My experience with Mass Ave Pub is pretty much consistent with many of the other reviews. Basic wooden chairs on a hard floor in a small, very casual environment. Menu is pretty traditional bar food and drinks are pretty standard, with a few seasonal offerings. Definitely not the place for an artisan cocktail, but fills the bill for a late-night bar crawl. read more

Today is 2/12/2018 Skip this bar! Look. I have been to all kinds of bars, but this bar is so fake it is out of some hipster movie. The karaoke is a sham and the kids singing karaoke is obvious they never karaoked about it until it was seen in some movie showing other kids singing it in a group. The service sucked. I'm sucked worse than a French Prostitute. Where was the waitress? I only saw here once or twice between hitting or jabbering with gay guys. The bartender was even worse. Does she actually like her job? I watched as several people came up to the bar and she completely ignored them to either run around the bar dancing, watching some people in the distance who must have been her friends or talking to her friends at the bar. She wouldn't even acknowledge them. And when they did something "rude" like interrupt her for a drink, she copped an attitude. So maybe I didn't have a problem with the kids singing karaoke, rather it was the service that made everything else shitty. Pggh! read more

Mass Ave Pub was once a dark, smoky, not-so-friendly place in my mind. That's all changed over the past few years. Mass Ave Pub is lively and opens it's doors to just about any event that wants to be there. The owner is friendly and wants to be a part of the community -- pub crawls, beer events, etc. They also have weekly trivia and other happenings through out the week. Truly, MAP has become a do-not-miss when it comes to finding a great craft brew -- both local and national. There is always something interesting and delicious on tap here. The food is standard pub food menu, but is always tasty and fresh. Keep on, keepin on Mass Ave Pub. We like it. read more

When a business reminds you of a den of the Uncle of your dreams, it's a very good thing. I always wanted an Uncle who smoked, had a jukebox, could cook a mean tenderloin, served up beer proper, TVs galore, and had a vested interest in the posterity of trivia. Alas... I don't have that Uncle. What I, and we, have is Mass Ave Pub. Amidst so many new businesses, the Cultural Trail, and Mass Ave getting a major face lift... there's still Mass Ave Pub. I have been meaning to get to this bar for, well, really, years. Now that I live up the street... it finally happened. A de facto after party of the Yelp's Meshmas at Mesh happened, and it was the perfect opportunity. And, I needed to eat. And I wanted bar food. Specifically, a tenderloin, and a tendie I hadn't tried. Thus, this Pub. Definitely a strong cadre of regulars here... which always makes me feel good. A mixed bag of tables and high tops, beers of all kinds, from macros to local to Belgians. Where there's smoke, there's a good chance I can't be a regular. About once a month or so, at most. I just can't do it that often. But that tenderloin has a grip on my gut... I'm thrilled to check out the trivia night on Wednesdays! read more

Love this pub. The employees are true gems. It's just a good down-home no-frills bar that treats its customers well. The food is decent, but I go more for the casual ambiance [basement/sports cave] and the drinks... which they happen to pour most excellently. The beer taps are always on rotation and they feature a lot of awesome local beer. Sports are always on tv and the staff are always helpful. A few times there have been some weird situations and they've handled them promptly [homeless trying to panhandle inside, drunk guys not leaving my friends and I alone, etc]. read more

Great lil bar with an excellent craft beer selection. I feel it is definitely overlooked too often by the Mass Ave. goers, and honestly, I'm glad. I was easily able to find a seat with my friend and the beer was just as cold as it would be anywhere else... We were looking for a low key not crazy place on Mass Ave. this place was it. It was comfortable in here. Most bars on Mass Ave seem to be a bit overpriced for my liking so this place was excellent. The food prices were around $5-$7 for sandwiches w a side. I had the tuna salad w onion rings and my husband had the buffalo wrap. I don't know if I was just starving but the food really hit the spot. The beer prices were reasonable as well. The atmosphere was nice, just like your everyday corner bar. There is a whole lotta irony in me giving a pub 4 stars. For one, I don't drink anything harder than green algae smoothies. For another, I'm a vegetarian and I generally stick to a healthy diet. So the deep-fried mozzarella stick kind of cuisine isn't really my thing. But my husband and I had a great time at the Mass Ave Pub Trivia Night (Wednesday nights starting at 8:30pm). My friends and I came here last night before going to see a play at TOTS. If there had been sawdust on the floor, it would have reminded me of the taverns we use to go to when I was a kid looking for grandpa (back in those days in Chicago, nobody thought twice about seeing a kid in a tavern)...smokey. I'm guessing one of the few places in the country that still allow smoking :-) My friends and I aren't smokers...but we were hungry and Mesh on Mass was crowded and then we got the "do you have a reservation" question, we decided to go somewhere else...rather than wait 30 minutes. I ordered the chicken quesadilla, one friend ordered the hot pretzels, and another friend had the Club Salad. We also had wine and beer. The food was decent and the service was good. Overall experience was A-OK, but I'm bumping them up to Yay! I'm a fan for the nostalgic experience...made me miss my Grandpa Sven! read more

I'm going to give mass ave 5 stars even though I was torn between 4 and 5. I thought the atmosphere was really cool... a neighborhood vibe but right on mass ave. Food was generic for sure. The flavor of the buffalo wrap was good but since it wasn't stabbed with a toothpick it was very difficult to eat. My wife loved her burger though! Overall, good place for a random dinner (prices are probably the lowest in mass ave). We will be back. read more

Amazing little pub!!! I am the type that likes a hole-in-the-wall kind-of place, and this is it for me. It is not a large pub...at all. That said, there are plenty of seats in the place, great (yummy & greasy) bar food, cold drinks, tvs, a nice jukebox, and great patrons. This place reminds me of Cheers...yup, you'll see the same folks in here when you go. I like that! The bartenders are great, and Amy (one of the servers) is my favorite. She's super! She always remembers our drinks and is very attentive. So, if you are looking to go clubbing, steer clear of Mass Ave Pub. If you want a lowkey (yet always ends up being a blast with the jukebox, patrons, games, and drinks) kinda place, this IS it. Oh...side note...the fellow who mentioned the jukebox debacle...not possible; at least not now. Patrons can pay extra to have their songs play next (by paying extra), but the bartenders cannot just skip through songs (at least, not to my knowledge...I've never seen it). read more

I have been here a few times as it is very close to my house and it has been hit or miss....but, more hit than miss. On my first visit, I got the breaded tenderloin and fries and was a bit disappointed with the breaded tenderloin. Another visit, I had the spinach salad and wings - LOVED both! The hot bacon dressing on the spinach salad really made the salad. Another visit, I order the breaded fish sandwich for carryout and it was great! Further, during that visit, I decided what my next order will be.....the taco salad! Someone was having it for lunch and it looked outstanding! I have also visited Mass Ave Pub for trivia night and Monday night football. They bring in a great crowd and it is such a nice environment for such events. This establishment also has a very small town feel to it, even though it is in a city. If you follow them on Facebook, they post daily lunch specials that always look like a great deal!! read more

This is a wonderful local hang out for me. I really feel at home here. The staff is great. There are about 13 or so beers on tap that are typically local and/or craft beer. None of that Budweiser BS (ever) where the draft lines are concerned. However, one can still get a beer from the giants in a bottle. In regard to the draft beer line up it packs a punch. When I am not sure what to order, Bell's Two Hearted is always there for me on draft. This is a place with a menu that doesn't overwhelm you and has just what you need at more than reasonable prices and never any skimping on the portions. The chicken fingers and fries are hands down the best deal in town and big enough to share with 2 or 3 people. This is a must when visiting Mass Ave. This has hands down the best craft beer representation on Mass Ave as well as the best pub food representation. Most importantly the pricing and presentation of all of it leaves me feeling like I got a real bang for my buck when I cash out and go home. This too is a place that has had the same ownership and has had success for many years and in keeping with the current regimen will for many years to come. read more

I finally made it into Mass Ave Pub for the Girl Scout Cookie/Beer pairing. I'm very happy I stopped in. The service and food were excellent. I was impressed that the owner stopped by personally to see how the food was and chat for a minute. It is nice to support a local business especially when the owner shows an interest in the customer's happiness. Enjoyed the laid back decor and friendly atmosphere. The beer selection was excellent. I ordered a cheeseburger and onion rings. Both were delicious. Food doesn't have to always be foodie to be spectacular. I love that every item was hot and fresh and the beer was cold. Used to live very close to this bar, when it was called the 745 pub. I still feel like this is the best local pub to go anytime. I went to Mass Ave Pub for the Yelp drinks and stayed for some awesome food. I was a tad hung over from the previous night and the grilled cheese and tomato soup special was just the ticket. The drinks were good and regular prices are reasonable. When we were there, it was mid day and pretty empty. It's a nice atmosphere and my group was only told once that we were being too loud and offensive. We're not there that often so don't worry about showing up and having to punch someone in the mouth for being rude. The bar is a fireman bar (fire dept across the street) and the staff is ridiculously nice and patient. I recommend at the very least for an awesome afternoon lunch. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this Pub. It's my favorite downtown hangout. They have trivia every Wednesday, and I usually go with a group of friends to hang out, play the game, and just have fun. I admit, it is sort of a 'den' -like bar. It's small, smoke filled, and can get loud if it's crowded. So if that's not your scene, then maybe find someplace else. But I've always loved the pub. Amy is always our waitress and we adore her. She remembers your name (and she always knows what drink I'm ordering) and is always on top of things with food and beverages. She's the epitome of waitresses; kind, caring, and quick. And Woody is always a lot of fun on Wednesday's when he's hosting the Trivia night. read more

Can't get more "bar food" than this! We went for lunch during the Women's World Cup match and the environment was great! Drinks we always full and waiter made sure to check on us during the duration of the game. Our table did an arrangement of food and everyone's looks great! I went here for the first time on Saturday night to meet up with some friends after a show. We were able to stand by the bar and get seats after a nice man offered his up as he was leaving. When the rest of our group arrived, we moved to some free tables. There was a server, who never came to our table. The bartender eventually came over and took my drink order and then never brought it. My boyfriend saw both the bartender and the server do shots and drinking, which fine, but if you can't do your job, then maybe you shouldn't be drinking while you are working. Not a fan of the smoking either, but it's a bar. Oh, the bartender also paused the jukebox in the middle of music we had played and someone else went up to ask why and he said he would turn it back on in awhile. This was one of the first bars I frequented when I first moved to Indianapolis. It hasn't changed a bit (except it's non-smoking now which is a huge plus). Greasy, fried, delicious pub food. Casual, laid-back vibe. Good drink/food prices. I'm a fan! Surprisingly, this place has one of the better microbrew offerings, and also interesting bottle varieties. While they don't have a large quantity of offerings, what they do have is very good, and also some rare options. Where else can you go and see elusive Upland sours available for purchase? They were $30/bottle, so no price gouging here. I think I will make this my local watering hole. read more

Just recently started going to the Mass Ave Pub for trivia on Wednesday nights. I had passed by the spot several times without thinking of heading in. It is a lot of fun for trivia! The staff is nice and accommodating. The prices on beer and food are reasonable. The food I've had was pretty good. They have about 10 craft beers on tap that rotate and several bottles and cans. I've enjoyed the times I have gone in there. On trivia night it can get very crowded and loud, so get there early. Sometimes it can seem a little understaffed with the amount of people present, but don't worry they keep the drinks flowing. read more

I use to frequent this place when it was the '745' and I worked at Scholar's. I finally got a chance to visit now with the new name and the building being structurally sound and all. To my surprise it was 'Trivia Night" (wednesday nights) it was fun. I knew the bartender, Quintin who is a cool and friendly guy, so it was refreshing to see some familiar faces even after being away from Indy for awhile. The drinks are strong and inexpensive for the area. I haven't had the food but it looked tasty. A bar searching for an identity. With a nearly perfect location for the many who live just south of Mass Ave, The Mass Ave Pub is still searching to find itself. Sometimes there is a DJ, but there is always food and drink specials and the service is extraordinarily friendly. Despite being in the middle of Mass Ave and having an awesome beer selection, this is not a bar that I typically frequent. I think that's because my first visit here came when you could still smoke in bars in the city... and boy did their clientele take advantage of that. It's been well over a year since they banned smoking and this place still smells like a nicotine-cured lung. The bar itself is small, but there are a good number of tables and high tops. Service is friendly too. We stopped in around 11 and split two beers and an order of soft pretzels with cheese dip. Total damage? Under 15 bucks. We went to the Mass Ave Pub last Sunday to see the Chargers game on TV. I had fun. It wasn't very crowded at all. The waitress and bartender were very attentive, but not overly pushy to get us moving out. That's probably because it wasn't too busy haha. The chicken fingers were AWESOME.
