Zero stars. Be warned: this man does not listen to what you want, he does what he wants to your hair. I am devastated over a hair cut I had here. I came in for a trim and shape for curly hair. I explicitly said I did not want to lose length and mentioned maybe an inch and shaping around my face. Gabe said two inches and he knows what length looks good on people. Well, he easily lobbed off 4.5 inches of curly hair which any curly hair person knows equals more. When I said I was concerned he told me he didn't cut that much off and it was all unhealthy. He also mocked me and said "someone wasn't ready for a a haircut". I'm beyond upset knowing it will take two years to get my hair back to the length it was. I have multiple special events coming up and will likely have to look into expensive temporary extensions. I was nervous trying a new person but when they only take a little off you can recover. I will never go here again ( by the way... appointments were open galore which should've told me all I needed to know). I paid plus a tip because I always feel bad not leaving a tip but I regret it after having a few days to adjust and sleep on it. Don't go here if you have specifics needs, Gabe won't listen. I didn't find him very friendly or kind as the other reviews state. I found him condescending. He did what he wanted to do to my hair. Horrible experience. read more

I have been going to stylist Jessy for over 5 years and she is a true artist. I went to her with frizzy horribly bleached hair and she put life back into my hair. I have thick dark curly hair and she knows how to use proper techniques to keep my hair healthy with color. She is honest and real about my personal hair goals and she colors with care. When bleaching from really dark hair you will never be instantly blonde so the other reviewer is just salty and was not ready for the commitment of transforming dark brown to blonde in a healthy way. Times like these we all want to feel safe when we have services like this done and you can definitely feel safe here as they are following all Covid requirements to ensure everyone's safety. Best haircut I've ever had. I have curly hair, so I requested an appointment with Niccii. I was a bit nervous, because even I didn't know what I wanted in a hair cut. It has been such a long time since I felt confident in my hair style, so I wasn't even sure what would work at this point. I called Restoration around 1 and said, "I'm sorry, I know this is totally last minute...do you have any walk-in availability this afternoon?" I made a last minute appointment to cut 4 or 5 inches off of my hair, and brought a picture with medium length, layered hair. My stylist was super nice, and every thing seemed fine until she dried my hair. My layers were super choppy and jagged. I pointed it out and she took more length off. It didn't look any better, so I asked her to blend it more. We went back and forth several times, and I realized I needed to just get out of the chair before my hair got any shorter. I called as soon as I left and I asked to come back in and have it fixed by someone else. I was told I would have to wait 3 days, and the receptionist could not have been less sympathetic. I stressed that it is really important that it be fixed because I have a job interview on Tuesday, but no one was willing to fit me in to fix my layers. I am grateful they are going to fix it Tuesday night, but I'm really upset that I have to go to an interview with my hair like this. read more

I have tried several salons in the city and my cuts were okay... until now! Showed Tim photos of cuts I admire... he listened to my ideas and made a few suggestions based on my hair type! BEST cut I've ever had!! The key is when it's washed and now my turn to style it - Just did that and I couldn't be more pleased... the true sign of a precision cut! I am a typical bleach and tone and was searching for salons in my area. I worked with stylist Jessy who was supposed to be the expert bleach and tone colorist at Restoration. When I went in, she did not lift the color properly and my hair was orange, blue and blonde. At the end of the appointment she said to come back in and she would fix it. When I came back in for her to re-do my hair, I was met with total hostility. She made it known that coloring my hair was a complete nuisance. Moreover, she asked me not to come back?!? I don't know about you, but if someone messes up my hair, I feel they should humbly fix it. This is definitely not the way to win friends or influence people. See the picture below. Update.. The owner of the salon reached out to me. He did offer to recut my hair but I had already made the almost the two hour trip to have my hair cut by the person who did my extensions. As someone who used to work in customer service, the last thing you do is blame the person for their experience at your business. Instead of saying I am sorry for what happened to my hair he proceeded to blame me. First, he blamed me for not going to the person who did my extensions in the first place. Yes, it is my fault for not wanting to make a two hour trip to get my hair cut two days after my wedding. And will never take the chance on a new salon again after this experience. But how is my decision to try a new salon an excuse for poor service? I was than told that he was sorry that my stylist did not give me the cut I wanted. As you can see it has nothing to do with not getting the cut I wanted, but everything to do with my hair being cut uneven and choppy. When I asked for a refund, because 75 dollars is a lot to pay for my hair pretty much being destroyed, he asked me why I didn't discuss the price with my stylist before he cut my hair. The price had nothing to do with it. I am willing to pay a lot of money for a good hair cut. But as you can tell from the picture that did not happen. I was also asked why I messaged them on Facebook. Well, that was the only way I could send them a picture of my hair as they do not have email. As you can see I was blamed many times for my experience at this salon. Instead of being offered an apologize or refund for my experience there. I wish the outcome would've of been different. If they had simply said I am sorry for what happened or offered me a refund or even a partial refund I would have no problem changing my review. As I understand people have off days. But this did not happen. I assume like someone else stated here that they are just so busy they don't need new customers or care about their reputation. read more

I was going to a salon in Lakeview but my stylist was moving to a location further from home and wanted to stick to something locally owned and in my neighborhood. This is the best haircut I've ever had! If you have curly hair, trust me, go to Niccii. She will really walk you through how to style your natural curls. I feel like all of my friends go to her now because she's just so good. Niccii will talk to you about your options and make suggestions, but at the end of the day you're gonna end up with exactly what you want. Yes, it's a little bit pricey, but it is very worth it in my opinion, (and she may also give you a little touch up for free in between cuts if you ask). I think it happens to every woman eventually. You leave a salon iffy about your new hairdo, go home, look in the mirror, freak out, cry, and call your mom. For me that time was a few weeks ago. But this is a four star review, right? So we know this story has a happy ending. I headed to Restoration armed with a Deal A Day coupon. I'd called about mid-week and been very pleased to get an appointment that very weekend. Not knowing anything about the salon, I just took an appointment with the first available stylist. I will say the salon made a not fantastic first impression. There were two very cute, though noisy, dogs running around and my stylist reprimanded me for having washed my hair that morning (Apparently color "sticks" better on dirtier hair. News to me.) I described what I wanted with my highlights and cut. The stylist showed me a red hair swatch and I indicated that that was too maroon and showed a swatch that was more what I was looking for. Then off we went. The stylist did a great job on my haircut, but my highlights were not at all what I requested. Objectively, they probably weren't bad, but they were far funkier, obvious, and maroon-red that what I'd wanted. I've never done this before, but I asked him to fix it before I left the salon. He put on a toner that darkened them somewhat, but it was still not at all what I wanted. Cue at-home freakout, tears, and call to mom. I called the salon the next day they were open and asked to come in to have the highlights fixed. I also requested I have a different stylist because I didn't feel my first stylist and I were really on the same page. I was able to get another appointment the coming weekend with Tim, the salon's owner. The second visit went way, way better than the first. I found out the dogs were Tim's and were only there because they had to be out of the house on that particular day - they aren't regular guests (though they ARE adorable and super friendly). I was only able to give Tim vague directions along the lines of "I hate this, you HAVE to fix it" but my hair came out absolutely beautifully. Tim was able to tame down the red and add some other lighter highlights. I love it! So overall, a hair happy ending. I'd totally go back to Restoration, but I'd stick with Tim. Restoration is definitely expensive, but I literally don't think I've ever been so happy with my hair. read more

I've been a bit of a salon jumper these past few years. After a few amazing cuts with Alyse at Strange Beauty, I moved further north and tried some duds I won't bother naming. You would think that I'd be skittish spinning the wheel again one week before my wedding. Luckily for me, I got Chris at Restoration and was in very good hands. Chris not only cleaned up my outgrown cut, but did so in a way that made it the most manageable that it's been in months. When he heard I was getting married and didn't have someone doing my hair, he styled it after the cut the way he would if for my wedding. I wouldn't have picked it for myself, but that's why you go to a professional. I absolutely loved it and booked him for my wedding day. He even came in an hour early so I could make the early ceremony. Needless to say, I felt fantastic on my wedding day, not only for the awesome hair, but for the lovely and laidback start to my day chatting it up while Chris did his thing. SO I may have been foolish and cheap and impatient and went somewhere that mangled my beautiful long hair. Who are we kidding, I totally made a huge mistake going somewhere cheap convenient and not good enough! Lovely lovely lovely Gabriel and the team at Restoration made me feel at home, very kind, listened to my issues, and made sure to get me the best cut possible to fix this atrocity that had happened. Essentially Gabriel cut my hair twice trying to keep some of the length but the horrific layers that were put in required it to be bobbed off. And he happily put in this extra work to make sure it was the best it could be. He did a spectacular job and assured me that he cut it knowing I wanted to it to grow back out, and that in 3 months he could clean it up to help it grow out looking good. (no Oh you should really come back 6-8 wks trying to get you to spend all your money there) Then said I'd likely be able to go back to my every 6 month to a year trims. Other highlights not specific to my debacle but awesome reasons to go to Restoration: - Offered beverages (including wine) - Awesome Shampoo Girl (including the little extra neck massage) - Very beautiful salon - Great Products (while I sat there several people came in off the street just for the oh you carry my product) - 8 stylists so they are busy and can book up on the weekends, but won't be crazy far out to get an appointment - Not CRAZY expensive, like get what you pay for quality expensive ( Gabriel was $70 for a women's cut) * do bring cash for tipping. i only come here for Daniel, my sister brought me to him two years ago and i'll never go to anyone else. He understands our crazy thick hair and does wonders! I really like this salon, its cozy and pretty inside, everyone is really friendly and they offer you a drink when you come in! i'm not a big wine person (yet) i tried my sisters white wine and it was soo good, i got one for myself. I had my first cut at Restoration about a week ago with Romy. My hair was below my shoulders and I wanted to go to a chin-length bob. Romy was very thorough. She gave a great shampoo, neck and head massage. She was very careful and precise with my cut. And she was great to talk to. I noticed after my first shampoo at home that my hair was falling funny. Romy had given me a blunt bob and to no fault of her own (I have VERY thick hair), it felt really heavy and awkward. So, I called the studio to ask what could be done. Colleen was so understanding and made me a follow up appointment with Romy the next day. I asked if it would cost anything and she said, "of course not! if you're not happy, we'll take a look at it and fix it." Wow - I've never had such great customer service from a salon. Today I went back and told Romy how I was feeling about it. She was so sweet about the whole thing. She spent another hour flat ironing my hair and giving me layers. I thanked her at the end of the appointment and she said, "of course! it's my job!" I'm much more happy with this style. Above everything else, no one ever made me feel bad or awkward for wanting something different and they didn't charge me at all, though I gave her a tip. I will definitely be back! Called to make an appointment with Dawn and disappointed to learn that she left...a half a year ago. So, luckily for me and my outgrown roots, Carmelo was available to fix me up. Carmelo recognized me from my previous visits and from living in the neighborhood. He made me feel totally comfortable from the start. His chair is right by the window so it's great for sunlight and people watching, but since it's right by the door, he made sure I was warm enough underneath my robes. Thankfully, he didn't give me a hard time about how long it had been since my last color appointment or how fried my ends were. And he seemed confident about working with my hair type (long Asian hair). I couldn't be happier. My color turned out exactly as we decided ("level 3 which is very close to my own shade and complements my skin tone very well") and with my dead ends gone, my hair cut looked and felt great. Carmelo even trimmed up my 7 year old's bangs while my hair color was setting. Gratis. My daughter and 5 year old son loved the Hershey's kisses they were offered. (By the way, thank you Restoration for not being another child-hating business on Clark Street.) One thing I forget every time is to bring cash for the tip. Great salon! I saw Dina today and my highlights look amazing! I used to go to Art and Science in Evanston, but my highlights always came out barely noticeable or all over blond, but Dina's job today was that great in-between. They noticeably brighten my look without being overly streaky. The price was better than A&S, as well: my full highlights on my very long hair came to $150 before tip. As an aside, I don't like to chat during my appointment, and Dina was great about prompting conversation (if I had wanted to chat), but leaving me in peace when I let the conversation lag. Note: As others have said, you can't put your tip on a credit card. Bring cash or a check! Wheelchair Accessibility review: Yay, totally accessible, the front door had no step or anything. Front door is not revolving and has only a single door that opens out. The space inside is not too huge, but was plenty big enough for me to maneuver my chair for the hair coloring/cutting station to the shampoo station. I transferred to their chairs in both these stations, but their chairs are not bolted down, so you could probably stay in yours and have them move theirs aside.
