Most restaurants right outside of state parks provide barely edible food only fitting for starving hikers. Not Mashawy! I was pleasantly surprised to find a dining experience I would gladly repeat. The whole building smells enticing as you walk in. The staff was busy but attentive. We tried the Sambousa appetizer and I can't wait until I'm able to get my hands on more of those! We love to try new places and this is definitely worth a visit if you like to try something besides the standard BBQ restaurant. They have a great selection, they are willing to explain what is in the dishes and the seasonings used. We tried the Sambousa, beef shawarma, and the lamb chops. Everything was great! Started with the Sambousa appetizer. I believe it came with 4 and a spicy sauce. My wife and I split and had 2 each. I could easily have eaten 3 dozen. They were good. We ordered the mixed grill for 2, which came with hummus, flat bread, and a salad. I'm not a hummus guy, but we ate the entire bowl. Really good. The mixed grill included 2 lamb chops, both beef and chicken kofta, and a chicken and a lamb kabob. The lamb kabob was tough, but tasted good. Everything else was great. Service was great and the restaurant was spotless. The only small nits that I have are that the beer was over priced and they charged a surcharge for using a credit card. Other than that it was great. We live about 2 1/2 hours away. We went to Marianna to see the cavern and stayed for an early dinner. If we're ever in the area again, we will definitely stop in for some really good food. read more

How often do you see a solid five star review anywhere on Yelp? We were thrilled and a little bit apprehensive as we pulled into Mashawy on our way home to Tallahassee. The one thing we can tell you now is that they do not deserve five stars. They deserve six stars! Good lord that food was amazing. I've had good lamb chops before, but never anywhere near as tender and delicious as these. No knife needed here. And not just a couple of them. There were four great big melt in your mouth delicious chops on top of a delicious bed of rice, hummus, pita bread and a small fresh salad for topping. My wife had a lamb & beef gyro that was unlike any gyro we've ever seen. It was more like a big gyro tasting pressed sandwich that was absolutely delish. And the freshest fries ever that we equally delicious. So far everything was outstanding. We decided to press our luck and order desert, seeing the owner named it after his wife Nina. Oh lord!!! That was even better than everything else we had to eat. And that's saying a lot seeing we were totally stuffed at this point. Sooooooooo good. Needless to say, this restaurant is easily worth driving an hour and 15 min from Tallahassee for dinner. We seriously will not hesitate. Do NOT miss this place. We stumbled across this gem after visiting The Florida Caverns State Park. When I say that every single item we tried was absolutely delicious, I mean it! From our drinks of the Mashawy Tea which is aromatic and spicy, to the Mint and Lime Juice which is served fresh and over ice, and the home brewed beer was incredible. The food was truly spectacular and we ordered the gyro, the shawarma, lamb chops, and multiple appetizers. The owner was so kind and the customer service was outstanding! This place was amazing. An absolute unexpected gem in Marianna, very close to Florida Caverns State Park. The building is easy to miss...it looks like a house set off from the road...but finding it is definitely worth it. The food was interesting and authentic, prepared with lots of flavor. We started with the hummus, which was the best I have ever had. I had the Chicken Kabob Wrap (which has a great garlic sauce on it) and the home cut fries. The prices are VERY reasonable. $11 for the wrap combo which includes the fries and a drink. The "Nadya" dessert was a lovely end to the meal...interesting without being overly heavy or sweet. We have one more day in Marianna on this trip, so we plan to have lunch there again tomorrow. read more

We came here with another couple that loves the place and since we've only been to a few Mediterranean style restaurants we weren't sure just what to order so they talked us into Mixed Platter for two that came with; One shish kabob, one kafta kabob, one kafta chicken kabob, one chicken kabob and one Lamb Chop. I've been here 6 times now and have only eaten here once. Every time I've gone, the doors were open but there has been a different excuse each time of why they weren't really open. Huh?? Today I called first and the guy said that they were open so we jumped in my car and drove over (3 min away) walked in and absolutely no one came to greet or seat us. The one time we did actually eat there the food was ok but not 5 star worthy by any stretch which is why we wanted to try it again thinking we must have hit it on a bad day. What a gem to be found while camping at Florida Caverns State Park! We went in for a late lunch/early dinner before taking our cave tour and we're NOT disappointed. We started with hummus and baba ganoush with the thinnest pita bread you will ever have. For entrees two of us had Lamb Mandi, one had falafel w/rice and one Chicken Mandi. The flavors were amazing and the portions filling. Nadya and her son were truly welcome and hospitable and even brought us an unexpected treat on our way out of the restaurant. So if I was comparing this place to other Mediterranean places I've been to I'd probably give this place 4 Stars, but I'm giving it 5 for 2 reasons. 1. For this area this is probably the best place you're going to find, period. 2. The owner is the nicest guy in the world. This place is hard to find, especially in the dark, so make sure you don't pass it like I did. Look for the open sign in the window as that's all you'll see from the road. The decor is great with a wonderful ambiance. It was very calming, with nice music playing in the background and little noise it felt like I was in a spa. The waitress was very warm and welcoming. The food was kindof hit and miss but mostly hit. The lentil soup was just too thick and lacked some flavor, could have used more lemon I think. The mint lime juice was refreshing. The lamb chops were excellent, cooked to a perfect medium rare and had really good flavor. Although just a tiny dab on the side the hummus is what really shined to me. While the consistency wasn't as smooth as some of the hummus I've had at similar restaurants in the Detroit area the flavor was spot on and possibly better than I've had there. Just excellent I could have had that and nothing else and been happy, I just wish it came with more pita, preferably freshly made, I think theres might have been frozen. I made great conversation with the owner, who, to me, is why this place deserves 5 stars. He's just so friendly and welcoming. He brought me a dessert he said he invented and named after his wife. How sweet is that?!? A warning this place can get a little pricey if you're on a budget. I had allusions of not spending much but then had to try other things and ended up paying more than I had planned, but all in all worth it, if you're looking for some good food around these parts you won't regret coming here! read more
