I hired Phil Varco from Varco Windows and Doors to replace all of the windows in my home. It was a…read morebig job because my home is almost 100 years old with the original windows, and they were in really bad shape. I also needed a new back door, storm doors, and French doors leading out to my deck. Phil Varco came out to my home to meet with me and give me an estimate for the job. I also got quotes from several other companies. I was pleasantly surprised with the quote from Varco Windows and Doors, as it was reasonable and below the other estimates I received. The products offered by Varco Windows and Doors were of top quality and included a manufacturer warranty. It was also clear to me that Phil was a man of integrity and honesty as compared to the other salesman from the other window companies I met with. I was extremely pleased with the job Varco Windows and Doors provided. This company exceeded my expectations from start to finish. There were no surprises or hidden costs, and the men got the job done within the timeframe promised. My new windows are beautiful! I am extremely satisfied with Varco Windows and Doors, and I highly recommend this company for all of your door and window needs.

This is a few years late but I did want to hold out and see how well the windows and sliding door…read moreperformed during the winter / summer. Well, they're performing great. Prior to my house had an old single pane with storm window setup. The biggest problem was actually just not being able to open them all up as my house was a foreclosure and the company they hired painted over everything and I do mean everything. I scraped away what I could and got the windows to open a reasonable amount. Anyway, the breaking point was over time the expansion contraction made some cracks massive, caused breaks, etc and I had ran out of leftover panes and parts the previous homeowner had lying around in the shed. The whole ordeal was great with one side mention which I'll cover around the end and perhaps Phil can speak to it as well. But Phil was great, clear explanations and would always check in on and explain any questions we had. Installation was supposed to be two days but winter was coming in soon. Not sure if the installers were making good time and wanted to get it out of the way or if they didn't want me to deal with a cold house. Either way, they got it done in one day, one very long day. It was cold outside I told them they could have their lunch inside, they politely refused. After finishing their lunch they thanked me for the offer and then explained that if they did that, they would get acclimated and then when they go back out to work it would not be comfortable. I actually know that to be 100% true so told them I get it. Anyway at any questionable point the installers grabbed me and told me what was going on, what my options were, possible issues, etc. Most of these were actually pretty minor, but this told me the Varco installers cared enough about their work and my approval to loop me in. Good stuff. There were only two items which were a larger issue both had the same issue. The old windows were very old and over time water crept in and caused wood rot at the sill. Also I don't think the original installed used pressure treated wood, or it was that old, which is standard where wood meets concrete/brick/stone/etc. The sill still gets wrapped around with vinyl on the exterior side, the actual structure didn't have rot. The installers still wanted to let me know about this which was good to know but as they had solid structure and showed me, I was okay with them proceeding. By the way, that was a remnant of old construction, new construction doesn't even have that bit as we've come a long way with energy efficiency. They removed all the rot they could and continued on with the job. There was a concern that something broke offloading from shipping. Phil and I were concerned, Phil not so much, he had an idea it was a flange but wasn't 100% sure what it was. He called and found out they shipped the sliding door with a nailing flange for some reason or another. At my house, it's surrounded by brick and on concrete, a nailing flange isn't needed ... or going to work - unless you want an ugly sliding door installation. Now here's the side mention. Des Plaines follows the IRC (International Residential Code) and the IRC is applicable for all single / double family homes. Then there's mentions by the Illinois State Fire Marshall and the NFPA (Nat'l Fire Protection Association). It says you want an egress with a minimum opening of basically 5.7 feet squared in any living area when the primary means of exit is not accessible. I won't bore you with the minimum height and window requirements as there's more to this which I hope Phil and or someone at Varco can explain. I had several quotes of which I believe two mentioned egress rules and presented me with vertical sliding windows which would meet egress. I mentioned this to Phil and he said he could do vertical but that means something else. I didn't quite get it then, I still don't get it, but I wanted horizontal windows as my in-window fans and AC are built for horizontal windows, not vertical. So I didn't understand why but as Des Plaines cuts the permits and checks the work I figured if it was a hard and fast rule they would let me know. So far so good and only a couple houses in the neighborhood have vertical sliding replacement windows. Still, these codes are for our safety so I asked the installers how to remove the window, he showed me how to do it for cleaning and removing one panel / pane entirely. That's easy enough and gives me about 4 feet squared. I'm short of 6' a bit above 200 lbs. TLDR in a fire if you need to remove more, choose life, break it if you have to :-) Oh one honorable mention, its always good to have some coffee, soda, juice or something on hand for the installers because that's how I do and they went hard on completing it in one day, I had to do my part :-D

Yeah, sure, they look nice, but on windy days, I had to close the windows out of fear they would turn into sails and get ripped from the frames. On rainy days, I was unable to leave a few windows slightly open in order to get some air movement (casement windows open from top to bottom, if you are unfamiliar with the term). When the windows were open, people could easily see the windows were open (hey, I live in Chicago, we worry about crime here in the big bad city). Worse, as the house settled, window after window became unusable. I finally made the decision to replace the casement windows with double hung, and after I spoke to some other firms -- including one that sent over the most "salesy," gimmick-laden salesperson I ever encountered, you've probably seen their TV ads (I had to ask him, repeatedly, to leave, and I needed an hour to get him to go, truly awful) -- I was delighted I made a call to Chicago Window Guys. The owner, Russ, was the salesperson who came to my house. Now we're talking...I like doing deals with the final decision maker. His approach was what I expected: He was on time and got straight to business. No salesy talk, no gimmicks, he simply asked a few questions, took some measurements, and made notes as I explained what I wanted and what windows were to be replaced. He explained a few options to me, answered my questions...we hammered out the price, and cut the deal right then and there. When I'm treated right, I'm a salesperson's dream. He got the deal, and I sent a check a few days later after we finalized the contract. He sent his measurement guy a few days later, he took detailed measurements, made a few more notes, and sent the order to be fulfilled. Now, this is part of the reason why CWG won the deal: they make their windows onsite, here in the Chicago area. They are not a reseller. They are not a distributor for someone else. They fabricate their own product. That cuts out the middleman, to use an overused cliche, which means they offer a superior product at less than what other resellers charge. Two months later, my windows were done, and after false start due to rain (not CWG's fault, obviously), they installed the entire order in one day. That's 7 windows upstairs, 10 windows downstairs, plus the sliding door in the master bedroom, and the sliding door and transom in the family room. One day. The crew was on time, got right to work, and did a fantastic job. They even managed to take down my blinds, then reinstalled them when the work was done. They didn't have to do that, but they did. The cleaned up their work, sealed the windows on the inside and outside...and left. Absolutely first class. I am 100% satisfied with the work and the final product. Russ's crew delivered a great product and provided great service. That salesy, gimmick-laden company, by the way, initially quoted three times what I paid CWG. If you want to be annoyed and ripped off, go with the guys on TV. If you want a quality product at a fair price, go with Chicago Window Guys.

He came to my townhouse to give me an estimate to replace five windows. He was in my house 20 minutes threw out a number to me and wasn't even going to write it down in a proper estimate. When I asked him if he would put it in writing, he scribbled it on his brochure. I went to his website to find out what I would actually be getting because his brochure didn't say it and there was no information that I could find that would tell me what I would be getting for the dollar amount he scribbled on his brochure. I later followed up with an email with additional questions and he did not respond. I honestly didn't expect him to but I wanted to see if he would. Way too concerned about reviews and not actually providing customer service. Very happy I did not hire him!!

My experience working with All Star was great from start to finish and exactly what you would hope for in a contractor. Dave responded quickly to evaluate the project, he was attentive to my concerns and what I needed, and he presented me with a range of quality and price options. Based on my research and competing quotes, the cost for my chosen option was reasonable. I wanted better windows and I knew they would take a while longer to manufacture. Unfortunately, we were up against a deadline with winter coming and weren't able to sneak the job in before the weather turned consistently bad. It was definitely worth waiting for though. On the day of installation, the crew arrived on time, were very professional, and they did a fantastic job. I would definitely hire All Star again for another project based on price, quality, and service. After selecting the quote for the windows we wanted to get done, a down payment was made and the windows were ordered. They came in a few weeks later and two of their team members came out to install them in the morning. Everything was done quickly and professionally with care. After the install, I had a question about one of the windows since it looked like there was a small crack at the top corner and they sent someone out to look at it right away. It turned out it was just some glue residue that was attached on the inside of the window that made it look like a crack and was easly scraped off with a razor blade. So will update again once we go through the replacement process... I was trying my best to avoid having to write this review but since I cannot get any updates or response pertaining to a quality warranty issue with my exterior door window frame, I felt I had no other choice but to share my experience that I have had with McCann Windows and Exteriors. I purchased 2 ALBANY exterior doors from McCann back in June of 2024. In October of 2025 I noticed that the window frame on one of the doors had shifted and instead of a uniform space around the window frame the bottom right portion now was flush against door frame with a portion overhanging the door frame. I contacted McCann in October and that is when my now almost year long odyssey began. I have spoken via email, text and voice messages with at least four different representatives including the owner, the production manager, a project manager, service tech and others who seem to all follow the same playbook....they apologize for the delay, promise to get back to me with an update and then nothing. I have had to continually go back to them for an update, a status, anything to put this behind me. The last I heard from them was on June 4th, 2026. ..Waiting 10 months to get a resolution is not what I call good customer service. During this period I received regular marketing emails and texts talking about how they treat all their customers as family and appreciate us, but based on my experience this has not been the case. The true measure of a company is how they treat their customer after the sale and specifically how they handle any issues. The doors have a 10 year warranty and specifically a section pertaining to door glass frames. Apparently it may take me that long to get a solution. I am not looking for any more apologies I just want a straight answer. I have all the emails, texts and occasional voice mails that they have sent me and plan to provide regular updates on my experience until it is resolved.
