Once again a disappointment Ever since Cula ( not sure of spelling) owner/manager left its never been the same The price went up slightly which I get but the food has definitely gone downhill In one if the reviews a gentleman talks about the mussels n I wish I would have read that before I ordered them cause they were not good at all, they were barely open n cold, did send them back n thank his didn't get sick but just every time it's just not good Used to love the crab cakes n we have tried them a few times since the management change but just not good anymore, not crispy on the outside n lukewarm as well. I've ate here several times over the past 10 years. Needless to say its becoming fewer and far in between. I like the flaming cheese ( which they don't do on special occasions because of there limited menu). They have pretty good bread, unless its a busy night, then it seems they just fire one huge batch and use it all night. The Entrees are OK, a little pricey for the quality. If you love paying 5.95 for a store bought dessert than your in luck. I hope the people at Masters realize that they need to step it up, would feel bad if there already run down restaurant had a for sale sign in front of it! read more

I've been to the Masters several times as I have lived right next to it for the past three years. It has always been a quick "wanna grab lunch/dinner?" meal whenever someone is over or with my neighbors and I've never had a bad meal! What caused me to write this review, however, is two fold. First, I'm moving from the area soon and feel they deserved a review before I left and secondly, my graduation dinner there was AMAZING. I called for a reservation at about 1:30 pm on a Monday for 6 pm that evening. I knew a reservation wasn't required, but I wanted to give them a heads up that seven people would be coming of mixed ages. When we arrived 15 minutes early they were ready for us and set up a table in an area that was in the main dining area upstairs, but was private. Our waitress and host were fantastic all night. First bringing me my drink a huge celebratory glass (I'll attach a photo). Anyone who knows me knows I love Diet Coke so this was honestly the highlight of my day (getting my M.D... nah... getting a Diet Coke larger than my stomach can hold... YES PLEASE!). The host made sure our glasses were never empty, our plates were always removed and were replaced with fresh ones between courses (we ordered a LOT of food). The waitress answered all of the questions patiently and made small talk. We didn't feel rushed and the experience was fantastic. I think a lot of this service was because we had made a reservation, but the service has always been good on my other visits as well. The was good for everyone. We ordered stuffed mushrooms, par four, spinach and artichoke pockets, and shrimp cocktail - everything was great there. For entrees - One of my 75 year old grandmas got chicken kabob and won't stop talking about how good her meal was. My sister got chicken alfredo and loved it, although said it didn't heat up well as leftovers the next day. My dad got stuffed salmon and loved it. The rest of us got prime rib which was great, although I would have liked a little bit more au ju. In the past I've had the Chicken Piccata, French Dip, Fish and Chips, and a few other dishes I can't remember off hand but they were good. All in all, it pleased everyone young and old. The experience was great. The menu was broad enough to please everyone, but the quality of the food was not compromised because of how large the menu was. I would recommend making a reservation if you are celebrating something special because they went above and beyond to make the day special for me (and my family!). read more

Not what The Masters was years ago. Terrible service, felt like I was sitting in the middle of a huge bar. Very small servings. Appetizer, flaming sausage, only had 8 small slices on it. My husbands filet mignon was flat. Tasteless Prime rib had one teaspoon of AuJus. Salads had one tomato on them, and maybe half cup of lettuce. Mashed potatoes, were plain and not freshly made. Will not be going back. Better steak places, for the same price. read more

I would go back on maybe a less busy night or different time of year to see if anything is different. The service was a bit slow and the waitress was apologetic so that did make up for it considering she was doing the work of 2 people. The food was good. 2 perch dinners and those were really really good. Not coated in a thick breading it was just lightly pan fried and had a great light taste. 1 coconut shrimp dinner that was said to VERY good with the marmalade sauce of course I had the chicken Cesar salad and a french onion soup. My salad was great. I wish it had more croutons but other then that its was just right. I love soup and french onion is one of my favs and this one was yummy!! My slightly dirty martini was NOT great. It tasted very watered down but i didn't mention it since it took so long to get it in the first place. My BF and his parents had a nice relaxing time and enjoyed our experience there. I think it is one of their fav places and i would for sure go back with them again if they wanted, even if just for the soup. I think they could do a little better here but this older places with a slightly older crowd tend to stay the same for years and years. Don't let the name turn you off, "The Masters" is a golf-themed restaurant. My boyfriend & I visited on Thursday night. The service was good. We got the prime rib and lamb chops. They were both amazingly delicious!! We LOVED the food!! However, the singer was an assault on our ears. We thought we stumbled in on karaoke night, only to find out that they actually had a life performer. I found out that they only perform on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, just to know what night's not to come. The ambience was otherwise great, but hearing some of our favorite songs ruined was an unfortunate distraction to an otherwise great night. read more

Tell you what, everything you expect from a moderate restaurant is what you'd get here. Here is the one thing I noticed at this place that may make this my go to date night choice: Hardly any kids anywhere. I'm pretty sure that my kids were the only kids in the whole restaurant. When you are used to a environment where there are kids everywhere who don't know how to act in a restaurant, what I witnessed here was very different. The decor fits the theme of the restaurant well, and it's clean and well kept. The food was excellent, and my entire family seemed to enjoy it. The Masters is my husband's family's "go to" restaurant when it comes to a family dinner or celebration out. I've been in their back room for a private party and on the ground and second floor dining rooms as a regular patron. I heard one of the owners from Clawson Steakhouse bought the Masters recently and I noticed a price change as well as a few differences in the menu last week compared to previous visits. The prices are higher while the meals are still just mediocre. I normally order the prime rib (largest size because why not?!) and its always been okay to good. Never great. The price for the largest size cut is now around $25. I opted for a delmonico steak on our most recent visit and noticed that the salad that came with it was all iceberg, one kalamata olive, one (squishy) grape tomato and a slice of cucumber. The steak came with two button mushrooms and was a nice size, albeit thin, but there wasn't much to the tenderloin part. I ordered a twice baked potato to go with it that tasted like it had been baked more than twice with how dry it was. All that (which wasn't much) for $18. Not worth it, in my opinion. I'll continue to come back when family decides to have a party or dinner there but wouldn't choose it myself. read more

This place sucks. Have never been there before tonight. After being seated and getting water we sat for about 15 minutes until the table next to us was seated. We then proceeded to watch them get their drinks,meal,boxes,check and table reset before we got our meal. The excuse was " they didn't get appetizers". Same number of people by the way. Really disappointing as the menu looked really good. However apparently not worth it based on the service. Good luck if you decide to try this place. Have been going here for over 35 years for many different events, tonight I brought in 6 other guests and was greeted at the door by the owner and he was absolutely rude from the minute we walked in! He had no idea how to greet guests and make them feel welcome or appreciated! He made several rude comments until I finally asked him why he was being so rude to us. He clearly did not want our business. I'm 56 years old and never been treated like this at any restaurant! I'm giving this place 2 stars cause staff was nice and food was good. The owner clearly needs to stop his narcissistic attitude. I feel sorry for his employees. One of the ladies I was with said he was rude to her last time she went in too, so I guess he makes a habit of pissing off his customers. We won't be back. What a shame! read more

The Masters Restaurant in Madison Heights on 13 mile, near Dequindre, is one of those restaurants that is overlooked. It has a Golf motif, hence the Masters name and has been operating since 1983. You can go in and have drinks at the bar or a delicious meal either upstairs or down. Personally I like eating upstairs. I've had Fish and Chips, Lamb Chops, Steak and various other items. Everything has been delicious. Waitstaff is always courteous and helpful. Although we have reservations for Christmas Eve, we might have to pop in again sometime soon to check out a few more items on the menu. I'm salivating at the thought. read more

Menu item: BLACKENED TILAPIA seared with Cajun spices, served with Hollandaise $12.95. They call a few flecks of black pepper Cajun spices. Blackened, no way. Same color as the French fries and no Hollandaise. I was asked if I wanted a salad or soup. I chose the soup (seafood chowder), pretty good. I got the bill $13.95. The soup must have been extra. Had the most appalling experience at this restaurant. We have been here many times and have always enjoyed our meals and the atmosphere. Last night we were in the area and decided to stop in and listen to the entertainment and have a cocktail. ( 10:00 pm, resturant nearly empty) There were three in our group, two sat at the bar enjoying our drinks and the third stood by the piano player enjoying the music. The owner rudely came up and said that everyone in the party needed to order something and if we each didn't we all had to leave immediately! We tried to explain that two out of three had ordered two cocktails apiece, the third does not drink, and he had been tipping the piano player very generously. My wife and I have an unnatural affinity for this place. It is our favorite "date night" spot. Not entirely sure what it is about the place, as no singular element is amazing enough to grant a perfect rating, it's just how the experience adds up in its entirety. The Masters speaks to us, I guess. Something about the atmosphere is so soothing. The clientele is always a bit on the "older side" to put it mildly. We are in our mid-30's but we always feel like scrappy teenagers whenever we walk in there. The food has always been good. Not 5-star fare, but that is not the type of thing one goes here for. It is good comfort food, "old people food", plain and simple. But much better done than at any chain restaurant. Our favorites are the french onion soup, the fish & chips, the steak sandwich, and the snow crab legs. If you go there on your birthday they will bring you a jumbo-sized alcoholic beverage of your choice. We found this out accidentally a few years ago when we inexplicably wound up with a fishbowl-sized martini at our table. Have been back for several birthdays since. read more

We have long visited The Masters and had many family gatherings here. This past week we had our wedding reception here and as always they hit it out of the park. I have been eating there since they opened when I was much younger with my Parents. Their food has never disappointed. I was food poisoned with the Chicken Florentine that tasted like they cooked rotted chicken. The waitress took the item off our bill, and then lied and said she had asked us how the food was like they normally do after you have had a bite or two. My daughter looked at me and I her, as this particular waitress never came back and asked how it was. Not only was I disappointed with the food, but I highly resent the waitress lying as there was no need for such. My boyfriend took me on a date here last night. It was my first visit. It's so beautiful inside! We were met by the owner, Nick, who personally sat us at our table. Our server, Angelina, was extremely kind and took care of our every need. She was helpful with suggestions and our conversations with her were very jovial. The love piano entertainment was wonderful! We tried so much food, and it was all so very delicious! The Escargot was in a puffed pastry with garlic sauce, the shrimp cocktail was fresh with large pieces of shrimp, the crab cakes were seriously the best I've ever tasted! He had the Filet Mignon which melted like butter in your mouth, and I had the Sesame Ginger Salmon, which was tender, fresh, and delicious! We barely finished it off with their decadent Tiramisu drizzled in chocolate. I was in a very happy food coma! It was the best dinner I've had, and the most impeccable service I've seen or experienced, ever. I cannot wait to go back and dine here again! I felt like royalty! I read more

There was a bug in my greek salad. I asked for a sandwich instead. It had coleslaw and turkey. It looked better than it tasted.

I've driven by this restaurant and never stopped in. Today my boyfriend and I went there for lunch and I'm sorry to say I was very disappointed. I ordered the French Onion soup and a steak sandwich. My boyfriend got the fish and chips. My soup had maybe a tsp of onions in it. My God it's French Onion soup! The broth was tasty but I didn't order broth to eat. My steak was layed on top of a piece of bread cut in half that ended up being soggy. I don't know how they can call this a sandwich. My coleslaw looked old and tasted it too. My bf said his fish and chips were good although he never complains about anything. I won't go back. read more

A thoroughly average experience for us. We went here over the Holidays for a family get together. I'm not sure what to say about the experience other than that the food is just "OK" Maybe we caught Masters on an off night, but the food just seemed so plain. Maybe the lack of bold flavors here is just a mid-west thing? I had the chicken parmesan, and the breading was very soggy and the sauce was overly chunky and tasted bland. The pasta was fine, but definitely not homemade. Several family members had similar comments in regards to their food, and most people thought it was average. This is the stand-by restaurant for me. I've yet to have a bad meal at The Master's and that's quite a feat since for awhile I was eating there at least once a week. I'm not sure why it's taken me so long to write this, maybe I just don't want to let people know about this wonderful spot and keep it all to my greedy little self. The country club feel is a really nice touch, I really like the aesthetics. Dark wood, dim lighting, carpeted stairs. They sometimes have a piano player. But when it comes to what really matters in a restaurant, the staff and the food, the Master's is a hole in one for both (I promise that will be the only bad golf reference I'll make in this....ok, maybe I'll do one more). You can really tell that management is invested in hiring only quality workers, every waiter or waitress we've had has been spot on and super friendly, some even going so far as to see us being seated and greeting us with our usual drinks (I've mentioned before, there's nothing better than feeling like a regular). The menu is what you would expect, steak, seafood, ribs and sandwedges (they actually call their sandwiches this), all extremely delicious and at a remarkable price. Try the French Onion soup. Do it. This is just a wonderful restaurant that I really can find no fault with, and I don't think you will either. read more

This place is nice and fun. The food is reasonably priced portions are good and everything is always very tasty. Always a decent ribeye nothing special but consistently good. Land and sea- salmon and lamb chops is a nice dish. Service is good. Some may consider the menu slightly limited but I overall enjoy a night out at the masters I'm not sure the schedule but often they have live piano music which is a nice touch. read more

After passing by this place for more than 5 years, I went here for lunch with a co-worker yesterday and had a great experience! We were immediately seated on the second floor in a booth. I had the Cromwell sandwich (pastrami and corned beef) and she had the Reuben. Both sandwiches were prepared with a generous portion of meat and flavor! The sandwiches were accompanied with pickles and coleslaw. I ordered a side of onions rings for an extra $1.95 and they were nice and crispy without an overabundance of breading. When my co-worker explained that we were there to celebrate our birthdays, he generously gave us a complimentary dessert with a candle as well (Mmm...peanut butter pie)! The service was very friendly and prompt and although the decor is slightly dated, I really liked the open feel of the restaurant on a nice sunny day! The food was reasonably priced for a sit down restaurant and I would definitely come here again for a work lunch or special occasion. read more

This is my kind of place! I don't golf that much but I love the golf feel and country club touch. I went in there on Friday for Lent to get fish and chips and boy did I fall in love! The fish and chips were amazing! I also had the New England Clam chowder which was very good. Clean, up to date restrooms! Good service. Just an all around great place to have lunch. My husband and I frequent this restaurant... I enjoy the nostalgic atmosphere, with the wooden stair case and low lighting... The Bar can be VERY noisy and somewhat entertaining... The upstairs is quiet. It seems they are well staffed with the bussers, always there is refill your water, but will sometimes lack in servers and need another host depending on how busy they are. The filet is delicious. And the bartender, Amanda is amazing. read more

My family has been coming here for forever. My grandparents in particular really love this place. It's definitely got a little bit of an older vibe. I'm not sure which days someone is there playing the piano/singing but we only go on the days he's there. He does a really good job and plays a wide range of music including requests. My grandparents even wanted him to learn a specific song for their anniversary one year, and he did. The food itself is pretty good. They have higher end stuff at very reasonable prices. I usually get fish, they have several different options which are all good. We also get the saganaki (flaming cheese) every time, which is always fun and tasty. The staff is always friendly. The restaurant is also good for large groups. We've done some birthday party's for my grandparents here. read more

It seems that everything they serve you from bread to soup to salad to entree is some of the best food we've ever had. We were just at masters on Friday. They do have great food, but they have taken off a few of those signature dishes that we miss. They used to make amazing stuffed mushrooms are no longer on the menu. Seems like they've been replace with easy drop in the fryer foods. They no longer have their porterhouse or prime rib, which is missed. They have an option to upcharge for a big salad with your entrées. You can get a Cesar a Greek and one other choice. The add-ons are anywhere from around $6.95 to add the salad on. but sadly to our dismay the lettuce that used to be a variety of beautiful lettuce was chunks of the end crispy parts of the iceberg lettuce and left much to be desired. The meal was great but it was just disappointing all around. Almost feel like this restaurant is just trying to keep afloat and I really hope that that's not true. We've been going there for many many years and will continue doing so, but I'm not sure if the big salad is worth the extra seven dollar up charge anymore as like I said was definitely a lot different from what you used to get. They used to put chickpeas in there as well, and they no longer do that it just was a really nice up charge salad that tasted great with your meal. We went here for my grandma's birthday, and it was a stellar event. The staff couldn't have been nicer, more involved, more interested. Their participation made the whole event more special. The food was delicious. Debbie was our waitress, and she was so incredible - so personable, so cute, just perfect. The food here is pretty good, but nothing out of this world. The food was your standard fare. This was my second time here in two months. The first time I got the burger and it was honestly just ok. This time I chose the French dip sandwich and it was good - just nothing special about it. I could get this at any family diner. Both times seemed as though the fries had been sitting around a while. The service was atrocious and sadly, we were there for a coworkers birthday lunch. The waitress (Patty) acted as though she was being put out of her way when asked for anything. At the end of the lunch when we inquired about being charged $2.00 for a tea that was not purchased she complained that she had never had to give someone 5 honey's before- just trying to be nasty and verifying that she was being put out by our requests- and said that the owner instructed her to charge .40 a piece for them. They do not warn you a head of time. When we suggested letting a customer know these things she was visibly offended. The crazy thing is I would have been good with the charges all day- as long as I am told and not have to be treated poorly for the requests. Won't be back and will make sure that my coworkers in our corporation know how much of a bother it is to eat in this establishment. read more
