The thought of writing this review was painful because I remember when Marzellas first opened. It was my birthday meal of choice every year as a kid. This place was the best in the area, BACK THEN. We moved away and I happened to be in town this weekend and couldn't wait to get a pizza and an Italian hoagie. The level of NGAF around here was astounding. It starts with your first impression. One side of the sign above the entrance is missing and has been so a LONG time. Lack of care. They entryway hasn't seen a coat of paint in decades. Lack of care. Then you walk in and it just feels dirty. I saw this in lots of other reviews over the last several years and guess what they displayed...YUP, lack of care. I was greeted by a grumpy little teenager asking "do you have an order in?" with pain in his voice because he clearly doesn't care much for people. I decided to get the 12 inch Italian hoagie and a small meat lovers pizza. Because I used a card (in a mostly cashless society) I was ransomed FOUR PERCENT! Luckily I checked in with Yelp and mugged them for 10%. I'm six percent up right? Wrong! My pizza was so bad I threw it away at my first fuel up on my way back home. My SIXTEEN dollar SMALL pizza went in the trash! Have you EVER thrown away a meat lovers pizza? Me neither. It had a rancid smell. Somehow I pushed past that and worked up the courage (ignorance) to take a bite. SOUR! What the @#$%!! All the lack of care I noticed throughout this place found it's way on to my pizza! The Italian hoagie was better but not anywhere close to expectations when getting an Italian hoagie. The finishing move on an Italian hoagie is the vinegar, oil, and oregano. My hoagie was nearly dry. I ate half and saved the rest for when I got home. I added vinegar, oil, and oregano and enjoyed that half. Everywhere you looked they were pushing their social media profiles. They even had QR codes for them. Instagram has had ONE post in 2021 and the last Facebook post was Sept. 2nd with a pinned post from Nov. 2020 asking for reviews. Lack of care!! The kitchen seemed reasonably clean and the dining room looked 100 times better than the rest of the building. It was noon on a Friday and I was the lone customer. No another customer came in and the phone didn't ring the entire time I was there. Maybe that is what sucked the life out of this business. I don't know but the level of NGAF here is so high I can say I witnessed the opening of this business and I will probably witness the closure too. A neighborhood icon has been run into the ground. We've had food from here before and it was good. Today was a truly bad experience. It took an hour and a half for delivery. I called twice to inquire about my order. The first call was after 1 full hour. I was told then (and not when I placed my order) that there was only one driver. 30 minutes later I called again. This time, the driver pulled up while I was on the phone. I asked for a little help on the bill due to the trouble and was told by a manager no. We ordered 1 pizza and 1 order of mozzarella sticks. The mozz sticks were soggy and cold and the pizza was cold. $35 plus driver tip to eat cold food late. read more

Sadly, the quality here is very lacking. We have purchased italian hoagies for years and have noticed the past few years that they are all over the board. Sometimes they seem like they have cheap meat and other times there is more ham in it than anything. They haven't been tasting like what they used to. read more

We had their pizza and it was good. The staff was friendly. Take out is fast. If you are in Trappe or Collegeville it's worth a try. This place has been here for a long time, so they must be doing something right! Pizza was smaller then I'm used to for a large pizza, so if your a large family maybe buy 2 pizzas. read more

Sadly the quality has gone done a bit. The pizzas are lacking any sauce and have become grilled cheeses. This is disappointing as their pizza used to be pretty solid. The ItaliN hoagle was even more disappointing as my grade school cafeteria did a better job. Also not digging g the credit card charge I know times are tougher but thi is a lame expense. Definitely good pizzas and sandwiches! However service Is a little slower than most pizza places .. with that said our orders came back correct ! Our meals were hot and fresh pizza could be a little crisper but that's my taste not everyone else's . The sauce was very pleasant with a delicious taste of basil oregano and garlic big plus. Pizza also had good quality cheeses and wasn't greasy! Prices were a little high but overall I could in good consciousness recommend this place to any one and know they would have a good experience ! read more

New to the area, I was recommended to order from here. I called 30 minutes ahead to for carry out, arrived 35 minutes later to a restaurant with no customers and my order never being recorded in their systems, thus it wasn't even made. Seeing zero remorse on the employees faces prompted me to say forget it when they said they'll start and have it ready in "five minutes." Working 4 years in food industry myself, I know the difference between caring about customers and not caring. This crew definately did not. I took my son's girlfriend on a tour of Ursinus and told them I'd give them a treat for lunch. We all agreed that a pizza at Marzellas was worth a round trip from the Jersey shore. Best by far, funny thing is the new owner was making pizzas there when I was in College at Ursinus, I was across the street and Mrs. Marzella would send us leftover pies for free. Pizza was the best then and still is. I can't find a pizza to match theirs in Ocean City, NJ area. All the staff are super friendly and great atmosphere. read more

Collegeville peeps, we order pizza from Marzella's pizza. My 5 year old daughter found 2 dimes in their pizza. One in the crust and a different slice one was in the cheese. I took photo and emailed it to them at pizza@marzellas.com. Lady on phone apologized but my daughter or my 3 years old could have choked to death Update: i feel the need to update this and made post public. We called back for an explanation and refund but the owner didn't believe us, she said her cooks have no money as it is, conversation got heated to say the least. The owner did not take any responsibility at all. She told us never to call back and hung up on us. UPDATE: Just an update. Marzellas has responded. I am posting what they said on a shared post and what they emailed me. It appears Marzella's took accountability. Thankfully no other incidents were reported. Here's that what they said - On behalf of Marzellas, we would like to thank you once again for bringing this recent matter to our attention and we sincerely apologize for your unpleasant experience. After 50 years of proudly service the community of Collegeville, we can say with complete certainty that this is an isolated incident and does not reflect the standards of our operations. With that said, we have taken all necessary measures to immediately and effectively remediate the issue. All dough, sauce and cheese (which is made and cut fresh daily) was immediately disposed of and replaced. All staff were retrained on proper food preparation and restaurant etiquette. Rules were put in place, effective immediately, to prohibit money or foreign objects of any kind in or around food prep stations. All drivers and cashiers were retrained to properly pack and deliver food to customers. As promised, we issued a full refund for your order upon notification of the incident, advised disposal of all food. The employee that dealt with your phone call is no longer with us. Here at Marzella's, we set a high standard for ourselves. We deeply value the safety of our employees and our customers and we strive to ensure that each and every customer has a positive experience. I LOVE Marzella's! I travel 3 hours round trip just for a savory slice of their round shaped pizza; It's like crack to me! The beautiful woman at the counter, Jackie, is always so helpful in taking my orders and getting me the freshest, most delicious pizza in the tri-State area. Wings also awesome! If I could give Marzella's 420 stars I would. As my wife finished giving labor to our precious baby boy, Dylan, all she craved was a 16" Buffalo Chicken pizza for $16, a steal! God I love that woman. God damn, I thought nothing could be better than their pizza but I was wrong. Hands down, the worst pizza place I've been to in Collegeville. I've been there 3 times and all 3 times were pretty horrible. I'm really done giving them second chances at this point. Three of my major gripes with this place: 1. Attitude: Every time I've been there to order something, the people act like I'm putting them out by being there. Let me paint you this picture.....I have money and I want to give you that money in exchange for a service. So when i order a pizza, I'd like for you NOT to look at me like I just told you to go clean my toilet. Seriously, you would've thought I had just insulted them, the look of contempt on the cooks face. Customer service is a BIG issue for me, I get really mad with places like this. 2. Food: Very sub par. Seriously folks, this is Collegeville, we have a ton of pizza joints to choose from here and the giant shopping center they are building will add more meal options. Places like Marzella's need to step up their game. I think the only reason they are still around is because they are within walking distance of Ursinus, that's it. Nothing memorable here food-wise. 3. Time: In my experience, the time it takes this place to get your meal ready is far below acceptable. I ordered a pizza once, they told me "an hour to an hour and a half" for it to be ready. This wasn't a friday night folks, this wasn't during the Super Bowl, this was just a weeknight. I told them "thanks, but no thanks" that time. Who waits that long for a pizza when I can go to any one of the several other establishments? Every time we ordered from there it took alot longer than usual. Stay far, far away, there's so much more out there folks. read more

I honestly love this place. I see the other reviews are a couple of years old, so perhaps a lot has changed, as I have only been going there for two years now. My girlfriend goes to Ursinus, so we frequent Marzellas. The staff is always extremely friendly to us, often catering to our (admittedly) bizarre requests, like only wanting to buy a couple slices of Sicilian pizza, opposed to an entire pie, creating boneless chicken wings, etc. etc. The prices are more than reasonable, and they have quite a variety of items to choose from (I recommend the Italian Stromboli). One of the best pizza places in Collegeville, and my frequent go-to pizza joint! I don't entirely understand the issues others have had with customer service as I have never once had a problem. Quite the contrary, I've always had a good experience, both on the phone and in the restaurant. They have always made us feel welcome. Food is delicious, especially their meatball parmesan hoagie. the pizzas go from small to extra-extra large, and prices for many of their pizzas are quite reasonable. Delivery, unfortunately, can take quite a while (upwards of 45 minutes), but it's also across the street from a college, and 45 minutes is what you can expect from Papa John's. I never hear anyone complain about them, so maybe this is average for a delivery timeline. All in all, I've been very happy with Marzella's and recommend to anyone! read more

Have not ordered from here in years, since I'm back in town for thanksgiving I was looking forward to a good cheesesteak hoagie and a pie. The pie was OK and the cheesesteak hoagie was a disappointment - only because we ORDERED American cheese on our sandwich but received a sandwich with SHARP PROVOLONE, mind you I like sharp Provo, but wanted American. We order from this place a lot & the food is always good. We live in a odd spot (gps doesn't like us) but they always find our house. We just had an issue with a delivery for the first time & they made more than good on it & couldn't apologize enough for the inconvenience. I was told I would get a phone call back from them about the problem & I actually got the phone call. I hadn't been back to Marzella's since the Marzellas themselves ran the place, which has been over three years ago. They were really nice folks and the steaks were really good. Marzella's is a local institution that I remember growing up with when I lived in Collegeville back in the day. Today's experience was a little different, at least where the customer service was concerned. I called in a take-out order, and when I went to pick it up, no one was at the cash register or in the kitchen. I stood there for what seemed like five minutes when finally the husband (*not* the original Mr. Marzella) noticed me. He had his back to me and was sitting, chatting with some other customers. I didn't even realized he worked there:0 He came across as a little incovenienced but did jump up to get my steaks. When I asked him about a specific detail about my order, I found out that it was made incorrectly. By this time the missus came out from wherever she was hiding. She said that the wrong way was the way we ordered. I disagreed with her because I knew exactly what we actually ordered. The husband chimed in to agree with the wife. Then she rather huffily offered to remake the sandwiches, but I had a family member who had just had outpatient surgery waiting for me in the car. Also, by that time I was ready to get out of there because the atmosphere was getting tense. So I said "That's OK, never mind," because I didn't want to stand there continuing the debate with the two of them. No apologies from either one. Despite the attitude, the steaks were great. They forgot the mushrooms we ordered (another mistake we didn't discover until we got home) but the steaks were tasty and the rolls were really fresh. The quality of the food is the only thing that kept this rating from being one star. In the past I've had other pizza/steak places get my order wrong, and the people there have been gracious and apologetic. Unfortunately, my experience today tells me that this place leaves a lot to be desired in the customer service department. Woe to the customer who ends up with the wrong order. You would think being the only game in town that sits on the corner of Ursinus campus that they would have great food, I mean like a classic college town pizza joint that is an institution! Well not here...Overpriced, typical pizza shop with nothing that sets them apart, well unless you count price increases for smaller amounts. Cheesesteaks I have had are fatty, typical Sysco foods. Customer service in here is deplorable as well. At one point I accumulated enough points for a free small pizza, when I went in to order it I asked the guy at the counter where the machine went that recorded our visits as I had a free small due to me. His response "it's out being cleaned" he knew damn well they got rid of it. I let it go and waited till the following day and again went back to get my free pie, well this time I was told they got rid of the machine we would enter our phone numbers into and was abruptly told i had no free small pizza coming to me. So basically they lost a customer for life over a $6 pizza, need I say more about how they understand customer service. I will say this however to end on a good note...They have a killer bacon cheeseburger! read more

Let me tell you how much I ADORE Marzellas. They are the best little mom and pop pizza joint there is around this area! They use aged provolone cheese not the rubbery cheap kind that most places skimp by with. Mr and Mrs Marzella are always pleasant and are more than happy to accommodate you [i asked for pineapple and pepperoni and they GLADLY made it, and remember that it is "my pizza" that I prefer!] They rock a $1 slice special at nights, and a super large party pizza special too most of the time. Been going to Marzellas for years now and i have never had any issues or problems with them! Screw Pats, Geno's, or whoever else. They can take their nasty rubber cheese with em. This is an Ursinus hangout being located across the street from the college,but fear not the entire area has embraced this family owned pizzeria for some of the best pizza and sandwiches around. The first time i tried Marzella' pizza i was not impressed, we had a Veggie pizza and while it was topped very generously, it made the pizza itsself a lil soggy and lost soem of its appeal for me. Second time was a total Redemption! this time we had a plain pizza and it was very good...right amount of Cheese and sauce and the crust was delicious. I called from Vermont to have a large hoagie platter delivered to a very busy, very large college wrestling tournament. The staff I spoke with was undaunted. This is hands down the best pizza anywhere. Lucas the pizza maker outdoes himself every week! Thursday night is pizza night and by Friday morning I'm already looking forward to the next Thursday night. It's that good! I've recommended it to friends who all agree. We usually take ours home and give it a quick hit in a 410 degree oven... gives it that extra crisp on the crust (which is amazing by the way).
