I love Mary's Pizza! We had it all the time when we were little and it tastes just the same. I can only complain about prices but that's every restaurant nowadays. At least with Mary's I know what I'm paying for and know I like it! They have gluten free pizza crust and a gluten free pasta option too. I'm all about the pepperoni pizza with those little pepperonis that curl up and get super crispy.. I love them so much. I always ask for fresh basil too. I might like Mary's Salad even more than the pizza... lettuce, shredded cheese, shredded carrots, kidney beans, green beans, garbanzo beans, hard boiled egg, salami, and beets. Soooo good. We like to get blue cheese AND italian dressing (my dad swears he invented this dressing combo haha). If you order delivery or pick up, make sure to ask for extra dressing, otherwise you'll just get one tiny little container. We usually order takeout, so I'm not totally familiar with the service or in-person dining experience, but the place still looks and smells the same, and the staff I've talked to have always been kind and accommodating. read more

I'm basing this review on their meatballs and lunch offerings, as I have not had much of Mary's pizza at this location. Environment: to eat outside here is a fabulous, warm place. The wait staff are very warm and down to earth. The spaghetti and meatballs lunch with salad is truly awesome if you are craving that old school spaghetti feeling. First off, Marys Pizza Shack is SO MUCH MORE THAN PIZZA! We sat outside for lunch on the shaded patio and spent some time going over the extensive menu. We came hungry and everything sounded good so it was a tough decision. Our server was excellent and patient with us. We decided to split the Ancient Greens Salad and the Chicken Parmesan entree. The salad would have been hearty enough for the two of us, it was full of delicious ingredients and a blend of fresh lettuces all in a light citrus vinegarette. But...once the entree came to the table it was like we had grown a second stomach. We devoured the pasta that was cooked al dente and had a light white sauce and the breaded and lightly fried chicken breast that was covered in a fresh tomato sauce. The cheeseburger I ordered had zero flavor. The service was atrocious! The young lady gnawed and chewed in her gun the whole time. It took more than 5 minutes for us to greet us and there were only 3 tables (including us). She finally took our order and only came back to deliver the food and give us the bill. No check in to see how everything, or we were doing. We had to go up to her to get extra napkins, as she was too busy on her cell phone. The soup and salad comes with bread and butter but we also had to request that. 5the minestrone soup my aunt got was superb as was the Marys house salad. Cant beat the salad there. The place was clean as it should be because as stated before, only 3 tables were being used. Train your staff on customer service. read more

Server was MIA, so the hostess wiped down the table as we were being seated. I want to love Mary's, I know it's an institution. Their pizza is good, but pricey for what you get. Service runs hot and cold - definitely between locations, but sometimes at the same site on the same visit. I stopped in recently - because I wanted lunch, and parking was a pain everywhere else, and yes, I realize that's a low bar for choosing a restaurant, but hey - that's how the day goes sometimes. I was greeted by one server who told me to choose a table and they'd be right with me, and then I waited for awhile...until a different server showed up. Other than dropping my food (and needing to be reminded that part of it was missing), nobody checked to see if I wanted another beverage, or otherwise stopped by the table, until it was time to drop the check. Lunch - which was a small, oily caesar salad, a soft drink, and a modestly-sized, decently prepared eggplant parm that was unaccompanied by any pasta (noted as such on the menu), but included bread which I had to remind the server to bring half way through the meal (and which he said, while included, I needed to 'ask him for' - I beg your pardon? It's on the menu as included with the meal. What are these hoops, and why are you asking me to jump through them?). Lunch was $25 + tax and tip. I will say that the outside deck seating, while a bit chilly this time, is charming with its paper lanterns. On balance, given the price vs value of the food & the lack of consistency in service, Mary's is going to continue to not be my top choice for a meal (or continue to be the place I meet someone else for lunch when they insist on that as a choice). read more

So we got there and I had a hankering for Spaghetti and meatballs. No bread was served. My partners salad came a house salad and I got Cesar salad. The iceberg lettuces looked wilted. The spaghetti was too much with store bought sauce. Not authentic fresh tasting. Sorry I grew up in NYC and have ALOT of first generation Italians as friends. That sauce didn't taste like it took 6 hours to make in the back. The meat lacked seasonings. Mary's legacy is lost. This is the second time I give Mary's a chance and this place gets a C --sorry! I am yet to see someone working here frowning, everyone always seems to be in a good mood, really helps adding the feeling that I'm welcome here and not an inconvenience. I like pizza a lot and being someone who likes to travel a lot I can say the this place has some of the best there is only probably is that I belly keeps begging for more even after I eat. anything on the menu makes me want more. I've been in The Valley since 1981 and pretty sure well over 200 pizzas have come from one of the two Mary's in Sonoma. Over the last month or two I've ordered a Toto's and Mary's specials. Each time I was deeply disappointed and Missing Mary being there to maintain her reputation. I just ordered a Toto's again and I'm very sorry to say there is no longer a decent non-yuppy pie here. No flavor, not enough if any sauce and I kept having the impression I had water in my mouth with every bite. I'm now forced to drive to Vallejo for Napoli's on Tennessee. I wrote this pizza place off for most of the 2 years I've lived nearby, judging from the lackluster reviews. But I gave it a try last week, and I was delightfully surprised at how shockingly good the pizza was. I would venture to say that it's the best pizza in town and probably stands above any of the pizza places I have frequented in S.F. north Beach. The dough they use is thin yet chewy and crunchy on the edges , and the tomato sauce and ingredients are fresh. The restaurant is easy to find, and lots of parking in the private lot. Beautiful patio seating under a big magnolia tree. Pizza, pasta, breadsticks, everything you want in a pizza joint! Our waitress was slow and cranky. She made some crack to us about "gobbling our pizza" (a medium for two people) which was weird. The pizza is just okay, but very expensive. Medium pizza, breadsticks, one ice tea and one water was almost $50.00. And it was not good pizza. A small smattering of pepperonis on our pepperoni pizza. The ambiance is diner/cafeteria. I will always love Mary's pizza shack. I remember when I was a kid going to the original one there on 12. Mary Fazio always took care of us wayward kids. She had the biggest heart anyone could ever have. Her food was always cooked with love and she made sure those of us that didn't have any money didn't go hungry. Such a loving family God bless them. Finally I dropped in for a bite to eat on a weekend evening. I have driven by tons of times and always wanted to eat here. I am a regular at the Dixon location and enjoy a Mary's pizza and Mary's salad. First of all, don't drive like a speed demon into the parking lot. Watch out for folks walking off the porch. It is a straight shot from the porch steps into the parking lot. Anyway, the place was packed. It is smaller and less spacious than the Dixon location. The tables are much closer together. Since the place was packed; it was loud. LOUD. Like I can't hear the person sitting next to me loud. Oh the Mary's salad...that darn salad is fabulous. As I was eating it, momentarily all the noises were drowned out. I was in the zone with my salad. Order it with the Sonoma dressing...yum. But for those vegetarians out there, be forewarned that the salad comes with a slice of salami served on top. Yes, meat will touch your salad. Just letting you know. Plus you get complimentary bread with butter pats. It is served warm, oven baked. So it has a crisp crunch to it. Our waitress was super nice. But she was a bit forgetful. She forgot to give us plates, napkins, and our bread. We had to remind her each time. Also we got someone else's bill. We pointed it out and she fixed it pretty quickly. But again she was super friendly. She knew all the regulars and chatted them up as well as is. I have a feeling, or it is me wishfully thinking she was not usually this forgetful. I was really disappointed that on Valentine's Day. I picked up a large pizza to bring to a lady friends house with her daughter and half was supposed to be sausage which turned out to be no sausage larger than my pinky fingernail.
