Curry was light and didn't overpower the soup base and noodles. Char siu given would have been nicer if grilled. Overall a nice ramen outing, besides the special chicken broth nothing really outstanding

We visited this restaurant right as it opened. We were seated quickly and given water instantly. I ordered the SHOYU RAMEN, side of fried garlic and we ordered the GYOZA to share. The ramen was very good, added the fried garlic to the bowl and it added such a nice additional flavor. Gyoza came slightly after the bowl of ramen and they were hot and good. The restaurant is small and you will likely be near additional guests but the ambiance was nice and somewhat quiet. We visited while it was raining and this was the perfect meal to have while it was cold outside. If you are in the downtown Vancouver area I would recommend trying this place for a solid good bowl of ramen.

I heard this place was most famous for their chicken broth Ramen, and it was not disappointing at all!! If you are in Vancouver, you have to come in try this because places typically have very heavy broths and I feel like falling asleep however, this is the first time we are, Ramen has not made me fall asleep, and still stay flavorful! The service was very attentive. We called them over a lot for water and they helped with our questions on the menu. The store itself is pretty small so go early. It was pretty hard to find because the door was small and cannot see the sign anywhere, but it is on the main street Highly recommend !

A little hard to find this place without an obvious sign but we found it nonetheless. It wasn't too busy when we got here around 5 on a weekday but the business definitely picked up later in the evening. The staff was attentive without being aggressive and service was quick without pushing you out the door. Great for meeting up with friends as it wasn't too loud/ quiet in here and they also have booth seats for those who are flying solo and just want some hot noodle soup on a cold evening. We both got the winter special, one with the extra chasiu. Their ramen may have been the best I've had in town, the broth was rich and creamy, the meat melts right in your mouth with just the right amount of fat and the noodle is thin and chewy!! 10/10 would come back again for the noodle, ambience and service.

    Seaweed ramen, really good!
    Joyce T.

I enjoyed this more smaller size of a ramen restaurant. There is a smaller middle island of table for single diners with surrounding standard tables. No outdoor seating. The chashu is usually an after thought, but here it was so flavorful and almost melt in your mouth. I quickly grabbed the 2nd piece to continue this enjoyment! The broth is rich and cloudy, not oily or salty. I also liked that you could order mild or hot, and you know what I ordered! Friendly workers. Look around for surrounding menu item specials posted around the tables and the cashier. Beer on tap really went well with their ramen here!

But the garlic chips are so good!!!!

Oh Marutama Ra-men, how I wish you were in Seattle!!! This is place is ALWAYS a stop for us when in Vancity! We've been to the one on the West End, but this was a much closer walk from our hotel! Full discosure, my hubby wanted to come by again on our way out. Lol! As much as I would like to explore their menu, we always order the Tamago Ramen, with added garlic chips and pepper. My go-to!!! It is consistent and sugoi! We also noticed that they now have some local draught beer (a collab with Parkside Brewery)! I had the lager, which was light and refreshing and goes great with the ramen! So as far as the condiments go, they have the shichimi (pepper), sesame seeds, and the garlic chips. BUT starting June 1, 2022 they will start charging $0.90 CAD for a small plate of garlic chips. Don't hesitate to pay the price, it is 100% worth it to add garlic chips!

Till this day I'm still craving their chicken ramen!!! It's incredible and the best chicken based ramen I've ever! Tried to go back multiple times on my trip to Vancouver. As well as when I went to Vancouver again the following year. It's that good people! Line up to get inside because it's pretty popular but it's a small shop. It's good for small groups. A lot of individual diners come here. They have condiments at every table which is unusual to see in Toronto. So I really enjoyed their fried garlic topping! (Note I went in October 2021 - I'm on the website now and it says starting June 1st, 2022, there will be a $0.90 charge for a single portion of fried garlic 7-8g - WELP, it was great when it lasted!) Broth is rich and creamy but not too heavy. It's perfect for a cold day to warm you up! Would 100% recommend

    Veggie curry ramen
    Jade F.

Food was just okay. I didn't personally like it and wouldn't go back. I got the veggie curry ramen and was unable to get the egg because they cook it in pork fat. No big deal, but definitely a huge disappointment. The broth itself was just okay. I normally would finish the broth with the noodles, but I was only able to finish the noodles here. The best part about it here is the unlimited sesame seeds you can add to the ramen (to add and amp up the flavor) and the tofu skin. The tofu skin was a game changer and made the ramen taste better.

    Cha shu tomago
    Jiaqi Z.

In Toronto, I had some good ramen, a friend recommended me to try this since I'm in Vancouver。 the broth was very good, same with the tomago. However, the noodles was dry thin and didn't soak up much of the flavour, I would still personally prefer houkaido. Service was excellent

Your preference will depend upon subtleties about noodle thickness and texture and broth flavors, but there is always, always a line in front of Ramen Danbo. A lot of it is probably due to hype or fame, but I have to admit that I think it does edge out the others in several ways. I think the noodles themself are more flavorful and more delicate. And I have to say the pork was extremely tender and flavorful. The egg was perfectly prepared, and the broth was perfectly seasoned to my desired spiciness level. They also do a great job searing their gyozas. Because of its overwhelming popularity, they have perfected the ordering process so that you can fill out a form while you're in line, which greatly reduces your wait time. It's easy to get in and out of here in 30 min, and I'm sure that is their goal. As a result, the dining experience might not exactly be relaxing, but if your focus is on the best quality bowl of noodles that you can get, I think it is worth the wait.

I had the goma vegetarian and my brother the tonkatsu. We both had thicker noodles. However, one could not tell. The vegetarian was loaded with sesame seeds. Now i love those seeds but it was way too much for my liking. Too much seeds to chew on. They also do not put any vegetables on like Hawaii does. Everything is ala carte and that adds up. I simply chose the ramen version without all the add ons. The broth was yummy but again with the loaded seeds, it made it challenging to just drink the soup. I will say, Hawaii has by far better ramen, but this place was ok too. Pricey for for what you get though.

Paid parking was not too hard to find on the Main Street but during busy dining hours it might be difficult. We got seated right away at the bar since there were no tables open and the service was quick. Traditional Japanese style ambiance and even the bathroom had rounded Japanese bowl sink. As someone who doesn't have chicken broth (paitan style) ramen, I was really looking forward to the original ramen I ordered but I was a bit disappointed in the flavor profile of the dish. The ramen had both chasu and seaweed paired with thin round noodles. The broth was creamy and had a hint of chicken flavor but even adding several rounds of their soy sauce/salt seasoning they have on the side to adjust your broth to your liking-- I found that the richness of the soup was not what I had expected from the reviews that I read prior to coming here. Overall, a bit disappointed in the flavoring of the broth but maybe we came on an off day. I would be willing to give it a shot again in the future if I had ramen cravings and given that it was very affordable ($11-15 per bowl with tip), but I would probably opt to try another place first.

Review #3 for 2026 I…read morereally wanted to like this place. I watched many videos and read reviews before coming here, but it just did not hit the spot. After a cold day of exploring Stanley Park, we felt that ramen would really hit the spot, so we went here not wanting to deal with a wait at Danbo with a hungry and tired toddler. There was NO wait when we arrived here and we were seated immediately... which for a place that was really hyped up, should had made us think twice. There was only 1 other party at the restaurant. Now, the workers were super nice and the food came out quickly and we did eat everything because we were starving. We all ordered the cha-shu tamago ramen, 2 of us got spicy and 2 of us non-spicy. It came with extra chashu and the soft boiled egg for about $20 Canadian. The bowl was a good size and there was a promo for free extra noodles while we were there. Everyone except me in our group took advantage of it because I was too full from my bowl. Now, the broth here is different from other places because it is chicken based and not pork based. Everything I had seen about this place promised the broth is every bit just as good as the pork bone broth... however, the broth we received looked flavorful, but was bland. It was completely bland. There was no richness to it, not even a hint. I don't know, coming from southern California, the flavor just was not there period. We did all eat our food because we were starving, but it for sure did not hit the spot at all. Maybe we got an off day? Otherwise our broth had literally zero flavor to it. We all wished we had tried the other ramen place instead right after trying our ramen. Would I come back? I will have to say definitely no. We do not live in Vancouver and I do not want to waste any meals on a place that did not taste good the first time we went.

The gyoza, which we ordered on the recommendation of our waiter when we told them we were looking for a vegetarian appetizer, were made with soy-based imitation meat that had a very meaty texture - simple but very tasty. The rice bowl also had the soy meat, but seasoned differently, with a more intense flavour, along with atsuage tofu and various vegetables. It was delicious and also seemed healthy. We liked the aburi cheesecake, but it was more lemony than we expected.
