We met friends at trendy Circe for an early Thursday dinner before a concert at PPAC. Circe was participating in Providence's restaurant week event, so we opted for the 3-course prix fixe menu. Unlike many restaurants that offer a very limited menu during restaurant week, Circe had quite a few appetizers, entrees, and desserts to choose from, and all of the items sounded delicious! To start, who doesn't like deviled eggs?...and Circe's version was elevated as each was placed on a beet slaw resembling a little nest and topped with bacon. While these were good, even better was the burrata. The creamy burrata was beautifully plated over a colorful pepperonta bursting with color, sweetness, freshness from the basil, and just enough acidity. The braised short rib was fall apart tender, and served over creamy parmesan risotto, which was perhaps a bit overcooked as the texture was akin to mashed potatoes. Overall, it was a really rich, enjoyable dish, though the seasoning was a little underwhelming for me. A nice demi glace drizzle would have been a perfect addition. For dessert, the NY-style cheesecake was just the right sized single person serving. It was a pretty classic version, aside from the dolce de leche / apple topping! Yum! Despite ordering three courses, the kitchen staff and service made sure to time our dinner just right so we could finish and get to our concert on time! read more

One of the most underrated restaurants in Providence for brunch! I started with the all-you-can-drink mimosas for $30 (minus the OJ - a personal preference & they were most accommodating!). Circe pours the lovely Villa Marcello Prosecco-Treviso DOC as their house bubbly. To start, we shared a Caesar Salad: romaine & kale, soft-boiled egg, croutons, white anchovies, aged parmesan. I enjoyed the hardiness of the kale in addition to the romaine & the ooziness of the egg elevated this salad to the next level. I asked for extra white anchovies as I could eat them by themselves as an appetizer! Our main course was the Carlo's Way: free-range fried eggs, grilled bread, applewood smoked bacon, sautéed spinach, roasted potatoes. Beautiful & hearty. I would have loved a little more color & crunch on the potatoes. We couldn't decide on one so we ordered both the chocolate gelato & lemon sorbet. Service was good. It's a nice restaurant with a decent menu. The fries were superb. The burger was mediocre at best. If there had been good bread it would have been a lot more enjoyable, but the bread did not taste super fresh and seemed pretty low quality. If I were to go back I'd want to do drinks and a bunch of apps. I'd love to give a higher rating but I can't do that with the bread. read more

Our Server handled the party with no issues on a busy night. They had a great menu and everyone loved their food choices. We went with the Jumbo Shrimp Appetizer and ordered the Aged Wagyu Burgers with Parmesan Truffle Fries and a side of Brussel Sprouts. Everything was cooked perfect and tasted great. My friends and I stopped by Circe on a Saturday night before heading to an event. The service and atmosphere was amazing as inside was clean and very fancy. The staff was extremely friendly and professional. The menu had a lot of different choices and was fairly priced. The food was also excellent I ordered the octopus and wagyu tacos and both were delicious. My friends ordered the free range chicken and curry gnocchi and they both enjoyed their selections as well. We went around 5:30 and by the time it was 7 the restaurant was pretty busy so might be good to make reservations. I would definitely come back to this restaurant. read more

We haven't been to Circe in a long while. The interior looks the same. It is comfortable and not overly loud. There is plenty of room at the tables. The bar is still hopping. Our server was great. She was very attentive. The restaurant's manager also came to see us while we were eating. He was very personable. The drinks were as good as I remember. Well made with proper balance and taste. The food was also excellent. We began the evening with duck breast egg rolls. They were very flavorful and had great crunch. The sauce they provided was very complimentary to the flavor of the duck. My wife had a special salmon entree with a risotto that was very well made. She was very pleased. My entree was truly great. I had the Angus rib-eye with a blue cheese coating along with pieces of crispy bacon on the top surface. It was served with a bone marrow demi-glace. I have been here previously many years ago and remember it being good and convenient to PPAC. They offer valet service and when you are seeing a show you can leave your car with them. I made an earlier reservation and we called to ask if that would be an issue for valet, they said no. Valet was not there at 5pm and so we had to circle trying to find a spot. Late to our reservation now and our table was not ready, the restaurant was not busy. We get seated and order drinks. It is all fine. I have dietary restrictions so I need to ask some questions but I never have a problem finding food. I did here! I could not believe that they put dairy in all of their dishes and were so unwilling to get creative and make me something. One of the options I could eat on the menu was salmon with corn salsa and pesto, but without the pesto. They charge $32 for a piece of salmon and salsa.... No other sides. The menu and staff lack creativity and also makes you wonder how much is already prepared in advance since they couldn't make anything special for me. I ended up eating two very sad tacos for dinner. The hostess came around and asked if I was still waiting for my food since I had no plate in front of me. I explained to her what happened and she said I could eat sorbet on the dessert menu. I was starving at that point and the idea of sorbet on an empty stomach wasn't it. Thankfully PPAC sells pretzels. I will never come back to Circe. My mom also ordered a burger and she said the patty itself lacked flavor. 0/10 recommend read more

We were told they had valet parking. They open but no one was there when we arrived at 5. Also someone in our party had dietary restrictions and they were zero help with any accommodations. We should have left but we needed to make a show at PPAC. Portions were small, except for the enormous side of fries which were overcooked as was the burger. We will never return. Circe was my Mother's Day dinner with my two daughters. On entering I was impressed by the decor which was very elegant. The service was great all the way thru from the young lady that brought us water to the waitress and even the manager that came over to talk with us. My daughter has been to the EG location and gave the manager her comparisons likes and dislikes. I did love the Circe pin wish they had some for sale. I would have purchased one. Overall a great experience, service, food, ambiance. It's Friday night and the weekends here. I need to unwind, where's the party, Mr. DJ, DJ?! CIRCE! First off- quaint little restaurant that is flexing their simple, modern decor that makes you immediately feel upscale. Mr. DJ is there on a Friday night spinning some hot beats that made girls night even more fun! It's very loud here but it allowed for us to cut loose, be silly and get a little loud ourselves as we unwound. Super friendly environment- our waitress was attentive and fun but we also befriended the party next to us as they wanted to have fun and we were bringing the fun! The food... matched the vibe. The charcuterie board was packed with an array of interesting items. Everything hit the spot! I favor fig. I went with the shirt rib. Beautifully plated and tasted exquisite! I definitely ate more than I should of but it was just that delicious. As a person note, I would have preferred a little less spinach. Then the chocolate sampler for dessert... plenty of food for 4 people and quite an array of sweets. Not only is this a great idea but well executed. I would HIGHLY suggest the sampler. read more

I had never been to Circe before but had heard amazing things, so I finally decided to give it a try- I wish I had discovered it sooner because it was AMAZING. The service was excellent, and the whole restaurant had a romantic, fun ambiance. Perfect for a girls night or date! I went for an early birthday dinner, and it was excellent. The "panty snatcher" cocktail was delicious, and we really enjoyed the short rib arancini special for an appetizer. For dinner, we loved the scallops and the mushroom bolognese, the later of which my friend got chicken on and enjoyed. ORIGIN: An established local bartender, Carlo Carlozzi, opened Circe in 2012. The restaurant is named after a goddess in Greek mythology known for skill in making potions. LOCATION: Circe is located in downtown Providence within walking distance of the landmark Biltmore Hotel (now the Graduate). CONCEPT: Circe offers American and Mediterranean-inspired dishes. Given the owner's background, it is not surprising to find specialty cocktails as well, fittingly described on the menu as "Circe's Potions". AMBIANCE: The restaurant is large, with two floors, but is designed such that each seating area feels intimate. Walls are painted white or lined with brick. Together with the sunlight streaming through large windows on two sides, the space is bright and crisp. Upholstered tufted banquettes and cloth-covered table tops add a sense of luxury to the setting. FOOD: Starting with the Burrata with Peperonata and Basil Two Ways, I was hopeful that Circe would prove to be a destination restaurant when in Providence. This starter was spectacular in appearance, scent, and taste. A ball of Burrata sits on chilled pool of stewed cubed red peppers, tomatoes, and onions, with basil purée and leaves topping the dish. It was a perfect dish for a humid summer evening. Unfortunately the main courses that followed proved to be less impressive. The Dry Aged Wagyu Burger with Parmesan Truffle Fries was generous, but not worth $29. It was difficult to gracefully maneuver on the small platter -- made more challenging given the burger's height and inclusion of a fried egg. The Wild Mushroom Bolognese ($23) was fine, but I was expecting the dish to be outstanding in some way. SERVICE: The evening I dined at Circe I found the server to be awkward and not informative such that I assumed he was new or temporarily filling in. It's a spot I typically frequent when I'm in the mood for a casual drink or perhaps a quick bite to eat, but last night, I decided to take things up a notch and fully indulge in a proper dinner--and let me tell you, I couldn't have been happier with my decision! As usual tradition whenever I visit Circe, I started the evening with one of their famous lychee martinis--a drink that never fails to impress. ( I have to say the best I've had in the state). Following my delightful lychee martini, I decided to indulge in their New England mussels, which turned out to be an absolute highlight of the evening. The mussels were served in the most amazing white sauce--rich, creamy, and infused with just the right balance of garlic and herbs, making every bite an explosion of flavor. I couldn't resist dipping the accompanying bread into the sauce, savoring every drop of its savory perfection. To complement this, I also ordered the calamari, which was fried to absolute perfection. The golden, crispy coating had a lightness to it that didn't overpower the tender and flavorful calamari inside, striking a flawless balance that left me wanting more. And last, but certainly not least, our entrées. We decided to go all out and chose both of the specials being offered that evening, and let me just say, they were nothing short of spectacular. The first dish featured perfectly seared scallops, their golden crust giving way to a buttery, melt-in-your-mouth texture, perched atop a heavenly bed of lobster-infused mashed potatoes. The lobster mash was creamy, rich, and bursting with decadent flavor. The second entrée was equally divine: a flawlessly cooked salmon, paired with tender scallops, all nestled on a luxurious butternut squash risotto. This is an interesting place with a good ambiance and. Nice menu. We ordered drinks, reasonably priced although the wines by the glass are not up to par with the food prices/offerings. The short ribs are decent. Plenty of food. We ordered the filet and a three sides. The steaks were a bit overcooked. The sides took forever; we were halfway through the steaks before the came and only because I pressed the server. The burrata salad was quite good. The food is fine, but for the prices, I would expect it to be better and would have really expected the service to be excellent. It wasn't. It was good; and disappointing. Went to Circe during restaurant week, I have to say the service was great the food on the other hand not so much! I got the halibut which was super dry I couldn't even eat it, I sent it back didn't get anything else, the waiter was very understanding. My daughter got the tenderloin which was cooked perfect, she also got the lamb lollipops which were also good. We spent our New Year's Eve at Circe last night and it was amazing !! Our friend made the reservation for a 9:15 dinner and little did we know what a fun , beautifully decorated, incredible food & entertainment night it was going to be! The owner Carlo was so personable & a great guy! Also our server was the best! Being New years we were surprised it was a full menu and we had a little of everything I didn't get more photos sorry! They had girls dancing in beautiful crystal outfits and a great dj too! The food was as pretty as delicious just truly the best! Presentation plus! Great service and the best drinks too! Complimentary champagne toast was a great touch! Confetti shot little money out at midnight and the servers all dressed as Elvis to serve the champagne with sparklers ! We were a party of 6 and had a great night to remember and here we were thinking of having dinner and we'd be home at 11 & we stayed till it was ready to close! The lychee martini has officially become my favorite cocktail of the year! It is so sweet and refreshing with a strong natural lychee flavor that is just fabulous. It is not summer yet but I can imagine how amazing it is during the summer weather sipping on this martini. I forgot to take photos on their food, I specifically adore the lamp chops and flatbread. The beef tacos were delicious as well. I heard from the bartender that after 9:30 pm there's DJ and you can dance (maybe only during weekends). The last call of drinks is 1:30 am during weekends, which makes this spot a great place to hangout after dinner. Definitely will go back very soon! read more

I've been here a few times but most recently went for restaurant weeks. Every time I dine here, I leave feeling like I spent more than the food is worth. My friend and I noticed how the portion had been adjusted for Restaurant Weeks, but we know this is standard practice during this special. We enjoyed our meals, the customer service is always good, and the atmosphere is fitting for a night out. On my last visit, I ordered the $28 lobster mashed potatoes but they were too salty to enjoy. With that said, I can't say the price matches the quality of the food and the portions. read more

I have eaten at Circe several times, mostly on off days at non-peak hours & found the food, service, and drinks very nice. That being said, you should be aware the lights dim and the music cranks at about 8pm, Thursdays thru Saturdays. I recommend this place to a friend a few weeks ago and she asked,"Aren't there a lot of douchebags there?" Went on Valentine's Day and the food was great. Absolutely no complaints on that front. The issue arises when we attempted to pay. They refused to take my Capital One card and asked me for a different payment method because apparently they've been having issues with chargebacks through Capital One. No big deal, I hand them my Citi card. I check my transactions a few days later and noticed I was charged $20 more than the actual total with tip that I signed... I know this because I rounded it off to an even amount and the total tip I left ended up being around 22% of the bill. So now I'm left wondering if this place legitimately has an issue with consumer fraud or if the fraud is being committed on the inside. read more

Phenomenal experience on a Friday during Restaurant Week. We had a great cozy, private table on the upper floor with a nice overlook of the restaurant. The 3-course menu had an excellent variety of vegetarian and non-veg options. Lastly, every course was outstanding! The price wasn't too heavy on the wallet either. 100% worth the value. The ambience was also fun, dance-like music vibes toward the end of our meal. Service was excellent. This was probably the best restaurant week in PVD I've had in years. Go visit Circe! read more
