Surprisingly, working with Sarah weekly for 3 weeks now, has already brought me back in touch with my body and my strength in ways that I have really missed. Sarah has a personal training background, and is getting her masters in physical and mental fitness (which I didn't even know about), and working with her is different then working with other trainers (as I have in the past). She is very clear on teaching me the skills and movements (weight lifting and strength training), and I am doing things that I have only seen in movies or on Youtube on Instagram. And it feels so good. The other really cool benefit of training with Sarah is that my mind feels clearer, I feel more resilience and its pretty fun. Practicing here was a refreshing change from the typical "commercial" studio. Gina taught a unique, wonderful flow targeting all the appropriate muscles for the poses. I'm a yoga teacher myself and tend to get caught up in the details of the teachings when I practice, however, here it was easier to just let go, stay mindful and sink into the practice as a student. With our initial conversation she helped me to realize the actions and thoughts that linked together to create tension and blocked energy in my body. From there she then provided me with one of the most unforgettable massages I've ever experienced. She started off with aromatherapy as I layed on the this pre-warmed cozy massage table. The tranquil music that played in the background placed me at ease in an instance. She then provided me with the most relaxing massage I've had, that I even slightly dosed off. After my session was complete I woke up feeling extremely relaxed and clear, which made me realized how tense and stressed my body was. I'm bubbling over with gratitude for Barbara and Alison at Woodstock Yoga Center…read more I went as a visitor from NYC for two 9:30am classes straight and miss these powerful-women-vibes already. First, Barbara-absolutely hilarious; but don't mess around because your laughter will be tempered with an incredibly attentive eye. Thank you Barbara for being so warm and inviting, but also for pushing my edge (and my sacrum into its right place!). I came home to the East Village (where everyone in Woodstock is apparently from) and immediately purchased her book rec Light on Yoga. Second, Alison-also incredibly hilarious and the most cheerful, energetic yoga instructor ever. As I awkwardly watched the rest of the class hopping themselves into handstands, she said to me, "Come here, my little friend," and then she proceeded to post me up in a doorway. Somehow, someway, this woman had me closer to a handstand than I have ever been-and without fear. She kept saying things like, "You can do it. I saw you over there. There's no reason you can't. This foot here. This foot there." And then I did it. Back in Manhattan, I spent an hour between two walls-pushing myself up, up, up. This is coming from someone terribly afraid of the upside down world. Much gratitude and I'll be back with bells on. Edge. Pushed.
