I don't think I have ever left a yelp review, but people deserve to know what they are getting themselves into by going to this restaurant. I would like to say maybe we were just there on an off day, but our table had some of the worst service I have ever had in my entire life. The waiter was friendly and somewhat attentive, but there were easily 5-6 staff just standing around doing ABSOLUTELY nothing. No one cleared out plates, it was impossible to get a napkin or silverware and forget about getting a drink. We got seated at our table and it took 25 minutes on the dot for someone to even say hello to us. Furthermore, a busboy (on accident) spilled water all over my boyfriend and instead of a "I'm so sorry" he walked away and didn't return with napkins, more water or anything else. The icing on the cake was when the bartender made the wrong drink and I let the waiter know politely and he proceeded to SNIFF my drink to see if I was telling the truth instead of rectifying the issue. The environment was also horrifying - it felt like a wet, smelly, dirty, basement. We sat down with liquid all over the floor and long pieces of spaghetti everywhere. While the Chicken Marsala was delicious (won't take away from what was good), my dinner mates were NOT pleased with their dishes. The "layered eggplant" was two small piece of eggplant with a small side of pasta. ABSOLUTELY NOT WORTH $32. The red pasta sauce was tangy and so salty. I can't say this enough - do not go here. The food was amazing. I liked the noodles. They were able to accommodate all of my needs(I'm a picky eater). It was a small little Italian place. It was very welcoming. And my server was amazing. I was eating out with a party of six and all of our entrées were out in no time. The portions were humongous. I am very impressed and highly recommend this place. I will definitely be coming back. After attending an evening social networking event, my friend and I decided to grab some dinner. We started to walk over towards the North End since my friend really wanted some Italian food. I was a bit tired, so I suggested we stop at the first Italian ristorante we spotted, which happened to be Massimino's Cucina Italiana. Since it was around 8PM on a weeknight, we were seated immediately in the extremely cozy, but intimate dining room and given some big menus to look over. We were also given some bread and oil with spices and garlic for dipping. For an appetizer, we started out with an Antipasto Salad served on a wood board, which had fresh mixed greens in a tasty dressing with cheeses, chewy prosciutto, olives, artichokes, and vine ripe tomatoes, very good overall. For dinner, I had the Fettucini Primavera which was piled with fresh sauteed vegetables & garlic, oil, and a very rich tomato cream sauce on a bed of firm pasta noodles. My friend ordered the Gnocchi Massimino, which soft potato dumplings sauteed with garlic, onions, and Pecorino romano cheese, a very filling dish. Since we filled up on the appetizer and bread, we had our food boxed to go. We passed on dessert since we needed to head back to NH very soon. Overall, we enjoyed a very good Italian dinner with prompt and informative service. We would definitely return again to Massimino's and we did pick a good time for dinner when it wasn't busy. read more

Lucky to get a valentines reservation and will try it again. I didn't make the right choice with the shrimp margarita. Way too much egg batter but the lemony shrimp was good. The shrimp cacciatore fared much better. Basic Caprese but good. Lobster Ravioli appetizer pretty tasty too. The biggest problem I had was the fact I had to hear about the entree specials being shared with the table behind me. AFTER I was mostly done with my meal. We stumbled upon this small restaurant and it wasn't crowded. We wanted to give it a try. We started with the bruschetta- yummy!!! Then we had the ribeye and lobster tail - oh wow! Delicious! Of course we had to end the meal with the cannolis! If you're in the area, definitely give this place a try - it's a small, family owned business. The service at this place was beyond terrible. My kids were excited to take me to dinner for my birthday, they made a reservation in advance. When we checked in the owner told us it would be a couple miniutes that they were just clearing a table. Place is small, so they left us waiting outside in the rain. We checked back 15 min later they said something should be ready soon. We waited outside about an hour, the owner or a hostess was no where to be found. We finally asked one of the waitress "How much longer she thought it would be?" She later returned to tell us it would be at least another half hour. In the meantime a large group of guys appreared to be friends with the owner, walked in with no reservation and were seated immediately. I told the waitress it would of been nice if someone told us when we checked in that they were over booked and we would of considered going to another restaurant down the street. It which we did and had an ourstanding dinner! Stick to Hanover Street the service is much better! These people could care less. read more

Quite an enjoyable place. The dish called the "Virginia" contained veal, wrapped around some ham, accompanied with sauce of grape tomatoes and artichokes. The dish was somewhat heavy and a bit too rich, but ultimately yummy. The linguini with calamari tasted excellent. The texture of the calamari was very soft and chewy; it's much appreciate that the calamari was not too tough! The red wine sauce gave the dish a nice complex flavor. The salad appetizer contrasted nicely with the main courses. The Caesar dressing was none too thick, or salty or rich. My only complaint, actually was the bread! Two words: awful establishment. I would give them zero stars if that were an option. We had a 7:45 reservation and once we arrived, we were told that it would be an hour until our table was ready. When we expressed our frustration, the staff was extremely rude and even proceeded to argue with us. We would have stayed if we had been offered free drinks or an appetizer during our wait, but we decided to leave because it didn't feel appropriate to give them our business at that point. Came for Christmas Eve dinner. Reservations with a toddler. Great seats in basement with room, TV and good service. The drink list is nice with several specialty drinks, wine and beer. The meatball appetizer (their calling card) is amazing and highly recommended. It's large enough for 2 people. Everyone enjoyed their Italian dishes. They have a large list of specials every night that's not on their menu. My only complaint is I ordered Little Necks with Linguini. My dish came with calamari and squid. Yuck for me! I had to wait to get server. He insisted it was correct order not calamari but said he would check with the chef. Moments later returned and said I was right they were making me correct Dish. They did, but everyone at the tAble had finished their meal. Mine was so hot, I was having to wait to eat. I ended up taking it in a to go box. When I got back to the hotel there were no utensils in the bAg to eat - sadly has to trash it. The restaurant made no effort to do anything other than pack it to go on Christmas Eve. It was a very expensive meal I did not enjoy. Others at the table were Satisfied with theirs. Massimino's is an experience that will make you go home and binge watch The Godfather and then fall into a blissful food coma. This is the kind of place that makes you wonder, am I eating the best possible version of this meal that I've ever had? We stopped by Massimino's on a recommendation from a friend and we were promised authenticity and a meal we wouldn't forget. This little gem is tucked away in a neighborhood in a building that must be over 100 years old. The limited seating provides an intimate atmosphere and the staff can recite the menu off of memory. My meal was absolutely fantastic, homemade meatballs and ricotta as our appetizer followed by stuffed veal. Everything was tender, well seasoned, and fresh. Their recommended way to finish off the meal was a plate of house made cannolis, one of the best desserts I've had in months. If you are in Boston and need some authenticity and a meal to remember I recommend a night out to Massimino's. read more

Had a glass of vino in the cellar. Met Paul the owner and he was amazing. Shared a little of the family story. They have menus but ask for the chefs favorite. Frank and Francesca in the cellar were INCREDIBLE! There was a head guy who was obviously the leader - I think Phillipe or something like that. He was rude to the other staff, he hovered over people and even complained about not making money - the younger team members said "tonight man - we will be fine after tonight". I gave only four stars not because of the food or the ownership - but literally this one guy. If I owned the place - I'd promote Francesca who is young over that older man!!!!! read more

Im very surprised that this restaurants quality has fallen to such low standards. At one time no restaurant could compare with Massiminos. Our last meal here was amazing and the memory of the salty, vinegar-y tang of the banana peppers in the calamari still haunted my taste buds after almost three years! I was not disappointed. Still delicious! This time, we also ordered a "Nonna's Meatball". Really good decision. The meatball is amazing and could certainly stand on its own, but let's go ahead and gild that lily! Accompanying your carne is a sizeable mound of gorgeous homemade ricotta cheese. Yum!! My husband took one bite, looked at me, blinked slowly, said "life-changing".
