Audrey brought me a pen and sticky notes (because who would be prepared for work when meeting your husband on the Monon for in Travel all Leisure's #1 city to live in... A glass of rosé along the monon on a warm summer night is pretty close to heaven. Wine and rind is a cute, little wine and small bites restaurant along the monon. The inside is has a handful of tables but the outside patio is the main attraction. It's a gravel/rock space with umbrellas and in the winter they have the igloos set up. Picture it ... Carmel, 2026: It's February, and the high is an unseasonably warm 69 degrees. The sun is shining, and you take a seat in a sunbeam on the covered outdoor patio of a local restaurant. You have a glass (OK, two glasses) of a nice Barbera d'Asti, and savor a couple of nibbly things. Everything is sparkly and right in the world on this beautiful Wednesday afternoon. All this and more can be yours when you visit Wine & Rind. At least, all that and more was mine when I visited. This is my ideal restaurant: wine focused, with a succinct menu of beautifully presented and thoughtfully created food. Plus, it's located right off the Monon Trail in Midtown Carmel, so it's a prime space for people-watching. This little restaurant is a great place to get a charcuterie platter, but I was feeling like bruschetta when I visited, so I ordered the Bruschetta Sampler, which is plenty for two people. It comes out like artwork on a wooden platter: five beautiful bruschetta toasts consisting of traditional tomato; fig and bleu cheese; capocollo and a herbed ricotta; blueberry and lemon ricotta with sugar sprinkled on top; and strawberry and cannoli cream with balsamic. The last one (strawberry and balsamic with cannoli cream) was surprising and might have been my favorite, because it tasted like cheesecake. I love being surprised! I also ordered the caprese salad, which was a wonderfully tasty platter of tomato, mozzarella, basil, pesto, olive oil, balsamic glaze and Maldon salt. It was so fresh and light. Another surprise: It was sprinkled with sprouts! I would have never thought to add that to a caprese, but it 100% worked. The service here is top-notch. The server was super nice and attentive, but also disappeared and only reappeared when necessary. Wine & Rind is a Carmel gem! I know I'll be back soon to try more of the menu, and drink more of the wine. read more

This was a FABULOUS experience!!! We were seated right away and our server was so kind and attentive. She shared many facts about the different items on our board. We sat inside and it was cozy and quiet. The food was incredible!! We got the Spanish board and fries and demolished it between two people as dinner. I had been really excited to try Wine and Rind, especially since I love charcuterie, but unfortunately, I was incredibly disappointed by the entire experience and will not be returning. This visit was meant to celebrate a friend's birthday, and the day had been planned around her favorite things. The only positive I can say is that they did have a decent bottle of wine that we enjoyed. The real issue came when I went to order the charcuterie board and asked if it could be made without any meat due to a strong allergic reaction I have to pork products. I was rudely told that there were no substitutions, and when I asked if I could either a) pay extra to replace the meat with cheese, b) simply have the meat left off, or c) have the meat placed on a separate plate so it wouldn't touch the other food items, I was met with a firm "No. No substitutions." I was then told I could order a sandwich instead, which was not what we came for--we specifically came for a board to nibble on before our next activity, and never imagined that removing an ingredient would be such an issue. Since the meat was on the board, we couldn't eat all the food as some had been touched by the pork products. This made the whole eating process stressful, as we had to constantly monitor the board to ensure which food didn't come into contact with the meat. From the display case, it looked like the boards were made in-house, but based on the refusal to accommodate an allergy, I can only assume they are pre-made. I was highly disappointed in the way this was handled, especially considering there are no vegetarian or kosher (board) options for those with allergies or dietary preferences. The wine list was fantastic and the owner provided great recommendations given our tastes and what we were looking to spend. They have a limited menu sold by the glass and a nice variety from various regions sold by the bottle. My only knock is the prices. We got a bottle of wine to share and it was $50 and when we looked it up online, you could get the bottle at any local grocer for right around $17. I get having to mark prices up but that was a little steep. Had some snacks and drinks here New Years Eve in one of the igloos. The "Across the Pond" had a nice mix of meats and cheeses including "Red Dragon" with mustard seeds. A new charcuterie and wine place that opened on the heart of midtown Carmel. It has tables inside as well as a large patio that looks over the monon. When you enter you have paper menus for both food and alcoholic drinks. You order and pay at the counter and they will bring your food to your table with a table marker. They have a variety of small bites and charcuterie boards that you can order and share with a group. They have plenty of sizes from small-event size. They ask for 48 hours notice on anything above large (large feds 4-6). I can already picture myself ordering a board for pickup after work to bring somewhere during the holidays! Tuesday through Friday 11am-3pm they do lunch boards which is what I tried. With 7 lunch options to choose from I think everyone can find something on the list they're looking for. The salami & asiago lunch board came with salami, bread, mustard, pickles and asiago cheese. It was plenty to fill my belly and send me on my way back to work.
