I've been to Ola many times and I'm just now getting around to writing a review. Honestly, I probably should've written one after my first visit because back then the food and drinks were off the chain! This most recent visit? The food was just... okay. I will say this: they have some of the best chips and salsa. The chips are crispy, warm, and taste super fresh. I'm a sucker for good chips and salsa. It's easily one of my favorite parts of going to a Mexican restaurant, and they definitely deliver there. Their cocktails continue to be consistently delicious. My absolute favorite is the cucumber jalapeño margarita, refreshing with just the right kick. They never miss on the drinks. As for the food, I've had their enchiladas and tacos before. This last time I ordered the blackened shrimp tacos. When I hear "blackened," I expect bold seasoning and flavor. That's not what I got. They were pretty basic and underwhelming for the price. Two tacos for $17, plus an additional $5 per shrimp taco? That felt excessive for what was served. Service was okay. Nothing special, nothing terrible. Now, the location? You can't beat it. Being upstairs at 2nd & PCH with the Alamitos Bay view is a whole vibe. It's a perfect setting for date night or drinks with friends. They don't validate parking, but the first 90 minutes are free, which helps. Overall: great drinks, amazing chips and salsa, beautiful location , but the food (at least this time) didn't quite match the price point.
When I walked in I was impressed by how nice everything looked! From the dim lighting to architecture and decorations, it was all cool to walk into. Food was exceptional, I got a steak and ceviche which were fantastic, and a spicy cocktail I forget the name of, but it was so good I could drink them all night. Our server was amazing as well, they have a superb management and ownership team that were so kind and accommodating to us. I just wish I could remember their name! Thanks again, we will definitely be back
This is the third time I am at this restaurant in the last three years. They have a very cool location where you can sit out and watch the boats at the marina. The other times I have been here the food has not been the greatest. However this time the food was very very good. Fresh and crisp ceviche and even better to par it with a topo and elote. 5 stars on both food location and service. They must have changed owners or something. I will definitely come back again and again.!!
When: Sunday 1pm Food: (1) Ribeye Fajitas - 9/10. Tasty and loaded with veggies. Comes with side of 3 tortillas and guacamole. (2) Agave Salmon - 7/10. Salmon and asparagus is well cooked. Everything else I didn't care for. "Baby heirloom tomato salsa" just tasted like regular generic salsa. Salsa and salmon isn't a good mix in my opinion. The cilantro lime rice was mushy and overcooked. Atmosphere: Great location, well decorated, but very loud! Service: our server was great!
This is not your typical Mexican restaurant that is authentic but more of a high end place where you're paying for the views and its locations. If you want something authentic you have to drive down five miles on Anaheim street to get the most authentic Mexican food. We came here on a Sunday and not very busy- this is a huge place and when it's not busy service is a tad slow. We ordered the tacos and it was decent- not as spicy as I like my authentic Tacos. The server was nice and we were seated by the windows and before the sun comes down the view is spectacular- this is what you pay for. Food is decent and the service could be better- but overall I give it a 3 and a half star.
My family and I have come to Ola several times over the past few years. We usually come for happy house since they have a great happy hour menu. They recently raised their happy hour prices but they still have great deals. Our favorites are the 3 tacos and a margarita for $17 (used to be $15) and the nachos. The food and drinks are tasty! The service is usually pretty quick and the food comes out promptly. We have come on different days and we are always able to get a table. We specifically like that the place is family friendly and the high chairs seem newer and very sturdy. Happy hour is every Monday thru Friday from 3-6 and all day on Tuesdays.
Ola could not miss! Ambiance - not a bad seat in the house from the nice bar and indoor/outdoor area looking at the boats and beautiful sunset. Service - the staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu items. Brought extra water and salsa and was super attentive. So how did it taste? 1. Ribeye Chimichurri Taco - medium well, moist and flavorful ribeye steak strips. Only issue was the chimichurri was lost as the heat lamps dried it out. 2. Lobster Taco - for an extra $8 the lobster taco was a mouthful. Definitely well spent $8. Though flavorful, slightly over done. 3. Pork Belly Tacos - definitely a miss even though recommended by the staff. Cali is known of the fusion scene and I've had plenty of pork belly tacos but this missed the mark and was very underwhelming. The marinade was great and full of flavor but by the time I received it the pork was "dry". Dry, cubed, marinated jerky is what it felt like. To make it work the peppers were kind of thrown in there with an equally dried cabbage. Best of luck to this establishment. I'll definitely be back.
Best Mexican food south of the border. Nice Ambiance overviewing the harbor. I have been going here for a couple of years now and this place does not seem to dissapoint! Great service and very good food. Same price as going to El Torito and Acapulco. This place has its advantage, ocean view with updated amenities. Bar and location. This a go to spot. Hidden gem on 2nd st. Long Beach CA! You won't be dissapointed.
Views, good margaritas and decent Mexican food... I'll take it lol. Been here many times over the years and usually get tacos. This time I tried the market fish. It was sea bass paired with rice, plantain chips, squash puree' and mango salsa. It was great! My friend tried the chicken mole dish and she loved it. The chicken was perfectly crisp and well seasoned and she loved how the mole was at the bottom so she could enjoy the spices on the chicken alone as well. We always have great service and typically no wait on a weekday evening. On weekends, we've been without a reservation and that wait wasn't long either.
I enjoyed my weekday dinner at Ola Mexican Kitchen this past week. With the summer heat, I opted to dine on their beautifully lit patio and grabbed a cocktail for starters. The Punta Negra Margarita was everything I didn't know I needed! Muddled blackberries are paired with the kick of fresh jalapeño, finished off with pineapple juice and a savory tajin rim. I could have easily had 3, but moderation is key! The Enchiladas con Pollo was well seasoned and portioned well. Their green sauce is a bit more thick and pasty in texture than I typically prefer, though tangy and savory nonetheless. Our server was helpful and prompt, allowing me to get home at a decent time for bed. I'll surely be back
We decided to grab lunch at 2nd and PCH after going to the Sunday Farmer's Market, and decided to finally check out Ola. Palapa next door offers the same food menu but has more drink options. Many opted for outdoor seating on the terrace due to the gorgeous views, but not wanting to wait we agreed to indoor seating. The interior of the restaurant is also very beautiful. The bathrooms were too dark for my tastes though. Our waitress was absolutely phenomenal, super friendly and anticipating all of our needs (water refills, leftover containers, etc.). Service overall by all staff was friendly. We were actually presently surprised with the taste of the food, thinking it might be more Americanized but they actually had very authentic and tasty totopos (tortilla chips). The tomato salsa that came with the chips was also very refreshing. We asked for hot sauce too and the house habanero salsa really packed a punch! We ordered carne asada nachos, pork belly chilaquiles (from the brunch menu), a breakfast burrito, poke, and steamed clams. The steamed clams came in a rich tomato broth and the breakfast burrito was massive. The poke was just okay and the chilaquiles a bit too soggy for me, and the carne asada nachos a bit dry. Nonetheless, presentation and portion sizes were respectable. The last comment is that food here is quite pricey but that reflects the likely high rent of a restaurant in 2nd and PCH. Ola still exceeded expectations and provided a more than pleasant meal. read more
Chill sunny and beachy vibes. Went for a quick drink to enjoy some of the so cal sunshine. Had a beer and they provided some chips and salsa. Appreciated being able to soak in the sun while sipping on a beer. Will def be back for happy hour. read more

Ola's is always a go to for lunch with a view. The outside patio is perfect looking over marina. Their food is really good, chips an salsa are plentiful and I love the Margaritas. Our server checked in pretty regularly and we had a nice meal. read more

We went and took y nephew and his new FIANCE as a congratulations for getting engaged! We had the best time! Fabulous service- they let me brig a cake! I was so excited I didn't hoto the food..BUT...gat the lobster quest Dillard! Stuffed with lobster and PHENOENAL! read more

The food is good, but the scenery is even better. All you need is to invite the right kind of people to have a fantastic dining experience. The serving staff was always attentive, and our drinks came quickly. We didn't have to wait long for our orders either. read more

Beautiful outdoor dining view! Came here for brunch on a Sunday morning. The server started us off with complimentary chips and salsa. I ordered a taco trio (chile rellano, pork belly, and fish taco). The tacos are a little bigger than a normal street taco. The 3 tacos were plenty for me. The flavors were solid. One down side is that the dishes don't come with rice and beans. If you want rice and beans you will need to order it separately. I found the prices here to be a little high, but considering the neighborhood/location I can understand the higher prices. The service here was great, the waitress we had was very attentive and provided top notch service. read more

The food is decent, not a truly authentic Mexican restaurant but more of a fusion-style cuisine. I ordered the enchiladas con ribeye, and it was okay. The views are great if you're dining on the patio, and the staff is friendly. Overall, it's overpriced, but you're paying more for the ambiance. read more

We came here to celebrate a birthday with a group of around 15 people, and thankfully they were able to accommodate us. The food was decent, though slightly on the pricier side, and the drinks were okay. While it's not a place I'd go out of my way for, I'd consider stopping by for appetizers if I'm nearby. read more
You can't beat the view! Came for an early dinner Friday night-got seated right away. Our server was really nice and attentive! Food is good. I got chicken enchiladas...and guacamole. **note** Everything is a La carte. The food is a tad pricey- $24 for chicken enchiladas-no rice and beans. I parked across the street and didn't have a problem finding a spot-and it's completely free. read more
Dined here during a sunny weekend. Blue skies with clouds and sun made for a glorious day at LBC. We sat on the patio next to the glass rail, which offers a stunning coastal view. It was breezy, so we asked if they could turn on the heat lamp to offset the chill. Unfortunately, even with the lamp on, it didn't help much as the wind carried the heat away from our table. Parking was free for the first hour, and we were fortunate that the parking machine was broken, so we left without paying. What we ordered: ACAPULCO CEVICHE (Fresh caught fish, tequila-citrus vinaigrette, jalapeño, pineapple, pico de gallo) - I loved the citrusy flavor of the ceviche. I wished the portions were bigger because it was gone after five scoops. STEAMED CLAMS (Chorizo, jalapeño, fennel, onions, cherry tomato, seafood broth, cilantro) - An interesting take with chorizo and seafood broth. It was steaming hot and delightful to have during the breeze. Funny story, I really wanted to drink the broth, so I asked for spoons for the group. The server returned with one, and we basically had to play roulette to see who got the spoon. THREE TACOS (Baja Fish and Carne Asada) - The battered fish tacos and the classic asada taco weren't bad. The tacos came seasoned with sauce, cilantro, and onions. I really appreciated that the tortillas were hand-pressed and not factory-made. LOBSTER AND SHRIMP ENCHILADAS (Cheese enchilada topped with a tomatillo cream sauce and sour cream) - Savory flavor of the shrimp and lobster rolled with cheese. Can't go wrong with this selection. I tried the 1905 BOHEMIA PILSNER, and I believe it is one of the most underrated Mexican lagers. I really enjoyed their spiced house chips and salsa so much that I asked for a second serving. Overall, it was a good outdoor experience with an amazing view. This location is special. However, I don't feel the urge to come here again unless it's for a notable occasion. read more

Dined there Saturday evening (party of 8) in town for Grand Prix. Horrible service. We saw our server 3 times the whole night. Received one round of drinks, the second round she forgot to bring us, and we had to get from the bar. Food was ok, ribeye fajitas were cold. Asked for manager at the end of the night to remove gratuity off my personal check, and nobody ever came. Left after waiting over 20 minutes. Called the next day, and spoke with manager Abraham to explain the situation, and that I wanted my check adjusted as I did not sign the receipt. He told me that is how their fajitas come. He couldn't help me, and let me know the GM Brian would call me and help with the issue on Tuesday afternoon. It's Thursday evening, and still no help or call. Clearly poor management that results in poor service! read more

Stopped by for a quick weekday lunch but was not impressed. The chef's special guacamole was good with citrus flavor due to the zest and pomegranate but nothing extraordinary. Plus they only gave one chip haha. They do offer you salsa and a basket of chips gratis but it would have been nice to have a few more of the blue corn tortilla chips to go with the $13 guacamole. The pollo mole was good but slightly dry with a kick. It comes with tortillas but I just ate as is. The pork belly tacos were good in flavor but the pork belly itself was dry and overcooked. The bus boy was prompt in clearing off dishes which was a plus. read more
Mexican food meets modern flair, meets the perfect hangout venue. What a pleasant surprise it was to visit Ola Mexican Kitchen last night for dinner! Ola is conveniently located inside the 2nd and PCH mall plaza in Long Beach. It was my first time at the restaurant and the mall strip, absolutely loved them both! Great views, great dining, great to hang out all day. Let's get to the restaurant. The place itself feels so modern and chic, with beautiful views (we requested for the patio). Vibes all around felt as if we were resort dining, and I could not complain. Their food was delicious! I may have eaten one too many tortilla chips (on the house), but still enjoyed my ribeye house salad. We shared their poke appetizer, and got a bite of my husband's burrito. Both SO good, with generous portions. One star knocked down because we noticed the service was pretty slow for a rather non busy evening. Still, it did not ruin our wonderful dinner or make me not want to return. Thanks for a great dinner experience, Ola! read more
Um... did I not order the right thing? Ok, so I ordered 2 shrimp tacos, with rice instead of slaw & a horchata. The shrimp in the shrimp tacos was overcooked and I couldn't even finish one taco because it was not good. The rice request added an uncharged of $2.. very nominal, yet the portion was super small, about 2 tablespoons of rice. The rice was really good which was disappointing because they served me an extremely small portion. As for the horchata lol - this is a me just being surprised that a Mexican restaurant doesn't serve horchata. This is very funny to me. The ambience was for sure on point. It was right next to the water and boats sitting in the harbor. I would probably give this place another chance because of how great the ambience is. Also, shame on me for not speaking up about my disappointments, I am sure they would have probably made it right! So moral of the story - speak up. read more
My girlfriend and I stopped in for lunch for something light. We shared a ceviche which came with two chips, so thank your lucky stars you get a basket of chips for the table. The salsa served with the chips is definitely from a jar and if it's not you have to do better please. Our ceviche was OK, it embodied a cóctel de camarón a little more in my opinion. It's served with a red sauce, shrimp and diced vegetables which is a very simple and easy to make ceviche so I was not impressed. Depending on the state in Mexico you get a different version of ceviche so this was underwhelming I wanted a little more character from this plate. They also don't have agua fresca but they will charge you for a virgin cocktail since the fresh watermelon juice is reserved for alcoholics. The views are incredible in here but it's like walking into a basement. When I think of my culture I don't get dark, moody, and goth....I feel joy because our art is incredibly vibrant. It's a dark vibe but at least you can see the marina after getting past that parking lot eye sore. read more

Ola Mexican Kitchen is a modern Mexican restaurant located in 2nd and PCH on the second floor. Came here with some friends on a Sunday around the time of opening. It was not busy at all and we were seated right away. We chose to be seated on the patio which has a gorgeous view of the marina. It's also covered, but open which is nice. I ordered a bowl of the Chicken Tortilla Soup. Others ordered either the two or three taco plate, and the poke. We also ordered Abuela's Rice and Beans to share. We were served complimentary chips and salsa. I did not try them so I cannot comment on whether they were good or not. The Chicken Tortilla Soup was solid. It was flavorful and had a good amount of chicken in it. The tortilla chips were mixed into the soup, so by the time it was served, they were all soggy. It also came with a taquito, but I did not eat it so I cannot comment on how it was. My partner got the three taco plate with a Chile Relleno taco, a Pork Belly taco, and Fish taco. He said all the tacos were solid. They were also filled pretty well. Our friend who ordered the poke enjoyed his food while our other friend ordered the two taco plate with a Grilled Fish taco and a Carne Asada taco. She enjoyed the Grilled Fish taco but mentioned that the Carne Asada was tough and was disappointed with it. Our order of Abuela's Rice and Beans never came, but luckily we were not charged for it. Overall, giving Ola Mexican Kitchen a 3.5/5. Food seems to be a mixed bag, though I did enjoy the Chicken Tortilla Soup. It is on the pricier side as well, and we were surprised that some of the plates do not come with any sides. Service was good, but slow at times for it not being too busy. Ambiance is good, especially on the patio. Not sure if I would recommend to others. read more

Came around 1145am for an early lunch to celebrate our 3rd year anniversary of our company's company. We parked on the roof area parking near the whole foods area and we walked over. It was 4 of us and we shared the chips, salsa, flautas, and ceviche. The chips have a seasoning that's really good...it adds a pop of flavor to regular chips and salsa I've had before. The crispy flautas were really good! They reminded me of baby thick burrito lol. It had shredded beef inside and a couple of sauces and some cheese top that came together nicely. The ceviche tasted fresh! It had a little more lime than I would have preferred but still good. For my entree I ordered the chicken tortilla soup and it came with a chicken taquito. I liked the taquito but I really didn't like the tortilla soup . I guess I was expecting more of a broth and it was more creamy, more like a pea or lentil stew which I couldn't vibe with I'm sorry! Other than that I enjoyed everything! The service was pretty good and the staff was nice enough to take our pic for our anniversary! read more

We came here around sunset time and the view was amazing! Service was good but kinda slow because it was packed at that time. We had the watermelon salad, which was super fresh and delicious to start. I ordered the lobster quesadilla as my meal and loved it. My husband ordered the crab enchiladas and he said it was okay but not amazing. For the ambiance and the view I would come back! I did try some drinks here another time I came and they were good. read more

Nice cute little place. Sat outside and they had a fire pit. Was also told they provide blankets if you get too cold so that's a plus ! I got the shrimp and lobster enchiladas. I would rate it a 6/10. The ahi tuna nachos was so good! My favorite item so far. I went with my coworkers and tried my mangers steak that had a side of mole sauce and it was pretty delicious! Waiter checked every 5-10 min to see if we are good. They provided complimentary tortilla chips and salsa. I ordered 3 tacos; pork belly, fish, and their monthly special. Pork belly this time was very delicious. It was my favorite. I came last year and wrote a review saying it was bland. I can say that this time it's not bland and so delicious. Fish taco tasted amazing as well. For their tacos, they use one tortilla instead of two, I would still love to see two instead of one. Three tacos are very filling. I would want to come back to eat. Saturday morning 11am took the 121 bus from DTLB to try them for the first time. Weather was cool, but sunny. Hostess was nice and our waiter, Albert, did a great job. We sat outside for the marina view. I had the mango margarita and the wife had some Sauvignon Blanc. We shared a bowl of tortilla soup. It was very tasty and plenty for two people. I had the Lobster Quesadilla. Outstanding! Lots of tender lobster meat. My wife enjoyed her watermelon/beet salad. Enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere and had a second round of drinks. We will definitely be back to try other menu items. Not too soon though. It's very expensive and needs to be for a special occasion. read more

Yes, they're micheladas are pretty good!
Are there different tortilla options for tacos?
All homemade tortillas + so good! A couple options are available.
Are there vegan options or things on the menu that can be made vegan?
Yes, they have veggie tacos
Are they now offering happy hour?
They do have happy hour now. 3-6pm Monday through Friday and all day on Tuesday's. It's in the bar areas only.
Are dogs allowed outside?
No they are not. Unfortunately we do not meet the requirements from the health department to allow pets on our patio.
Reading the menu here, it appears the main dishes listed under Plates don't come with rice and beans. Is that true? If so, the prices are really high.
That is true. Rice and beans are separate.
