Fantastic Middle Eastern food from a great family-run place. Gyro platter had flavorful slices of the traditional beef and lamb with nicely cooked basmati rice, creamy hummus with a pleasant sesame taste, creamy tzatziki sauce, and a small green salad with vinaigrette. Sambousas were crispy with a delicious filling and chutney dip. The baglava was sweet and nutty...just right to end the meal. We went back to try the lamb chops and steak...also delicious. The favorites so far have to be the moussaka (baked eggplant, potato, tomato, ground beef) and lamb kebobs (so much flavor)! Every plate we have tried has been well balanced...the nice green salad, savory hummus and pita, fluffy rice, and whatever wonderfully spiced main dish you choose. And all for a good price too! Well, when I first walked in, the restaurant was empty. I thought oh no! We spoke to the waitress and then the owner came out. Great start! He explained the different freshly brewed teas, juices and beer. Well, I have no idea why there were empty tables. This place is GREAT!! Incredible Mediterranean food. The restaurant was not very busy and we almost drove on by (I usually take that as a sign it is not good food) So glad we didn't! The moussaka that I got was outstanding and the chicken that my co-worker got was even better. I wish Tallahassee had Mediterranean food this good. Every time I am in the area, I guarantee I will stop in for lunch/dinner. The only thing I can say is I don't understand why they were not slammed that afternoon with customers. WoW! What a great meal! The eggplant dish Musakka ( prolly spelled wrong) was over the top greatness! My wife had the lamb shank and it was very good and I am not a fan of Lamb. Desserts were small but absolutely wonderful. Nadya, named after the owner's wife was mildly sweet with vanilla cream. The Baklava was unreal! Then they brought out a cinnamon ginger warm sweet beverage that was not a "Tea" and it paired perfectly with the baklava. The food was not good at all. I ordered beef shish kabobs and my mother ordered lamb chops. Both meats were near raw. It was disgusting. I returned my mom's meal for further cooking but the gentleman there explained they cook the meats at medium temperature. I don't agree. Both meals were barely passable. What a great find! We came to Florida Caverns State Park for camping and needed lunch close by. It's located right outside the park entrance and probably the best place in town. I ordered the chicken Mashawy Salad and it was amazing. My husband ordered the lamb kabob and said it was delicious. He also ordered the Turkish coffee which was very strong and sweet. My best friend and I have a tradition of asking the wait staff to bring what they would have for dinner. In this case our waiter was Sammy and his wife Nayda who are the owners and chefs. Today was Thanksgiving and we met some family halfway between our two locations and chose Mashawy as our spot. I'm so glad that we did because it was such an enjoyable experience! First off, the food is phenomenal! We started with a sampler plate of hummus, tabouli and these little fried pillows filled with savory beef and onions. We all loved them so much we ordered another appetizer just for those. A few of us ordered the lamb, which we all had a taste of and that was the most succulent meat I've ever had. All of us raved about how delicious their food was. Second, the service was unlike anything I've witnessed at ANY restaurant I've ever been to. The owners are amazing and extremely kind people who literally won't be happy unless they've made you happy. My aunt suffers from some health issues and has to watch what she eats so the item she ordered wasn't compatible with her dietary restrictions so the owner, (Sami) made sure he got her something she could enjoy. Now, I have witnessed managers/owners do what they can to make you happy but Sami and his wife Nadya really go above and beyond what you expect. They are just wonderful and I can't stress that enough! It is not often you find such a quality dining experience, so when you do it means so much more to you. My family and I will definitely be back and look forward to seeing our friends Sami and Nadya again. When we asked about the restaurant he said he has 5 main goals: food, service, environment, music, atmosphere. 5 stars for sure. We ordered sweet tea initially and it is great. With a little spice cinnamon or clove?? Maybe? For an appetizer we started with the hummus and it was delicious the platter for 2 was so great. and more than enough food for 2. I wish I lived nearby. I felt like I was enjoying home cooked moussaka and the cook hit a home run. It doesn't hide under bechamel sauce, all the ingredients sing together. Don't miss the stuffed grape leaves either, they are far from the dense little logs that normally pass for grape leaves. My friends had shawarma and loved it.
