I use Yelp regularly and In Jan 2020 I needed service to my furnace. I saw the great reviews for Viking Mechanical so I had called Lars the owner and set up a non-emergency appointment for them to come to my home and look at the noise from my furnace blower. Two men, not Lars came looked at it and started to fix it. At no time did they give me an estimate of the cost of repair. I was not sure what it would cost but was figuring it would between 200-400 or so. As I watched them fix it they told me that it was the motor so they replaced the motor but the same noise continued which indicated the motor was not the cause of the noise and did not need to be replaced. They then diagnosed it was the blower fan which it was and the cause was the metal had separated a new blower fan was installed and the noise is gone. Once completed they told me the fee is $1023.00 which was due and paid prior to them leaving with no receipt or explanation of the charges. They told me I would get a receipt via email. I never received the receipt and had to contact Lars. After receiving the emailed receipt it had $413.00 for replacement of the blower wheel and $511.00 for replacement of the motor (which did not need to be replaced). It also had a $99.00 service call but no Massachusetts tax or anything else. I obtained an Attorney and it was determined that the cost of the parts replacement is exorbitant and not within industry standards. In order to replace the motor, the blower wheel has to be removed or visa versa. I know this for a fact because I watched them repair the problem. There is an issue of double billing. I contacted Lars via email and was looking for an explanation of charges but the response I received from Lars was "Had a baby yesterday complaint department closed for a while". The attorney sent Lars a registered letter that Lars refused to accept he would not sign for it. but shortly after I then receive an email from Lars offering me some of my money back which he sent me a check. Honesty and trust are two qualities I look for when I hire a contractor I feel they lack here and thankfully my issue was not that expensive. I got my money back solely due to the fact I had to get an attorney involved. SAD. read more

Failing heat pump not keeping up with temperature. I knew I wanted to change to reliable gas furnace. Called a plumber friend who recommended Lars at Biking mechanical. Got a quote and they were ready to go if the furnace, A/C unit was in stock. They had a downed customer so asked permission to delay by a day. They show up with 5 trucks/vans with all the trades represented with 6 tradesmen, removed the failing heat pump and started the install. By 3pm the new system was up and running and they COMPLETELY cleaned removing all the packaging and old system. The next day the circuit breaker popped so Dave the electrician replace the breaker. While the system was starting up, I asked about the wiring for the doorbells. This is a completely renovated house With doorbell wires outside but could not find their destination. Dave with his trusty meters foung the location that the chimes would, run out the lines and then was off!! Having a good recommendation, you hope you get quality work. I learned of Lars from a general contractor. Meeting and dealing with Lars is a breath of fresh air. He is professional, positive and attentive to your concerns. I needed a new air handler and and central air unit. Lars gave me 3 choices and explained the differences between them. Absolutely no sales pressure! On the date of installation in spring his crew arrived and introduced themselves. They got right to work removing the old system and did a remarkable job installing the new system. They brought new pressure treated lumber to but under the air handler in the basement to to keep it from coming in contact with the cement floor! It is a thing of beauty. VERY pleased with Viking Mechanical. Recommended to me by my contractor as he regularly uses Viking for electric and HVAC projects. I called Viking because rats in our outdoor shed had chewed the wires that run the heating unit to our pool. My pool company originally had me contact the company they use: guy came out, said $500 to replace wires . . . and then didn't contact me again for a week. Happens too often. I don't chase people to do the jobs they agreed to do. So I called Viking, the owner Lars came out to assess the next day, and then the very next day installed new wires, for $150 less than the first company cited. Viking always comes through. I've been using Lars' services for 14 years and he is our go to HVAC team. Lars goes the extra mile to locate hard to find parts on very old systems. Our AC motor broke during a heat wave. Within a week the special motor was ordered and our AC was back. The installation of the new motor was tough as the old motor would not separate from the fan. Ryan was so dedicated and spent extra time to get the old motor released, never giving up. The team is very prompt, friendly and professional. Super happy with Lars and team, they are the best. Another great experience with the Viking Mechanical team. I called to have my annual maintenance completed for my AC unit. Emily answered all my questions and gave me an appointment that fit my schedule. 30 minutes before my scheduled appointment I received a text letting me know Ray was on his way. Ray checked the AC, replaced the systems air filter and washed the outside coils. Before leaving he also made sure everything was working perfectly and that I was satisfied. We had our 59 year old boiler replaced with a significantly more energy efficient one and our old hot water heater for a stainless steel unit. Viking arrived on the same day I called them. I originally was asking them for a second opinion on a quote from a different company. They were able to find the problem right away with my heating system, ordered the parts and returned the next day to fix everything. Even running out to get a few more parts and completing the repair the same day. I haven't received a bill from them yet, but i guarantee it is cheaper than the quote from the first company. The owner, Lars, is incredibly knowledgeable, gave us a respectable quote for an emergency boiler and water heater replacement, and got the job done in record time. I am glad that I found Viking Mechanical to service my heat pump. After being told by 2 other techs that the slow leak is from the line set and they recommended to replace them. I seeked out to VM and Lars came out today and he quickly within 5 minutes and already found the leak in one of the schrader valve. He then recommended to not go any further into pressure testing until next season. I found Lars to be a very honest tech with no BS. I highly recommend him. read more
