2009 had a mediocre experience. 2017 came back and had a horrible experience. So bad in fact the manager was going to give me a large sum of credit to return but I refused. 2026 for some reason I wanted to try again. I finally experienced the 5 star Mastro experience people rave about. Tonight was pure perfection start to finish. Our waiter Antony was a true professional as was Reuben. My wife and I both ordered filet mignon. My 2017 filet was garbage. My filet tonight you could cut with a fork and was heavenly. Our sides of roasted mushrooms and truffled cauliflower were outstanding and we couldn't stop saying how good they were. Paired perfectly with a glass of French Syrah our waiter recommended. My wife cannot drink alcohol anymore and was surprised by a whole selection of very creative mocktails. She really loved her drink. The butter cake can't be beat. That was one good thing from 2009 and I have never found one that compares. It's still just as gut busting and indulgent as it was back then. The waiter kept asking "it's your birthday riiiiiiiight?" I finally agreed. This not only discounted the giant butter cake by $7 but added a slice of chocolate cake! Plus ice cream and whipped cream!!!! Mastro's doesn't feel special anymore, or at least it didn't last night. The service was more like a Denny's. We arrived early and had a drink at the bar. When the hostess came to get us she told us to cash out and then we followed her and carried our own drinks thru the busy place as they sloshed around. She put the two of us at a table for four with screaming kids at the table next to us. I asked to be moved to a table for two. She looked like a deer in the headlights. When the waiter came by he shoved four menus at us and walked away, never introducing himself. When we eventually ordered, I asked him how the chef suggests cooking the Japanese wagyu and he said, "however you want", I asked again same answer. We asked for a recommendation for a glass of wine to go with the steak, he didn't give one just said the entire list has been sampled so if you don't like it just tell me. Huh? The food was great. The service was not. And this Maestro's location felt completely off brand. This was not fine dining. I expect more from Mastro's. No flavors popped out. I prefer the sides from the Summit House in Fullerton way more, VERY good and tasty there! I think I should've added on a flavored sauce or butter, as I know that would've made my steak taste even better. The steak was good, neither bad nor amazing. Service was disappointing: major shoutout to the older gentleman who would come and hand out extra plates or taking plates off. He was very kind and also bagged our takeout for us, thank you sir, bummer I didn't catch your name because I would've loved to give you a shoutout. Don't remember the name of our server, but he was very short (terse in his verbal communication, not his height) and seemed annoyed and even more short when answering our questions. He's seen talking and having a blast at the bigger, older clientele tables, but with us, was short, in and out, just a jerk attitude. You know what i'm talking about when they don't care to engage or be around for any longer than they have to. The bottom of the receipt made me laugh too "20% tip is customary"- not when your server answers your questions in a snarky attitude, makes assumptions off of your age and demographics, don't check up on your table but gives stellar service to the surrounding tables. I was actually VERY surprised to see that 20% printed on the receipt, pretty tacky if you ask me. You do not see that ANYWHERE on the receipts of Wynn restaurants. Very very disappointing. I'll follow other reviewers here and try the Newport location. This was my first time here and wasn't impressed. I've gotten worldclass service at every restaurant at the Wynn and they treat you with respect, are warm and kind, check up on you, and don't treat you any differently than the table next to you. Now THAT warrants a 20% tip. You have no idea who your guests are, don't judge people off of how they look. But, that is VERY typical from customer service nowadays. It's one thing if we were rude, pompous, disrespectful, mean. But nope, we were here to celebrate a special birthday, and very excited to try this place at that, and that was spoiled by the poor attitude from the server. If he was snarky, condescending, short, cold to other surrounding tables/guests, then that'd lead us to think he was just having a crummy day. But nope. VERY obvious he didn't care for our table. How would you like if someone treated/served your loved ones like that? Also, nonverbal communication is very important - there is a difference in gently placing down menus/napkins/utensils as opposed to tossing them onto the table. If my tip had gone to the waitstaff (unsure what to call these gentlemen but they were very kind), 20% absolutely. My review may be harsh to others, but this was my personal experience and my first experience at that. Even the valet were pleasant. What is it with servers with the attitudes and judging you off of your looks? Such a shame as Mastro's "seems" to have high accolades, but not from me. Very dark in the restaurant as well. I took my sister to Mastro's to celebrate her 18th birthday. The reservation was made through the OpenTable app about a week beforehand. Parking is valet. We arrived a bit early for reservation, so we waited at a high top in the bar area (she wasn't old enough to actually sit at the bar). I enjoyed a Monkey Business cocktail while I waited - whisky with banana puree and pineapple juice. When our table was ready, a hostess came to escort us to the main dining room. The atmosphere felt very refined and classy. I really liked the dark, brooding ambiance. Our server was Josh, who took incredible care of us the entire night. He was very professional and knew the menu extremely well. A very cool detail is that the menus were customized with a birthday greeting for my sister! Oddly enough, the bread basket was not complimentary, but included a delicious variety of breads such as pretzel rolls and parmesan crisps. My sister's favorite was the parmesan crisp while mine was the onion bread. For our starter, we shared the jumbo lump crab cakes, served with a creamy and tangy remoulade. They were absolutely scrumptious. The crab tasted fresh, and the patties were hearty. At this point, I asked Josh if the bar could make me a pornstar martini. I quickly relayed the ingredients to him, vanilla vodka, passionfruit liqueur, lime, simple, and a side of prosecco, and he went to check if the bar could accommodate my request. As it turns out, they could. According to Josh, they knew exactly what it was from the name and didn't need any further details. Not only was the cocktail delicious, Josh even provided me with the shaker filled with additional cocktail inside. What amazing customer service! For my entree, at Josh's recommendation, I had the dry aged ribeye. We also got one of the specials, the Alaskan king crab and black truffle gnocchi, per his recommendation. This meal was incredible. That ribeye was magnificent. The crust was perfect, and the inside was so incredibly juicy and tender. The gnocchi was divine. The flavors were so indulgent - creamy, rich, and laden with chunks of luxurious Alaskan king crab. My mouth is watering as I think back on this dish. This was one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. For dessert, we had a slice of rich chocolate cake on the house, accompanied by raspberries, a chocolate and caramel drizzle, and a silver platter of whipped cream. Food: I am obsessed with their bone in ribeye and lobster mashed potatoes, if there's one thing you need to try-- its these items from the menu! I've always gotten a ribeye here because I love their flavors and you can sense the quality of prep they put into these dishes; lobster potatoes are also a top contender because its just so buttery and flavorful with plentiful of lobster bits inside. I got these two delicious items along with an appetizer of meat balls and main salad for my husband. Parking: valet only, tips suggested after leaving (optional) Ambiance: perfect for a celebration, date night, or any outing (can dress up or semi casual) Service: absolutely amazing, our main server was Kevin and he was just wonderful; he was so attentive and so kind, always checking in to make sure we were doing well and made sure our experience was going well. Although Diane and I had been to a Mastro's Ocean Club several times, we had never before dined at a Mastro's Steakhouse. We found them to be very comparable: classy, sophisticated, and praiseworthy for both food and service. Celebrating Mother's Day for two mothers, and my granddaughter's 14th birthday, we began with a nice assortment of bread products, Shrimp Cocktail, and Bigeye Ahi Tartare. The shrimps were large, and the tuna melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I could not finish a large crock of French Onion Soup, and only ate half of Mastro's House Salad, which was riddled with shrimp. The part left behind sufficed nicely as an entire lunch for me the next day. While I selected flaky Chilean Sea Bass for my main, Diane splurged on a Jumbo 14 oz. Lobster Tail, and my daughter and granddaughter both opted for a 16 oz. New York Strip Steak adorned with Truffle Butter. For sides, Diane liked her large loaded Baked Potato, and I was fond of the ceamy white Scalloped Potatoes. For dessert the birthday girl enjoyed s slice of complimentary Special Occasion Cake, while Diane tried a dense slice of Pecan Pie, and my daughter and I shared an order of Chocolate Covered Strawberries. Came for the Mother's Day brunch at $150/person and left disappointed. Half the spread was standard breakfast stuff: eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes. The quality was one step above a complimentary hotel breakfast, and nothing that tasted special enough to justify the price. The seafood tower was tucked at the very end of the buffet line with one person in charge of passing things out, so you had to wait through the already long line just to get to it. Also, it felt dishonest for them to advertise a "seafood tower" on the menu and not actually give out a seafood tower for the table when people are paying $150/pp. There was ONE carving station for the entire restaurant which meant you'd have to endure a 15+ minute wait just to get a plate, and some people waited even longer. And they only offered one complimentary drink (including coffee) per guest. And if you wanted a soda, you'd have to pay $5 more. Insane and stingy for the price. Our group ended up over $1,100 all in and it was a total rip off. Disappointing experience coming from Mastros - totally felt like a cash grab. read more

This Mastros location is a 5-star all the way! It's a huge and spacious location. It's a two story restaurant, dim lighting, red and yellow background lights throughout the restaurant, employees moving left and right, etc. It has such a great vibe all around. My wife and I celebrated Valentines here last Saturday with our son. We all had a great time. We ordered our favorite Chef's Rib Eye Cut (33 oz), Eild mushrooms with truffle butter, garlic mash, creamed corn, and Mac n cheese. Of course, bread service is always a must. Everything was cooked perfectly as usual and I enjoyed the employees serving us our first scoops. I had only been to the Mastros in Beverly Hills and had never noticed this one by south coast plaza. I came here for my works holiday dinner party. There is self parking available nearby but I didn't want to walk and it's also paid so I just did the valet parking. They have a beautiful entrance with the main dinning area and bar downstairs. For bigger groups they have their event rooms upstairs where they have a set of restrooms and everything you may need. Our room was very nicely set up and there was staff welcoming as we came in. For our event, my work had already ordered some AMAZING appetizers and they had a small menu for us to choose from. The seafood tower was spectacular! It is huge and a beautiful presentation. We had one per table which was a lot of seafood. Everything was very tasty and fresh. The skewers we had for the table were very nice and easy to share and pick different flavors. I had the lobster bisque which was very creamy and rich. My main course was the lamb rack which was delicious! It was cooked perfectly to a medium rare. The lobster tail with it was tender and perfect. I loved that they offer the option of individual portions of their butter cake as it's my favourite!! The bartender was really good and offered pretty much any drink I wanted. I started with a lemon drop and then I wasn't sure what else. He suggested a strawberry lemon drop and I loved it! Lobster Mac n cheese came out immediately - must get this as an appetizer. Garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed broccolini are also a must if you are getting steak as a main. Bread service is not life changing or anything but also inexpensive so could be worth it. Previous visits I have ordered the mushrooms and scallops which are both amazing too. Not sure if my medium rare was mistaken with the other steaks that were brought out but I did not enjoy it at all. The meat was tender so that was one great thing about it. Everything seemed to go well from the time we drove up to the front door, were greeted nicely by the valet, who then took our keys and directed us through the door and into the restaurant. There, a nice young hostess greeted us, noted our reservation, and told us we were a little early (a few minutes before dinner opening time), and asked that we please wait a moment while they prepare our table. Incidentally, this place is a very classy, beautifully decorated, but kind of dark ....so be sure to bring some kind of flashlight to view the menu. As soon as we were seated, we were again welcomed by our server who was very nice, professional, and attended to us with great patience and understanding.......you will understand why I mention the last part later. What we truly appreciated was that he honestly tried to make us as happy as possible with our dining experience here. So, my wife is a big lover of steaks and she knew exactly what she wanted....she ordered the 24oz Porterhouse Steak with a separate side of Brussel Sprouts and Broccolini for us to share. I went ahead and ordered the Norwegian Salmon with a 1/2lb of King Crab Legs as an add on to go with it. Oh right, we were asked if we would like their basket of bread at the start...not complimentary....so, just to give it a try, we said yes. Yes, the bread was very good and clearly freshly made.....we almost finished it all. My salmon was cooked perfectly....very fresh, very moist, and absolutely delicious. My king crab legs were not bad, but I expected better for $90 for a half pound......the crab meat was not as plump and juicy as I had expected, but it was ok. My wife was not happy with her Porterhouse steak (cooked medium), however. She said it was very tough to chew and could not be eaten with ease. We then called our server over, explained the situation, where he proceeded to explained that Porterhouse steaks are typically a tougher meat, but that he would gladly exchange it for something else, if my wife liked. She then chose the Bone in Ribeye, also cooked medium, but that it would take another 10-15 minutes to be prepared. According to my wife, the wait was worth it as the bone in ribeye was excellent! Unfortunately, in our server's haste to get our food out asap, the steak slid of the plate and onto the table as he was serving it.....oh oh! As for the sides, we had requested that both the broccolini and brussel sprouts be unsalted. The broccolini turned out excellent, was not overcooked, and tasted delicious. However, we could taste that salt had been added to the brussel sprouts by mistake, but our server admitted that it was his mistake and not the kitchen's. Things obviously didn't go smoothly for us this evening, but we were very happy with the meal ending desserts though. I was presented with a complimentary Birthday cheesecake, which was absolutely delicious, even though I am not a dessert person, but I finished it all off anyway...it was so good. My wife went ahead and ordered the chocolate sin cake, and she absolutely loved it! Ok, so all was not lost this evening as the desserts kind of helped out the somewhat disappointing evening. However, for the price of this fine dining experience, and the very lofty expectations we had for a perfect dining experience, this sadly did not quite meet our expectations. And to make matters worse, I am a Landry's Select Club member, but was told that Mastro's is not included in their group of restaurants......so, no points, no rewards, no benefits, etc. read more

I wanted to surprise my parents for my mom's birthday dinner, but since I live in a different city, I was trying to figure out how I could take care of their bill from afar. Sammy was incredibly professional, kind, and so helpful in coordinating everything and making sure the check was taken care of at the end of their dinner. Even though I've never personally dined at the restaurant, the experience I had just over the phone was truly above and beyond. came here for my bebay's birthday dinner after a not-so-successful attempt to eat at the spectrum. we were so happy to eat @ the bar area, which is much more casual & less uppity than the other sections. plus, live music! honey enjoyed the filet & the scallops appetizer was absolutely divine. our absolute favorite part of the meal was the cauliflower & scalloped potatoes sides! i'm such a "sides" person & i left feeling inspired. 10/10 would come here again & again. read more

Ok well let's start at the beginning: Valet parking: for only $10? Perfect. It's NOT $10/hour like someone said before. Check In: Seamless and we were seated right away even though we were early for our reservation time. Once seated we were given water and asked if we wanted Bread and that's a no brainer. Server was Jude and he did a great job. Would have liked to know that the butter for the steaks was $16. I mean my Salad was less than one small scoop of butter (oh well) ya don't ask they don't tell ) Bread: probably some of the best bread ever and worth the $6 Shrimp Cocktail: it's good and the horseradish was great ($31 probably high but) Bone Marrow: Not really worth it, no flavor and not cooked enough) Chopped Wedge: It's a wedge ya can't mess it up but I will say it was dressed perfectly. Went with KC Bone in strip and for the money I should have gotten the large Filet it would have been the better way ( it was not cooked but ya can't see anything so??) Green beans: gotta have Mastros mashed: gotta have King Crab fried rice: hard pass. Not sure it's KING crab like someone mentioned earlier but it was fishy smelling and all of us sushi fans know what that means. Desserts: Awesome So overall bread salad and water was great And Mario who was helping our server was a bright spot. Service was excellent but way too many steakhouses you can get better steaks from. They are busy which makes me wonder if people know what is good. Just cuz it's expensive doesn't Make it good. Fourth and last time here. They won't miss me they Have plenty of clients. But one More complaint, why is it so dark? So you can't see the outcome? You shouldn't need to take out your flashlight to read a menu or to look at your food just unbelievable not to mention.
