We have been at the Cooperage American a year ago or longer since we live in San Francisco and make the trip to Walnut Creek which is 35 miles from The City only a few times a year. We strollled the Walnut Creek craft & arts market. There was a very kind young lady at a The Cooperage American booth who was sharing about her noting our "ABC Store from Hawai'i. She handed us a "free appetizer" at the resturant a few blocks away. It was 2 pm on a late September 2026 Saturday. We made our way to the restaurant and waited in the lobby for a few moments where the hostesses had their backs to my wife and me. After my wife headed to the ladies room, I waited a few more moments until one of the hostesses ask "have you been helped"? I replied "No". I waited for my wife to return before having us seated. We waited between 12-15 with no recognition from ANY wait team. Frustrated and ready to leave (1st time ever in 60 years of going to restaurants!) I got up and went to the hostess and shared we were going to leave a d was curious if they were short servers? We had not recieved any acknowledgement we were there after the hosteess Sophia kindly seated us. Finally, our late lunch menu was down to less than 13 minutes since the "brunch" ended at 2:30 pm. Tiffany quickly jumped our rescue! Bravo! She is a hospitality and restaurant professional with 25+ years experience and about 3 years at The Cooperage American. My wife and I ordered Arnold Palmers. She order the French Dip with truffles fries. I ordered the Huevous Rancheros which was very good Our "free appetitizer" was the delicious Tuna Tartare. Oh, man. I wanted to love this place, I really did. Last night, I ordered a French dip with a side of soup, an Arnold Palmer and crème brûlée. To be honest, I was stoked off my ass to be able to have it DoorDashed to my hospital room to eat my first significant meal in days since I've been here. The brûlée was super tasty, with fresh fruit on top and great texture. I only wish the rest of the meal had followed suit. I mean, it may have, but I didn't receive half of what I ordered :( The Arnold Palmer was a no-show, which was a huge bummer because, for whatever reason, that sounded like the best thing in the world yesterday. I'm reckon it was just an honest mistake. The staff at Cooperage are human, after all. Speaking of no-shows, go ahead and add my soup to the "Missing Dinner" reward money posters. This one really hurt because A) I originally had to pay a modest charge to upgrade my side, and B) Iam an incorrigible and shameless slut for soup, Lastly, when they packed the food, they put a pickle spear in the same container as the sandwich. Normally this is, like, my reminder that there is good in this world. However last night it was as if they dumped half of the jar of pickle juice over the entire bottom of the container, then put the sandwich on top of it. The result? Soggy, inedible sandwich roll bottoms. It was the ruin of two of my favorite things: pickles and carbs. I wouldn't be averse to possibly trying Cooperage again in the future, but paying over $50 to only recoup $16 in credits for a meal in which only the dessert came out ok was a definite disappointment. read more

Came in to try their new lunch specials, great idea by me. Ordered the French Dip and it was very tasty; meat was tender, cheese was perfectly melted and the jus wasn't overly salty. Service was attentive and everything was clean and comfortable. Absolutely could watch a football game here and not think twice about the decision. See you soon Cooperage. read more

Called the restaurant for last minute reservations for Father's Day. They were able to accommodate and this was totally appreciated. Nice open space dining area. A separate bar area. We were seated in the back room which was comfortable and secluded. We were handed the brunch menu. Our server was pretty attentive. The food came pretty quickly. Chicken wings, green eggs and ham, and shaved Brussels sprouts for starters were very good. The Brussels sprouts with the egg was an interesting and delicious combination. The family enjoyed their entrees a lot. We had the chicken and waffles, mushroom omelette, prime rib Benedict, huevos rancheros, steak and eggs and the short rib hash. The hash was not as expected because it came out looking more like a stew than hash and a bit dry but everything else was good. The entrees were generously portioned. The kiddos had the chicken tenders and the Mac and cheese. Overall an enjoyable dining experience. We'll have to visit again to try the regular menu items next time. read more

I recently attended a birthday party at The Cooperage in Walnut Creek, and it was the perfect place to celebrate! The party was held in their private back room with about 32 guests. It was a wonderful experience. We had a set menu that started with some delicious appetizers, including creamy burrata cheese, shredded Brussels sprouts with bacon, and a fresh garden salad. For my main dish, I chose the steak and fries, and it was cooked perfectly! Others at the table ordered the salmon and pasta, and everything looked absolutely amazing. I honestly wish I could have tried every dish! The service was outstanding. The wait staff was attentive throughout the evening, making sure our water pitchers were always full, drinks were never empty, and plates were cleared quickly. I had the margarita, which was refreshing and the perfect addition to the meal. The chef even stopped by to say hello, which was such a nice personal touch. The attention to detail, delicious food, and excellent service made this a memorable celebration. This is definitely a place I'll be coming back to. I actually enjoyed the interior of this restaurant. It made me feel like I was outside, even though we were seated inside. You would have to see it to understand. This was our first time in this restaurant. Almost everything was perfect and we have fond memories of the prior places in this space. Service was excellent. Very friendly, fast and attentive. The food was great with one drawback. My father-in-law liked his fried chicken and mashed potatoes. My wife and mother-in-law loved their salads. My burger was mostly awesome, cooked well and great flavor. The issue was with the grilled onions on it. They were mainly onion skin that somehow got left in the batch used. Unfortunately that ended up being a chewy, stringy mess that I ungraciously had to pull out of my mouth. Other than that, everything was great and we will be back to try other things. read more

This is a great new version of The Cooperage in downtown Walnut Creek. We came for dinner on a perfect spring day and loved the open air concept that offers a seamless transition between inside and outside with the sliding glass walls in good weather. The large, attractive space felt like it could accommodate a lot of different seating preferences. They delivered on friendly service and great food in pretty large portions. I'd highly recommend our appetizers of Garlic Cheese Bread and Green Eggs & Ham, the latter being a clever pesto twist on deviled eggs. The Ahi Burger which I ordered for my main with a side of fresh vegetables was perfectly prepared and delectable. We sat on the bar side which was empty so we got a nice booth. Even thought it was empty the service was kind of slow because the poor bartender was making drinks and servicing us. We ordered the chicken and waffles and prime rib Benedict. The chicken and waffle was not bad. It was a unique wheat tasting waffle. The chicken was a thigh and juicy but needed seasoning. The prime rib Benedict was good but also needed seasoning. The potato's were hard. It almost tasted like they were undercooked but burnt at the same time. Parked in the shopping mall and walked over. The two garage doors were open so be prepared for it to be a tad chilly at night. We arrived an hour before closing, they ran out of fries! So they asked if we wanted a salad or up-charge of onion rings. The chicken was good but I've had juicer chicken. I didn't try the fish and onion rings but I was told the fish was good. The pear bread pudding was missing vanilla ice cream but they were also out of vanilla ice cream. 3.5 stars for not asking about the fish and chips for a substitute but deliver onion rings and not disclosing they were out of vanilla ice cream after delivering the pear bread pudding with chocolate ice cream. I decided to have a Bloody Maria to start and it was perfect. Shaved Brussel sprout appetizer with poached egg and crispy bacon was a delicious way to start our anniversary lunch. My husband ordered the fish tacos and I decided to try the lobster risotto. So GOOD! I look forward to coming back and exploring more of their menu. We were the first hungry eaters to arrive at the restaurant, and I was happy to see that the restaurant slowly started to fill while we were there. At the end of our meal, our server surprised us by bringing two glasses of champagne, a nice addition to our special day. High prices bring high expectations. Dinner a couple days before xmas. Three of our four meals came out barely warm (fried chicken and mashed potatos, steak and frites ). Fries were soggy, not crisp. Calamari was smothered in heavy breading/ batter. The steak was ok, the pot pie was great. Fried chicken was flavorful although cold. Server was great. All of them were so good, but the deviled eggs (green eggs and ham) was by far my favorite. Whatever that sauce/jam is, it is DELIGHTFUL! I could have eaten a million more of those. It was sooo good. For my entree, I wanted to get a fried chicken sandwich but I had just ate one the night before haha. I ended up ordering the salmon and it was really delicious. They cooked it medium rare for me and it was cooked perfectly. The cooked onions and carrots on the side was also so good. It was the perfect size for me for sure. I also ended up ordering another cocktail and got the empress gin drink. I love Empress gin, so it was perfect. I enjoyed it a lot! For dessert, I can't not order creme brulee so my brother in law and I ended up splitting that. It was so good! Came with some berries on top, too. Not fresh and it looked like it had been boiled or microwaved defrosted or something first then battered and fried. It was bizarre. Any fast food place chicken is better. As I waited I noticed a group was frustrated at the host because they weren't given a table. 40+ minutes went by before we approached the host and they quickly sat us down. I'm not sure why they didn't text us to let us know a table was ready after waiting so long or call our name. The burrata was tasty. The wedge salad was not a full wedge? (Weird) The steak & frites were barely warm. Steak was lacking flavor but cooked exactly medium rare. While leaving the restaurant we noticed a group still waiting that arrived around the same time as us! Yes, the place is nice and is a viable option if you can't get into original joes. Really wanted to like this place but it just wasn't great. The calamari starter didn't feel fresh out of the fryer as it was only Luke warm. Same for the fries that came with our dishes. The pork chop had good flavor but was a bit on the dry side. The positive is the service was good, fairly attentive except for the water refill, which always needed asking. The location is good with free parking at the mall and music wasn't too loud. Won't be first option when dining in WC with so many good options around but won't count it out either. read more
