I took my sister to Mastro's to celebrate her 18th birthday. The reservation was made through the OpenTable app about a week beforehand. Parking is valet. We arrived a bit early for reservation, so we waited at a high top in the bar area (she wasn't old enough to actually sit at the bar). I enjoyed a Monkey Business cocktail while I waited - whisky with banana puree and pineapple juice. When our table was ready, a hostess came to escort us to the main dining room. The atmosphere felt very refined and classy. I really liked the dark, brooding ambiance. Our server was Josh, who took incredible care of us the entire night. He was very professional and knew the menu extremely well. A very cool detail is that the menus were customized with a birthday greeting for my sister! Oddly enough, the bread basket was not complimentary, but included a delicious variety of breads such as pretzel rolls and parmesan crisps. My sister's favorite was the parmesan crisp while mine was the onion bread. For our starter, we shared the jumbo lump crab cakes, served with a creamy and tangy remoulade. They were absolutely scrumptious. The crab tasted fresh, and the patties were hearty. At this point, I asked Josh if the bar could make me a pornstar martini. I quickly relayed the ingredients to him, vanilla vodka, passionfruit liqueur, lime, simple, and a side of prosecco, and he went to check if the bar could accommodate my request. As it turns out, they could. According to Josh, they knew exactly what it was from the name and didn't need any further details. Not only was the cocktail delicious, Josh even provided me with the shaker filled with additional cocktail inside. What amazing customer service! For my entree, at Josh's recommendation, I had the dry aged ribeye. We also got one of the specials, the Alaskan king crab and black truffle gnocchi, per his recommendation. This meal was incredible. That ribeye was magnificent. The crust was perfect, and the inside was so incredibly juicy and tender. The gnocchi was divine. The flavors were so indulgent - creamy, rich, and laden with chunks of luxurious Alaskan king crab. My mouth is watering as I think back on this dish. This was one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. For dessert, we had a slice of rich chocolate cake on the house, accompanied by raspberries, a chocolate and caramel drizzle, and a silver platter of whipped cream. We had an amazing experience at Mastro's. A special thanks to Josh taking such good care of us the entire night. I am already anticipating my next visit.

I can't believe I haven't had the chance to review this place, Mastro's steakhouse is by far my favorite steak spot ever! i've been to many locations in the past (including the ocean club and in LA) but I'm local to OC and Costa Mesa location does not disappoint! Came here to celebrate my birthday on 7/23/26 with my husband, Mastros was my pick for the night to enjoy and indulge! I had the best time and couldn't be happier. Food: I am obsessed with their bone in ribeye and lobster mashed potatoes, if there's one thing you need to try-- its these items from the menu! I've always gotten a ribeye here because I love their flavors and you can sense the quality of prep they put into these dishes; lobster potatoes are also a top contender because its just so buttery and flavorful with plentiful of lobster bits inside. I got these two delicious items along with an appetizer of meat balls and main salad for my husband. Parking: valet only, tips suggested after leaving (optional) Ambiance: perfect for a celebration, date night, or any outing (can dress up or semi casual) Service: absolutely amazing, our main server was Kevin and he was just wonderful; he was so attentive and so kind, always checking in to make sure we were doing well and made sure our experience was going well. I loved that the desserts platter had my name beautifully written and personalized for my birthday! This was probably the highlight of my night and made it all the more special. Thank you Mastros for always giving me such amazing memories and celebrating another year of life!

Although Diane and I had been to a Mastro's Ocean Club several times, we had never before dined at a Mastro's Steakhouse. We found them to be very comparable: classy, sophisticated, and praiseworthy for both food and service. Celebrating Mother's Day for two mothers, and my granddaughter's 14th birthday, we began with a nice assortment of bread products, Shrimp Cocktail, and Bigeye Ahi Tartare. The shrimps were large, and the tuna melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I could not finish a large crock of French Onion Soup, and only ate half of Mastro's House Salad, which was riddled with shrimp. The part left behind sufficed nicely as an entire lunch for me the next day. While I selected flaky Chilean Sea Bass for my main, Diane splurged on a Jumbo 14 oz. Lobster Tail, and my daughter and granddaughter both opted for a 16 oz. New York Strip Steak adorned with Truffle Butter. For sides, Diane liked her large loaded Baked Potato, and I was fond of the ceamy white Scalloped Potatoes. For dessert the birthday girl enjoyed s slice of complimentary Special Occasion Cake, while Diane tried a dense slice of Pecan Pie, and my daughter and I shared an order of Chocolate Covered Strawberries. Service by Anony was five stars all the way, and so was our entire experience here.

A little dark and intimate dining with my wife celebrating our 17yrs together, couldn't have asked for a more pleasant dining experience. Thank you to everyone at Mastro's who made our special day memorable. Sara our waitress was excellent. Welcomed us and congratulated us on our special day and showed extra care explaining the drink and dining menus. We ordered 6oz & 8oz filets, garlic mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. The bread basket was an excellent variety of breads (a must order). Everything was delicious. I forgot to mention the hostess was very nice and welcoming as well. We were greeted and exited with nice pleasantries. Valet parking $10.00 for those who are wondering.

Came for the Mother's Day brunch at $150/person and left disappointed. Half the spread was standard breakfast stuff: eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes. The quality was one step above a complimentary hotel breakfast, and nothing that tasted special enough to justify the price. The seafood tower was tucked at the very end of the buffet line with one person in charge of passing things out, so you had to wait through the already long line just to get to it. Also, it felt dishonest for them to advertise a "seafood tower" on the menu and not actually give out a seafood tower for the table when people are paying $150/pp. There was ONE carving station for the entire restaurant which meant you'd have to endure a 15+ minute wait just to get a plate, and some people waited even longer. And they only offered one complimentary drink (including coffee) per guest. And if you wanted a soda, you'd have to pay $5 more. Insane and stingy for the price. Our group ended up over $1,100 all in and it was a total rip off. Disappointing experience coming from Mastros - totally felt like a cash grab.

I expected the food to be overrated but I was wrong. My bf brought me for my birthday and I loved it. Everything was delicious. Can't wait to come back! Bread service: 9/10 must get! Calamari: 9/10 Chef's cut ribeye 33oz: 1000/10 ordered medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. We got a side of truffle butter to go with the steak. It was yummy but tbh the steak was good all on its own. Garlic mashed potatoes: 10/10 Broccolini: 8/10 Butter cake: 6/10 it was okay but I expected more from all the hype it gets. I wouldn't order it again. Chocolate cake: 10/10 it was so rich! Best chocolate cake I've had so far. I'm not a sweets person but it's not too overly sweet. Ambience is upscale, luxurious and lively. Their lighting is very warm and dim that gives it a classic steakhouse elegance. Our server was awesome and a professional. Although he was busy he kept checking up on us.

Came here last night for our anniversary dinner. 5 starts for the food & service. Our server Drew was fantastic and really wanted to make sure we had a good time and that we got everything we wanted and more. He offered to take pictures for our anniversary and was genuinely happy to help us for the evening. He was so friendly, personable and attentive. We've been to Mastros before in multiple locations and this was by far the best experience we've had. THANK YOU DREW ! Honestly surpassed all of our expectations (and set the bar even higher for our next visit lol) ! For the food we had the delicious bread basket, the Dungeness crab cocktail, steak, crab cakes, Mac and cheese, spinach and cauliflower. They blessed us with a decadent chocolate cake and we ordered the butter cake of course!

This Mastros location is a 5-star all the way! It's a huge and spacious location. It's a two story restaurant, dim lighting, red and yellow background lights throughout the restaurant, employees moving left and right, etc. It has such a great vibe all around. My wife and I celebrated Valentines here last Saturday with our son. We all had a great time. We ordered our favorite Chef's Rib Eye Cut (33 oz), Eild mushrooms with truffle butter, garlic mash, creamed corn, and Mac n cheese. Of course, bread service is always a must. Everything was cooked perfectly as usual and I enjoyed the employees serving us our first scoops. Just a heads up, steak sauces are now $5 each (used to be free), valet parking is $10, and the wild mushrooms with truffle butter is off the menu but can be made at request. This is one of my favorite locations! I'll definitely come back again when I'm in New Port!

Such a great experience! This a place to definitely go if you are celebrating something special. My loved one brought me here for my birthday dinner, the atmosphere, the service, and the plating were just right. Everything came with great presentation, and never rushed. The team makes you feel special, and even had a special touch of putting your name on the menu, and a delectable dessert at the end. My favorites were the sides of course lol

I had only been to the Mastros in Beverly Hills and had never noticed this one by south coast plaza. I came here for my works holiday dinner party. There is self parking available nearby but I didn't want to walk and it's also paid so I just did the valet parking. They have a beautiful entrance with the main dinning area and bar downstairs. For bigger groups they have their event rooms upstairs where they have a set of restrooms and everything you may need. Our room was very nicely set up and there was staff welcoming as we came in. For our event, my work had already ordered some AMAZING appetizers and they had a small menu for us to choose from. The seafood tower was spectacular! It is huge and a beautiful presentation. We had one per table which was a lot of seafood. Everything was very tasty and fresh. The skewers we had for the table were very nice and easy to share and pick different flavors. I had the lobster bisque which was very creamy and rich. My main course was the lamb rack which was delicious! It was cooked perfectly to a medium rare. The lobster tail with it was tender and perfect. I loved that they offer the option of individual portions of their butter cake as it's my favourite!! The bartender was really good and offered pretty much any drink I wanted. I started with a lemon drop and then I wasn't sure what else. He suggested a strawberry lemon drop and I loved it! The room was great for groups and the service was outstanding! Overall I can't wait to be back as a regular customer and I would highly recommend for special events in their private rooms.

There is a reason why Mastro's is one of the best steakhouses, and also why it will always be our #1 favorite. High quality meat. Excellent service. Elegant atmosphere. We came to celebrate my husband's birthday tonight at Mastro's and did not leave disappointed. Steak is cooked to perfection. Topped with butter of server's recommendation and each bite is like heaven. I always joke to hubbie and say I am a cheap date because my choice is always petite filet with a side of creamed spinach. He chose the 22 ounce ribeye with truffle mushroom Mac n cheese. Omg every single one of those dishes were heavenly. Our waiter let us know that the aged wine prices have not inflated over the years so we had to try the 2014 Seven Hills Merlot. Wow, so perfect with our meal. Everything was perfect tonight. To our main dish, to oysters to start the night, to our complimentary birthday cake and an espresso martini to close out the night. I will always think of Mastro's as the best steakhouse ever.

    Meg C.

Mastro's never disappoints. The dry-aged ribeye was absolutely juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked--so tender and succulent with that rich, melt-in-your-mouth taste you expect from a great steakhouse. Every bite was worth it. The service was top notch from start to finish, Patricia was attentive, professional, and made the whole dining experience feel extra special. The classy ambiance just ties everything together... elegant, lively, and perfect for a nice night out.

Ask the Community - Mastro's Steakhouse

How is the patio seating here?

It's ok but it's overlooking a parking lot. Not exactly the greatest view

    Can I use a Landry's giftcard here?

Gift cards I believe so, but sadly, no to the acceptance of Landry's rewards, nor do you earn points here. As of Dec 2025

Does anyone know if they have EV chargers when you valet?

    Unfortunately, they do not

Can you wear see through dress to Mastro's?

Mastro's enforces a strict upscale dress code. We do not allow beachwear, gym attire including sweatpants, sweatshirts or hoodies. Athletic apparel, jerseys, hats, beanies, bandanas, ball caps, oversized or baggy clothing, tank tops, and sleeveless…

Is there a dress codes? I was wondering if kids could wear shorts.

I didn't see any small kids there. I would say it is more a place for 13 and up. From the restaurant:…

Good place to for family night out? We have a 5y/o boy?

Def not discouraged, he will be fine. He may be bored though.

How much should I expect to pay for a dinner for two?

Depends of you want leftovers. For myself I got a steak, 2 sides, 1 cocktail and paid 140 not including tip, but I had plenty of food left over

    Are nice jeans acceptable attire?

    For sure

Does the bread service come with refills?

It used to pre Covid. They charge for the bread basket and for refills.

What's the difference between "standard seating" and "high top seating" and which is preferred?

Standard seating is in the dinning room, high top seating is in the bar/lounge, where there is live music and a better party type atmosphere.

    Does maestro's offer cork fee?

I just called today and the woman said $50 per regular bottle. 😱

Is a reservation required for bar area?

    No.

Is live music still happening on weekends & what kind of music?

Hi Jacqueline, we have live music every night. Our artist varies depending on the night. Thank you.

    Is it Baby friendly?

I do not recommend bringing your baby to this restaurant. There is usually live music and it is too loud for a baby.

How do i request a personalized menu?

What do you mean personalized? As in a happy birthday menu? Just request it when you make a reservation. If you want a personalized meal that would be a bit more complex that you would have to work with the restaurant manager

What nights of the week have live music?

    Sunday - Thursday: 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM Friday - Saturday: 6:30PM - 10:30 PM

Do they allow you to bring your child?

    Yes.

Do you have outdoor dining in this Costa Mesa location?

There is a covered patio you can request, but most of the seating is indoor

Which location do you recommend for 1st time to take my husband out for his Birthday coming from Riverside during the week?

Costa Mesa. Don't forget to order the butter cake!

What is your current corkage fee?

    50 dolllars

I recommend getting a bunch of plates and eating family style so you can try a little of everything. My favorites were the beet and burrata salad, the wagu steak and the Chilean sea bass. I feel like you can go wrong with anything on the menu!

From the…read moremoment you step inside, you are greeted by an adorable interior and decor that cleverly and beautifully matches the restaurant's theme. Every single item we ordered from the menu was exceptional: Beet Salad & Bone Marrow: Both made for fantastic starters, setting a high bar for the meal. Beef Tartare: Served with house-made potato chips that are a masterclass in texture--thin, fried, airy, and crispy all at the same time. Steak and Fries: Classic execution and wonderfully prepared. Duck Confit: Superb. The pairing of the rich mole sauce and sweet potato puree takes the dish to an entirely different level, complementing each other effortlessly. Baklava Cheesecake: A creative and delicious twist on a classic. The cream cheese filling is light rather than dense, and instead of a traditional graham cracker crust, it features a fantastic baklava crust. It is nicely balanced and not overly sweet, though you will definitely want to pair it with a cup of coffee to finish it off. Service: The staff is exceptionally friendly, highly attentive, and organized, making you feel well cared for throughout the meal. Portions: Portions are slightly on the smaller side. My husband and I ordered three appetizers and two main entrees to share, and we were still quite hungry by the end--so you may want to order an extra dish or side if you have a hearty appetite! Overall, a wonderful dining experience with incredible flavors and charming ambiance. Highly recommended!

We had the Duck and Steak frites. The duck was my personal favorite of the two. One duck leg set in a flavorful mole sauce that made the dish incredibly delicious. The steak was cooked perfectly to my liking although it was a bit tough. The French fries were addictive. Seasoned well and oh so crispy! They were some of the best I've had!

We sat at the bar while waiting for our table, and were greeted by a friendly, knowledgeable bar tender, who recommended items from the tapas menu. We requested, and were seated at, a quiet table in the back patio. The wait staff and service was friendly, professional, and outstanding. We ordered tapas, and loved every bite, from the Papas Brava and Bikini Sandwich to the Panza de Cerdo. These three tapas were more than enough for the two of us. They were filling, delicious, and did not disappoint. We topped it all off with tastes of Vaca's homemade flan and almond paste cake. DELICIOUS! But Vaca is also an expensive high-end steak and Iberian ham restaurant, with every cut of expertly aged beef and Spanish Iberian cured ham imaginable. All in all, Vaca is a great moderately priced tapas and paella restaurant, and also it is an expensive premium steak/ham restaurant. We think you'll enjoy the ambiance, service and most of all, the food. We give it our high recommendation.

What a fabulous place to celebrate a birthday!…read more We were in the area to see a show at the Segerstrom theatre and Vaca is literally a 4 minute walk away. Which worked out for us since we were able to use the restaurants valet service and leave our car there until after the show. As soon as we walked in, I was in awe of how cool the place looked! The bar located near the front door was very inviting and definitely made me want to go back just to sit there for a couple of cocktails. Speaking of cocktails, their signature, The Vaca Tonic was my favorite cocktail that I tried. It's refreshing, pretty and definitely had me ordering a second one. They have a variety of spirits to choose from, but the Gin cocktails were definitely my favorite. For dinner, my husband and I choose the Tapas route and order a few plates to share. The Carpaccio, Gambas Al Ajillo(sautéed shrimp) and the La Bola(upscale version of potato balls) were my favorite dishes. This isn't to say that our other plates weren't delicious, I'm just saying these plates left me wanting more. Last but not least, we ended the night with a slice of their Basque Cheesecake, and oh my goodness, this had to be hands down, one of the best cheesecakes I've ever had. I was so full, but there was no way we were leaving any piece of the cheesecake uneaten. Now, this restaurant is more on the pricey side. But, I would 100% recommend to try once or make it a priority to check out when you have a special occasion to celebrate!
