We stopped in Rico Mac Taco to escape the rain. We weren't even that hungry, but we ordered food since we'd be taking up space. The restaurant was bustling with diners and seemed like a popular destination. Our waiter was polite and efficient. My brother ordered Queso Fundido con Chorizo. It was piping hot when it was brought to the table. My brother said it was very good. I enjoyed a carne asada taco. It was decent, but I wasn't blown away or anything. We also had chips, which were served with a variety of sauces. The pico de gallo was fresh and delicious. Rico Mac Taco provided quick refuge from the rain, but we probably wouldn't visit again.

We were looking for tacos late night (11:00) & this is where we ended up. Service was excellent & so was the food!!

Delicious sopes!! Service is excellent, everyone is really friendly. We are definitely coming back to try the tacos!

This is a restaurant that's hard for me to describe. I've been coming here for more than a decade, and any restaurant that can survive that long in Puerto Vallarta must be doing something right. But I still find something just a little off-kilter about this restaurant. It's "open air" with plenty of street ambience, but it's inside the building, with tables and chairs more reminiscent of Denny's than a Mexican restaurant. The menu seems oriented toward Gringo tourists who want "mexican" food, but don't want to stray too far from the food they're used to at home. So the menu has Fajitas and Guacamole and Tacos; all the Tex-Mex traditions. But it's also long on Hamburgers and fries and the like. In other words, it's a "safe" dining choice for anyone not 100% committed to the full Mexican experience. You have al fresco dining, but you're inside. You can have "mexican" food if you want it, but there are safe, familiar options if you get cold feet. But for real, authentic, honest Mexican food, look elsewhere. As I say, I've dined here for years, and it's still got a lot going for it: The service is fast and friendly; the food is consistently what I expect it to be. The prices are reasonable. But for authenticity there are better options in PV.

Walked past this place while walking around Puerto Vallarta. Had enough space and seating for our group, so in we went. Seems to be tourist aimed but they did have variety on the menu. Kids could eat burgers, fries, spaghetti while adults could have tacos, burritos, etc. bathroom was clean. Nothing amazing or stand out here to be honest but a worthwhile stop for a break at least.

After walking around the Puerto Vallarta beach front and the Malecon, we decided to drop by this shop because it looks clean, spacious and the air smelled delicious. Upon entering the restaurant, the waiter measured our temperature and offered some sanitizer. Once we sat down, we placed our orders and a tray of salsa and chips were offered. I was so excited to see the array of color and flavors, and they all tasted freshly made. Our tacos were delicious as well. I ordered three al pastor tacos, they were tender with bits of crunchiness. My boyfriend got three shrimp tacos, the shrimp were flavorful and the flour tortillas were tender. I'm happy to report both were delicious! I also really enjoyed my horchata. It was refreshing and not too sweet. It tasted so different from the ones that I get from home, and I already know that I will miss it terribly when I return home Overall, I really like Rico Max and would totally recommend it!

We went here for breakfast one morning because I saw that the place always seemed to be busy so I wanted to check it out. The chiliques were the star--the chips, chicken, and red sauce were perfect. My cheese omelet was good. The French toast did not look like much but was very sweet with lots of cinnamon. Service was helpful and friendly. Our waiter spoke English very well so I have no idea what the review from April 2019 was talking about that claimed "the staff does not speak English." In fact, I heard all the waiters speaking to customers in English.

Walked by this place a few times and came back for dinner and was not disappointed. Staff was friendly, had English menus (not that we needed them) and the food was fantastic. We came back the next day again for lunch we enjoyed it so much. Highly recommend.

We arrived from Philadelphia and landed here for our first meal of the trip. This place is delicious! I had the shrimp tacos, my kid had the chicken. Both so flavorful and hit the spot. Lots of sauces with the tortilla chips, great open air feel and the best guacamole. My margarita was strong and my daughter enjoyed her pina colada . I recommend!

So on our way to old town, our bus driver, had everyone get out of the bus and we were not in old town yet. It was dinner time, and we ran into RIco Mac Taco. They had a lot of locals there, so the first thing in my mind is.. it must be authentic and good since locals are eating there. My husband had fried red snapper which he said was pretty tasty. I had 2 al pastor tacos, and this is one of the ok ones after having many in this trip. The whole experience was ok. My expectation was not met, maybe it's the tourist in me.

Tacos were bomb! Salas were on point. Horchata was 10/10. The Vibe was a bit dry, but overall would return for the food.

Tough meat, flavorless tacos. No wonder the taco stand on the side sells out fast and is always full. I will never eat here again.

There are places that simply serve food--and then there are places that become part of your story…read more Pepe's Tacos is exactly that for me. Having come here since I was 10 years old, this iconic taquería isn't just a local favorite--it's a timeless institution that continues to define what truly exceptional tacos should be. Since 1987, Pepe's has built a reputation that extends far beyond Puerto Vallarta, and one visit is all it takes to understand why. The star of the show--their legendary tacos al pastor--is nothing short of extraordinary. The pork is expertly marinated and cooked to perfection, resulting in meat that is incredibly juicy, tender, and bursting with deep, savory flavor. Each slice is carved with precision and layered onto warm tortillas, creating a perfect foundation for what comes next. What truly elevates these tacos is the balance of toppings. The sweetness of the pineapple and the sharpness of the fresh onions cut through the richness of the meat beautifully, enhancing every bite with contrast and complexity. It's a masterclass in simplicity done right--every ingredient playing its role to perfection. Beyond the food, the experience itself is just as memorable. The service is impressively fast and efficient, especially considering how popular this spot is, and there's an undeniable energy in the air that makes it feel alive at all hours. It's the kind of place you can count on for a late-night bite, where the atmosphere is casual, vibrant, and always welcoming. Pepe's Tacos isn't about reinvention or trend--it's about consistency, tradition, and delivering excellence time and time again. Decades later, it still holds its place as one of the best taco spots in Puerto Vallarta, and for good reason. Some things never change--and when they're this good, they absolutely shouldn't.

Out front, the trompo spins over charcoal fire, hand turned, on display to the street. The man at the blade is a performer, part craftsman, part showman. He hones his knife between razor thin shavings of al pastor, then in a reflexive flourish nips the pineapple crowning the meat, sending a sliver flying only to catch it with a tortilla. It is theater, but it is also instinct. Inside, the crowd looks like the United Nations. A tour group from India next to a Dutch family with half a dozen kids in tow, the Canadians eye the Americans with deserved suspicion, and a few locals whose plates are piled high while tourists settle for modest portions. It is the natural order of things, and nobody complains. The charcoal scent in the meat makes clear this is al pastor's intended preparation. I have never had the pleasure of eating from a coal fired trompo before, and it is instantly apparent that this is the way it was meant to be. Someday, somehow, I will rig one of these up, because I need this in my life. Pepe's is not just a taco shop. It is a master class in tradition, theater, and flavor, with a dining room that feels like the world gathered around one spit.

While the wait can be a bit unpredictable, it's usually not too long, especially during the summer. However, if you visit in the winter, it can take a while. The food here is reasonably priced and the portions are generous. The only thing that confuses me is the fruit water of the day. The cups are incredibly small, and for 30 pesos, I expected more. I've noticed that some tables have their water refilled, while others have been changed. I'm not sure if this is a policy or just a coincidence. The service is okay, but nothing extraordinary. They have a limited number of tables and don't have air conditioning, so it can get quite hot inside and outside. However, you're here to eat and go, so don't expect a sit-down experience. One important thing to note is that they only accept cash. So, make sure to bring some pesos with you.

It's thicker, more cheesy than what I've ever had before and very delicious. The ribeye had so much fat that we had to pick through it just to eat it. The al pastor was very average - I've had much better at plenty of other taco spots. The biggest disappointment was the chorizo. It wasn't traditional chorizo at all; it looked and tasted more like chopped-up hot dogs. We barely touched it because it wasn't what we ordered expecting, and it just wasn't good. The presentation also wasn't appealing. The meat was simply piled on top of two tortillas, making everything messy and difficult to eat. They were also pretty stingy with the grilled jalapeños. The salsas didn't do the food any favors either. None of them really stood out, and the green guacamole salsa actually tasted like it had gone bad, so we stopped eating it. Service was attentive, but almost too attentive. Staff kept coming by every few minutes to ask if we were finished or if we needed anything. While I appreciate good service, it made us feel like we were being rushed through our meal instead of being able to enjoy it at our own pace. Overall, I don't understand the high ratings based on our experience. With so many amazing taco spots in Puerto Vallarta, this one didn't come close to meeting the hype. Unfortunately, we won't be coming back.
