The prawn was huge and so flavourful, and the cheese pull in the tonkatsu was phenomenal. 9/10. * Spicy tan tan ramen ($19.99) - the noodles were chewy and the soup base had a slight kick to it! I really enjoyed the broth as it was very flavourful. 7.5/10. * Garlic grilled shrimp ($19) - this paired so well with the rice and other dishes we had. The prawns were huge and not to mention the super flavourful and rich in garlic. It was a bit salty but despite it I loved how rich in flavour it was. 8/10. * Japanese curry Hamburg set ($24) - the curry was flavourful and paired well with the hamburger patty. Three things bothered me before I left: 1. In an empty restaurant I wasn't allowed to sit where I wanted. 2. No wifi for guests. Only staff. 3. Out of dinner special ay 3:30 pm. Decent ramen spot but pricier than expected for the area. I came on a Monday evening for dinner around 7 and surprisingly the restaurant was mostly full. Ordering was super easy; I went with their tonkotsu ramen, called the Kokuton ramen here, for $18.80 which includes an egg. The ramen came out not too long after. The tonkotsu broth was good and had a little bit of a smoky flavor. The ramen noodles were very thin, which isn't my preference, but I still enjoyed them. The ramen came with two large thick slices of chashu and various other toppings such as bamboo and kikurage which were all good. The egg was honestly the most disappointing part, as it was just soft boiled and not runny inside. I inhaled my ramen as I was starving and also ordered a panna cotta ($6) to go. They have a couple flavors, and I went with the milk tea panna cotta with berry sauce. It was SO good, especially the sauce made from fresh strawberries. MENUS SHOULD BE CRISP SIMPLY TO READ AND LIKE 6 OPTIONS MAX. This menu had so many pages and nothing made sense. The only thing we understood was the alcoholic drinks menu.... Which is sad. When this is a RAMEN place. Server was just not doing a very good job. Attitude when we asked for modifications where we sat. I have a shoulder injury and my friend has back pain. Would it kill you to let us have a double small table for 4. When the bar and the island table had plenty of space for customers? Forcing us to sit at one small table for two with both of us sitting on the bench side crammed. And what's with the menu and then never coming back. And not even tap water? Japanese people normally are soooo polite and all about customer service.... certainly didn't feel welcomed, valued, respected We actually left. The chicken karaage were ordered with the tartar mayo sauce and although the sauce was delicious, I found the chicken a little bit too salty. The pieces were quite large but the price was also higher so it was understandable. The takoyaki was awesome with a huge plump piece of octopus in each piece, very crispy fried and with the mental mayo, it provided a different flavour that was fishy but in the best way. Like many other reviews, we often drive right past this shop because 1) parking is a definite issue, and 2) the name is often confused with the other well known mazesoba shop. This time we found time to finally visit and try and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food here. The room is rather warm with wood tones and a large communal table in the middle and surrounding booths. The ramen menu is quite varied with many options: pork based, chicken based, pork/chicken base, and vegetarian soups. Yes, there is even a mazesoba option. Together with the drinks, appetizer and dessert options, it is a rather complete menu. On our visit, we opted for the TanTan mazesoba and the Shio Tonkotsu Ramen w. egg combo'd with their house special panna cotta and chicken karaage. The tantan hit all the right spice notes and the noodles were chewy and mixing the soft boiled egg made the dish unctuous and quite delectable. The Shio ramen was very complete, served with the necessary toppings. The soup broth was rich and full of flavour. In our opinion, the right amount of salt. The chashu was thick sliced and very tender with melting fat which was very complimentary. On our visit, the egg was slightly overcooked, but remained custardy, which was fine for us. The karaage could have been more crispy, but the flavour of the chicken was spot on. The surprise was the panna cotta - perfectly set and we were glad we chose the brown sugar flavour as it offered the perfect sweetness to complete the meal. We were definitely surprised by the quality of the food here and the room filled up consistently during our stay. The staff were accommodating and helpful. They also offer frozen versions of their ramen to take home. Next time you pass by Kokoro, try and find a parking spot and drop in. read more

After driving by this restaurant for a long time. I finally convinced my family to try it out with me. When we got there I was quite shocked by the prices of the ramen, and the fact that we had to pay extra for eggs! Don't they usually come with the ramen? I ended up ordering Akamaru Spicy Ramen because I just love spicy food. The spice level was on point, it was definitely spicy, and I loved it. However the noodles were only okay. It was just missing something. And there were not a lot of toppings in the noodles, which made me a little upset as I expected a bit more for the price. I've tried it once, and once is enough. My friend suggested we check out this place, thinking that it was Kokoro Tokyo Mazesoba. To his disappointment, this was not the same place at all, but he was a good sport and we still ate here. One of more memorable aspects of this place was the poor service. We had to ask for water and tea, and even then it took a very long time. It was also hard to flag a server down to take our order, a long time to get our food, and a long time to get our bill. It was also peculiar that the staff used many, many paper towels to clean up a water spill on the floors instead of using a mop. Now onto the food. I got the Kokuton ramen - pork broth, black garlic oil, bamboo shoots, chashu, and bacon bits. This was not a satisfying bowl of ramen. The soup base was too salty, the egg was overcooked, and the chashu was large portion but wasn't grilled enough. I ordered extra noodles and the staff completely forgot and I had to follow up to get them. Overall, I don't think I'll be visiting again. I sure hope that they spend some money on a mop and figure out their staffing so that guests don't have to wait so long for food and service. read more

Having discovered that they cater to vegans, with 3 vegan ramens available, we decided to try it out for lunch. I ordered the vegetarian miso ramen and my wife got the spicy veggie tantan ramen. The miso ramen broth had a nice mushroom depth, leaning on the sweeter side, which is a bit unusual for ramen. Lots of different vegetables, including broccoli, tofu, cherry tomato, carrots, asparagus, bamboo shoots, kikurage, and bean sprouts -- very ample portion. Not the most complex flavours, but very nicely done. 3.5/5 The spicy tantan broth was very rich and quite spicy (if you're sensitive spiciness, this might be too much for you), which I really appreciated. This one came with bok choy, cabbage, and minced soy meat that really rounded things off nicely. Great depth of flavours, with everything balanced nicely. This was excellent. 4/5 All the vegan ramens come with a solid portion of kale noodles, which are decent. Acceptably priced at $14-14.50 for the vegan ramens. Friendly service. From the outside, the restaurant looks quite large. From the inside, it's still a good size however the seating is a bit awkward. The restaurant is on the corner of 41st & Victoria Drive. Inside the room is an odd triangle shape. There is a large table/island in the middle of the dining area, I am assuming it's designed to suit the shape of the room. If you're seated here and dining with friends, it makes it difficult to talk to the friend at the other end, and if you're the one sitting by the door, you'll get hit by a draft each time the door opens. The food itself was okay. It's more expensive than other Ramen noodle places, however not worth the price. The portions are quite small for what you get and in comparison to other noodle places. It won't make the ramen taste too heavy. auricula-judae's flavor profile is blend but not in this case. It is perfect match for a heavy soup base. Crunchy and absolutely perfect. Bamboo shoot was flavorful. It absorbed all the rich flavor of the soup. Soft boil egg 6/5- THIS PLACE NAILED IT! Soup base 3.5/5 - a bit salty I would say a pinch or two less salt would be perfect. Or order extra noodle and blend out the soup. What a shame if the soup wasn't that salty it would made my top to go ramen place. Definitely deserves a 4 star. It was quite expensive for a ramen but the taste of the ramen was extensively splendid. They also got to go frozen ramen that you can just order and deliver and heat it up at home that you can just eat at home easily. Definitely check this ramen if you are in town. Our Groupon was about to expire so we came here. This time, I ordered the chicken paitan as I have already tried the other flavors. Sis got the akamaru which is the spicy one. It had 4 chillis but you can request to make it mild or medium if you are unsure if you can take the heat. After awhile, 45 minutes to be exact, our orders still haven't arrived so I thought I'd check with the server. Turned out that our order didn't go through. The supervisor came to apologize. He prioritized our order and even offered to give us desserts on the house. The ramen arrived in a few minutes. Love that this time, the broth was really hot. Last couple of times I came here it wasn't hot enough. The chicken paitan had a smooth, creamy, unami broth and I love it. The noodles were firm and cooked perfectly. The fried lotus root was a very nice touch (wish there was more) and the menmas or bamboo shoots were very flavorful. I liked that there was a lot of green onions on this. Egg was cooked perfectly as usual. The only complaint that I have was the chicken chashu. It was tender but way too salty. Good thing the broth and the noodles helped taper off the saltiness of the chashu. So I have tried all 3 ramens and I would say that the kokuton (#1) is probably my favorite. There was some misunderstanding with our dessert. When another server came to take our dessert order, she said that we can only choose one ice cream, which isn't what the supervisor told us. Glad the supervisor came by again to check on us. He clarified that we can have the matcha creme brulee and so we got that as well as the Panna Cotta with brown sugar. I love brown sugar and this one had depth. It was rich and caramely and so perfect with the Panna Cotta. The matcha creme brulee was the star of the meal. The hardened caramelized sugar was very good and it made a nice contrast when eaten with the matcha custard. The custard had the right amount of matcha flavor and the mint tied it all together. I had to refrain myself from eating the entire thing as I was sharing it with sis. Although small in serving, I would say this is definitely worth the $5. These are really good desserts. Overall, a successful meal despite the rough start. Maybe other servers could be more attentive but kudos to the supervisor for offering exceptional service. When we paid for the bill, he even said that he would be back with the change. I think this is the right attitude. I've never seen such good customer service. Came here because they had a promotion on Groupon where you can get two signature ramen for around $20 which is a pretty good deal! For the Groupon, you can choose from these 4 options: Kokuton, Shio Tonkotsu, Akamaru, and Paitan Chicken. Unfortunately, we had to wait a very long time before we were able to enjoy our ramen. After over 45 minutes of waiting for our orders to arrive, we decided to follow up with one of the servers only to find out that it hadn't even been rung into the system! At this point, we were quite disappointed that our initial server who had taken our orders did not realize or attempt to follow up with the kitchen. I thought she was aware since we made eye contact several times while we were waiting. We thought that she must have noticed since other people who had arrived much later than us received their food already and were leaving! Once the restaurant staff was made aware of this, one of the more senior members (possibly a supervisor/manager) came to us and apologized. He said that we could order anything we wanted from the dessert menu to make up for the inconvenience. He also took our orders and assured us that they would be made right away. I ordered the Akamaru Ramen ($13.50) which is a spicy pork broth with green onions, mushrooms, chashu, and ajitama egg. On the menu, this one had 4 chili icons next to it! I'm glad our server asked how spicy I wanted it (I asked for medium). Otherwise, it definitely would've been too spicy for my taste. It was pretty good but I think I prefer the Kokuton which is their most popular ramen. My sis got the Paitan Chicken ($13.50) which is a lighter broth made from chicken. It had bamboo shoots, lotus, green onions, watercress, chicken chashu, and an ajitama egg. This one was a lot lighter but still had good flavour. However, the chicken chashu was too salty. There was actually another misunderstanding with our complimentary dessert as one of the servers said they could only offer us one ice cream (strawberry, matcha, or yuzu honey) for the two of us... We originally ordered the matcha ice cream but thankfully, the supervisor/manager came back to check up on us and asked if we had decided what we wanted for dessert. We then ordered what we really wanted, which was the Matcha Creme Brulee ($5) and the Panna Cotta with Brown Sugar ($5). The Matcha Creme Brulee was amazing!! It was by far the best part of dining here today. It was rich with creamy matcha flavour and the blueberries on top added a pop of tartness. The caramelized sugar on top was was perfectly crispy and sweet. Although we got this one on the house, I wouldn't mind paying $5 to order it again next time. The Panna Cotta with Brown Sugar was also really good. It wasn't too sweet at all and the panna cotta was set perfectly. Both of these desserts were much better than expected and by the end of it all, we were actually pretty satisfied. The supervisor's great customer service and his initiative to offer us complimentary desserts honestly made up for the blunders of the other staff. Tried out Kokoro Ramen on a Thursday night. My mom lives in the area so we had a family outing at Kokoro Ramen.... Hmmm.... it was ok.... nothing special.... We shared some chicken karaage, and I had one of their Signature Ramen dishes.. number 4... Paitan... It's a chicken ramen.... The chicken Karaage was pretty good. Hot fresh and crispy! Pretty tasty! As for the ramen, the first thing I noticed was that the ramen soup was not hot! It was lukewarm at best. The restaurant was pretty empty and they did not seem like they had to rush so there was no good reason to have a lukewarm bowl of soup! The broth itself was average. I find the broth at Marutama Ramen much better; the broth has a full body taste! The broth at Kokoro Ramen is weak and tastes watered down. It is not very flavourful! Also, I appreciate our waitress telling us that if we want tea it's an extra charge. Nice of her! What does that tell you? It tells you that the waitress knows tea at Japanese restaurants are usually free! She didn't want us to be pissed when we see that the 5 of us had to pay an extra $7 for having tea with our meal! Sorry, but if you're going to offer tea at a restaurant make it free otherwise don't bother offering it! My sister got a Groupon for this place so I guess we kind of got a deal. Errrr... hookkkayy!! What am I missing here?! I've passed by Kokoro Ramen many times and from the shop front, thought this must be a great place for ramen. So with memories of cold shinshsaibashi Osaka nights over steamy ramen carts and post-Ktv nights at shinjuku alley ways, I was hankering for a great meal! Still at partial covid restrictions, the very polite waitress asked us to wait for a table to come open; ok, gave me a chance to look through the menu, but only saw a very limited menu - which is par for the the course for ramen places. But what's with the other reviews with all sorts of items that's not available now?? Ok never mind - ordered #1 and 2 and after waiting quite a while (for the small number of patrons - there's only 4 tables open!!), our bowls came and right away, I was totally disappointed; the saddest looking small amount of ramen was served in a big bowl with pieces of meat, some veggies, seaweed slab and the WHOLE egg thrown in and that's my no.1!! How is one supposed to eat a whole egg in a ramen?! Nope, not cut in half and presented nicely, just peeled and dumped somewhere in the bowl!! Had to stab it with my chopstick and bit into it .... And of course it was fully boiled instead of the 3 minutes egg it's supposed to be! A total travesty for ANY restaurants, never mind a Japanese one, to commit this hanging-crime! Then comes the main attraction- the ramen! Ok, cooked ok per se BUT.... The broth ... tasted like the last time I gulped some sea water when I was swimming. It was THAT salty and that tasteless! Incredible! Asked the waitress for some hot water and I poured the whole tumbler into my ramen and only then could I eat it. Incredible!! The decor and cleanliness is ok and the waitresses were very nice .... But slow as I guess they're new staff - as per the "position vacant" poster in the washroom. So the good stuff: the place is nice and clean, the help is very attentive and very friendly, which I appreciate and the food came out fairly quickly. However, my 2 star rating is based upon the food itself, which we did not find to be that good. The sign mentions "healthy" ramen, so I was a little offput and surprised when the two bowls we got were basically steeped in oil. In fact there was at least 1cm of oil on the top of both of our bowls of ramen. :/. I got the spicy tan tan ramen, which was not spicy at all, did not have any flavor and there were pools of red chili oil on top of the other oil that was already in there...to the point where I had to drain the oil off my veggies, egg and noodles, and just felt a little ill while eating it... and even afterwards my stomach did not agree with the sheer amount of oil I was ingesting. I am not sure if it is because they used ground pork and didn't drain it before adding it to the bowl or if it was the broth itself though. My friend got the tonkatsu ramen, which was also very bland, not much flavor, and had a lot of oil in it. This place is phenomenal! Their staff are amazing, friendly greeting when we arrived and they checked up on us the entire time. We ordered a couple of dishes but their main dish, I.e. Mazesoba (noodles without soup) was just incredible! I've never tried anything like it before - their raw egg just mixes so well with the noodles and gives the food a creamy texture. That deep fried pork was the best choice for the dish - I loved every bite of it! We ordered a couple of side dishes, each fresh and delicious. If I could change one thing about this place, it would be to have a bigger space; but it's already quite big. It's fantastic, which is why it's always crowded. I love how they have a nice little corner where you can take a seat and wait for your party to be completed before you're shown to your table. Their ice cream was so good - creamy and rich! We asked for one with a cone but they had run out - another reason why they are so popular! I'd eat this everyday if I weren't trying to control what I eat. We came to Kokoro since we had a groupon. The one downside was that we could only choose from 4 of the menu items. I wanted to get one of the other bowls that wasn't included for the groupon but it's understandable. It was just different because Ive used groupon at other ramen places and could choose anything from the menu. I got the spicy ramen- Akamaru. It was very spicy but very good. The noodles were the thinner kind which, I prefer the thicker noodles since they still have a chew to them but that was a small con. Overall it was pretty good! read more

First time trying this place. The photos on the menu looks really good. Price is more on the pricey side compared to other ramen places. They also charge for tea. At least they tell you that. I ordered vegetarian and the waitress ask me if I wanted to add soft boiled egg and I said no. The food came quickly. The soup base tasted quite weird. It tasted so sweet and I was expecting it to be savoury. My friend thought it tasted weird too. Two others in my party each ordered different ramen bowls. I had a taste and find that there are too many flavours happening. I wasn't a fan of their ramen either. My cup of water was refilled. I took a sip and something tasted soapy and noticed it was on one side of the cup I had my lips on. That was kind of bad. Sorry, but I'm not going back to this restaurant again. read more

A beautiful decor. Reminiscent of rural japan unique coffee shops and small restaurants that are often done with wood touches and thoughtfulness. Along with two Japanese friends we all had the spicy tan tan ramen. It was spicier than we'd anticipated but the use of ground beef was delicious. first time here and seemed like a nice spot for ramen. My gf and I ordered a bowl and diet coke. as my ramen was coming out my waitress spilled some of the broth into my full cup of coke. She proceeded to not say anything and brought me a cup of ice. I was charged for the coke, and probably should have said something but was surprised at the lack of common sense. I just landed in Vancouver from Japan the day before and wanted to get my ramen fix. KOKORO IS THE BEST CHOICE! The broth was so rich and yummy - exactly like Japan! Their "authentic" version is a bit fattier but had so much depth. My husband and I ordered the creamy chicken ramen and the authentic tonkotsu pork ramen. Both broths were WONDERFUL. The chicken ramen toppings were a bit unconventional but a welcome change. Personally I loved the egg which was perfectly soft boiled. We also got an order of karaage for starters - nicely fried and very juicy chicken. Their desserts looked amazing but unfortunately we had dessert plans already - I will come back just for their shaved ice!! Their decor has lots of character and it's very comfortable especially compared to a lot of traditional ramen places which can be quite tight. Their staff is very pleasant and attentive.
