This is pretty much the Walmart of massages .. This was a big mistake that I was pressured into by the front desk ..they are obviously more concerned with you signing a contract than if you enjoyed your massage... And for your convenience they have a framed sign in the room you can read while you spend 10mins waiting for your therapist to come back .. The sign lets know just how much you should tip for which ever session you chose ..ugh this place is unbelievable ....all they seem to care about is your money..I would never go again and highly suggest you do the same ... But if you do go DO NOT SIGN THE CONTRACT ...They will not let you out of it even if you do not feel better after the massage in fact even if you feel worst... one of the worst massages in my life ...even of your spouse was laid off ..the owner just doesn't care about you ..all they care about is your money read more

I didn't have yelp at the time I went to get a massage and now that I have a yelp account I would love to write a review for this place. Never go here. All this place cares about is selling you a yearly package. Each employee has a paragraph that they are expected to know when they are hired to tell a customer at the end of their massage so they can sell them a yearly massage package for each months. I got a massage here and it's not an hour it's actually 50 Minutes because they count the time you undress and dress. They don't seem professional and their work doesn't show quality. I also took my grandmother to get a facial... And when we arrived they told us we are 15 minutes late when I was positive we weren't. Because we were late they cut down the facial by 15 minutes and didn't even tell me until I asked why she wasn't doing extractions she said because there's no time because we lost 15 minutes.... I am not sure if it is how Massage Envy trains their staff or if this is how this person decided to handle the situation. The front desk at Massage Envy does push very hard for you to buy a membership - and they do know how to challenge you and every answer you have. We will not be returning to Massage Envy because of the person who booked the appointment at the front desk. While the Massage was WONDERFUL...the customer service provided by the front desk when I booked a couples massage was awful. My boyfriend purchased a couples massage for us as a Valentines Day gift. The card holder which was filled out by the staff at massage envy stated - 1hr couples massage, aroma, and tip. We had been once before and enjoyed the massage and wanted to return (even though the front desk had been very pushy for us to by a membership). The person who he bought the service from linked the gift card to my name - so they knew we were not members and had been to their spa before but the massage was sold at a members price. When I called in to book the service, the front desk informed me the gift card was for $150.00 which did not cover a non-member couples massage. As I tried to explain i was not sure of the amount on the card - only that the person had written into the card 1hr couples massage, aroma and tip - I was interrupted many times, told that my boyfriend must have not told them we were not members (but they had linked the gift card to my name), or maybe he did not want to pay for the entire thing at that time., the front desk gave me a million and one reasons for how HE PURCHASED THE GIFT CARD WRONG - i never heard, I AM SORRY FOR THE CONFUSION, I never heard them take ownership for THEIR mistake. Finally the front desk honored the gift card as it was sold but not until after I was given a good 10 minute lecture (again!) on how HE purchased the gift card incorrectly, and that in the future they would only honor the non-member prices for us. read more

Be very leary of the monthly membership which is deceiving! They say 1 hour session but it is only 50 minutes of massage time! The massage was average to say the least. Though the massage to hook you in was much better and I'm pretty sure that was 60 minutes of massage time. The sales people are experts at selling you the membership. The place is a factory, my wife left the massage with bruises and later developed a skin rash. After numerous calls to corporate, she was promise that the owner would discuss the situation with us, which he left a message. We returned his call numerous times, never answered or returned our calls. They have some great massage therapists but there are some we will not schedule with I.e. too chatty, milk toasty etc.,...It seem that more effort is extended by the east Greenwich staff, which is why we usually go there. Cranston is always so busy, perhaps customer service doesn't need to be as good. We feel more valued at the east Greenwich location. Overall I like the concept--- but it's not really a spa. There isn't even a changing room and they always skimp on minutes. What do u expect for $50? It's actually cheaper than the crazy mall people that torture u (but in a good way). read more

I went yesterday and had the most enjoyable experience. I worked with Andrea as my wellness specialist she was so helpful. I came in for lower back pain saw TJ he was very nice - perfect amount of talking and did such a great job i walked out of there feeling better and completely relaxed! The reason i went to massage envy is cause my normal place was booked n i needed to get in right away to release some of the tension in my back. When i walked through the door i was treated like i was the most important person in the room cucumber water and a hot neck wrap! I can see why some reviews felt pressure to sign up for a membership, but it there jobto explain and if you cant say no then its your own fault- you cant beat the price $59/ month you get a massage or facial with that and if u go for another its just $49 so what a deal and great service! I made a reservation for a massage online. I received an email confirmation from Massage Envy acknowledging my appointment. I called Massage Envy the day before my scheduled appointment just to confirm my appointment. I was told that they did not have the reservation in their system. I explained I had an email confirmation of the reservation. I was told u can't always rely on the online booking. What the hell is the purpose of booking appointments online if the system is flawed? Booked a facial because I wanted to relax before the holidays. I booked with Jazmin, whom during the facial seemed so inexperienced. I've had many facials in the past and she skipped over many of the treatments I should've received. The most important part for me was the extraction which she couldn't do. She spent most of the fiscal trying to sell me products and push enhancements on me. I would never let her work on me again. It was over just a waste of 50 minutes and my skin looks worse than ever. read more

Great environment, well priced when you have the plan, and it is worth it! I am not a wealthy individual either. Staff is always nice, and rooms you can cater the lighting, music to exactly your comfort level, great experience and always look forward to going. Oh, and in response to the other, if you tell them you don't want the plan, they will let it go, they don't keep pushing. I didn't get a plan at first due to different money situations at the time. I'd like to rate this place with NO STARS. Envy...... The ONLY ENVY is for the client who can escape this place without caving for the unrelenting pressure to join. On two occasions I traveled more then 45 minutes only to find that there was a 'MIX UP ' with my appointment and they had 'DOUBLE BOOKED. The first time I was understanding but again 3-weeks later ........ not happy. Seriously, No excuse. I am a member at Massage Envy in Cranston and have been for over a year now. I signed up because I am a machinist by trade and work the night shifts 11pm - 7am 5 nights a week. I have a stressful work schedule and once a month I go for a massage to relieve all of that stress. The massages are usually incredible. Terrence gives the best massages although he isn't always in this location. Ask for him if he's available for the best work. I also go for facials so I don't look like I'm dead tired all the time and it's very good for you. The facials here are excellent. Great aestheticians who work with you for what is best for your needs and your skin. I love all of the people who I've gotten facials from. The place is quite relaxing with great music and massage chairs in the waiting room. They offer aroma therapy for massages which is always awesome. For the most part I really enjoy my membership since it saves me a lot per massage and facial. However, the one thing that is a bit off putting is their need to upsell their beauty products and other services. I am willing to pay quite a bit for getting rid of stress because I have the funds but the products are expensive and they offer after every service. Still, I enjoy being a member here and the hot stone massages are the best. Definitely worth a try. Might not be for everyone with all the upselling but overall a great place. read more

Made an appointment for a 1 1/2 hr hot stone massage and for my daughter a prenatal massage .Arrived at 8:30 am . The people working there are very friendly. After paper work was led to the tranquility room which is nice but it was cold. After waiting about 10 min my therapist came and I was about to be led away when we were informed my daughters massage had been cancelled due to a no show of the therapist. Wow. My daughter had to arrange for a baby sitter and we drove 25 min to get there. We tried to reschedule but there was nothing at the same time. They did offer us a $10 free foot massage which was an insult to me. I understand stuff happens but they should of had a back up person for the massage or given us a better discount. I have gotten massages in the best places such as Little Palm Island in the Keys, Sanibel island, cruises. Never had I such terrible service. They lost 170$ in sales and all future sales of mine. Needless to say I did not get a massage either as we wanted to get one at the same time. I guess it's time to look for another more customer friendly place. read more

I was given a Groupon as a gift, so I booked an hour massage here instead of at my usual spa. I arrived 15-20 minutes early as I do at my usual spa. I expected to fill out paperwork, be taken to a locker room and then a lounge before going for my massage. Well, I basically had a health interview at the front desk in the open, no privacy. I was then brought to a lounge for a few minutes and into the treatment room. There was no locker room to change in. The therapist spoke to me for a few minutes, not an in-depth discussion that I am used to from a new therapist. I changed and waited on the table. About 5 minutes later the therapist returned. My massage was ok, nothing great. It lasted about 45 minutes and then I changed and was brought to the front desk. There was no water or time to relax in the lounge before being bombarded by the worst experience a spa can offer: a high pressured sales pitch when I am supposed to be leaving relaxed. They managed to eliminate every bit of relief I received from the massage. The front desk tried to sell me a membership for $60 a month!!! They had lots of reasons to buy it, including a non-member pays $96 for an "hour massage" (it really lasts 45 minutes)! I go to a different spa (not a franchise) and get a locker room, lounge, tea/water/snacks, and then access to a shower, whirlpool, etc after my massage. I also get a FULL 60 minute massage for $65. For $95 I get a 90 minute massage. I would never return to a Massage Envy or anyplace like it. Find a good, local independent spa. They will treat you well and won't sell you some membership that you will have to sell your soul to cancel after the contract period. read more

They advertise prenatal massage, yet you can never get in as they never seem to have the person on and have to book well in advance. The girl on the phone was not very helpful. It really put me off. High pressure sales still even though they settled a class action lawsuit recently regarding membership practices. Like many others have said here, the high pressure for sales of the overpriced skin care products and the membership take away from any form of a relaxing experience. I hate the pass ag sales techniques on the product lines as well. Also, don't have your staff talk politics. It is really unprofessional and also takes away from the experience. I am there to relax, not there to listen about politics and how they are impacting you. Things I like: The cucumber water and the massage chairs in the waiting room. Deceptive and extremely rude! I was charged for a message and a wellness program, when the first message should have been covered by the wellness program. I was charged $49.99 for the message AND $199.99 for the wellness program. When I asked them to rectify the situation the manager's response was basically no. I asked for a phone number to call corporate she said there wasn't one (really??). I found the phone number to corporate and am waiting for a response. Judging from all the bad reviews and experiences all over the internet, it doesn't look like I'm going to get anywhere. It was an expensive lesson. Also, the girl giving me my massage had a nasty cough. I thought it was very unprofessional. well let's see...to be fair , I think the price as a member is very reasonable. I agree with Sarah V. that the price for a non member is very high. No one charges that kind of money around here and the implication that you're getting a great deal by signing up is a bit exaggerated. Yes, you get a decent deal and yes, the massage is actually quite good. A couple of the therapists are exceptional at deep tissue and as good if not better than any therapist I've come across at high end clubs and hotels. The problem is with the training of the front desk staff and the hard sell approach to the business. People coming in for massages are looking for stress relief and when you get bombarded with aggressive "hard sell" people after your massage it simply takes away from the pleasantry associated with the massage itself. I can certainly see how people come away with more irritation and stress than when they went in. Most people are polite and courteous so when they don't aggressively fend off the sales pitch they end up dealing with a more aggressive sales rep who thinks they have an opportunity to close the sale because the person isn't adamantly rejecting them. This is only part of the problem with this business....the other problem is actually the poor management and communication with the clients if there is any change in the monthly billing . This style of management borders on malfeasance. Let me give you an example or two: When I went in for my first massage last year because the place was recommended, I had a great experience until I came out. At this point ai was pushed aggressively to sign up for the year. I'm not one to get pushed around easily, but I knew one of the workers and didn't wish to set a negative tone with these people incase I came back in for another massage. Eventually, the guy offered me a half year membership and a family discount price of 49.00 month instead of the usual 59.00. I took it because it was fair, but I made it very clear that I was not interested in anything other than 6 months. I did not want a year ( I said this multiple times). He said "no problem, just sign here and here and here"....well, My first misyake was not reading the fine print, but I just had an hour massage and this guy assured me that my request was not an issue and would be honored. Anyway, I went back a month later for my first massage of the term and all went well. I then stopped training and decided to save up my massages until I was back at running and biking . meanwhile, they continued to take out my monthly (which was fine). At 7 months I decided to use my time and was told my membership expired and that I had lost my time. I was stunned...I said nobody ever told me upon signing that I had to use my time within certain parameters or lose it. I assumed , intelligently, that if I was charged for time I had access to that time. The 6 month agreement was simply the obligatory monthly cycle for billing . I was told that it was stated in the fine print where I signed. I said it probably was, but I would expect atleast a courtesy call or email from a company that recognized one of it's members may not get to use his time . Then i noticed they had charged me an additional month and claimed that my 2nd massage didn't fall under the 6 month obligation because it was a couple of days before the cycle started (really? U knew what I thought). It was sneaky and they simply avoided addressing either issue in a preventitive manner , but rather did whatever they could to assure extra fees were pocketed. A professional company would never run itself this way and i had to argue with the owner about being misled when ai signed up. i agreed to eat the extra month I was charged and he agreed to extend my membership 2 months so I could use my time. This was satisfactory and not worth arguing about any further. So....i use some time and decide to save my last 2 hrs for my birthday in early april. well, I set up the apptmnt and a few days before i had to cancel because my son and I came down with strep. I asked whent he next available slot would be for 2 hrs and they said may 5th. i took it even though i didn't really wish to wait another month. On monday I called to confirm my appointment and was told that my membership had expired and the massage would cost me 200.00. I was at a loss for words...I said I already paid for this massage and if it was going to be a problem booking for may 5th (4 days after they claimed my membership expired) then why the hell didn't the desk staff mention this when we were going over the times on the phone back in march?..they said it was my responsibility to know when my membership expired and I said you're kidding right? Your staff has my screen up infront of them with all my information.. and the last time we spoke of this was 2 months ago. why again, if this were legitimately the case, would your staff not give me a courtesy call or email. They said they'd call back..never did read more

Don't go there please. At first I thought the place was nice but once I got a couples massage I noticed these people only want your money they have no sense or direction on how to create a romantic atmosphere they just threw us down and massaged us. Honestly I think a place with a happy ending treats you with more professionalism haha. I made the HUGE mistake of becoming a member. they call me to remind me for a payment but if you cancel with them and have remaining prepaid sessions you best believe they won't remind you. A massage should be about you. An atmosphere where they don't stress you about the money but a nice experience. instead as soon as you step in they have a tip sign ! professional? Nice location but seriously needs to improve in the customer service. what I mean by that is be more flexible to those who are members. I just honestly feel like I seriously got screwed over. Please be careful if you are a members and want to cancel because if you don't cancel on time they automatically renew your membership (didnt read that in fine print) !! I gave my 88 year old father a gift certificate for Father's Day this year. He arrived for his massage and was, off course, handed all the materials to sign. He was told if he could not continue his membership all he needed was a Dr.'s note and they would cancel his membership. We'll, of course, when he went in after a few weeks with the note he was told by management that the note could note be accepted. The diagnosis was a problem. So I guess the managers have a medical degree. My dad had a hip replacement 8 years ago and may need another replacement and was told the monthly massages were not a good idea, but Dr. Manager would not accept it. He had to return to his Dr. To get a more diffinate diagnosis. Wow, a manager and an orthopedic surgeon, wow. Please be careful of the high pressure front people! read more

Pay attention to the fine print in their agreement for membership. It is written to afford them all the protections and not very good for the consumer. Cancellation required in writing and with thirty days notice. So you really get charged another couple of months beyond the time where you'd like to cancel, in reality. But they are good at the hard sell and up selling you on additional product and services. Their really good therapists leave and turnover is great. So when you find a therapist you like, they are soon gone. At one point they asked for a doctors note for me to continue massage. I went thru hoops and drove the docs office nuts to get a note. When I brought it ME said, never mind - we changed our policy. These folks are difficult to work with, for sure. I am leaving and glad for it. read more

This location has unethical and possibly illegal business practices. They refused to cancel my account when I called them. They refused to cancel my account when I went to a location close to my home in Plainville, MA. I had to drive down and they tried to tell me my account had already been cancelled when I called them the first time, they refused to give me printed proof on the spot, and called the police because I was irate at the recurring $60 charge to my account. I obtained written proof that my account was cancelled at that point then received a call from the local police that I was irate. I told the police what happened and the police told me I did nothing wrong. I would never recommend anyone do business with these people. read more

I agree with the other bad rating reviews, I received a gift for my birthday, they told me that they need a credit card on file, when i went for my first massage they tried to push (hard) for me to purchase another plan. I declined, then was told if I dont want my credit card charged that i must fill out a cancelation form...I then said I will do it now then and the lady at the front counter said that i have to do it after my last massage..so I got my last massage and asked for a cancelation form, then was told $98 will be billed for the following month already for a massage.I said it was a 3month gift certificate plan and that's all i need right now, then was told that it had to be canceled 30 days ahead, yet last time I was there one of the lady's said that I had to wait until i used up my last massage....I was obviously conned. Terrible.They basically said that they would rather charge my card for a fourth month, when my birthday gift was a 3 month plan rather than have me come back when I can afford another 3 month plan. Poor,poor customer service. Do you think that they'd rather keep a customer comming back then con them into an extra payment that they obviously never wanted......NO, they'd rather con you for the extra $98 then have you come back .....Dont fall for it!!! Terrible. I wonder how many poor people they conned into charging extra money on their cards. Poorly run bussines. Because they stressed me out so much about charging money( that i dont have to waste) my massage was not enjoyable ,I was worried about the payment for a massage that I didn't need yet...i couldnt enjoy the massage and left with more tension then I had come with. Wow - so surprised to read the negative reviews here. I feel like when I went in for my session, everyone was so attentive. I got there early and they offered me a neck wrap (heated by the way). Also, they were starting a Foot Scrub service and offered to me for free to try! These guys are trying really hard to make customers happy. I asked all about the membership and they gave me all the information I could ever hope for. I didn't feel pressured at all, just that they were trying to help me save money...and they did!! I used to massages every couple of months, but now I'm probably going to do it every 2 weeks, it's such a good deal. Also, I tried 2 different therapists so far and they both were great! Went once for a deep tissue, and will never go back. There 'therapeutic heat" which you pay extra for is a single towel that is scorching hot, and two seconds later it cools down, enough to make it so uncomfortable that I asked my therapist to take it off. Deep tissue was not deep tissue. No pressure was applied what so ever. I have been all over and they actually work on problem areas. Another problem was her hands, the therapist most definitely smokes. You could smell it and feel the dryness in her hands. Not what I want in a Massage. Never going back. Chains are always bad news. I plan to stick to small spa businesses, were its not all about money and cheap work. read more

This review can apply to either Cranston or East Greewich. About a year ago I received a gift certificate from a franchise owner in Kentucky (in lieu of services provided to her that she decided not to pay with real cash). Since then I have called each of these locations 4-5 times, and have never been able to get a massage scheduled outside of my working hours. Nor will they just refund the useless gift certificate that I have. I can't speak to the quality of massage, since I was never able to actually schedule one, but in my experience their claims that it is easy to schedule appointments is bogus. I suppose it would be easier if you don't have a job and can go in in the middle of the day, or if you don't mind scheduling 2 weeks out. If you are thinking of buying a gift certificate here to treat someone you love to a massage - take a different course. They will just end up frustrated, and the gift certificate will take up extra space in their wallet. read more

Absolutely terrible establishment. Received a very thoughtful gift for valentines day, a gift card for a massage. Booked an appointment, took the day off for a day of relaxation and beauty, an hour before my appointment they called to cancel. After reading some of the other reviews this seems to be a trend. Yet if I had cancelled an hour before they would charge me 50% fee, and would get it because they take your credit card info when you make the appointment just in case you cancel even if you have a gift card. A policy that I do not agree with. So what happens when they cancel on you? NOTHING! They offered nothing to make this right. A later time, no thank you. Another location, no thank you. As a first time customer I had hoped customer satisfaction would have been a top priority especially after reading they pressure you to enter a contract when you are finished. I do not want to do business with this company and the other location is owned by the same franchisee so needless to say I will not go there either. A wasted gift card and a lost future customer...I guess as long as they already have their money they are pleased with themselves and will continue to do business like this. Received a $150 gift cert for birthday-inside was a coupon for free massage or facial- which was expired. Called EG and Cranston locations to ask if they would honor it. Both said there was nothing they could do- This is the last thing a customer should hear- especially a brand new customer who has never been to any of your establishments- and since their are now massage spas and facial establishments on just about every corner- not to mention groupons and sweet deals for such. Had to research the owner who owns several Massage Envy spas in the area-he did not want to do anything to assist me and said he has rec'd expired restaurant g/c in the past himself and 'oh well."Really dude? You are the owner and you cannot make this situation right? Really makes me want to come in ---I am planning on listing the g/c on Craigslist and unloading it asap. Retailers and shop owners really need to get back to basics and good will tactics in this present or in any economic climate. It was their error and should have been easily corrected at the first notice. Not made a federal case out of it-I certainly don't Envy this Massage place - nor should you. read more
