God bless Mass Ave Wine. I love a place I can walk into, name a mood and a price range and get an amazing bottle. Every. Time. I live a block from a pretty good liquor store, but I'll go the extra distance to Mass Ave Wine because I know my purchase will be great. Of the many, MANY bottles I have bought there, I've never had a single disappointment because I can always count on the amazing folks there to steer me in the right direction with just a little information. MAW has also made my shortlist (in company with places like the Chatterbox) of my favorite spots to enjoy a great beverage and catch up with friends. Grab a bottle, a table, and one of their delightful appetizers, and it's the perfect night out with... whomever. Not usually one to leave reviews but customer service here is awful. I walked out of my way to go buy wine here today to support a local business during this covid pandemic, and the brunette women serving me was SO unfriendly and rude , almost as if she was inconvenienced to be helping me. I went here for the first time yesterday. I really like the atmosphere of the shop and the selection of wines. I moved here from CA so I get homesick sometimes but I am not a wine snob by any means. Unfortunately, the service wasn't as friendly as I had wished. I even tried to engage the staff member and she was cold, but waved to many people out the window behind me. I just think this little shop is so cute, it's too bad the staff person wasn't friendlier. read more

Snotty attitude. I called to ask if they carried Sun King Oktoberfest beer and received a demeaning response. With a very snotty attitude she stated that Sun King was just down the road, so of course they do not carry it. I only live a block away from the Wine Shoppe, and was choosing to shop at their location, over Sun King (since they have crappy hours)....but now I will never set foot in the place. Which is a bummer, because I love unique beers and wine...but I've worked in customer service for 10+ years...no one deserves to be talked to like that. read more

One of my favorite places to get wine and a snack! Great atmosphere and the staff is very friendly, plus accommodating! I recently had a meat and cheese board, which I really enjoyed. You can pick all your own options on the meat and cheese board. There are lots of different options of wine as well and the prices are reasonable. I do wish there were more options for small plates. I still need to try some of the other food options, but I do really enjoy coming here. read more

Quaint little spot on a newly bustling side of Mass Ave. I don't know why I don't stop by this place more often. They always have a fun selection of wine and even a few ciders and beers. The locations itself is small, but comfy and inviting. Every Tuesday from 5:30-6:30 they offer free wine tastings. So one day a friend and I decided to check it out. We sample 3 wines that were dynamic. Mmmm boy! We throughly enjoyed ourselves sampling and chatting. I already want to go back for more. On Wednesdays you can get a psychic reading and 10% off a bottle of wine. Be sure to sign up for their weekly e-mail list so that you can keep up with all the fun events and new selections. I definitely plan to stop by more often especially on Tuesdays! Plus, they are right next door to The Best Chocolate in Town. Now that's a win-win! read more

Just enjoyed a wonderful evening at one of Mass Ave Wine shop's monthly dinner and wine pairings. What a great deal for a four course meal, delicious wine and great company. Now under new management the place has a new, refreshing atmosphere. Management was super friendly and accommodating. Her food is delicious as is her elaborate wine descriptions. I will definitely be attending one of the free weekly wine tastings or other events going on here. Also a note when you stroll in there on a Saturday afternoon: get the bottle instead of two glasses of wine, it's cheaper. Ching Ching! read more

Met up with a friend here after hearing good things and seeing the nod from Yelp on the Wining and Dining email one week. On entering the place seems cozy enough and all it needs is someone working there who is welcoming. Didn't catch the name of the lady behind the counter but her attitude smells! Suggested a wine for us to try at 8.99 a bottle or $6 a glass? Well NO brainer right? Bring on the bottle...oh- no cold bottles available except this one that's open. Well...surely you're not going to charge us 12 bucks for 2 glasses of wine out of an $8.99 bottle of wine because YOU don't have any cold bottles on hand? My mother and I attended a wine tasting event here the other day, and it was absolutely phenomenal! For $10, we had access to tasting up to 50 different wines. They also had a wonderful spread of snacks which were included for the tasting - skewers of cheese, meat, roasted peppers, fresh goat cheese, crackers, roll-up sandwiches, and cream puffs. We ended up discovering a fantastic red wine we otherwise may not have sampled - the Ryan Patrick Rock Island Red. We would definitely come back to this wonderful shop! read more

I have had two experiences here, and they were miles apart, so I'm not sure how I feel. Experience #1-Walked in to ask about the Manic Monday deal, thinking that it was a free bottle of wine. Honest mistake, it was a buy 3, get 1 free. I am not normally in a position to buy three bottles of wine at once, so I thanked the lady (who I believe was one of the owners) and I walked out. I felt look down on, I felt like the store did not want me there, and there was so much snoot in the air I could barely see. I also got this feeling at the Holiday Yelp Bazaar wine tasting booth, where the vibe was put out that we were a bunch of freeloaders who needed to move along to make room for the REAL enthusiasts who were ready to buy. (If I'm not mistaken, it was the same owner-type-lady who was running the booth) Experience #2: Cut to January. I've got a $50 gift certificate from Christmas in my pocket, and I'm looking to start a respectable wine collection and snag the delicious malbec I tasted at the Yelp Bazaar. I walk in, and meet a lovely young woman who I've not met before who couldn't have been more nice and helpful, even before she knew I was going to spend money. My wife and I looked around a little on our own, then asked for her help. We told her what we wanted, and what we had to spend, and she spent about a half hour with us agonizing over the perfect bottles (we walked out with 5 excellent choices for less than $60. Thank you Manic Monday.) This experience has won me over, temporarily. If they can make every experience in the store like this, I will come back more often, and hang out a lot longer. The wines are great, the prices are excellent, but the attitude can be a turn off, especially to the budget-conscious or infrequent drinker. So like most good wines, I'm feeling lukewarm. read more

Nice little wine store and bistro. We were a group ten that called and made a reservation. We ordered our appetizers ahead. It was a good thing because this little place got busy quickly so food prep and orders were slow. The staff is a two person show with 2 toaster overs and a few panini presses. They serve simple fare like cheese plates, charcuterie, made to order thin crust pizzas and paninis. The goat cheese torte was great! The owners/staff were friendly, had good wine knowledge but were very busy. We ordered a few bottles of wine and port flights, our favorite. Since our hostess called ahead, the owner made homemade lemon zucchini cupcakes with lemon cream cheese frosting for our friend celebrating a birthday. The table next to us drank wine and played cards for hours so if you're in a hurry this is not the place for you. If you want to relax, drink a bottle of wine, enjoy a cheese plate and have good conversation, this is your place! read more

Really, is there anything more disappointing than going to a BIG liquor store, sifting through hundreds or thousands of bottles of wine, finding one that sounds interesting (or has a cool label), getting said bottle of wine home, uncorking it.........and having it taste like prune juice or something else unmentionable? Well, I have never had to worry about any wine purchase at MAWS. Every wine carried in the store (most bottles $15 or under) has been sampled and certified by the extremely knowledgeable owner. Wouldn't you rather support local business rather than a corporate chain? And, wouldn't you rather go to a smaller, classier, more intimate shop with local art adorning the walls and a cold case filled with enticing meats and cheeses? Plus, maybe you'd like to sit and enjoy a glass of vino and sample a gourmet meat & cheese plate or perhaps a baguette sandwich filled with local or imported meats & cheeses? Yes. Yes you would. Entertaining hint: A bottle of red and a goat cheese/sun-dried tomato/pesto torte and some good crackers or fresh artisan bread will thrill you and your guests. read more

The location is outstanding. The wine/beer selection is unique and fun but the woman with the curly hair (think she is the owner) is surly. I don't demand a lot of attention nor do I expect to be doted on but 45 mins for a toasted salami sandwich that is so hard I could break a tooth is ridiculous. I asked if they had wine flights and she acted offended that I would even suggest such an idea. Uhm. Ok.. Sorry, I thought we were in a wine shoppe and a flight is a great way to select a bottle for home. I asked if I could have water with my sandwich. Bottle, tap, whatever I'm dropping $30 on 3 bottles of beer but needed water to rinse down the brick. Her reply, "No." Serious, deadpan. No. We don't have water. Ok. While I've ventured in a second time and hate to admit discovered one of my favorite beers, Sam Smith Organic Strawberry. Cupcakes are also fun treat. Overall, I cringe giving my money here.
