If you're looking for the BEST and most creative tacos in Sayulita, look no further! Chicken, pork, shrimp, fish, octopus, beef, steak, vegetarian tacos.. you name it, they have it! Something for everyone! Located in downtown Sayulita on Av. Revolución, El Itacate is the perfect lunch spot for large groups! I was with a group of six and really enjoyed how spacious and comfortable it was. The setup is half indoor/ half outdoor, allowing for a lot of seating flexibility. In fact, I noticed a bachelorette party of fourteen seated out front! However, given this was Mexico in October, it was a hot, humid, muggy day. And thus my group and I opted to sit in the inside "half" of El Itacate. Although not fully indoors, having the shade and fans "blasting" towards us made my group feel that much more comfortable and ready to order! And speaking of ordering, I love how creative El Itacate is with their menu. It's plastered right by the entrance in large, bold lettering! Making things VERY easy with no true "menus" required! I loved the creativity and ease in which my friends and I were able to order our lunch! Another thing I love about El Itacate are how generous they are with their SALSAS and Guacamole! Each taco order comes with five "salsas" and a load of limes. Of the three liquid salsas, one was creamy tomatillo based, another smoky chipotle, and the third "spicy tomato." No. But the food was freshly prepared in an open kitchen, it tasted good, and the free salsas and toppings (including killer grilled onions and very spicy salsas - even the mild knocked me out) provided with every entree were high quality. We ordered guacamole and chips to start, and it was pretty good. They serve those heavily oiled and thick chips that aren't my favorite, but the salsa had a nice flavor and chunks of jalapenos and tomatoes. Wanting to sample several items, we got 4 different tacos: steak, chicken, poblano pepper, and shrimp. The best was the pepper taco, followed by the chicken (which was all white breast meat). The meat portions were very large, served on top of a dual corn tortilla. The tacos were very plain though, and they needed the added toppings and salsas. Otherwise, they'd just be piles of meat. Bonus points for three very important things: 1. the restaurant is very clean and well maintained. 2. the prices are clearly posted so you don't have to worry about the "tourist surprise" and overcharging that Sayulita is well known for. 3. there are many vegan and vegetarian options, and they are good! El Itacate doesn't serve bargain street tacos, but they're decent enough as a choice for lunch when you're in town.

I browsed around and was obsessed with their beautiful murals, their typography they have around the restaurant and even their bathroom is a cool spot to spend a few minutes (ha). The margarita was on happy hour and definitely made me very happy! And their guacamole was on point! But as I went to leave I was informed about their best sales point of all -- their rooftop bar! I returned later that evening to hang out on their rooftop deck to enjoy a great live band, delicious cocktails and stare longingly at their BEAUTIFUL mural on the wall by @adamisaacjackson -- this ALONE is worth the trip. I can't wait to go back and El Conejo is a staple of the amazing vibe of Sayulita.

We visited this spot multiple times during our stay in Sayulita, and it quickly became our favorite sit-down restaurant! On my first visit, I had the grilled fish taco and special shrimp taco, both of which were amazing. The next time, I tried the chile relleno with shrimp, and it did not disappoint! I also sampled the house-made Jamaica and horchata - both were fantastic, and they give you generous portions! Their margaritas are delicious too, especially the passion fruit one. For my final meal, I had the huevos rancheros, and it was delectable. The staff is always so friendly, and they're great at accommodating larger groups. Mary's has exceeded all our expectations! This hidden gem is just a leisurely stroll from the beach. They offer a delightful breakfast and lunch menu featuring authentic dishes made with the freshest ingredients. We started our meal with fresh guacamole and salsas, followed by several of their best-selling tacos. We enjoyed chicken, shrimp, and beef tacos, all bursting with delicious flavors. For the main, I ordered the Seafood Pasta and my partner had the Macho Chicken. The Seafood Pasta is amazing and loaded with seafood. The Macho Chicken was moist and delicious. Our server, Rafael was the best! Great personality, is warm and welcoming. I can't wait to go back again when we return to PVR.

Wish we ate here more often…read more There were two tour guides with their group and one of them said this is the only place where you can find authentic Mexican food that is not polished. We got the "porcion" choice that comes with beans and rice and 1 meat/fish choice for $40 pesos and delicious and small fresh watermelon juice for $20 pesos. We got marlin, mole chicken and bistec for our meat choice. It was a filling $10 US dollars breakfast. There was a variety of tasty condiments! Highly recommend!

I'll admit, I was a little nervous at first since no one really spoke English, but they were super friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely amazing -- full of flavor and clearly made with care. I honestly wish I had tried it sooner. Don't sleep on this cozy little spot!
