Sadly, the quality at Marui has progressively gotten worse over the years, so hearing that they closed was not surprising. I used to love eating here, and especially when Bruce or an experienced Sushi chef were making the food, it was always a great food experience. However, there were times when I would show up and they had an inexperienced person filling in for a Sushi chef. These people have no business touching raw fish. They're not properly trained and have filthy habits. On two occasions after eating there I had to rush home to use the bathroom. Last year, the same thing happened where no Sushi chef was present and this young guy was filling in. He was handling trash and writing something down with a pen, then proceeded to grab raw salmon and a sushi knife. At that point, I just stood up and said "aren't you going to wash your hands?" He apologized but I was thoroughly disgusted and told the owner that I can't eat here anymore. read more

Long overdue review! My wife and I have been coming here for over 10 years. It is easily the best Sushi spot in the IE and maybe even in the OC. We have tried so many raved sushi spots all over Corona, Norco and various others scattered in other cities. When we find another good sport we say, this is good but not better than Marui! The rolls are nice big size. They are not stingy. Our go-to rolls are the Crunchy Roll, Shrimp Lovers Roll adding crunch, and the Baked Salmon Roll. Their miso soup and mixed tempura are yum! Delicious short ribs that come out in a small cast iron skillet, and also their garlic spicy edamame is a must. Always friendly staff and good service. Even when they are busy, they do their best. Never feel one byte of disappointment of this place. Starting from the sweet and warm greetings upon entering the premises until the great meal we enjoyed. We did ordered the 'tempura veggie' and also the Marui Combo (kinda surprise menu from assorted chosen sushi from the Chef). Veggie Paradise (Tempura Veggie) is crunch and delish while the assortment sushi was nice and a lot for $30. The meal we ordered good for 2 people and we felt full. Additionally there is promo going on 50% off on sake & beer that time. So we got Large Sake for $5. Vibe was great there was TV showing the soccer game with some upbeat music in the background. I was working in Corona, and my brother who happens to live there, decided to have lunch here at Marui Sushi. I am a big sushi guy so I said yeah let's go. Really convenient spot with lots of parking. The restaurant is pretty big for a sushi place, a lot of tables and a couple of booths inside, sushi bar as well if you want to see your fresh sashimi being made. Japanese ladies are all pretty friendly and attentive. They're all working together taking orders and bringing food to the tables, teamwork which is really good. For starters we got some miso soup, shrimp tempura and fried calamari. They top the calamari with red onions which is new to me, never had it like that but it's a good touch. Gives the calamari an extra crunchiness and well as some tanginess. The sauce that came with it was good. The shrimp tempura was amazing, the tempura batter was perfection. Super crunchy and tasty, I just thought the tempura sauce needed a lot more flavor. Super simple and blunt sauce. Ended up using the calamari sauce which had a bit more flavor. Miso was just, miso soup. Simple but good. For our rolls we got the shrimp lovers roll and the baked scallops roll. Shrimp roll was good, they just forgot to top it with the tempura flakes which was supposed to have, makes a huge difference! Gotta pay attention on that. The baked scallops roll was definitely the winner tho. Scallops were fresh, I could really taste that sea side on them. Rolls were pretty big, nice portions, that's why we had no space for dessert. We got here a little late after a baseball game. Only place open past 9pm. We walked in with 5 adults and 6 kids...service was great! Both women that helped us did a great job of making sure we didn't feel rushed or uncomfortable for walking in a little bit before they closed! Ambiance was a cool sushi spot, nothing crazy but very inviting nonetheless! Best part was the food! We had spicy garlic edamame, sashimi, sushi, teriyaki plates, gyoza...the sushi and sashimi pieces were amazingly fresh and such big pieces! All I can say is WOW. My husband and I stumbled on Mauri Sushi on accident after trying to go to a different restaurant and were blown away by the service, fish quality, and huge portions. My husband and I aren't tiny humans...ordered 5 rolls. The server tried to warn us that 5 was too much, but we didn't listen and still ordered our normal 5 rolls. A mistake (maybe) but now we have 2 rolls of left overs we get to enjoy for lunch! On top of the massive portion sizes, the fish quality was excellent. From the first bite my husband and I were blown away by how delicious everything was. Every single thing we tried was incredible. The excellent service here is evidenced by the quick food turn-around and friendly staff! Additionally, the walls are covered in photos of people enjoying themselves here, which was obvious why in our visit this evening. My husband and I both opted for lunch combinations, which were served with miso soup and steamed rice. I chose teriyaki salmon and sashimi (tuna and salmon). A girlfriend and I were driving back home after spending the day at Glenn Ivy and we wanted sushi for dinner. We didn't have the greatest expectations for sushi in Corona but it was the most convenient location so we found Marui. Nothing trendy or modern about this place, but it was homey and the staff were welcoming. We got a medium sashimi platter to share between the two of us and two bowls of sushi rice. I don't know if it was because I spent a day in the heat and sun and in hot tubs (so I needed carbs), but the sushi rice was SO GOOD. It was on the slightly sweeter side and the texture of each grain was just right. The medium platter came with four pieces each of nine different types of fish, all for $65! After looking at their extensive menu, I had feared this was more of a rolls kinda place and hesitated to get sashimi. I'm glad I still got it because I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the fish. The chef surprised us with a plate of poke on the house, which had a bit of a kick and was delicious! I love sushi places that have a good sauce that compliments the fish well. I first was all over Tera Sushi in Magnolia until i ended up at this joint one day, and man I've been hooked since. The garlic albacore roll is the one reason to come here alone. They have a garlic soy sauce that just hits so well with the roll and it's super refreshing especially right now with this summer heat. (I'm making this during the summer for future yelpees lol) Anyway, i accidentally got the udon a while back and man it hit the spot, i actually don't like udon but the broth was really good and it had like fish cakes or something that reminded me of tortillas and well it was soo good. Garlic edamame not great, just jar pre chopped garlic is what it tasted like and edamame and oil. Should have had a soy sauce glaze or something, very bland. Not deserving of 5 stars though, MOMO sushi in Riverside sets bar if this place is 5 stars MOMO is 20, TeRa down the street is better. Once you try MOMO though you are ruined for Riverside county. Great place! Great location. Lots of parking. You are welcome when you come in and they sit you down, they are trying to keep everyone 6 feet apart and mask are require. People are friendly and nice, they kept coming over to make sure we were doing well with our orders. The food is delicious and fresh, the only thing was that the "spicy Salmond" is not spicy at all.
