We went to Mastic Seafood today for the first time. We were planning to have a dinner for a special occasion. My sister really likes seafood so my mom wanted to take her to Red Lobster. But we convinced her that the amount of food you pay for there is really not worth it and might not be fresh for takeout. So we convinced her to try to purchase some fresh seafood here to cook at home! They did not disappoint! We arrived around 4:30pm and it was popular! There were many people also in line! The prices are based on market price, so they might fluctuate from time to time. But we purchased two 1.25lbs. lobsters for $18.99. Along with 2lbs. mussels ($5), 12 clams ($5), and 1lbs. steamers ($5.99). Everything totalled together was $34.72! It was such a great deal double the amount of food you would get at a restraunt! Everything tasted super fresh and good! We will definitely be returning customers! To cook everything we added olive oil, garlic, onion, seasoning, some water, white wine potatoes and corn in a big pot. It was very good and fed our family of 4 very satisfied. read more

I used to go here all the time growing up on Long Island and over time this place has gotten worse. The service is fast but the people unless they know you on a first-name basis they do not treat you that well. I came in recently during my visit to my parents and my wife was craving some blue crabs so this was my go-to spot to get them. It was a weekend so it was busy and they still haven't figured to get a number system, so I was there waiting with a few other people and there was a gentleman that came after me who must have known the counter person because he started chatting with him and then that person ended up helping him and I was thinking to myself wth I was here before him but whatever someone was out a few minutes after to help me and so I ordered 2 dozen blue crabs and she had to go to the back to get a brand new basket of them and I could see her picking and searching for small ones and not just grabbing what was on top. I was getting annoyed but she was rushing and wasn't listening to me so I was telling myself I hope they're aren't any dead ones when I get home and what do you know there were 3 out of 24 dead. Next time I am gonna have to open the bag up and count when I'm there... jk I'm not coming back. read more

Nothing but excuses from the managers: "Guys are working fast;" "we're really busy," etc. Bunk! Prices are not cheap. Do the work, boys. When I get into my kitchen, your prep work should have been completed. Other markets in the area do a more thorough job. Located in one of the more unlikely spots for a seafood distributor, this neighborhood fishmonger mainstay is always jammed year-round. Consequently, the customers smell as bad as or worse than the fish, that's all part of Mastic Seafood's charm. Expect to wait and to pay..and for parking to be tough. Friendly but tough local guys run the joint, efficiently performing all the tasks that go along with a well-stocked fish business. I most recently got a soft shell crab cleaned and a pound of bay scallops. $12.05 and a debit punch-pin machine later, I strolled in with a tasty bounty... Great place to buy fresh seafood. I went in with my aunt this weekend to buy what we needed for a lobster boil for 10 people on 4th of July. The prices are great and the staff is helpful and friendly. We got 10 1.25 pound lobsters, a bunch of littlenecks, and a ton of shrimp. It was $120, which isn't cheap, but my aunt said it would've been more if she had gone to CorJ in Hampton Bays. Everything was delicious. I wish we weren't doing a lobster boil because their red snapper looked so good. The crowd of customers varies - sometimes you'll see someone come in and drop over $500 on a big feast, and you'll have people come in who don't want to spend more than $5 but want a fresh piece of fish for dinner that night. If you live close enough, stop in. Bring your cooler, they'll gladly give you some ice to keep your purchase fresh while you drive home. read more

Mastic Seafood is everything a seafood purveyor should be. This isn't a restaurant. Nor does it cater solely to the timid seafood buyer alone. I mean, if you want founder fillets or a few lbs of salmon, you can get it. But that's just the beginning. Though the store is narrow and rather small, the selection is anything but. The cases are lined with rows of fresh, colorful fish of every variety. And the HEADS ARE ON. Why is this important? Because if I want fish without a head only, I'll shop at the grocery store. Dang, I'll buy my seafood in a can. This isn't that kind of experience. This is the genuine article. A couple of weeks ago I bought a dozen sea urchins. We frequent buy whole freshly caught fish, tails and heads, for broiling. We visit Mastic Seafood almost every week. It's a part of our lives.
