My best friend is Belarusian and her dad recommended this place to us and I'm so happy we went! This place is a lot bigger than it seems, we walked through the store and noticed they had a big selection of goodies and products. Everyone was friendly. We walked to the cafe through the deli and ordered a salmon bagel. Took around 10ish minutes but we both adored it, they do not skimp out on the salmon. The bagel was perfectly toasted. Marvel Food and Deli was a destination after The Homie visited this location earlier. Not really sure whether this is Tacoma, but it's proximate to Parkland and Lakewood. There's also another Marvel location in Auburn. Ironically, this is across the street from Saar's, another large international market. I made the trek back on 3/1/25. I was very impressed with the organized, well stocked variety of goods. I've become quite fascinated with international and ethnic centric markets. It was quite enjoyable slowly wandering each aisle. I ended up focusing on breads, kvass, smoked and canned meats, cheeses, soup bases, ajvar, chocolates, and biscuits....before I knew it my cart was getting a bit full! Pro tip: bring a cooler to keep your perishables safe on lengthy treks. There are comparable but smaller shops in North Seattle, Shoreline, Lynnwood, and Everett. But if you're in Tacoma/South Sound, this is a great detour for Eastern European groceries and culinary fans! read more

We found out about this place on social media so came to check it out. We've been making the trek down to Tacoma to eat here ever since. It's an Eastern European grocery store that's well stocked with Russian staples as well as other European items. The deli has a variety of meats and cold cuts. At the entrance is a counter that sells piroshki, pastries and other hand pies. Another counter has desserts. There's a restaurant attached where you can order all sorts of hot items at the counter, including pierogi, cabbage rolls, soups, meats. There's another case that has all kinds of desserts to tempt you. After ordering and paying, you grab a table to enjoy really tasty food! The dining area is spacious and clean. If what you ordered is not ready made, they will bring it out to you. Don't miss the desserts (if you're not stuffed with the tasty food)! Restaurant staff is friendly and helpful and the bathrooms are clean (ask for the code). Don't forget to bus your table after you're done. Food in the cafe is incredibly as many people have not had many Ukrainian foods or other European delights. Full butcher and bakery and imports with many produce items lower than American commercial stores. There is another location in Auburn, WA as well. This place will always be one of my all time favorite place for lunch! They have the best deal on the food and a lunch plate has 2-3 proteins and 1-2 carbs. You must get their potatoes with gravy! Plof is also amazing with the gravy. I always get their half potatoes and half Plof with lots of gravy. They have different varieties of meat, and dishes for you to choose. I personally like their cabbage rolls, stuffed peppers and fish with tar tar dipping sauce. My husband loves their meatballs and stuffed peppers! This isn't a big market, but they make great use of their space with lots of unique inventory. Discovered it because my sister in law is Azerbaijani and she was craving some food items from home, so wandering the aisles we found some weird items that were so worth trying. The foodie in me can't wait to come back and try more items. They have a hot food area near the front where you can get thinks like peroshkis and they have an attached restaurant (that I can't recommend because even though they look clean and it's nice to try some of the foods, they had a fly problem in which flies were landing on some of the baked goods and they ran out of water in the dispenser and it took forever for them to refill it). The deli staff can cut off a couple of samples so you can try foods before buying which is also nice, but don't monopolize their time, especially when they're busy, because they have a lot of people who need their help. read more

I absolutely love this store. It's spacious, clean, soft music playing in the background and the staff is very friendly. I am used to authentic stores with very overpriced products, but here everything is reasonably priced, including fresh produce. I went simply for the bakery as I was looking for one specific type of pastry. The one I was looking for was a Napoleon. I did purchase two others as well though. The staff was generally in attentive and seemed uninterested but were not rude. I was very disappointed in the Napoleon. It was not fresh, and in fact had been frozen and was not completely thawed after the 45 minute drive home and unrefrigerated for a total of 90 minutes. I was looking for something sweet...this sweet tooth of mine needs to go away. Anyways. I hopped on Yelp and saw this place. It was the cream horns that really made me get up and go try it lol. A lot of people can become intimidated when walking into a store that is culture based but I love to experience new cultures which is why I came here. Of course a black girl walking into a Russian/Europe established...bound to get stared at. Didn't stop me though. I made my way to the desert counter and ordered several items. This is a grocery predominantly for Russians. What I go for is their excellent fresh made pastry. Yesterday I bought a cheese and cherry pastry that was just wonderful! I usually buy their strudels - poppyseed or cheese and golden raisins. Their salads and cold cuts are good. I don't know much about the Russian and Ukrainian cold cuts, but I try something different every time. The have lots of different jars of pickles and other things. They also sell packaged and frozen goods and fresh produce. There is a restaurant at the far end of the building. It closes fairly early, but excellent for lunch - stuffed cabbage and other Eastern European dishes and salads and some dessert items, too. Definitely worth exploring! read more

Delicious European treats at great prices. I found this through Yelp while searching for a lunch spot and fell in love with the photos of their baked goods and the cutest pastries! (Check out my photo of the peach pastry, it's adorable!) I got 5 different breads, some filled with sausage, another with ricotta cheese, another with mushrooms, a potato one, and a strawberry filled one. I love the restaurant at this nice grocery store. The food is great, it's a little cafeteria-style nice cafe. I've only had the things from the counter, not the cook-to-order (breakfast, crepes). It's lovely. Don't miss the Moldovan Eggplant salad omg that's my favorite thing to eat right now. They make a lovely potato salad too. The hot case is full of stuffed fried crepes, chicken things, nice fried fish, cabbage rolls, and bbq ribs (lol that doesn't seem eastern european but the ribs are good). I love this store!! I randomly stumbled upon it while driving by - mind blown it has been there for many years. The customer service is excellent, everyone is so kind & helpful. The deli truly has the best meats & pricing! I come weekly to buy German bread (they also sell frozen loaves btw)(pretzels 10 for $10 can't beat that price), and brötchen 10 for $7). They have my favorite German candies all at reasonable prices. Many baking ingredients, candy, cookies, produce, mineral water & tons of juices, they truy have it all at the BEST prices! Oh, my. My husband and I come here almost every weekend because they have the absolute BEST coffee. I've had a lot of coffee in my time being a WA native, but nothing beats their coffee. The deli is amazing and offers a variety of foods, and the most delicious crepes, bagels, and breakfast options. The servers are always kind and helpful, too. I wish I could review this deli over and over again. We first came here, from Bonney Lake on a Monday looking for Crepes... not wanting to drive North. When we pulled up, we were a little concerned to see this was attached to a grocery store, but we went ahead and went in. The deli is clean and inviting. We were greeted immediately by warm, smiling staff who answered all our questions. We tried a pastry pocket stuffed with meat and although it was in a case- it was fantastic. Our crepes were made fresh and did not disappoint. We each had a coffee that was made perfectly. We went home with several bakery items from the deli and the attached store, all of which were incredible. The staff in the store were every bit as friendly and helpful in the store as they were in the deli. We returned today and had chicken and gravy- just wow, another meat pocket and crepes. So clean, hot and fresh. We typically eat a whole 30 diet so this is a treat for us, but the food feels and tastes clean. I only wish this store were closer to home and that the traditional stores we are used to would run like it. read more

I went here for the first time, on my way home from a friends house. And nobody was wearing masks I was the only one. I went to complain about it and the worker just shrugged at me. We had so much fun walking around, picking out different baked goods and deli foods. It's like taking a trip to Eastern Europe but without buying a plane ticket. Not knowing what to order, we followed the other folks and got the eggplant salad in adjika sauce, shuba, and loved both. The pastries came out freshly baked around 9am and were great. They have more of a bready texture, which was different but enjoyable. For some reason their fruits are better than our local Safeway, maybe picked closer to ripeness? At the bakery, a woman who took a very long time was in front of me. There was a 2nd employee there but both employees studiously ignored me. Later, I asked an employee if she could help me find the saurkraut soup. Two employees discussed this in a slavic tongue and one said she would be back "in a second." She never returned so I asked another employee for the soup. She picked up a jar of borscht and said, "Borscht." I asked again. Again she said "Borscht" and then said "No," when I asked again. Eventually, she told me they might get it in again, demonstrating that she could, in fact, speak English. When I checked out, the clerk charged me $6.99 lb for some loose candies. When I pointed out it was $5.99 lb, the "Borscht" lady came over and insisted it was $6.99. Eventually, they picked out the several pieces of candy I had gotten mixed in at the higher price and they clearly knew the rest of the bag was $5.99. I will say there was a gentleman who politely helped me find tomato juice but the rest of the service was execrable. I can't help wondering if I would have been spoken to courteously and not overcharged if I weren't so clearly non-Slav. I think people to whom I'm giving my money should treat me with at least a modicum of courtesy. read more

I have had this place bookmarked for several years and have never made the attempt to go look for it. Little did I know, I have been literally driving in circles around it, going to other places nearby (Saar's Market, Wolfe Club Coffee, etc.) and didn't realize it. Since I moved away, my parents have been sending me chocolates from here. Some I love, and some are weird, but I couldn't tell you what is what since I can't read any of the wrappers. There is one in particular that had a purple wrapper, which I am pretty sure was a chocolate-covered prune. I absolutely hated it. There are a few others that I may have thrown away, but generally, most of them are pretty good. During my most recent trip back, I made it a point to stop in on the way home from the airport. I immediately fell in love with it as soon as I walked in the door and saw the bakery. Anytime I am in the area, I go to Pike Place Market for piroshkis. It is definitely nice to have a place to get them that is a little closer to where I stay. The chicken and potato and the mushroom and potato piroshkis are fantastic. The sweet cheese and raisin strudel is delicious, and the coconut ball is one of the best things I have ever eaten (my absolute favorite). I did not spend too much time looking at anything else, but there seems to be a great selection of European food items, especially in the deli. I think one of the best things about Marvel is that you get a free coffee when shopping there, though I am uncertain whether you have to spend a certain amount...but you aren't limited to simply coffee. You can get any sort of espresso drink that you want! I didn't have super high expectations of great espresso, but my latte was surprisingly perfect. For a specialty grocery store, I find Marvel fairly inexpensive. Their staff is also incredibly friendly, and I look forward to coming back again and again. read more
