So I had to return it . I the ordered a Coronita Margarita and that is/was tasty. They do have many different offerings of tequilas. And honestly fairly priced. I started with the Fondido de queso basically a Chorizo fondue. It was very good, only the chips were stale. Not all the chips so just so you know, I ordered the chicken mole enchiladas. The service has been very accommodating. The flavor from the mole was perfect, smooth rich a touch of heat and chocolate. Very flavorful and with the sides of black beans and rice, a tasty pairing. There is side of sweet corn , completing the plate. Great dish. I arrived at 1130 which apparently was the best time. By noon the place was packed and jumping. What an awful Tourist Trap. This is a place that once you come one, you will never return - and the level of service and quality of food reflects that management knowledge. First interaction: They advertise a Happy Hour on M-F from 5-6 PM We had this interaction with a server in the bar. "Can we get an order in before Happy Hour is up?" Server "Of course. (Looking at phone the time on their phone). What would you like?" We order. Drinks are brought over along with the check for full price drinks. Me "Can you please fix this check? It's not 6 yet and you are still on Happy Hour, that's why we rushed over." Server "Oh yeah, today we don't have Happy Hour so there is no discount." Me "What so you mean, we ordered these drinks on Happy Hour and now you are telling us there is no Happy Hour as advertised." Server: "Well, we don't do Happy Hour when there is an event in the area, so they are full price." Second interaction (after waiting 45 minutes for a table in the restaurant). We ordered the "made to order table side guac" for 15.50 for an appetizer. About 10 minutes later, a guac is delivered to the table that was either run through a blender or was taken from a tub with a spoonful of pico mixed in. So much for the advertised table side experience or fresh avocado. The guac we buy at Trader Joe's and from Costco are way better. Third Interaction when ordering an entree. I order enchiladas and they have red or green sauce. I ask, Can I get both red sauce on one and green sauce on the other? Response, "well there's an extra charge for that". Besides being lied to about "Happy Hour" and about the "Table-side" Guac and them being told a basic request is going to cost extra, it's is c extremely clear that this place has no respect for their customers and no expectation that anyone will return. We've been coming to Tequila Jack's for years, and my father-in-law has been a weekly regular for even longer. Because of that, it takes a lot for me to leave a negative review. The margaritas are excellent, which is honestly what has kept us coming back despite repeated negative interactions with the same hostess lady over the years. This isn't based on a single visit. In 2022 after our daughter suffered a stroke as an infant, we would occasionally bring her in a stroller and simply ask for a table where we wouldn't be blocking walkways or inconveniencing other guests. Even then, we were consistently met with an attitude that made us feel like we were inconveniencing her by asking for a simple accommodation. Most recently, on April 24th, my husband and I came in for a date night. We were told an estimated wait time and received a text when our table was ready, but we missed the notification and checked back in about 10-15 minutes later. We completely understood that our original table had been given away. We were then seated at a table we weren't comfortable with and politely asked if we could wait for another option. We made it clear we were willing to wait. Instead of being treated courteously, we were met with eye-rolling, dismissive responses, and a tone that made us feel unwelcome. When I later asked if there was an estimate on the wait, I was again met with a curt response that felt unnecessarily hostile by the same hostess. At that point, we decided to leave. What disappointed me most wasn't the wait or the table assignment. Restaurants get busy, and we understand that. It was the feeling that, after years of visiting this establishment, we were treated like an annoyance rather than valued customers by the same hostess lady. One would hope that being married to a manager would inspire higher standards of customer service, not the impression that basic professionalism is optional in the hospitality industry. Happy hour prices + view of the marina are fantastic. We've only gone during happy hour because we just love the outdoor patio & the prices. No wait at 5pm on a Thursday. Patio: covered on top with heaters. They pull down additional side covers along the patio when it's super windy, so sitting outside is still very comfortable no matter the weather. Went on a Saturday afternoon and there was no wait, with plenty of seating available both indoors and outdoors. The menu offers a wide variety of drinks and dishes. It leans heavily toward Mexican food but also includes some American options like burgers and buffalo wings. I ordered a combination plate, which comes with 2-3 items of your choice, rice and beans, and Mexican corn pudding. I chose the pork tamales and taquitos. The pork tamales were pretty good, but the taquitos were bland and I didn't end up finishing them. The sides were decent overall, and the Mexican corn pudding was my favorite part of the meal. This is somewhat a staples here in Shoreline Village. The very first time I've been was only by default. We were next door for happy hour which the wait time was extortionate and decided about this place. Fast forward many many years later and here we are. Shoreline village is a cute little waterfront that offers some dining options, loads of tourist traps with the shops and a just a cute overall little waterfront. Happy hour was happening and we didn't, well couldn't decided on where we wanted to go. Started off with looking at the menus at what places were offering them and then we ended up back here. Selling point, the nice waterfront seating that looks out to the marina. It was noted to check in at the front desk since we walked in from the back but was told to have a seat anywhere we like. Majority of everyone was on the patio enjoying the sun. We got a couple seating along the hi top looking out to the marina. Menus was brought out first but did notice chips and salsas were brought out as well. It did take a while for ours to arrive. Let me say, the salsa was nice with that little kick to each bite. And it was bottomless which is also a plus. You don't get that at most places nowadays. It did take a little while to order as it seemed like the waiter was taking everyone's orders both at the bar section and patio. We only wanted a drink and maybe some small bites. For the price, it was good. House margaritas on the rocks was 8.00. Pre mixed already but it was quite nice. Food wise, the taquitos (3) with guacamole and some chicken strips. Lol, totally not your mix with margaritas but it sounded good...lol... Bar food bites with our drink. Taquitos, they were a bit too hard. Had to take it apart to enjoy it. The beef was tasty at least and perfect with the salsas. Chicken strips, basic so you can't go wrong. Unless you can and it's a total mess on your part for ordering it. We did want another drink which took a very long time to come. Seemed like the waiter forgot as he was now making drinks behind the bar. After waiting and seeing other people get their drinks before us, I had to walk up to the counter to remind him again. It was nice along the patio seating but they did come to drop the curtains which the whole point was enjoying the sun and the view. Didn't ask if we wanted it drop or not but instead just did it. Had to asked them if they could raise it a little so we can still see out. The drinks were nice. Food was somewhat whatever for 6.00 an item, can't beat that. I believe there were about 6/7 items for bites. Overalls, drinks and the ambiance was nice. People watching was great as your literally along the boardwalk. Service, it was hectic during happy hours. Nice at the start when we walked in but hectic toward the end. I don't think I've ever had a meal here besides a quick stop for happy hour which has alway been good. Tip, make sure to validate as it's 2 hr free parking. We forgot and just thought it was automatic 2 hrs free which came up to 10.00 for parking when we left. I'm sorry to give a poor review because tequila Jack's has often been a nice standby when I am in Long Beach. The location is excellent as it is right on Shoreline Drive in the middle of the village. You can sit outside and have a view of the water, which is always delightful. I believe most people come here because of the location and not necessarily the food and drinks. But I make it a habit to go on Tuesdays because they have an excellent deal on taco Tuesdays. Tacos are only $1.50, an excellent deal. In the past, I have had delicious vegetarian tacos. I was a little disappointed when I saw that those were no longer on the menu. I ordered the fish tacos, and I must say I was disappointed. The quality seemed to be much worse than what I remembered in the past. You might be thinking that should be expected for the price and you might be right. The service was very poor. I could never find my server and after an extended period of trying to catch anyone's eye, I chose to walk up to the hostess and ask them to send over my server. I would say 3.5 stars is right but our waiters definitely brought this up to a 4! My friend and I celebrated our joint birthdays here and we had a great lunch. Portions are HUGE here! My brother informed the staff about his allergies before ordering and was assured that his meal would be prepared safely and did not contain those specific allergens. Unfortunately, the staff appeared unfamiliar with allergy protocols, and we have little confidence that cross-contamination precautions were being taken. Before finishing his meal, he had a severe allergic reaction and was rushed to the emergency room. While we were lucky in the end, it took extensive care to get him to breathe. When we asked follow-up questions about ingredients and food preparation to inform the doctors, we received no answers from both the waiter and manager. This was very upsetting and makes us concerned for others' future safety. Food allergies can be serious, and customers should be able to trust that their concerns are being taken seriously. While others may have had a different experience, I left feeling that allergy awareness and communication were severely lacking. He made us feel like family. I ordered the fajitas and while the portion was large I would say they're okay. The steak lacked flavor and seemed to be thin. However, you get a lot of food and it's fair to say it's a very filling good meal, but not amazing. Everyone in my group seemed to enjoy their food, but I think what set the restaurant apart is their customer service. Accommodating us to sit early, to our amazing waiter Bryce who is the best waiter I have ever had. When it came time to pay, Bryce was accommodating as we figured out how to divide up the bill. Horrible service. My girlfriend and I were seated around 9:30 PM and weren't acknowledged for nearly 30 minutes. Multiple tables that arrived after us were greeted, served drinks, and had their orders taken before anyone even came to our table.
