I came here for a work-related lunch with a budget constraint, so I didn't get a chance to order any sushi like I would at any other Japanese restaurant. I figured any Japanese restaurant worth their weight would be able to pull off a decent teriyaki dish. This one was just mediocre, but to their credit, they did provide a lot of food. Me and the other half decided we wanted sushi after a long day of traveling back from Nevada. I wanted to find someone that was close enough to my house to have the sushi still be warm by the time I arrived. I called in the order and spoke to a very friendly woman who took down my order: 1 order of monkey brains(deep fried mushrooms with spicy tuna and cream cheese to my knowledge), 1 golden dragon roll (which is a deep fried California roll) and 1 baked salmon roll. The order was ready in a timely matter - about 20 mins. The woman at the front was incredibly kind and even complimentary towards me which was sweet. The monkey brains was a nice twist and unexpectedly good! I'm always a go-to lover for baked salmon rolls but even so, this one was sort of on the dryer side. The golden dragon was good as well. It was only docked a star due to the salmon being a bit dry, but I would otherwise recommend this place to anyone looking for a good sushi experience:) read more

The quality is definitely there but the taste they created with it is just not right. I know japanese restaurants likes greeting or creating a cheerful ambiance, but these guys are over the top (not in a good way). A lot of the food was overly salty and overly spicy which hid the taste of the actual seafood. I don't think I will come back again. read more

Being from out of town, I went to Marui Sushi (Corona, CA) based on favorable reviews. The location was accessible at a shopping area, quiet setting (at the time of writing this review) and customer service was excellent! The chef was very engaging. I had the regular chirazi and was surprised with the generous portions and it was fresh! I even had seconds of the miso soup as it was very tasty. As I was immensely amazed with how well my experience was here, I ordered the Marui Combo for takeout... And it was equally good! I would highly recommend this sushi place..you won't be disappointed. Great sushi. Great service. Nice drinks. Reasonable pricing. What else can you ask for? Marui sushi is a solid option for my family and me whenever we are in the mood for some Japanese food. I guess we've eaten there for about 10 times now...? They are known for their rolls but their sashimi is great as well. Just ask the servers or the sushi bar at the what fish is fresh for the day. What I also appreciate is that this is a "mom and pop" type of business. What I mean is that the owners (a mid-aged couple) are on site at the restaurant all the time. The head sushi chef (at the bar) is the owner and his wife is on the floor asking guests about their food and overseeing servers. I see the pride the owners put into their establishment. The servers are great as well. All the servers speak great English and are friendly and accommodating. As a tip, try the Toro sashimi and the hot sake. Those are my favorites. read more

Officially OVER THEM!!!. I had gone to Marui Sushi for years and always found them to be very consistent in delivering great quality in the food, portion size and service. Well... NOT ANY MORE!!!. When I got home the portions were small, crudely cut and had skin on them :( They blamed it on a new chef... IT WAS SPICY and I could not take it back 3rd and final strike - I did not go back for 3 months but craved a healthy salad. I again ordered the Sashimi salad and asked that it be made mild... I repeated it 3 times. IT WAS SPICY plus the portion size of the fish is now 75% smaller : ( PLUS... THEY CHARGED ME $33 FOR A SUMO ROLL AND A SALAD!!! This place does not seem to be enforcing social distancing at all during COVID. It looked like all the tables in the dining area were open for seating when the maximum capacity is currently limited to 25%. Also, the tables were definitely not 6 feet apart. Was very disappointed ! Haven't been here in quite awhile ! We had to send one roll back the Tuna was very rotten (discolored and smelly) there was only 3 other tables occupied and it took nearly 30 min for 2 rolls! The staff was eating their lunch with there shoes off and feet on the chairs while we were eating the tables and blinds and window sills were dirty as can be, and when we told them the fish tasted rotten they kept trying to get us to try another one ! Most the time I am disappointed as my standards are extremely high. I have found if you call around and ask to specific menu questions. 1. do you have Ankimo Aka Monk fish liver. 2. Do you have Spanish mackerel. 1 in 20 will have both. Only the best of sushi bars will have it. They had both. It is either the best or second best sushi bar that I have eaten at in 39 years. For starters, the miso soup was very watered down, and the spicy mayo was more mayo than spicy. The sushi was okay. The rolls were pretty bland (we got a rainbow roll and tuna lover.) We ordered a few Nigiri's, they were all not acceptable. The toro was $19 but was not prepped right (sauces/seasoning) it was poor quality, didn't even have the consistency toro should have. The taste isn't there, definitely not worth the money. They brought us bluefin by accident, it wasn't as bad as the toro, it wasn't prepped right and poor quality. The yellowtail wasn't bad nor good. In terms of service they were nice, but very unobservant, and left my girlfriends drink empty for all of her meal, even when they did their "sweeps." On the bright side the tuna nigiri, albacore nigiri, and monkey brains were good. The albacore was spot on and I wouldn't mind more of it, and the complimentary green tea ice cream was delicious. Our check came out to $83 For this price I'd rather go to Ricky's Sushi off magnolia. read more

First time going here, seen almost a 5 star review so we had to check it out. Must have come at the wrong time because our service was not the best. We sat ourselves because no one was coming out to seat us. Keep in mind there was one party about to leave the sushi bar and a party of 2 dining at a table. We placed our order once we had some time to review the menu. 3 rolls, baked mussels and some sashimi. Some regulars came in after us and they were immediately greeted upon and helped. Our sushi started to come out shortly along with the baked mussels. After our food was dropped, we never got service after that. They were more focused on the regular customers that go in, the whole staff. Never once did someone ask how our food was or checked on us to see if we needed anything even though they were with the party right next to us. Our waters stayed empty for some time, good thing we had some water bottles to fill out water. I never got hot sauce for my sushi as well. Overall just a bad experience that made some good food not so great and turned me off from finishing. I write these reviews because I spend money at these restaurants and expect a great experience with great food and when restaurants fail on something so simple it's frustrating because I paid to have a good experience with great food. read more

The chicken wasn't dry and the california rolls where creamy.My only complaint is that there was so little rice, about a kid size amount. Meet up with an old friend here. Total cost? $48 (including tip and tax) Happy hour is a joke for rolls, you get a whooping 10% off. Maybe I'm spoiled,. but I'm use to happy hour being 50% off rolls. Our total order included a bottle of Sapporo, a bottle of Kirin, three rolls, and an order of edamame. DEFINITELY expected more edamame, it came in a dinky little bowl with what I could have easily picked up the entire bunch with one hand. Beer was decent, $6 per bottle of Sapporo and Kirin, they were the large bottles, the 22 or 24 oz ones. Rolls were pretty outstanding though. (3) Rolls Total: Marble Lobster Roll This was probably the most interesting item I saw on the menu, and I HAD to try it out. I definitely WAS NOT disappointed. If you enjoy rolls, this one is DEFINITELY worth a try!! Maine Roll This is their version of a half California roll on the inside, with baked salmon on the other half, and the top is lined with raw salmon as well. It was very good as well. The rolls are a lot bigger then I am use to, and the cuts of fish tasted fresh and were thick, not wafer thin like some of the places that try to skimp you. Recommend this one if you're a salmon lover. Shrimp Lover Roll I am a shrimp lover, so of course I jumped at this roll! This one was only okay though. It sounded a heck of a lot more appealing then it actually tasted. It has a fried shrimp tempura through the core of the roll, and very thin cuts of shrimp or avocado on top. Idea was definitely interesting, but personally, I felt it fell way short of my expectations from the description. Would probably choose to order something else. Overall, the environment was pretty nice on the inside, outside lacked a lot of marketing to showcase the location, it just said something like "Japanese" on the outside and "sushi" on the window, but indoors was very clean and well taken care of.
