We found Mike on our local Facebook group, many people recommended him and we do too now. We did a total pool/backyard renovation and also added a spa. He was very transparent through the whole process and was genuine. His communication was great and always responded. He worked with our budget and didn't try to upsell anything. As other reviewers have noted, they were great during the job (for the most part), but after they would not return our calls. It's unfortunate because we really liked Mike personally. They didn't finish our wall properly, came to repaint it but after talking to other professionals, have found that it wasn't installed correctly, so it will continue to happen. After trying to reach out many many times, they didn't admit any wrong doing, nor did they offer to fix it without costing us additional. We don't have the money to fix it and we paid a good amount of money to have our yard completed by them. read more

I have to say our pool was worth the wait! We signed our contract with Patrick on 02/19/2020 and received our final inspection on 08/04/2020. We did not think it would take this long, but we are very happy and grateful for the quality of our pool. We love every aspect of the design and material used. We chose Masterpiece Pools many years ago to install our salt chlorinated pebble-tech pool & spa. We have been very happy with the design, construction, and lasting quality of the pool equipment. Recently one of the spa lights wouldn't function and the owner (Mike) had his employee (Pat) come out and complete the service call quickly & reasonably priced. Mike's team is currently constructing a pool and spa nearby and his workers have caused damage to one of our cars. Mike took no responsibility for the incident and has not been forthcoming with providing me the necessary insurance information to process a claim. To further complicate the matters, Mike's onsite foreman, Pat, takes on a passive role and has only stated that he can not help me because he is not the owner of the company. First of all Let me say that I have always heard good things about Masterpiece Pools in the past. On the AH Buzz people always say what a good job they do Etc. So, I decided to give Masterpiece Pools a call to see if they could come out and give me an estimate on replacing broken spa tiles with stacked stone and to fix my spa spillover. I made an appointment on a Tuesday for them to come out on the following Friday at 9am. I waited for an hour and a half before calling and asking why their guy didn't show up. She apologized, and called the guy and said that John got stuck on a job site, then asked if he could come out on Saturday at 9am. I agreed, and got up early Saturday morning, here I am 10:30 still waiting, no phone call, no email, no message, for a pool guy that I assume is going to be a "no show" for the second time. I wouldn't recommend this company for the simple fact the guy wasn't courteous enough to tell me that he wasn't able to make the appointment, or that he didn't want the job, or whatever his reason was for not showing up on both occasions. read more

Mike's company did a great job on my pool, it went up in 6 weeks as promised. I was not happy about the extra bill of $1100 for additional cement not included in the original price as I did not ask for any additional cement. The initial price was discounted, so I paid the extra amount. I agree with the other reviews that it was very difficult to get them to come out again when there was an issue. For that reason, I lowered my rating to 3 stars. I left a message Wednesday morning to get an estimate for pool cement repair, but still no return call. It amazes me how they get any business at all. read more

Masterpiece put in my pool, spa and rockscape/waterfall/slide . They did a fantastic job, all the subcontractors were skilled and completed on schedule and within contract. I made a correction to the heigth of spa rocks- which caused some demo to correct. No problem- they said I have to be happy with it. Mike, the owner, is hands-on, honest and a nice guy. A great experience and I highly recommend Masterpiece. read more

We had Masterpiece come out and give us a quote for a pool remodel. Five weeks went by and we still haven't received a quote. I called the company to inquire; they said they would call me back and never did. I wouldn't go into business with someone who can't even do the bare minimum. read more

My re-plaster job started find then about a year after a discoloring started to show up. Now the pool looks like it has grey spots all over it. So far masterpiece has been unresponsive at best. I call, promises to look into it are made and then nothing, no return calls at all. This has been going on for a year with no resolution in sight. After consulting others, it's apparent I need to re-plaster the pool again. These guys did a pool refurb for me a long time ago. At the same time, they added a new spa. I now have a crack in my pool, near where the new spa was built. I've been told it is very possible that the spa contributed to the crack. I know we have earthquakes and land movement, but the original pool was built in the mid-1960's and never had ANY cracks before. Worse, these guys do not return phone calls. They're great while a job is in process, and they want/need your money, but the followup afterward is very, very bad -- might as well say it is nonexistent. Because it is. I don't recommend these guys, there has to be somebody in this business that actually returns phone calls. read more

It started off great. Mike came recommended by a good friend, and we spent 2 hours with him talking about the design options for our pool. Mike promised to have a first design ready the following week. Then nothing..... We contacted Mike at least 8 times, on his cell and through his office. Mike does not call back. Instead of telling us that he is too busy, or cannot do the job for some other reason, Mike and Masterpiece don't have the basic decency to even call us back to let us know where we stand. This is not a company you want to to use. The obviously completely disrespect their possible customers, and lack business and human decency. read more

It's taken me too long to write this... I would never recommend Masterpeice Pools. I had a pool built years back and within a few months my stack stone around spa where the spa water overspills into the pool all the stones were coming off. I had to repeatedly call, they finally call back after 100 calls, send someone out and repair it. Within a month, same issue. You have to repeatedly call them with no response. So for years half my stone is off because they didn't do it right and wouldn't fix. I just had two local pool contractors out for estimates and before me saying anything both contractors said the same thing. The water spill over was not built correctly causing water to get behind the rocks causing them to pop off and second issue the correct adhesive wasn't used to apply the rocks. For my work I'm in new construction homes daily. Anytime my clients have said they are getting a pool I let them know of my nightmare with Masterpeice. Glad to say I have steered several people away from going forward with bids from Masterpeice. This company has no integrity, no customer service after they have your money. It's clear this isn't a isolated issue as other reviews say the same thing. Save yourself agony and go with someone else. Very disappointed in how they can rip homeowners off and on to the next job they go. read more

I was really beginning to think it was me, but after reading these reviews i know see this company wants your job, but doesn't want anything to do with the follow up. i called twice and text at least 3 times (always go response until there was an issue). i have an Anthony in ground filtration system with pop up filters. When they redid my pool they taped them, which i assumed was fine but they obviously did all the work over the top and the pebble tech got in to all the crevices so the filters would not pop up. I had a big concern in the fact that if the filter came up and water and air were pushed thru these and they didn't pop up long term would be some huge issues. i never ever got a call back on this huge problem or was it address. Pat came out and started on the pool equipment then "had to leave to meet his wife" and never came back or return ed my calls either. My pool lights after a few months look rusted, the grout started coming out about 6 mos ago and now my heater smells like gas 50 feet away. I was given alot of excuses, and i feel as a woman i was treated like "it looks pretty, what do you want". i WANT MECHANICLLY SOUNDS. i would not recommend this company unfortunately. read more

Mike did a great job on our pool and spa back in 2003. Had them back over the summer to acid wash and repaint the faux rocks. But, good luck getting Mike or Patrick or Ron to call you back when you tell them there is a problem with their work. No, I would not recommend them to anyone. read more

We are almost done with our new pool build with Masterpiece and I've been itching to share our great experience but wanted to be prudent and wait til it was done in case a "gotcha" came up. We did have a "gotcha" but it was from the city of Pasadena, not by the hands of Masterpiece. And Mike went way above and beyond to fix the problem with the city, acting as a GC not just a PB (pool builder). The problem was with our perimeter walls which isn't part of his pool build, but he really worked hard with the city and his fencing subs to get us through the issue. It could have cost us an outrageous amount of unexpected costs and involved surveyors, structural engineers, angry neighbors, etc. if it weren't for Mike's efforts. My husband and I find Mike and Ron to be stand up people, reliable, honest and very skilled. They do high quality work and are easy to work with and trust. All of Mike's employees and subs have been friendly, considerate, skilled/artistic, clean and sincerely dedicated to Mike. As with all construction projects you have to be a bit patient. They're busy and you have to expect the unexpected. But they're not going to let you down and they haven't made us wait a long time for return calls. The hard work we put into evaluating pool builders has paid off. We hit the jackpot with Mike and Ron. read more
