Massimo Restaurant never disappoints. I've been here three or four times and every time has been excellent. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. The focaccia bread is amazing and a great way to start any meal. I usually visit Massimo during restaurant week because they always have a wonderful 3 course menu. Their Arancini is a great appetizer, as for entrees, they have a delicious Pollo Ripiene, Short Rib Gnocchi, and Carbonara. Tiramisu, Cannoli, or Gelato is a great way to finish your meal. Party of 2 arrived 5 min early for our 8:00pm outdoor reservation Friday night, and weren't seated until 8:30. Our waitress was very kind and knowledgeable about the menu options, but it took awhile to get our orders in and it was almost 9:30 by the time the food arrived. The food itself was pretty good. Having just recently moved to the area, I have been asking for lots of recommendations about where to eat. I had been told to try out Massimo and from the general reviews I was pretty excited. However, I was shocked when my partner and I didn't enjoy any of the items we ordered. Stuffed zucchini blossoms: barely any filling so all you tasted was the fried outside. Meatballs: meat was so soft it dissolved in your mouth without chewing, almost like it has been too finely pureed with a considerable amount of egg/crumbs. Had an overly soft meatloaf resemblance in taste and texture. Carbonara: whomever made it ladled far too much pasta water into it, it was sitting in pure liquid - very soupy, ended up not eating after a few bites. I'm unsure if they had someone new covering the kitchen or if there was another reason for our experience which seemed to differ from a handle of people - but it made us uninterested in returning. read more

Stopped in for a light dinner after a concert. Sat at the bar. John, the bartender, was excellent! We ordered 3 Apps and 2 glasses of wine. Calamari was tender but a little heavy on the breading. Layered Melanzana app could have been a main course! So tender and tasty! Tried their Torta Patata which was 2 potato cakes stuffed with fontina cheese. Brought home one torta and half of the Melanzana dish. If you're into fancy cocktails, they have quite a selection. The Blood Orange Cosmo, John said, was their most requested. read more

The squid ink pasta was an absolute stand out as was my Branzini. Squid ink was umami earthy and from the sea salty. My husband's charred octopus in a white bean sauce was perfectly tender w the char flavor & the sauce an unexpected flavor profile and delight. I liked the Branzini had tail but not head on & was deboned. We didn't have a bad bite. Salty, fresh, bright, all the right notes down to the free bread we lapped up our extra sauce with. Listen to ur servers. We were steered in the right directions. My husband's one pseudo mis-step was the veal but I think he had a breaded dish in mind vs the gravy and mashed delivered - but admittedly his own fault. Came here during a special weekend away with our 4 year old daughter and had an awesome meal. Had a hard time finding reviews that mentioned young kids but came anyway and glad we did! They had a great kids menu and the usual coloring paper with crayons to keep the littles occupied. We sat upstairs and saw some other families with kids and the noise level was just loud enough (but not too loud) to make us feel that family friendly atmosphere. Food was delicious. We had an appetizer special bruschetta with peaches and cherries and fig, gnocchi, Caesar salad. Italian food done right. read more

**Great Gluten Free Menu** I couldn't think of a better place to take my girlfriend, before proposing to her after dinner. Our server, Jonathan, was attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. I took his suggestion to have the pork chop and was pleasantly surprised how good it was. I tend to shy away from ordering pork chops in a restaurant, but glad I did here. Visited on a busy Saturday evening. I had reservations and we were seated quickly. We were offered water as soon as we sat and our server greeted us shortly after. I opted for the restaurant week menu (fried manicotti, short rib gnocchi, and chocolate bonnet), my husband the chicken parm and mashed potatoes. Unfortunately one of the fried manicotti came out cool in the center, and was sent back. The sent two more still room temp in middle. I felt awful. Service was so nice and attentive. They were very apologetic and kind. Third time was a charm. They are amazing. A little different than typical manicotti. Stuffed with fontina cheese and fried. We really enjoyed them. Our main course were both hot and delicious. Portions were so huge that we took half home. Leftovers were just as delicious next day. The bread is also tasty. The chocolate bonnet was like a flan and flourless chocolate cake hybrid. It was heavenly. I split it with my husband because I was so full by the time we got to dessert. I have zero complaints. Easily one of the best restaurants on the hill. We will definitely return soon. read more

I'm sold! Locals have told me to try this spot for ages ... I tend to not think of Atwells Avenue for good Italian food because its become so touristy and almost a comical version of what Italian American dining should be. Most of the restaurants here are kind of stuck in the early 2000's when it comes to decor and menu. Massimo has a limited menu but it's the best Italian joint that I've found in Providence. I am a stickler when it comes to finding a good Carborara on a menu. I try not to hold restaurants in the US to the same standard as Rome ... despite being a relatively simple dish ingredientwise, it is very tough to prepare correctly. Because if the dish is too hot, the raw egg will cook and 'foam' and if its too cold, the egg will just seem runny ... it's really the perfect preparation which is needed which has to happen for a good Carbonara dish. I saw that the dish here came with a raw egg on top that the diner mixes in. I wasn't having that and asked that the chef mix it in before it came to the table. (With the thought that they'll be better at quality control than I am.) The dish came and it was much bigger than it looks in photos. And it was PERFECT! As close to an authentic Italian-style Carbonara as I've had in the US. The gnocci baked in a clay pot was one of the heaviest dishes I've seen. I don't know who could ever eat a whole order. However, the tastes were so on par ... this was a great dish and it's no surprise why it is their house special. Don't skip the dessert! The gelato is fantastic ... you can get one scoop if you ask for it. Two are huge! It comes with a little cookie which is amazing. The pistachio was some of the best gelato I've had in the US. The inside is cute and feels very Italian, down to the ornate marble patterned floor. I will say that it is very tight spacewise here ... the tables are right next to each other and if you come here to do a business deal, the next door table to you is going to hear everything you say. You'll rub elbows with your next door table mates. That is my only critique ... that and valet only parking. Massimo is one of my new favourites in Providence for Italian. I will be back and can't imagine going anywhere else for as good a sit down dinner or lunch as I received here. The food is authentic, fresh and prepared with great care. read more

Came here for my birthday and I had a pleasant time. With compliantly valet, immediately the evening started on a good note because we didn't have to deal with the stress of parking. The place is pretty, and focaccia bread is served with olive oil and olives. Appetizer - We got the Calamari Fritti which comes with a spicy lemon aioli dip that I thought was good. I wish the calamari was a tiny bit crispier but it was not chewy or rubbery, which was great. We also got the Pizzetta Margarita which is basically a small pizza but the dough I believe was cooked mostly through and then they added crushed piennolo tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil and then baked it again so the cheese was melted. This was pretty good. Because it is crushed tomatoes and not a true tomato sauce, the consistency of this "sauce" factor was a bit on the more watery side which was expected. Great appetizer. Main course - I got the Spaghetti Al Nero con Aragosta. This is squid ink spaghetti and lobster served with a lobster cream sauce, peas, mushrooms, and topped with breadcrumbs. This was really good. Lobster was pretty fresh and the flavor of the sauce was delicious. Highly recommend! Our server was great, very knowledgeable. I found the place to be clean and comfortable. We went there 5/04/25 for lunch before our plane back to Fort Lauderdale. Here for a wedding in Bristol, it was recommended by a friend that grew up close by. Hadn't been there before but decided to try it for Resturant week. Service is exemplary and very kind. Started with bread with olive oil with a sprinkling of olives. Nice touch. Bar tender told me if I didn't like the beer I could order something else, again, very kind. We ordered the Tuscan White beans with kale, very good but a bit heavy on the salt. The chicken Parm was exactly what it's supposed to me. The Carbonara was silky and rich, but too salty for my taste. I added pepper to offset the salt. Stopped by here for a quiet lunch before exploring Federal Hill. The food was great and really enjoyed it! I wish I had more time in Providence. I would have loved to try more foods on the menu. Everything sounds so good! We shared a Caesar salad which was really good. The leaves were cold and crisp and the cheese on top was tasty. Hubby got the chicken parm which was a big portion and delicious as well. I got the short rib gnocchi. The gnocchi was really soft and fluffy and it was super tasty at first, but got a little bit too salty and rich by the end of the meal. Still delicious though! I went to this restaurant on Christmas for a cousins Christmas lunch on the Hill. I got the Linguine alle Vongole - Local Little Neck Clams, Garlic, EVOO, Parsley. I understand why this restaurant was voted Best in Rhode Island! The food was incredible. The clams were nice and fresh and tasted so light with the oil and garlic sauce! The linguine was a nice addition to the clams. One of my favorite seafood dishes and this restaurant really does it justice! The staff was very nice and made us feel right at home on Christmas! All of our food (all food in pics) was delicious and we were all very happy with our meals! It was a perfect way to start Christmas and we had wonderful family time! Man this place is so good!!! I was surprised and delighted when hubby picked this place for lunch one day when we were in the area. I am always a little skeptical when it comes to French and Italian food, due to my French-Italian heritage, but Massimo's knows what they are doing! We parked on the street because we didn't know they had complimentary valet parking. It was ok thought, it was literally just across from the restaurant and the fee for parking was minimal. Even though it was at peak lunch rush, it was easy for us to get a table, and we sat on the edge of the room in the breezy seating half indoors and half outdoors. On the table, they brought a beautiful basket of focaccia bread with a mixed roasted veggie dip. The bread was toasty, cheesy and warm, and the dip was bursting with flavor, and perfectly cooked. We scarfed the whole basket down before we were even done looking over the menu. Great first impression! We ordered the burrata starter to begin, and then opted for the prix fix option for me, and the Italian Pannini for him. The burrata was soft and delicate, with sliced meats, fresh tomatoes with basil, and some breadsticks. My set lunch included a gorgeous glazed walnut, gorgonzola and spinach salad which was lightly dressed, a huge serving of bubbling cheese gnocchi, and a generous serving of tiramisu. I loved the salad, the gnocchi was perfectly cooked, and the dessert was delicate, fresh and not too sweet. Service was super friendly and warm, prompt, and full of good recommendations. Prices were excellent for the high quality and generous servings, and ambiance was welcoming, clean, and well-appointed. I absolutely will be returning, after such a stellar experience. I can't wait to try what else they have to offer, literally everything we ate was superb! Solid 5 stars! read more

Massimo serves up excellent Italian food in a lovely atmosphere. We sat indoors but the restaurant's windows were all open, allowing in a limited amount of breeze from outside and giving us the best aspects of indoor and outdoor seating. The bread they gave to start was super chewy and was topped with a delicious seasoning. As a bonus, it came with (what I think was) eggplant caponata which was very flavorful and went really well with the bread. My family of four shared two appetizers and three pastas family style, and we enjoyed all of them! For our appetizers, we tried the fig and goat cheese pizzetta and the eggplant parmesan. The pizzetta had a generous amount of cheese and one piece of fig on each slice. While I wished there had been a little more fig, I thought it was delicious! The eggplant was sliced super thinly and had a perfect amount of breading, and the eggplant parmesan had a very fresh taste. We also shared the burrata ravioli, squid ink pasta with seafood, and gnocchi with short rib. The pasta was all perfectly cooked, and we really enjoyed the flavors of the different dishes. The burrata ravioli was great--I liked the lightness of the mozzarella in contrast with the fresh tomato sauce. The squid ink pasta was also very tasty and came with a lot of seafood. I really enjoyed the gnocchi as well; they were super plush and addictive to eat! To finish our meal, we ordered the chocolate cake, which was topped with crunchy nuts and came with vanilla gelato. The presentation was beautiful, but I was a little disappointed with the cake. It had a sort of strange texture--it was simultaneously spongy and dense. Also, it wasn't as intensely chocolatey as it looked. The gelato was good but a little too sweet. Especially considering the price, I don't think this dessert was worth it. I would definitely recommend coming to Massimo for a meal (it was some of the best Italian food I've had in a while), but I'd probably skip dessert here. read more
