The service was good but the food was horrible I got chilaquiles and they were made so poorly and the presentation didn't even look, right. They should probably google what they look like. And yes the taste was also off. I did grow up eating this food, and I've gotten this dish in many restaurants since and they've all tasted good, but these were just the worst. Don't get me wrong. We've seen this place and wanted to give it a try. The exterior and interior have a cool design. Our friends also recommended it, so we went together (party of 7). They forgot to place the order of Herb Salmon, so that came after everybody had mostly finished. When it did come, my sister wasn't very impressed. They didn't give it to us for free, but in the meantime, they gave us truffle fries. Later they also gave us two free desserts. The fries and desserts were $2 less than what we paid for the salmon, so we were happy. The Truffle Fries (2/5) were fresh but ok. My sister's friend loved them though. The Burrata salad (2/5) was also not the best I've had, but it really complimented the string, rich flavor of the Brussel Sprouts (4.5/5). I love all Brussel sprouts but these were in a unique sauce and pretty good. For my meal, I ordered the Crab Stuffed Mushroom Skillet (3/5) and they were better the longer they had time to sit. The S'mores Cheesecake (4/5) was delicious. The crust was thick and dense and scrumptious. I loved the different textures of each layer. The Blondie Brownie (1/5) was popular with the table but I didn't like it. Probably because it had chocolate chips, which I'm not fond of. Someone really like the chocolate ice cream on it. I don't know how I've never been to this spot before. We walked in around 8pm on a Wednesday night and it was too busy. We sat down at the bar and were greeted right away. Two different bartenders helped us. We ordered margaritas and they were both delish. I ordered the Brussels to start and they were amazing! For my entree I chose the Masters Burger with truffle fries. The fries were so crispy and perfect! The burger was cooked just the way I requested and tasted fantastic. My husband ordered the wings, but he wasn't happy with the portion size. The bartenders were friendly and attentive which his a rarity these days. We were happy with the customer service provided. I came here with a large group and every single person enjoyed their meal - that never happens! I loved the meat and cheese appetizer and my friends loved their chicken parmesean and chicken piccata. Honestly, the cocktail was probably my least favorite. I was thrilled that they had a caipirinha on the menu but it wasn't right. I can't place it but it was heavy on the ice and light on flavor. Would I recommend it and go back? Yes! I would go back in part because we had great service. A woman, who may have been an owner, came by at the end and was very funny and friendly. We had a lovely and safe visit here. The masters burger with truffle fries was delicious and I'd order again. The fish tacos were inconsistent with the table next to ours (MUCH smaller) and they forgot the pineapple slaw. They welcome dogs on the inside of the restaurant which sounds odd but it's all open air and was great because we had two bulldogs with us and it was much cooler than many other places we drove by. Good selection of local draft beer. I'd come back for a burger, beer and shade. The staff was all very friendly (love the dogs!) and safe with their masks. Will try again. read more

They mentioned that they were a bit short staffed but honestly, the service was quicker than any restaurant that's fully staffed. A terrific bar with an excellent selection of whiskeys, but I was disappointed in the crabcakes and salad. The crabcakes were bland and the sauce only made matters worse. The salad was heavy on the stems: clearly dumped from a plastic bag with little care given to preparation. When you're paying this much, it's a little insulting to just have bag spinach thrown on a plate. It's so much cheaper to simply make better food at home. I guess the one good thing I can say is the crab was real (not krab) because it had two fingernail-sized chunks of crab-shell in it. I was really looking forward to the experience, but it's been a few years since I've been here, and I remember Masters being much better before. Tony! What a fantastic bartender/server! Just had to throw that shoutout out there!!! Anywho, came here with my bestie for a little girls night dinner and drinks. Both of us hadn't been here before so we thought it would be perfect. The atmosphere was perfect and trendy so it was a great vibe. We both sat at the bar and ordered our drinks. She got an Oregon trail and I really wanted the Oaxaca to Shanghai but they were sold out so I got the Alamo. We were both very happy with our decisions since the drinks were strong, aromatic and very instagramable. Food wise, we got the vegan cheeseboard, Brussel spouts, truffle fries......and more drinks. All which were good but the sprouts needed more seasoning to which I added more salt. The vegan cheeseboard tasted real which was totally scary but a good thing! Long story short, a great place for drinks and bites but definitely on the pricey side. So come with an open mind and open wallet. read more

Master's for me is hit or miss. The location and the space are great and their cocktails are wonderful. The service and food are sometimes good and sometimes not. My kids took me here for brunch on Father's Day. We made reservations and got a great table. They brought us water immediately and then we waited. We sat there for some time before a waitress showed up to take our order. She was very pleasant and took our drink and food orders but the wait was rough and there appeared to be plenty of wait staff flying around and past our table before one actually stopped. The drinks were really good, we had Bloody Marys and the Coffee Cocktail...so great. Our food arrived and my Steak & Eggs Benedict with potatoes was wonderful. My daughter's mini Belgium Waffles were great and my daughters' chicken and waffles were solid, not spectacular. Unfortunately, my son's Master's breakfast was a bit of a mess. His bacon was truly undercooked and his potatoes were dry and devoid of seasoning. He ate one of the bacon strips and told me he didn't want the other one as it wasn't cooked enough. I told the waitress and she took the one strip and returned 10 mins later with it cooked more. He ate it and that's fine but I thought it odd that they didn't 1) give him two back, 2) apologize, 3) offer him anything else or 4) have the manager come over and say something. Any of those options would have been nice. Now you can tell from my other reviews that I am a pretty positive person and not high maintenance but I expect a certain level of service and quality and when its not met I have an issue. This isn't the only time this has happened here so I think I can confidently say they have some issues to work out. I can recommend sitting at the bar and enjoying a cocktail but I am not sure I would trust them again with an important meal. read more

My wife and I went last night and brought our dog. The service was excellent, and the food was equally amazing. They even brought a bowl of water for our dog without us even asking. The catch of the day was ahi tuna, so I had the Catch Sando (catch of the day fish sandwich) and my wife had the Catch of the Day plate. Both were amazing! The potato chips that came with my sandwich were perfectly crispy, and the risotto on the plate dish was incredible. With the risotto was also charred broccolini, which added some excellent texture to the dish. For dessert, we had the peanut butter cheesecake, which was a great way to end the meal. Looking forward to coming back! I NEED to try the Brussels sprouts and truffle fries! read more

Friday afternoon around 5pm. We headed specifically to Masters for some drinks and appetizers. We were surprised to find a very bar-like menu. We questioned the offerings and were told by the bartender that the menu changes periodically and is somewhat seasonal. I want to say that our first trip here a few years back, after it had recently opened, had us at the time, clambering for more. This time there was literally nothing on the menu that intrigued us. We drank our cocktails and quickly split to find more action and more inviting options around town to tantalize our senses. I had traveled up the coast about an hour earlier and saw other bustling bars and restaurant services happening along PCH (that's Pacific Coast Highway for you non-locals) only to arrive at Masters with only a very small handful (about 8 total) of patrons. Our not very attentive server at the bar seemed to hover closest to the kitchen; and because of the plexiglass partition at the server station, we were unable to catch the bartenders attention without shouting and making an unnecessary scene. I honestly tried to get a water for a solid 15 minutes after our first cocktails arrived. I even waved with both arms above my head as she looked beyond my waving that was making her bob and weave to see whatever it was she was looking at beyond me. The only person's attention I grabbed was the manager or owner that was doing a creepy gazing from behind a stanchion in his office area that overlooked the dining floor. We were honestly disappointed that Masters didn't keep our attention beyond about 30 minutes that evening. This place has a really cool ambiance to it with the plants, open windows, wood textures and lighting; it seems relatively new. There are TV's on the bar side of the building and larger tables on the opposite side of the place. The staff is really attentive, patient, accommodating, and showed excellent teamwork which helped elevate our customer experience as well. Here's our order: Brussel sprouts: perfectly seasoned and cooked. crispy outside, tender inside dry rub wings with buffalo sauce on the side (comes with ranch): texture could've been crispier, however loved the flavor and dip options. Master burger/Impossible burger: how can you go wrong with a burger? the truffle fries were also PERFECT - came out fresh and had perfect crisp to fluffy inside ratio. I will say the impossible burger was a little too peppery for me. When my family and I were passing by and searching for a lunch spot, this came up. Upon entering, I immediately noted that the yelp photos made this place look more grand. In person, it looked a lot bigger but actually had more of a laid-back beachy vibe. I also noticed that the noise level was high and made it hard for us to hear each other. We ordered the street tacos, fish tacos, black bean and quinoa burger, masters burger, and two kids meals: chicken tenders and mac 'n cheese. After sampling a bite of everything, I came to the conclusion that I loved their fries the best. You'd think that fries are hard to mess up, but I've had bad fries before. Theirs were thinly cut and seasoned just right with the right amount of crispiness. Anyway, enough about the fries. To be honest, everything else was just average. I cleaned off my street tacos because I was starving. The carnitas were a bit dry for my taste. The quinoa and bean burger was my least favorite. It had an overpowering sharp bean flavor that left a weird aftertaste. The chicken tenders were truly tender but the exterior was a little too dry and crispy. Our table was ready and our server greeted us promptly. The cocktails were approved as being good - Painkiller, Zombie, and Paloma. The soda machine was having issues so the Pepsi's were on the house (low carbonation, then fixed). The burger, crab burger, burrata salad, wedge salad, and chicken piccata were all liked. The steak sandwich was heavy on the bell pepper and jalapeño, and little steak in sight (fail!). The poke was another fail as they may have forgotten to add soy - under seasoned. One salad was forgotten and arrived after the main. This was corrected by providing our birthday celebrator with the option to order 3 desserts, not just one. The bread basket is a popular choice, the monte cristo is one of the best around, and the waffles are incredible. Service is always great, but when it gets packed it can be a bit slow. This is a modern, fun place in downtown Oceanside. It's spacious, with an open air feel. The booths are big and very comfy! Prices are abit high for burgers and salads, but come early and save during happy hour (all evening on Wednesday) The Philly steak egg rolls were a delicious surprise with lots of meat and cheese! Masters Kitchen and Cocktail has been around for only 4 years but its history is much deeper. Originally opened as a drag race car shop decades ago, Masters has converted nicely to a restaurant. Service was quick and friendly and we got our cocktails right away. It certainly didn't hurt that the hostess was also our server. Chanel was on it from the first hello. All the food we ate was delicious. The Pei Muscles were clean and plentiful, and the broth was a mix of chorizo, spicy tomato, fennel and jalapeno. It had a great kick to it. The Roasted Beet Salad was very good, and the Watermelon and Heirloom Tomato salad was over the top - an excellent blend of sweet and salty, with the watermelon, the sunflower seeds and the feta cheese - Very very good. We also had the chef's fish of the day which was a seared jumbo shrimp served with a risotto and vegetable. The half rack baby back ribs did not disappoint, and also very good was the Free Range Airline Chicken Breast with a beet and goat cheese risotto. The risotto came out as a reddish pink color because of the beets. It looked odd but it tasted delicious. The desert menu is also worth checking out. Masters did not disappoint. This place really seems to care about serving quality food. While they have some large screen TVs, I would not call this place a sports bar of any kind, as it just seems to be acceptable that most restaurants these days (of this caliber) will have a TV somewhere in the dining room or at the very least in the bar. Happy Hour Monday's! The Masters Burger was very good. The highlight was the aioli that's served alongside. If you need more (and you should), just ask. The burger is made to order with white cheddar cheese and the toppings in a side stack. The pink pickled onions were my favorite. My burger was a bit over-cooked (brown vs. pink), but overall it was the perfect size and the bun complimented it well. The burger usually comes with truffle fries, but I highly recommend you ask for the mashed potatoes instead. Probably the best mashed potatoes I've ever had at a restaurant. Thick-ish, smooth, flavorful, and overall excellent. There are also drinks on the Happy Hour Monday menu, like the Master and Mule, Moscow Mule, etc. read more

I've been wanting to try Masters for a year or so - unfortunately the service was surprisingly slow (not busy for a Saturday night all) and all of our meals were just very blah - not much in the way at of flavor. We ordered the Ahi Poke - this has very little flavor and was very plain. It definitely could have used a lot more flavor - the portion/amount was good though. The burgers - the cheddar cheese was flavorless, the bacon aioli was non existent as the beef was like a loaf - again, flavorless. The meatball sandwich looked delicious- but once again truly lacked in any real flavor. Our wine and beer (ordered when we were seated) didn't even come until we were more than 1/2 way done with our meal. Very disappointed. Definitely not worth the prices. read more

We have enjoyed Masters kitchen when they first opended. Prior to Covid. We went today and will probably be our last. The bartenders seemed to be professional and know what they are doing. But honestly. No personality. No small talk and I felt I was interrupting them asking for a refill. There were more employees than customers. My Tito's martini was good and my wife wine was fine. But there was no enthusiasm to help us. Know what I mean ? We ordered the crab stuffed mushrooms. These were terrible. Not hot ( just warm ) and dry. Obviously frozen store-bought. The tacos were ok but nothing I would go back for. You can swing a dead cat in Oceanside and find better tacos. Now I know why the place is empty most of the time. Damn.
