My massage on Friday 1/30/26 with Tarlana.F was not okay. She has good strength but started on me late and finished 10 minutes early. When the session was over I tipped her $30. She counted it out in front of me and said she usually gets more than that. I told she didn't even get my arms or hands and finished early. It is very unprofessional of someone to complain to a customer about the amount of the tip. Which I thought was appropriate for the service. I left feeling attacked when I should felt relaxed. I will not be using her again and possibly that location. read more

Worse experience ever. I have been to one back home in Tucson,Az so when I moved to Maryland I thought I would go here. Front staff was nice. But massage was terrible I left there feeling the same way I went in. And to make things worse I now have contact dermatitis. I started to have an itch to my left hand and it progressively became worse. A rash developed on both my arms. I now have added expense of an urgent care visit with medications. I also have to use a special body wash and lotion. Never again will I go here or any Massage Envy. read more

I scheduled a facial at the Columbia location. The clinician was wonderful and quite pleasant, however she was bound to company practices and policies which made the experience very limiting. The clinician wore plastic gloves-something I haven't seen done ever. Lotions and serums couldn't properly be put on because they were stuck between the skin and the gloves. It was also distracting to a relaxing experience to hear the gloves coming off and being replaced. That's a very non-sustainable solution and created a great deal of trash. When I left, I realized there isn't a sink in the room. Only one of the products used in the service had a smell that was favorable. Everything else didn't have the standard feeling doing cleansing, serums, moisturizing. An at home facial with products from a local pharmacy would be more effective. read more

I called yesterday to inquire about membership prices. I hadn't signed anything yet, but I had them start the membership account. I received the contract in my email this morning. I found out a family member has passed, and I need to go out of town. I called at 1:30 pm today to let them know I won't be signing anything, and I need them to cancel my account from yesterday. I spoke to Ishanna, and she said that I would need to speak to Christal, who is the only one who could cancel the account. She said Christal was out do to death in her family. I asked when she would be in. She said she wasn't sure. I asked Ishanna to call Christal and let her know I won't be joining and to call me ASAP!!! I was reading some of the reviews, and it's not good. I hope I don't have to go through any of the craziness I have read about this place. Maybe this is a blessing, I didn't sign the contract yet! DO NOT SIGN UP FOR A MEMBERSHIP!!!!! I would give this place ZERO stars if I could. I've been a member for about 8 years now and have mostly been pleased until the last year or so. I was even paying for my membership while the world was locked down because I was still getting paid and I knew I would want to get back to regular massages once things calmed down. Within the last 18 months or so, I have seen service SIGNIFICANTLY go downhill. Appointments are nearly impossible to come by unless you book more than a month out. Any good masseuse that I've come across has left shortly thereafter. They've also basically stopped allowing you to book massages longer than an hour (which is really only 50 minutes) because they will only allow their masseuses to have a few 90 minute slots a week and will not allow members to book back to back sessions to get a 2 hour massage. The worst thing about this place is that once you've realized that it's not worth it, they make it IMPOSSIBLE to cancel. I've been trying for nearly 7 weeks now. I went into the location on 9/15/23 to cancel and was told that I can't cancel in person and that I needed to call the location, select option 4 and speak to the Accounts team. Since it was late on a Friday, I waited until Monday to call. I called several times between that Monday and Tuesday of the following week and even left a message. No one ever answered the line or called me back. Fast forward 9/26/23 and I'm fed up. I call the location and select the option to book a new appointment. A young lady answers the line and I explain that I want to cancel. She tries to talk me out of cancelling I get frustrated and finally tell her to stop and that I just want to cancel. She asks to put me on a brief hold and proceeds to hang up on me. I called back and when she answers I tell her she hung up on me and I still want to cancel my membership. She says she has put in the request and I'll get an email from the Accounts team in 7-10 days. Over 2 weeks pass (it's not 10/13/23) and I have not received the email and, of course, I've been charged again for my membership. I call and ask to speak to a manager. I'm informed that the managers aren't usually in the locations. I explain my desire to cancel and what happened the last time I called and when I went in. She apologizes and says she's putting in the request and also putting a note in my file that she put in the request to cancel. I should have an email in 7-10 days. Skip ahead to 10/24/23 and I still don't have a cancellation so I call again. I spend close to an hour on the phone with the girl at the desk trying to get a hold of a manager and no manager responding. She put in another request for cancellation. After we hung up, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. On 10/25/23 the complaint was forwarded to ME for response. It's now 11/1/23. They have not responded to BBB. They have not contacted me regarding cancelling. I have AGAIN been charged for my membership. I have email them and contacted corporate in 2 different ways today. I spoke to my credit card company who said once today's transaction clears, I can call back to block ME from charging me ever again and I can dispute the October and November charges. Well, you ARE right about that and I did enjoy a quarterly stress relieving massage prior to seven years ago but... I've come here so religiously because I was injured in car accidents, have back & neck injuries and have chronic pain... all the result of said accidents. Aside from coming here, I have incorporated added therapies to keep me somewhat normal. I promised myself that regardless of my diagnosed conditions, I'd never be the face of pain. This place has literally been my saving grace to allow me to appear normal. So, I was involved in yet another car accident. I know my history, I know my body. I of course made other appointments, but coming here was necessary. So I came and had a 2hr with Nicole. I was forthright as to the reasoning for my midday, midweek visit and if you could see their faces.... all of them.... genuine concern. Here I am in pain and I feel bad that they feel bad for me. This is a good group. I've seen people come and go but even when that occurs the one thing that remains consistent is that they CARE. This isn't just a business but a family of people who truly care about your health and well being. You are greeted by name and with smiles and none of it is fake. Whether I'm in pain or not, I look forward to coming here. The positive energy they omit naturally, you can't purchase that and I can't live without it. So from me to you, I'm maybe your longest consistent client, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. It is often a new student who has just graduated from school or limited experience. If you can get an appointment, indeed, if you find one. The service is iffy based on if the person is an experienced therapist. I've tried for so long to give it a chance; I simply can't waste my time anymore. I have a monthly membership to Massage Envy. I usually call to schedule my appointments, but I used the app to schedule a massage on 10/21/23. Even though I was already charged my monthly membership fee, my card was charged again for the massage. I noticed this pending on my credit card and called right away to have it refunded. No manager was available to speak with me but I was told by the front office that they'd pass on the message. I've called at least six times now and still haven't heard back from anyone. I've been a member for many years and have been very happy until now. The limited availability of appointments isn't working for me and I chose to cancel my membership. I planned to return later if the schedule availability improved but decided to see how easy the cancellation process was. Well I can honestly say, after this (which isn't even resolved yet), I won't ever return - this is, if I can even get out! I have been attempting to cancel since 10/24. I left a message with the Accounts team on 10/24, 10/25 and 10/26 with no response. I called the front desk on 10/28 and was told she would submit a request to the accounts team on my behalf and that they would email me with the cancellation request form. I called the Ellicott City location on 10/31 since Columbia didn't answer the phone. I spoke with Mike (the manager at both locations). He told me the only way I could cancel was to wait for that email from the accounts team and that I should give it more time. I called again on 11/1 and the front desk employee told me there was no other way. I asked if I could drive over to get a cancellation request form and was told I'd have to wait for the email but she'd put a note on my account that I called again. I left another message with the accounts team on 11/3. I'm very frustrated and concerned that I've been making worthwhile attempts with no success. I'm being told I have no options except to wait for an email which isn't coming and no amount of calling is helping. Kudos to massage therapists! They are great at their jobs. My issue is with membership rules and reg. Canceling is a nightmare! I cancelled my membership but that person was furloughed during Covid and no one followed up. Now I've been charged two months into the new year! I just found out it takes 15 days to cancel so now I have to look out for an email for 2 weeks! You have to check a box on the email and return it or it doesn't count. The rep even told me that a lot of people miss that part. So they continue to take your money while YOU follow up with that. They know this is a flaw and yet it continues. It is my birthday month, and I personally feel that one should celebrate the entire month in addition to having having a day that I like to term 'pamper me pretty.' A gift card was given to me and pow along I went. Scheduling was pretty seamless, I made sure to express my needs and requested a specific therapist that could address them. I scheduled at 90 minute introductory massage, and it was awesome. I know I passed out. My therapist was awesome at addressing my concerns and worked out all of my kinks. I can't commit to a six month or year long contract and I'm less than thrilled at what the price is without membership. They did offer a three month deal, and they claim that the massages can be used with your FSA/HSA which is pretty awesome. I'll have to look into that, and if it works out, I'll be back. read more

For months I have been attempting to get a billing issue resolved and the Massage Envy staff at Columbia, Ellicott City, and corporate have acted helpful in the phone calls and face to face and then do not follow through with the actions they say. I have lost over $200 in my membership due to massages expiring during COVID when I was not comfortable going back yet. They act like they'll look into reinstating them for me and then never get back to me and I have to start the process all again. I have had a ME membership since 2014 and actually have enjoyed my experiences until recently. It is IMPOSSIBLE to get an appointment yet I get charged every month for services that I cannot use. I have had appointments cancelled for no reason and can't get anyone to answer the phone so I can understand why. I was told to try other locations, which I've looked into, but 1-they don't have appointments that work for me and 2-why do I need to travel 20-30 mins away from my home when I live in Columbia and 10 minutes from the location? Unfortunately I have to come back and pull back my initial rating and review of this location due to their subscription/membership cancelation processes. First, the monthly pricing of the membership increased. I did not hear it from ME first. I heard it from other sources. I never received an update/notification/email from massage envy. I had to request for an email to be sent to me. I finally received this email after requesting it multiple times. I then told them due to this poor communication about something very critical, I wanted to cancel. I was in the store when I asked about this and was told they could not help me, management needed to send me an email. I requested that. Again it took multiple requests to get this email sent to me. I was trying to cancel prior to the change in membership fees. I finally received the email with the link to cancel and responded immediately. Weeks went by with no confirmation of receipt of my request. ME communicates regularly through texts about appointments and openings BUT would not respond to my inquiry about cancelation. I also called the store and left a message asking for confirmation and never received a call back. I resent the cancelation request during this waiting time. By coincidence at my last appointment, the manager was in the store and I asked what was going on with my cancelation request. Oh the cancelation is effective a certain number of days, that I can't recall, from the request. The manager indicated the date they received my request on x date- it was the 2nd request - and so I had missed the cutoff to have the cancelation effective prior to my next billing. I let him know I sent the original request 2 weeks prior. He had to refund the fee for that month. Honestly this is scammy and feels fraudulent and the reason I hate subscriptions that require some manual intervention. DO BETTER MASSAGE ENVY. **Recently UPDATED*** (Aug 2010) It's a spa summer for me. Rather than going on another vacation (just got back from Denver & Atlantic City) I'm experiencing the spas around my home! A friend of mine belongs to Massage Envy - (Note: they assertively push a monthly membership when you go there but it's worth it!) And that's the only negative thing I can say about this hidden jewel across from the COSTCO and near the Trader Joe's There's an introductory massage special on the interwebs and it's well worth it. Get that and try it out - but they will try and sell the year membership at a reduced cost and you can skip months and double up. More on this later. The quiet room is LOVELY! Unlike Lynn's Day Spa it's dark, small, & quiet. Though the new chairs they got are hard, they don't go up high enough in the back to support your neck they're pretty but I could only wish for footstools...I'm not fully relaxed unless my feet are up (teachers need that - year round!) Flickering faux candles add to the relaxation and by the time I was quietly greeted (only a few min) I was ready! Outside the quiet room is a counter with a cooling dispenser of ice water & cups to refresh as you wait and relax or on your way out. The couples therapy room which I was escorted to for my first time was large and lush. The massage I got from Wendy was firm but she listened when I asked for a softer touch (ok, I'm a wimp!) and it was delightfully extensive. I always have a hard time letting my mind go during spa treatments...I think of the next blog posting, webinar, or conference call and it's only about halfway through that I start to "let go" Wendy sensed this and in no time I was trusting her and enjoying one of the best massages I've ever had anywhere in the world. Should I have paid the membership fee and then a monthly charge for a massage? There's no way out if you do...if you decide you don't want to be a member you need to move away or get a doctors note saying a massage would be bad for you (AS IF!) So...I didn't commit myself for a whole year...but I'm going back tomorrow for a hot stone massage with Wendy ($98) I may have more to add after that. UPDATE: The hot stone massage was great! I bought a 3 month membership - yeah, I have (retail) commitment issues- But I really think I'm gonna go for the year membership. Massage Envy is just that special. I also tried another therapist. She put a heated pad on my neck as she worked on my legs and then on my lower back as she did my arms & shoulders. Mmm lovely! She had a really sweet light voice that didn't intrude and knew when to talk and respected my silence when I started zoning out. PLUS: she gave me great exercise tips for my aching wrists and arms. Yeah, I type a lot. Umm better stop now or I'll need another massage! 2nd UPDATE: (5/11/12) Ok...I DID end up joining for a year & I'm really happy about it!!!! I do like how you can "bank" months so if I can't get to it one month I can go twice the next!! (or bank them more during the school year then go every other week in the summer!) I am usually not a fan of Massage Envy because their therapists don't get paid a whole lot and I believe they deserve more. Imagine how much more they would make if they didn't have a company overhead? It would take a start-up cost and admin work so that's why most of them don't do it. I try to schedule massages with individual therapists or small studios but the reason why I appreciate Massage Envy these days is because it's affordable and I need frequent appts to loosen some serious knots and tight muscles. They offer a decent plan and many scheduling options with lots of therapists and several different locations. One of the receptionists talks too loud and is not calming or relaxing but she tries. The other ones are just find and friendly. I can tell that their focus is on mass quantities and pushing people through, not on a holistic approach, but that's okay. As long as you know what you're getting. I've had the same therapist several times. She's pregnant and a trooper and good at what she does. It's definitely helping and I'm going to keep going until more tension is released in my back. read more

Unfortunately I had to come back and change my review.. I have been happy with most of the therapists however I have not been able to get the same person twice. It is very hard to get any appointment and also I got multiple same day cancellations, as well as the person who I was trying to gift a session to. He got cancelled on 3 times and he just gave up so it definitely did not leave a great impression. I have tried the full body stretch and the facial just to use my sessions so I could not even count on regular massages. My first membership is a contract for a year and I was told the last payment would be at the 14 month time frame which seems weird to me for a year contract. They allow 60 days after cancellation to use up any credits so hopefully I will be able to get that done before I waste my $. I'd recommend to pay as you go if you must go to this company for your massages otherwise not worth the hassle and the monthly fee. read more

My appointment was 60 minutes to clear blackheads and I received 55 minutes of massage, face wash, hot towel, exfoliation and not even 5 minutes of extraction. On the way out I complained to what seemed to be the manager and he ignored my complaint and said that was the procedure?!? In the end, on top of that, he didn't give me my printed receipt, but a poor print of the computer's screen where you could barely see what was written and there was no description of the service and company information. They said they not give print receipt,If you are looking for skin cleansing with extraction, do not go to this place because it is not professionally qualified for this demand. The place is clean and in a good location however the massage left something to be desired. I signed up for a massage envy membership while visiting Virginia Beach. The massage was great and I was really excited to get a monthly massage at my local Columbia, Md location. When I walked in it was really busy but I was quickly attended to and moved to the waiting room which great spa music, nice smells, and colors. Then out comes my masseuse a happy go lucky, amateur....great (sarcasm). I explained to her how tense my shoulders were and she excitedly told me this was her area of expertise.... After she requested that she be able to take her shoes off, she began the p rocess of breathing heavily over me and pinching and pushing on my shoulders which was her version of a massage, not mine. There were quite a few times i had to yelp in pain from the pinching and this was not a deep tissue massage. After it was over I went to the front desk and paid close to $75 after tip. I decided for what its worth, I can get my back pinched for free at home. I cancelled my membership. When I want a good massage, I'll just go to a professional spa. read more

I will say upfront - the massage therapist I had was adequate and under different circumstances, this would have just been a 3-star experience. However... here's the deal: no one at this establishment knows what reflexology is, even though it is plainly offered as an item on the website. I called to schedule reflexology. I made that clear probably 3 times during my scheduling phone call. I was scheduled and arrived today. Of course, this is Massage Envy, so they do their best to up-sell you for everything under the sun. The person who spoke to me about my "massage needs" prior to the appointment did not know what reflexology was, as she asked me, 'So I see you marked down feet on the form, just ask the therapist to spend a lot of time on your feet.' Ummmm? I told the massage therapist I was there for reflexology and she immediately told me that she was not a reflexologist and did not know why someone scheduled her for my appt, but offered me a 'foot massage.' SURE. I had already left work and was there. WHY NOT. So, I literally got an hour foot massage, which was not reflexology and not what I scheduled and not what I wanted. I've been staying in the area for a few weeks and am very familiar with Massage Envys - so I booked an appointment last minute (morning of) and got Ryan (maybe Bryan if I'm a space cadet) after mentioning some upper-back stress issues - I tell you that man could rock the tension out of Atlas's shoulders. I've easily had over 20 massages in the last few years and this one warranted my first Yelp review. None of that scapula-popping & knot-rolling nonsense; outpatient surgery was done today. I could pretend to know what I'm talking about anatomically, but I just feel better. Plain & simple. My experience with this company has been an absolute nightmare. I have pages and pages documenting my experience in case I decide to take legal action. There are no notifications of policy changes and every time I call, I am told something different with regards to these policies. Twice, I've had to call my credit card company to block the monthly charge, as it's only then that someone may call me back. We can all appreciate the challenges the pandemic presented, but no one returned my call for literally, over 2 months. And when someone did return my call they were contentious and quarrelsome. They recently implemented a freeze option where you still pay a monthly fee which gives you the option to book appointments to catch up, but they cancelled 4 appointments in two months, do not have enough therapists, yet don't have any openings for appointments, but still want to charge their monthly fee. At this point, I will probably take the loss, because I can't even enjoy a massage because of the constant battle it's been for the last year. Massage Envy is the best. They offer introductory massage prices for $49 and they are open 7 days a week until 10 pm. They will probably try and get you to get a monthly membership, but I am fine with that and I did. Is there really anything more amazing than being able to get a massage for a good price monthly? Only that if you are unable to go you can get a two hour massage the next month! Heaven. I have been going for a little over 2 years (maybe even 3 now) and I love it. It's clean, the staff is friendly, they are open late so it is easy to get something scheduled, and they always call and remind you about your appointment. I look forward to that call every month. I have also gotten facials here and I reccommend that as well. You can do this in lieu of your massage for that month as well. There are quite a few good people but I always go to the same girl. I will not tell who that is though because she's so popular it is already tough sometimes getting an appointment! read more

This was my first time a this particular Massage Envy and it was a good experience overall, but the massage could have been better. When I entered the business I was greeted with an abundance of energy and excitement by the front room staff. After my initial walkthrough and introduction I was seated in the tranquility room, which was a little cramped and not very tranquil. The other guest in the room were on their phones rummaging through bags, which left it less than peaceful. After being greet by my massage therapist I was ushered into a room and given a quick informal run down of what would happen during the massage. I specified I purchased a full body massage, but asked for a little more attention on my next and shoulders. What I got was 45 minutes of neck and shoulder and only 5 minutes for the rest of the body. Overall the massage was good, but for a medium level of pressure it wasn't very strong. read more

First and foremost the customer service I received at this Massage Envy was great. I called in a same day appointment and they were still able to book me. Both the receptionist and sales person were nice and didn't press too much for me to sign up for a membership. The pre massage waiting room was pretty calming, soothing music played gently through the speakers. The bread and butter though is obviously the massage. They asked you what areas you want to feature and try to cater your massage specific to your needs. You undress to your level of comfort and then lay down on the table. The massage I got seemed to focus more on kneading my upper body/shoulders and I didn't feel as though I got the full body taken care of like I was looking for. I only did a one hour session so maybe there wasn't enough time. Unfortunately though my shoulders and upper back got worked on and I didn't feel that full body release that I'm used to. They provide water for you upon completion which is important to flush all those toxins out. Overall I'd say I got an okay massage, maybe it was the time constraint but I didn't leave feeling as relaxed as I expected compared to the last hour long massage I got. I signed up for a monthly massage membership and absolutely loved it! Mack was fantastic! One of the best massage therapists I've ever had. But I have moved out of the area and have been trying to cancel my member for over two months and continue to be charged for the membership $70/month. Melody helped me last month to refund me the accidental charge after cancellation. But I was just charged AGAIN for the membership on 10/30 despite cancelling it on 9/28. I am extremely frustrated and have gotten no resolution. The franchise location cannot cancel my membership only the corporate office can, but you can only email them and not call them. However, when you reply to the corporate customer service email address it is sent back as undeliverable. I have again contacted customer service to try to put an end to my membership and am awaiting a response. Based on this experience I do not recommend this membership program. I do highly recommend the massage envy for a massage, but do not sign up for the membership. read more

Be warned. Massage Envy runs their business by extortion with their memberships. Massage sessions accrued during the pandemic and when I tried to find a way to get free of the continuing payments I found that I would loose everything I had paid in at that time - about $1200 - if I canceled my membership. They have hidden rules that seek advantage over customers. Tricks to not allow cancellations. BBB had no influence and was unable to help me, since they are not members of BBB and don't care. Check BBB website if you don't believe this. I have disputed continuing charges on my credit card after my cancellation didn't "take"! read more
