I wasn't sold on Mary's at first, but with all these donut places looking to be more Instagram worthy than taste worthy, I recently gave Mary's another couple tries. I picked out a dozen donuts for work on some recent occasions and they have always been a hit. Where we work there isn't much around, and Mary's sort of has the old fashioned flavor you remember from years ago. Yeah the donuts are greasy, a little heavy...but that's what makes it good. Nothing fancy, just very much not good for you goodness. They can be a little pricey for what they are, (around 14 bucks per dozen) but as an occasional treat for the office it will be my go to spot read more

The glazed donut I had from here was perfection. It was very tender and the fluffiness was due to very fine pockets of air (no gaping holes) which gave it an exquisite crumb. It seemed to have a faint hint of almond flavor, but it could have been my imagination. Either way, it was heavenly. I wish I had gotten more than one. The apple fritter was very crisp and crunchy with less apple than I might have expected. I also felt it could have been a bit sweeter. It was good but not my favorite. I got a buttermilk bar and found it very dense and sadly, a bit dry. It had a good flavor though. My husband found the cream puffs "weird" and described the outside as being like a "skin". I thought they were great until he said that and then the texture threw me a bit. Still, they are a delightful unique option and the raspberry ones had good flavor to them. The place was surprisingly spacious inside and the service was friendly. I will be back to get more glazed for sure. Those alone would be worth the drive out. read more

We tried a new breakfast spot in Santee and to our surprise (after further yelping the area) Mary's Donuts was the next block down. So of course we had to stop by and see what all the rave was about. It was a cold and wet Sunday morning and we were surprised there was not a long line out the door being it was only 9:30am. Friendly staff and clean venue. They are known for their blueberry donuts but that morning I just wasn't in the mood. We chose a giant twist and it was still warm just freshly placed in the display case. It was probably shy of being a foot long in size it would satisfy any sweet tooth you may have. It was only $1.90! After we got our donut and drinks, that's when the rush came and the line went out the door. It stayed that way for a good 10-15 min. Mary's also specialize in gigantic donut's which could replace a cake if the Birthday person is a donut lover. With advance notice of course. read more

We learned about Mary's when they were at their original location on Mission Gorge Rd. I heard a tale that the property owner was not extending their lease. A rumor was that the building was sold or that someone else was gonna clone the name to capitalize on the brand as Mary's Donutz or some other lame copy. Outrageous speculation. Either way, the original Mary's Donuts then relocated near GTM at the strip mall on Carlton Hills Blvd. An occasion line forms on special occasions or weekends and there's a number of friendly folks working the counter, so the wait isn't too crazy. It actually gives you a chance to check out what's available, then order more than you should because, oh yeah, that blueberry one looks good too, they just put out a fresh tray of maple bacon bars, and I haven't had cream puffs or their fruit burrito in a while. Mary's moved? I hadn't been to Mary's in quite some time and I saw that they had moved. I decided to grab some donuts for old times sake, and headed on down to this new location this morning for breakfast. I went with a chocolate buttermilk bar, a powdered sugar jelly donut, and a milk. Total was under $4.00! Same great people working there, and I am happy to report, the same great donuts! Glad to see that Mary's is still in Santee, and glad to see that their donuts are still damn delicious! The new shop is more spacious, too! Win, win! Best donuts in the San Diego area! read more

Let me be clear. I love donuts. Call me a donut aficionado. And it's been a long time coming to find a really good donut place. And while a lot of other small mom and pop donut shops have their charm, it's hard for them to compare to Mary's Donuts! They're open 24hrs which is already a plus. We came in later in the evening like past 9pm, and the lady working there was very nice and welcoming to us, not to mention really patient while we tried to decide what to get. They had a delicious and wide variety of products to choose from, including classics like maple bars and the Homer Simpson, and my all-time favorite donut, the cruller. (Side note: if your donut shop, and you don't sell crullers of any kind... thank you, next.) We ended up getting half a dozen donut holes, 1 Maple cruller, one sugar donut, one blueberry with sprinkles, and one chocolate with Bavarian cream. Everything was super delicious, firm outsides and soft insides. Will definitely visit again next time you're in the area! You guys are awesome keep up the great and fabulous work! read more
