Me and my boyfriend used to love coming here. The ladies here were very nice, gentle, and attentive. Recently came back and didn't recognize any of the people working. I came in for a foot massage and they talked us into getting a full body massage. The lady massaging me dug her elbows into my spine and was rough. I was grunting and asked her to be lighter but she continued still heavy elbowed. Then, when we went to pay my boyfriend tipped $25 for the both of the us and the gentlemen had the audacity to say "$25 for the both of you is too little." If you're looking for a cheap massage and you're in the mall or nearby Massage Journey is a good place to go. Just keep in mind, they aren't some kind spa, wellness center, super professional therapists...it's a massage in the mall. You can pay $85/hr elsewhere or pay $50 here. I think if you keep your expectations in the right place and patiently communicate your needs you'll be fine. Harder, softer, no elbows, focus on lower back, all that is understood with their minimal English and that's all you pretty much need. Full body massages done in closed off areas and they can bring you a heat pack as well which is nice. In the end, I walk out with my knots worked out and feeling better and having saved a lot of money. There are some staff who are a lot stronger than others and some staff who are softer. Sometimes it's hard to find the right match but it should never feel like suffering or like you're just being patted on the back. I've seen someone literally stand up and say, "No, too hard." after already expressing this and another staff came and gave the massage and the customer was happy. TIPS: go at the end of your shopping trip because you will have creases on your face from the chair and the paper towel they use over the cushion. Sometimes they will work on your head so if you don't want your hair touched just let them know. If you feel like they don't understand your needs/requests pull your head up away from the chair/table and speak in few direct words..it's always worked for me. I've heard customers say things really fast while their face is in the cushion...it's difficult even for me to understand that. Tips are cash only and they do have a restroom in the back. Weekends are pretty busy for chair and foot massage but it's usually only 5-10 minute wait. Weeknights are empty. In the end, i think it's about expectations. It's a hard job that I would never be able to do so I'm just grateful for an affordable place that I can turn to for a quick massage. Yeah there's Massage Envy (although I'd highly NOT recommend it given the news..) or a higher end spa and you will receive much better service but sometimes this hits the spot. read more

A few of my friends swear by this place so I thought, what the heck I will give it a go. I'm not used to mall massage places but this place was packed on a Sunday afternoon, so I could tell it was probably pretty good. I got the two part package, a 16 min chair massage and 16 min foot massage. They are separate, you can buy packages, mix and match, have a full body massage, all sorts of options. It felt great, next time I'm doing a full body massage and then a long foot massage, talk about exactly what you need after an afternoon running errands. The massage therapists were quiet and friendly, the atmosphere is very quiet as well but very comfortable, high-quality chairs, they clean up quickly and thoroughly. I plan to come back once a week when I'm in the east bay! I highly recommend it and if you want to go again but aren't thrilled with your massage therapist you can request who you like. Honestly, this place, and the service, sucks. We walked in, and were greeted quickly. They sat us down, threw blankets on us and didn't even open the blankets. They were still folded. I have come here for a chair massage about 20x. The prices seem very reasonable to me, and I add a small tip. The people seem reasonably friendly, but of course many of them don't speak very much English. I have to admit it's possible that they are secretly saying bad things about me. I don't usually give a very big tip, so it's possible they get mad when I only give him a modest tip. Maybe they are saying bad things about me in Chinese, and I just don't know that I am being insulted. My wife often gets the foot massage, whilst I get the chair massage. Most of the therapists have extremely strong hands. So if you're not used to this, just ask them to do it more lightly. Of course, I'm not sure they will actually understand what you are saying. Sometimes, the massage therapist is extremely strong, I am tempted to yell out, and ask for mercy, but it would seem so unmanly, so I just keep quiet. I think sometimes they see me coming, and get out the strongest man to work me over. But even then, I can usually withstand it, and it feels so good when it's over. Sometimes when I am walking in the mall near this location, one of the massage therapist sees me coming and recognizes me. I think that creates some interest in the store. And they try to get the guy with the strongest hands to really work me over. But they just seem like such nice people, and don't wish to say anything that would hurt their feelings. One time I went there for a massage, and two of the therapists were having an argument. They were shouting at each other in Chinese, but of course I did not know what they were saying. Each time they shouted they dug into my flesh a little harder. Yes it hurt, but I didn't want to interrupt or be rude, so I kept quiet. So all-in-all, it seems like a pretty good value. We plan to return again. but this time, I'm going to be on the lookout to see if they switch in a really strong therapist. But I will still try to not scream or shout out. I'm all about self care and am always looking for a good massage place. Massage Journey is near the first floor Nordstroms in Stoneridge. Normally in Chinese massage places they offer foot massages and full body massages but Massage Journey also offers chair massages (the one where you put your face in the chair). I had skinny jeans on that day and didn't want to struggle with yanking the hem of my jeans up to my knees so I chose the chair massage. Quickie mall indulgence! I carry a lot of tension in my shoulders and like firm pressure. 15 minute chair massage really loosens up my shoulders and back. It is $12 for 15 minutes, reasonably priced. If you don't like firm pressure this is not the place for you. Also, there are sounds from the mall and talking so it's not a frou frou experience. But you will feel great afterwards. Edit 9/20/2015 - Service has declined and I've stopped going here entirely. The woman who works at the front counter is rude. The chair massages are either enough pressure to actually injure someone or with no pressure at all and a waste of money. It doesn't seem the staff are trained in what they do and the neck and shoulders are a delicate area to be working with. The foot massage is a joke with no pressure and the staff talking to each other loudly the whole time. And then for tips they are on top of it. And he was so proactive to get it, but while massaging he was so lazy, he wanted to finish early and literally just touched my feet all time. Just horrible then when I went to go pay $48 (too much for that crap I got) I only gave $7 tip because honestly he didn't deserve anything but i said "what the heck" then he had the nerve to ask me "do you have more?" I've been going to this place for awhile and I liked it. It was close and the price is great. But I won't ever go back again. I have worked in an industry where tips was part of your pay so I have always tipped good. This day was no exception. I filled out the credit card receipt and put the tip in. The lady who did my message was ringing me up. After singing it I handed it to her and she starting yelling at me she said "NO NO. WRONG 20%. 20%" At first I didn't understand what she was talking about then I realize she was telling me that I needed to tip her 20% this was so wrong and rude at that point I should've taken the tip off period. But I didn't and I left it on there but I will never go back there again this is not good customer service this was just rude you can't tell somebody what to tip you specially when I tipped pretty well anyway no I didn't do 20% but I gave her what I felt was deserved. Giant indian burn!!!! The place is cheap but you get what you pay for. I have had a few massages in my time and some were great some were just OK, but now I can say I have had a horrible massage. I am sad to say that my first yelp has to be a negative one :( When first walking in no one was at the front desk, a guy massaging someone in a chair yelled for someone else in the back. I would have waited patiently but he pointed me down to the back where I met with a lady. She showed me the space where I would lay to get my massage. There was a lack of privacy which I did not like and due to the lack of privacy (i.e. no curtain or anything covering the wide entry into the room only surrounded by 3/4 walls which could easily be looked over) I was unsure whether to take off any clothing or what. I tried asking the lady what I was suppose to do or what was etiquette to them, but do to the language barrier it made it awkward asking should I undress down to my boxers or what....? So I awkwardly followed in suit with other places I have been massaged and got down to my boxers. There wasn't even a towel to cover me until she realized what I was doing and brought me one. I lay there face in circle relaxed and anxious for my 1hr full body massage. I think she started massaging me it seemed alright at first, then an exchange of words in a language I am not familiar with there was all of a sudden a switch off and some dude started massaging me. Mind you I don't mind if I get a male but tone it down beefcake this isn't a strong man competition. It was bar for the most painful massages ever. My face was cringing in that little circle, and to top it off I think he only used two little dabs of lotion once for my back and once for a leg. This caused a pain similar to a giant indian burn or a sunburn on my back. I had made sure to have a $10 on me going into the place to tip them, and after all of this awkward / painful experience I chose to try (key word TRY) not to tip. As I walked out the guy had the nerve to ask me for a tip, being the nice guy I am and since services were rendered even if so painful I tipped him a $5. Words of advice USE LOTION!!! Last night I tweaked my neck making it rather painful to look to the left. While I don't have any upcoming plans of auditioning for community theater Zoolander roles, I still wanted someone to dig into my back and neck without the pomp, circumstance and price of getting an appointment at a spa. I remembered seeing Massage Journey the other week at the mall and was rather impressed that they had grown out of their kiosk location into a full blown store front. So I ventured over today. There was an open chair and I was invited to sit. And so began my 30 minutes of being made into meatloaf. Granted it's essentially in the middle of the mall and they poorly try to drown that out with wall fountains, but as long as you're not a moaner it's no big deal. Or if you're not embarrassed easily. They do offer full massages and have chairs further inside the store as well if you want to be away from the crowd and being made into a show. If anything it's a pretty good advertising technique. My massager found all my tight spots and knots. She didn't let up and I withstood some good pressure, which is exactly what I needed. For $24 for a half hour I will gladly come again, and probably sooner than later. read more

I had some serious knots in my back and shoulders. If I compare the massage part (and only the massage part) to those that I've received in Napa spas, this beats it by a long shot. I had a thirty minute full body massage (which lasted about 45 min), when this gal worked out most of the knots with deep tissue massage. If I'm ever looking for a full spa treatment, I'll take my wife up to Napa with me. If I ever need a deep tissue massage for sports related soreness, I'm probably heading to this place for a $26 massage. Expect a spa, you'll be disappointed....big time. I like deep tissue so every time I came in I would ask for a certain male employee, I swear the women masseuse would not react kindly and would immediately start saying things in Chinese and staring and laughing. I went here on my lunch since I work at the Stoneridge mall and my back was in hella pain before coming so I decided to get a massage. A coworker said her mom comes here all the time and recommended this place. Reasonably priced; $26 for a 30 minute chair massage. The man who did my massage spent quite amount of time on my shoulders but what was really hurting me was my lower back but I never got the chance to tell him that was the issue area since there was so many people getting massages and it was quiet I didn't want to disrupt the others. I assumed it was going to be full back massage but my lower back was hardly touched. I did get my full 30 minutes and tipped about 24% even though I felt not throughly massages. I am writing this review 7 hours later because my back is still in pain but slightly less in the shoulders; and because on my back it's HEAVILY bruised. This is my quick go to place for some tension relief. There is usually no wait and I like how everything is cleaned with alcohol. I always get the 1/2 foot massage/1/2 chair massage. Depending on how much time I have, I will either do 15 minutes each or 30 minutes each. I walk out feeling like a new person! Sure, this isn't a spa. There are no candles or soft robes (you keep your clothes on here!) and you can hear the hum of the activity in the mall, but it's economical, quick and relaxing. The people that work there have some seriously strong hands and fingers and sometimes it's a bit too much for me. They are happy to ease up a little. Love this place! read more

It seems like I'm coming to this place about 2x a month. This is so much better then "Art of Reflexology" in the Newpark Mall. When you go in for a massage...they actually massage you. They don't have a whole conversation with their coworkers (in another language), talk on the phone, massage with one hand, have to stop when more customers come in (this is Art of Reflexology). They give deep tissue massage (which is what I like), both the men & women give good massages. They do chair, table and foot massages. So far, this is my favorite mall massage establishment. I wish they were closer, I'd go more often. No matter who works on me, they always find all the painful knots and work'em out. I mostly do the 15 minute chair massage. I have also done the full body massage when my right hip gets hinky. I've had problems for over 30 years with my right hip as a result of a car accident. Got a fairly decent massage. Not the best. So I extended a 10% tip. The masseuse demanded 20% tip. I reluctantly gave him 20%. I called the management, and they are aware of this and frankly demands it. So in my response I told them to then put up a sign up front that clearly shows 20% MANDATORY TIP. I used to be a fan but I'll have to suffer the long walks in the mall a little more. It's great that these places have sprouted up in malls because where better since your feet are tired after walking. However, after having gone their several times, I noticed they tend to err on the side of shorting you your ful half hour or full hour. I haven't ever brought this u p because what am I going to do, ask for 5 more minutes and then get the most painful 5 minutes because I ratted out the person? Don't get me wrong, I've returned many times because they give great foot massages. But if I'm paying a full half or full hour, that's what I should get. Plus, found a place in the Ulferts mall in Dublin that gives way better hour foot massages. You get foot and full body massages for the same price. Hit or miss. There is a 50% chance that you'll get a massage that you won't like. I've been here a bunch of times but roughly about half the time I enjoyed their massage. My advice is avoid them when they're super busy as they tend to rush whenever they are tight. read more
