Don't let the name fool you. It's not just some neighborhood liquor store. They have a full liquor license so you can order a glass of wine, a cold beer, or a cocktail (limited selection on all) and sit at one of the handful of tables. There is also a limited menu of sandwiches, pizzas, and sweets to cure the munchies. The owner is extremely friendly and the overall experience is very laid-back and low-key. As for the wine selection (bottles for purchase), remember to keep an open mind. You won't find Cupcake, Mirassou, Mondavi, Turning Leaf, Barefoot, or Estancia here. Most of the time I'll stop in on the weekends when I'm riding my bike around town with friends. The staff here is also great. I don't know why anyone would waist there time and money here. We came in at 6:30pm on Friday and was asked immediately if we had masks by the only one person working when we said no and she said take one from the box. The box had 2 on top that looked like someone had already worn them. My hand to heaven we put the mask on step 2 feet set down at the table and then removed mask. There was no welcome, no hello, no I'll be right there with you. QR code at the table brought up a menu of absolutely nothing we seen online. No salads or sandwiches just 12.00 5 inch pizzas we seen our table next to us eat. The food was nuts in a bag and chips and crackers in a box like at Starbucks. Nothing written on the chalkboard like we seen online. We waited about 10 min while the one lady working standing all lazy by the counter we got up and left and went to Goodfellas pizza. After paying for parking and wasting our time I want people to know this place won't be here long. If your just coming here to drink I'm sure they will accommodate that simple task. Not me... Tuesday - Free samples from the wine wall Wednesday - Rotating tarot card readings ($20 for reading and glass of wine), Chair massages ($10 for massage and a glass of wine) I have attended on a Monday to buy my 4 bottles of wine. The staff was so helpful. One on one consultation for as much time as you need. I left educated and excited about my purchase. I have attended on Wednesday nights numerous times. This is a frequent event that I take out of town guest to. We sip on our wine while we wait for our reading or massage, grab a small bite (cheese plate) and just have a ball. This evening is also a night when you are sure to strike up a conversation with your neighbor and meet some really awesome people as well. Maybe once a month, they also host Wine and Canvas, which is a really cool event. They do have outside seating, but only two, two-seater tables (I think). It is on a more quiet block of Mass Ave, but I like it that way. Such a fun place. It isn't just a wine shoppe, it is a gathering place. A place that you leave happy :) read more

I feel like this is one of Indy's best kept little secrets. The atmosphere is nice; it's a small quaint setting with about 7 tables. I've only been about 3 different times now but have never witnessed the place packed though I'm sure those nights do exist. I would love to come here to work or study like so many do in coffee shops. In my opinion it would be even better to work with wine. We could even come up with a slogan..Work & Wine?! Anyway I don't know why I haven't thought of this idea before; you'll probably find me working in the shop starting next week. I love this place! Jill, Lisa and the rest of the staff are very helpful. They have a small, well-priced wine selection tailored to everyday wines. Most of their wines are under $15. Their selection is unique with many wines that you won't find elsewhere. My favorite thing about this place is that you can purchase wines and enjoy them there (at shelf prices!!) along with one of their meat and cheese plates. This is a fantastic place for a cheap date. I love this place, and not just because it is walking distance from my home. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and always eager to help pick out wine, cheese and specialty beers. I asked him for some French wine from the Bordeaux or Rhone region and somehow he pointed to a bottle that says "Chianti" (Italy) and say "this is from France" , then point to another from Rioja and says "this is from France as well." I was not very impressed. I ended up having to look for a bottle by myself and getting a Rose, which tasted pretty good for the price range. I chose this place in the hopes of having "wine warm fuzzies" as soon as I walked in the door. Thankfully, my expectations were met. I ordered a glass of Reisling Shine and the Croque Mermaid. The wine -- delightful. The food -- very pleasing as well. The Croque Mermaid could be easily cut and shared with others, which was perfect for our group. The group I was with was one in which sharing each other's food was a must. They were more than willing to divvy up our food. We had a group of six and luckily, for this location, no more. There was limiting seating, so I would suggest going in small groups. Overall, we were impressed by their wine selection, food and atmosphere. I was very happy when a friend of mine suggested we stop in for a bottle and a snack. Walk in and you see bottles everywhere! Wine, beer, and even local liquor. Not a bad start. They serve a variety of finger foods (humus, cheese), sandwiches, individual pizzas. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon just catching up with old friends. Few things to note, the space is very small and fills up quick. When people are waiting for tables at nearby restaurants they tend to migrate to the Wine Shop which makes it very hard for those of us who actually want to visit enjoy ourselves. The noise level can get above average but hey, I contribute to that as well. There is someone who works there that isn't very friendly. I ran in on Christmas Eve as a favor to friend who had forgot to buy white wine. Lucky for me they were open - no one was in the place. A few labels were suggested but this person just didn't seem happy. It felt very "get wine and get out". When I check in on Yelp I was offered a 10% off coupon which I was promptly told it would not be honored because that wasn't her deal but the previous owners. The locally-owned spot is intimate, with tables which allow you to shop for your wine, have a glass in the meantime, and order one of their fantastic flatbreads. One of our favorite aspects of Mass Ave Wine is that it is baby-friendly! We bring our 10 month old in with us, order a bottle of wine for the table and enjoy the great natural light that comes through the large street-level windows. The owner is incredibly friendly and very knowledgeable. I'd recommend stopping in on a Tuesday to enjoy the wine-tasting, which can be paired with some of their fare.
