Donutopolis is the best donut shop I've ever had the pleasure of eating at. If you live in the San Diego area it is worth your time to visit. In fact even if you don't live here you should stop by. You won't regret it. If you want mediocre pastries that do nothing but scratch your sweet tooth, there are dozens of places out there that are happy to do the bare minimum. Donutopolis in Poway is not one of those places. For the same price if not better than their competitors you will received not only some of the best donuts you have ever eaten, from flawless classics to innovative specialties, you will also receive so of the best customer service you have ever had at a donut shop, or most other restaurants for that matter. The staff have made their small corner store into a friendly and comfortable place to pickup treats for your events or sit down for a fulfilling breakfast any day of the week, and with special made-to-order treats for larger events, such as their giant birthday donut, Donutopolis is your one stop shop for all your donut needs. A personal favorite of mine is their maple bacon bar which I can comfortably say is the single best maple bacon donut I have ever had, and they are consistent. In fact once when I went in to get one before work they were sold out, and when I asked if they had any the baker offered to make me one right then and there. For no extra cost he didn't just sprinkle bacon bits on a plain maple bar and call it a day, he used fresh maple icing to glue the bits onto the bar, a bit of extra effort that I truly appreciated as I had to eat it on the go. It's the little things like that which show me that the people running this store and making these donuts aren't just doing the bare minimum, they care about their craft and they are dedicated to bringing you fresh and delicious donuts every time you visit, never cutting corners and never disappointing. read more

It's located in a shopping center, so parking was easy and there was plenty of it. The moment I walked in, I was completely overwhelmed in the best way possible. Wherever I go I always am out on the hunt for a good doughnut. Found this place and thought I'd give it a try. The place itself is simple. They had an average amount of traditional doughnuts. I bought a chocolate raised doughnut, sprinkle vanilla cake doughnut, doughnut holes and a maple bar. The bread on all the raised doughnuts were light and fluffy. Taste-wise was average. The glaze was not sweet at all, but so much it didn't taste like anything. The maple doughnut wasn't too far from that as well. The chocolate doughnut was not too bad. The chocolate flavor was definitely there. The cake doughnut was a little on the dense side. I would say this place was overall average and probably will not be back. I normally come here for donuts, my oldest son loves them and they are sold at a great price. Today we tried some breakfast sandwiches and they were delicious. Bacon is super crispy and not greasy, the egg is cooked perfectly and the croissant was flaky and amazing. Definitely coming back to try more sandwiches. Finding a bakery that offers gluten-free donuts is always a challenge when you're sensitive to wheat, have Hashimoto's, or are living with celiac -- but thankfully, this little shop in Poway came through! Open really early at 5 is such a a plus! They have French Crullers! They had it dipped in strawberry, caramel, chocolate or plain. They are getting five stars as it had a nice crunchy exterior while still maintaining a soft pillowy interior. I was informed that not too many places will make Crullers due to the ingredients being expensive so I really appreciate them for making it. FAVORITE LOCAL DONUT SPOT! After trying out several local donut places, this is by far the best place! They typically have a great selection and have plenty in stock. Nothing worse than going to a donut shop and them not having any donuts left or not very many to choose from. This place definitely keeps the donuts coming. It is REALLY good! Not too sweet, but explodes with flavor and has the perfect amount of icing. Their donuts are soft and really flavorful, and they put the perfect amount of icing on the top, not too much but not too little. This is a hidden gem! I have had the egg white blt on a crossiant it's delicious. I've had several of their donuts, also very good. Bagels excellent. Coffee, very good. Service always friendly. When I learned that this shop makes ridiculously large birthday donuts, I knew I had to get one for my donut lover's birthday. You can order up to 3 tiers for the birthday donut. I just got 1 tier and it was the largest donut I've ever seen with my own eyes. FYI: It is not a cake decorated to look like a donut (which was what I was worried about). It is 100% yeast donut, which makes it so amazing. I called the day before to order and paid $13 at pickup. You can put whatever glaze or toppings you want on it. My husband and I bought a dozen donuts on our maiden voyage to this donut shop. Out of the dozen 1 was edible (apple fritter). The rest tasted like cleaning solution and old oil. I got half a dozen mixed of 3 sugar, 1 blueberry, 1 red velvet, and 1 chocolate. The sugar dough was a bit dry but it was fluffed, light, and airy.
