We love our family vet, they see all 3 of our animals and this is the only vet our dog isn't scared of!! Front desk people are so lovely and always try to fit us in very efficiently, vet techs are very sweet, and Dr Hokanson is very knowledgeable and always explains things very clearly. They have great prices too! Our cat got dental surgery here recently and wasn't eating afterwards and I couldn't ask for a better vet to help us figure his problems out. read more

Already was an established patient, but when my bunny got really sick all of a sudden I called and said it was an emergency and I was afraid I was going to lose her, I was told they couldn't see her without an appointment. Inexcusable to me that they wouldn't make time for an emergency that was life-threatening to any animal. I know I would gladly give up my appointment to any experiencing an emergency with their beloved pet. It's hard to find exotic vets to begin with that's why I established the relationship in the first place. I had to take her to an emergency animal hospital much farther away. I ended up losing her 2 days later and will never go back to this place nor would I recommend it to anyone after being treated like this. read more

We had a great experience here this week. Our cat got in a fight on Saturday night, and had puncture wounds that festered. When we called on Monday morning, we were lucky in that they were able to squeeze us in. The wound areas were shaved and cleaned and an antibiotic shot was given. On Saturday my son took his bulldog in for a nail trim basic check up. My son & father said that the staff was friendly here. My son has never used this clinic before today My son took his dog back into the room with the vet tech for his checkup. The vet & vet tech started the exam. The vet stated that he had an ear infection & a mild skin rash. The vet said he would need some medications other than that he was a healthy bulldog vet technician tried cutting his nails in the room but he was giving some trouble So the vet technician said I'm going to take him to the back When the vet tech got back with his bulldog he was painting & breathing extremely heavy. My son said his bulldog did not seem happy & was breathing heavily My father asked if everything was ok & the vet tech stated that the bulldog gave us a scare there for a min we had to give him oxygen, but she did not elaborate on that All this was normal with my sons dog except for the heavy panting His bulldog was given a good bill of health They brought the bulldog home. My son said the vet tech said he was good that he was just worked up from having his nails trimmed. Now, we all know bulldogs breath heavy as they are a brachiocephalic breed & they can get overwhelmed & breath even heavier than normal under stress so this was something we knew already. My son finally makes it home at 12:50pm from the vet clinic & the dog is doing great goes potty outside & had some goodies for being such a good boy at the vet. Then my son and I left to run some errands down the road & the bulldog was home with my mom & dad doing great. At 2:30pm we get the worst call that anyone can ever receive. My mother called us frantically saying she was just talking to the dog & giving him another treat & she went to get the treat & she came back the dog was not breathing & his tongue was hanging out of his mouth purple!She said I just turned around to get him a treat & he was fine! I told my mother to put me on speaker I walked my mom & dad over the phone on how to preform animal CPR. I was a vet tech for year's I felt comfortable with telling them what to do exactly in this situation they preformed CPR on the bulldog for 30mins with no response My son & I rushed home I took over CPR once we got home for another 15mins. I was not getting any response it was already too late he had passed away. Our families baby was perfectly healthy before he went to this vet clinic & had nothing wrong with him before he went into this vet clinic. I asked my son to tell me what happened at the clinic & after he told me I told my son that it was odd that if they had to give his baby oxygen than why did they not tell him first off & 2nd why did they not keep him to monitor him & keep an eye on him to make sure he was ok. They should have done this since they know this breed is known for heavy breathing and prone to respiratory & other issues! They should have not let him go home until they knew. All the clinics I have worked at would have told us we are going to keep your baby to keep an eye on them until their breathing is under control. Also, if an animal is in too much distress for a nail trim or any other treatment we would tell the family that we can not do the treatment until they were in a better condition for their safety. We also would monitor that pet for at least 1 hour to make sure they didn't have any underlying problems that we missed during their examination. This was very disturbing that they did not do this. Also, what did the vet tech mean by he gave us a scare & had to give him oxygen?! They did not even give my son any explanation for this statement. This was careless & negligent behavior on this clinics part. My son lost his best friend & we lost a family member to what I believe was negligence on the Vet Clinics part. All over a routine checkup! I had to watch my son hold his dead baby screaming come back buddy I need you over & over. That was one of the hardest things I ever had to endure as a parent my son was extremely devastated & will never be the same again! I believe that this vet clinic killed my sons bulldog due to negligence & not making sure he was ok. We had to take my sons baby to an emergency vet & have a necropsy done & be cremated. This was so devastating &heartbreaking for the entire family. On a side note which the money doesn't matter as we would pay anything for our fur babies but we had a necropsy done to see what exactly happened to our baby and that cost $650 & we also are having him cremated which should not have to be done he should still be with us but the cremation cost us an additional $450 on top of the almost $400 that my son spent at this clinic for his routine checkup & nail trim. We lost our fur baby today to what I believe could have been prevented by the vet staff. So if you want to keep your fur baby alive DO NOT take your fur babies to this clinic as you may never see them again! read more

Last Friday I contacted this vet as I needed help with my pet turtle and they see exotics. I told them it was emergency and they made me an appointment for this coming Wednesday 5 days later even though I told them that was too far away and I needed to have it checked right away, it was a life or death situation. They did not offer me any other solution or recommend any other place to me and now, my turtle is dead. In the future I would suggest if you offer to see exotic animals you understand they need to be seen IMMEDIATELY, not when you feel like seeing them. I will never use this vet for anything at all. They could have saved my turtle and now I have to explain to my daughter why her turtle is gone. Thanks for nothing. read more

We took our 7 year old boxer for an examination as there was something irregular going on with one of his eyes. Dr. Hokanson and her staff were amazing; they were all extremely friendly and we could tell that they genuinely care about animals and they treated our dog with excellent care. She examined his eye and determined that the inflammation appeared to be an injury and noticed some dirt/debris and a small corneal laceration. She flushed the eye and prescribed some medication. We were recommended that we should see how the treatment goes for about 5 days and contact her if there are any issues. This was great - a Vet who didn't try to up-sell us or try to charge us for anything that we might not need! We've had an impossible time finding a Vet like this in the area... they usually always try to squeeze more money out of you, but not here. Also, we had our female dog spayed at a different Vet clinic and Dr. Dr. Hokanson removed the stitches free of charge. This is awesome service! read more

My husband brought our newly adopted cat to this clinic for their free 72 hour check-up. Along with the cat, he brought all of the information that was provided by CAPS for her medical history since coming into their care. There were only 2 things on this history, one was a flea pill (capstar) and the other "strongid t". The vet told my husband that there was no wormer given to her and since it was reported that she was received by CAPS covered in fleas, she wanted to give her a worming medication. After getting home from work, I googled "strongid t" to find out what it was and it is actually a wormer. If the vet didn't know this was a wormer? She deserves 1 star for not being a good vet. If she knew this was a wormer? She deserves 1 star for being a lying vet who cared more about making $20 off the visit. A good vet might get much more money over the life of the animal. I have been going to this vet for 25 years. This is an old school Katy vet, no frills, no fancy, just good basic pet care. I haven't lived anywhere near Katy in 15+ years, but I still take my dog here - it's worth the trip. Not only is this clinic an excellent value, but they are also nonjudgmental, easy going, and very good at what they do. Yes, the clinic is a little smelly. Yes, the staff is a little "old katy". And, yes, the interior is cheesy 70's. But all that stuff makes it so cool. Maybe I go here because it reminds me of being a kid, or maybe I go here because they're just awesome. Whatever, if you're easy going and looking for a great vet at a great price, give them a try. They're good people. And btw, they have the real dog wisperer there. They've been taking care of my dogs for almost 8 years. Vet techs that work inside are animal lovers, and they treat all the four legged patients with love and kindness. When I had my dog put down last year, they sent a card signed by everyone there. When I adopted my new dog they had a free 'new pet' checkup, and I got him on the flea meds etc. Their prices are very fair and reasonable, and they always send courtesy post cards to remind you when you need to come back in for immunizations etc. I have been very happy with the service and how my dogs and I are treated there, and I'll keep going back. read more

I recently started taking my dogs to this vet, and they are terrific with my issue-dog. He has anxiety problems and doesn't always respond well to certain strangers. But the ladies in the office took him right in hand, and weighed him and gave him shots without a single complaint from him. I was impressed. I have been going to mason road for 3 different dogs and over 35 years. After the new vet took over i started having issues, it was more expensive every time I went or useless test were run when i was out of town and my wife took in a dog.The latest and last time i went in they were behind on time as always my appointment was never on time. A very young man came up with a clip board and started going over what they wanted to do. My appointment was for her yearly 4 shots and heart wormed. He started telling me all the different things with a huge total at the bottom of the page. He even repeated one thing further down the sheet with a charge behind it. As i was questioning him about the things he has on his list he told me that i needed to go somewhere else. I have never been told that before in my life .I think this place is over priced and they try to upsell every time you go there ! I called a place 5 minutes from them to get the same shots and was told half the price and went there the next day. I would not recommend these folks to any one and if you do go at least check there prices. I was searching for a vet in Katy and after reading dozens of reviews for different vets in the area I chose this one since it's only 3 minutes from my house and also since there's such great reviews for it. Confidently I walked in and expected the best. My dog is getting to that age where he gets extremely thirsty and has to be let out to pee at least every hour. The first thing that happened once we were in a room was being handed an invoice for test that would result to almost $100. Before the doctor could really check him he was already saying we had to get his kidneys tested which is around $80. It bothered me that he saw us as dollar signs, he even complimented my mom and I on our "flashy" jewelry and immediately asked what we did for a living. He did not care for our dog he cared to make some extra bucks. We ended up buying a special food he said we could only buy there saying it would stop blacky from getting thirsty. It's been a month and our dog has not gotten better. He refuses to eat because the food does not appeal to him and he's lost a lot of weight due to starving himself from the bad tasting food. We spent $30 on some nasty food and it has not helped our situation. Unless your willing to spend some big money on something that won't even help I suggest not trusting this doctor. read more

Last year my dog was diagnostic with a tumor on her spleen, after taking her to the vet for vomiting. $1200 later, we put her on ID and she has been fine. She started vomiting again this week and we tryed to get some nausea medication to keep her comfortable, afterall she is 13 years old. So he wouldn't give us the medication without running another $200+ worth of test. I have been using Dr. Hoffpauir for almost 30 years and his has always gone out of his way to help with our dying animals. Now all he wants is money - so sad to see my dog suffer. But before I give him another dime I'll pay twice as much somewhere else. So sad in Katy!! read more
