After seeing the reviews and all of the folks on social media raving about this spot - we decided to go and grab some dinner. We spoke to a few in line as we were waiting and they were all raving about it as well. I was a little thrown off because practically everything was premade and in hot trays. It was almost like cafeteria style, there were a few items that came out of the back. The food was OK, for me there wasn't much flavor in it and for the price I was hoping it would have been a little more fresh. The staff was friendly, and they were very accommodating, it was just the food and maybe all of the social media influencers created such a buzz that my expectations were higher. I'm not sure we will be going back.

First time trying La Chancla after good words were heard from my friends. It is a very nice and cozy place when I arrived. With ample seating and bustling with people ordering. I ordered the 3 tacos with rice and beans. I got the La verde, shrimp, and chicharones tacos. The best taco for me was the shrimp taco because of the tangy/spicy sauce they have already on it. It gave the shrimp depth. I can't wait for the next time I am in Long Beach to go again.

Five stars for the flavor and quality of the meats and the handmade corn tortillas. The 3 taco platter definitely seems like the way to go here for the best experience. But the rest is a semi-cautionary tale: The carne asada fries were super basic and pretty underwhelming for the price, though the carne asada itself is absolutely delicious. My husband got a mole burrito and requested it wet, assuming it would be covered in mole or at least complementary-flavored sauce. It came slathered in their signature, super tangy green sauce which did not exactly go well with their rich and sweet mole. My husband was pretty put off by the flavor combination and just couldn't do it, and this man will eat anything. A heads up could have been nice. Mango agua with the chamoy/Tajin rim was fine. First few sips were bomb, but it kinda gets meh quickly. Smaller size would have definitely been the better call. --- You should still go try this establishment. Just do it for the tacos.

Amazing tacos! A Long Beach must. The tortas are also very very good. It's hard to make a choice. Reminded me of a Mexico City spot. If you've never been to Mexico City then this place will give you that feel.

Nice little spot, friendly employees and good food. I had the tacos gobernador since they didn't have the enchilada sauce for enchiladas, I was please. The pepino-lime juice was delicious!...Will be back to try other items on the menu.

This restaurant was so great. I really appreciate the hospitality from the staff, the beautiful and colorful decor, and the tasty food. I tried the chilaquiles w/ birria and my bf had the chicken enchiladas. The dishes are prepared with a green salsa, and were so delicious! The portion sizes are very generous for the price too. Omg I was so satisfied. We'll come again, thank you!

Here on vacation and found this place on yelp. Great price and good food. My son loves the Mexican Coca Cola. Proportions of food are filling for sure.

This place is listed today as having outdoor seating. Is it still available? If it is, is it covered or heated? How many people can sit there? / June 8, 2023

No outdoor heating There outdoor seating is just a few tables outside place which is in a shopping center -there's like 4/5 tables outside ,nothing fancy what so ever.

    Indoor and outdoor tables available.

Hi! Does anyone know if the beans and rice are vegan?

What the heck is the difference between a delivery fee and a service fee?

Exactly what they sound like. One is for delivery and part of it goes to the driver (not enough of it to even cover gas, so please tip your drivers) and the app keeps the rest. The other one is a service charge that goes 100% to the app. You should…

Do you sell tamales? If so, what kind?

I'm sorry I don't know if they do tamales But definitely wishing you and yours a very Happy…

    What is chanclazo?

Literally, it's being hit with a flip-flop (chancla). In food terms, it's a thick corn tortilla that's topped in myriad ways.

Is catering size/portions of the dishes available to order?

Hello! Yes, we do have catering options. Feel free to give us a call and ask for Ish to go over options.

Hello are there any vegan friendly options?

The two times I went I did see at least one vegetable dish. Wouldn't say it's their focus, but you can definitely have a meal there and stay vegan friendly. 👍🏽

I stopped by on a Friday afternoon and waited about 20 minutes for a table. The wait was well worth it because each dish offered an explosion of flavors. My favorite dish was the birria, with the salmon ceviche as a close second. The mole was great too, but I'd say the other two dishes were more memorable and something I'd return for. I can't recommend the birria enough, as the flavors were reminiscent of what I've had in Mexico, very authentic. The space is small and can feel a bit tight, but sometimes the best food comes from these types of "hole in the wall" places. Ultimately, I'd say give Lola's a try! The soup here lacks the tastebud awakening zip that Don Chato's has. The ono fish taco experience was my fault... I hate fried fish taco, so I had lofty expectations, but due to the fact that I do not prefer corn tortillas, guacamole or raw onions, led to much disappointment since It has all three. Totally my fault. The butternut enchilada was lacking in the expected savoriness... this is being polite. The potato taquito was okay... but I am not a taquito person, so if you are I would seriously encourage you to try it. The star of the table was the Mexican corn. It may not compete with Cornman in Lincoln Heights, but it was decent. I scraped off the onions and toppings on the ono tacos, put the fish on the flour tortillas that another person didn't want, and topped the fish with refried beans, street corn and a but if the chicken tortilla soup broth to make due. When you are driving more than 30 minutes for this experience, I think you would agree that it was less that a proper way to celebrate a birthday. Oh and if there isn't any street parking. It'll cost you about 9 bucks in the lot. I didn't use the restroom, so I cant review its cleanliness. Our waitress was flawless taking orders and delivering food The restaurant itself has a great layout and an outdoor courtyard complete with propane heaters and umbrellas - I loved that... but my favorite part was out front, no not the seating area in the former parking spaces, nope... it was the collapsed woman on the sidewalk, walking her dog with snot running out of her nose because she was huffing some aerosol can of whatever. This truly set the mood upon arrival. Two stars for being close to a lot of other food choices to visit afterward.

In addition to all those basic menu items they have some stellar creations. I opted for the carne asada plate - simple and not spicy. Hubby ordered the Carne en su Jugo- very spicy with tomatillo broth and serranos, cilantro, bacon and onions. Both of our entrees came with bean soup and tortillas. The chips/ salsa starter was addictive. Huge basket of fresh warm chips, and a salsa like no other! Chunks of veggies and just the right spice. It was hard to get those chunks on the chips but it was delicious. My carne asada was tasty, a large portion with grilled scallion and rice. I wish some of the "bean soup" had been pureed to be a bit thicker but the broth was good, with a variety of beans. Hubby's dish had an interesting flavor, very spicy. He wished the broth had some rice, though, to accompany it. We could come back weekly to try many more entrees. Their salads sound tasty, too. Service was great.

It was open seating when we arrived which majority of the tables was taken where all the television were. The main dining area had a television set up but main bar area was where the action was taking place. We got lucky as there was a table available along the wall with perfect view of the game. Of course it was rain delayed so more time to enjoy food and drinks. Also it was happy hour and taco Tuesday all at the same time. As the game was happening, one of the tequila sponsors was there offering deals. Shot and a jersey. Tony took care of us that night and he was amazing. Made sure that we got everything we needed. Very sweet as well. Happy hour menu offered a good amount of items for a great deal. As well as draft beer and cocktails. Regular menu is great as well which we've had before. Food, an order of the tostada both with shrimp and aguachili. Served with two small tostada and handful of crevice on top. Both were quite tasty and very well flavored in the juice. Also two of the street tacos with birria. They were quite small but did have a major punch of flavor to it. And well priced at 2.50 a piece. Of course the crinkle cut loaded fries with added carne asada. Seemed like it was a popular item as every table had it. It was good but a little skimpy with the topping. Lastly the chicken wings, lemon pepper flavor. Six piece tossed in the sauce. It was good but way too salty for my liking. We still enjoyed everything we had. As we got the shot with the jersey earlier, the person who was affiliated with the sponsor brand was walking around with more shot. I must say, it does hit the spot big time...lol... The crowd was lively with everyone all there for the same reason. The game and good company. First time for happy hour and it was nice. We had a great time and everyone working was the sweetest. And Tony was amazing. Took very good care of us.

Our waitress was absolutely phenomenal, super friendly and anticipating all of our needs (water refills, leftover containers, etc.). Service overall by all staff was friendly. We were actually presently surprised with the taste of the food, thinking it might be more Americanized but they actually had very authentic and tasty totopos (tortilla chips). The tomato salsa that came with the chips was also very refreshing. We asked for hot sauce too and the house habanero salsa really packed a punch! We ordered carne asada nachos, pork belly chilaquiles (from the brunch menu), a breakfast burrito, poke, and steamed clams. The steamed clams came in a rich tomato broth and the breakfast burrito was massive. The poke was just okay and the chilaquiles a bit too soggy for me, and the carne asada nachos a bit dry. Nonetheless, presentation and portion sizes were respectable. The last comment is that food here is quite pricey but that reflects the likely high rent of a restaurant in 2nd and PCH.
