I love this place, Discovered it in late 2022 and come here regularly. I love the everything about it, the drinks, music atmosphere and everything in between. Great with friends and inviting staff.
Super yummy ! I had the strawberry matcha latte and the banana pudding matcha latte. Both were really creamy and yummy
Perfect spot for a sweet treat! The ube and matcha soft serve was delicious. They also had a guava soft serve flavor which was very good as well. The staff were all very friendly and organized. There are a few tables and counter high chairs so you can enjoy the dessert inside as well.
I am a serious lover of this place but I am not sure what has changed in 2 years since the last I got to visit here. Their black sesame was so good 2 years ago but when I was here, I tasted more vanilla than black sesame and didn't get that instant wow factor. For price I'm paying, I expect it to be top tier and not cheap with a vanilla base. I don't think I will be back anytime soon even though I go to Philly once a year. I was super disappointed in what I got. My matcha latte felt a little flat and not high grade like prior. I guess overall the quality has dropped and I guess I'm onto finding a new matcha/black sesame place in Philly. The place felt dirty too.. usually it's a bit more clean or has been clean every time I would go in. The service was lovely.

Just a heads up: there are four steps to get inside, so accessibility might be a challenge if you have a disability. I ordered the Banana Pudding Latte, which was tasty (tip: mix all the ingredients together for the best flavor). I also tried the soft serve matcha with a scoop of mango soft serve on a sugar cone--honestly, the soft serve was even better than the drink. Super tasty! Service was okay--two polite girls were taking and making orders, and everything came out smoothly. The vibes are chill and a little on the quiet side--would love to see the music turned up just a bit for more energy. Would I come back? Yes Taste: 8/10 Service: 9/10 Vibes: 6/10 Location: 10/10
Cute dessert spot in Chinatown! I loved all the different ways to eat matcha, but the classic cone has to be my favorite. If they still have it, ask for a sample of the durian! It's better than it sounds!

At this point I thought I had tried every seasonal flavor but a trip to Matcha Cafe Maiko proved me wrong! This time we got their seasonal Pandan flavor!! Very subtle flavor and had notes of mild vanilla or coconut. Matcha and Ube continue to rule as my top favorites!
After seeing a post online, we came to try the banana pudding matcha latte, because if there are two things I love it's anything banana flavored and anything matcha flavored! And while it was pretty tasty, I think I would have enjoyed both the banana pudding and matcha latte more if I just had them separately. Like it was good, but nothing to go crazy over. Like I would have had the same amount of enjoyment just eating one after the other. Like they didn't really add to each other when combined. As for the matcha soft serve, we had actually ordered an Earl gray soft serve, gotten the wrong order, and then just decided to eat it anyways. So it was like whatever. That being said, it was super creamy. And the matcha flavor was nice and strong without being too sweet.
Came over to grab some matcha afternoon drinks. Not impressed. Not saying they are not good, just nothing stands out. Drinks: matcha drinks mixed with different flavors, and yogurt? ice cream? mix options. Which you can get it from many other shops as well. Their flavor or taste does not stand out. Atmosphere: tiny shop, narrow, and easily gets packed with people if customers just stand there in line. We were not comfortable while enjoying our treat inside; it might be better just to order and go. Service: 2 young ladies were working there during our visit. no greetings, no smile, did not feel welcomed, I am sure they can do better than that. Price: moderate, comparable to other similar drinks in the area. Personally, I prefer a matcha shop where I can comfortably sit down and enjoy my orders, so... on this note, I probably won't return to this particular shop.

This place quite literally blew my mind. I went to Japan twice and this ice cream literally reminded me of Japan the sweet bitterness of matcha ice cream and then the sweet floral Sakura flavor. The bitterness enhanced the sweetness of Sakura making it an amazing pair. If only the machine had them for the swirl . The staff was nice and the ambiance was cute but small. It's not like a sit down restaurant so there's not much I can say about service but the ambiance was nice. Came to Matcha Maiko for dessert after lunch. I've been to this location a few times before and have always enjoyed their soft serve. I kept seeing their Mango Sticky Rice Pandan Soft Serve Parfait all over social media, so I knew I had to come try it. Honestly, it didn't really live up to my expectations. The mango sticky rice wasn't very warm, which took away from the overall dessert, and the pieces of mango were quite sour. I was hoping for sweeter mango to balance everything out. The pandan soft serve itself was pretty good and had a nice, strong pandan flavor. That was definitely my favorite part of the parfait. Overall, I liked the idea of the dessert and the combination of flavors, but the mango sticky rice portion was a little disappointing. I'd still come back for their matcha soft serve, but I probably wouldn't get this particular parfait again. read more

Came to china town specifically for this and it lived up to the hype - the soft serve was just bitter enough, but balanced with creaminess and sweetness. I also loved how light it was compared to normal ice cream. Can't wait to come back to try more soft serve flavors and their other matcha treats! read more
Good Ube. Good matcha. We stumbled upon this place looking for a dessert place after dinner in Chinatown. This place is on the smaller side but is very clean and bright. There are a lot of options but we went for ube, melon, matcha. All the ice creams were very good! We wanted to strawberry matcha as well but they were all sold out. The portion size is really big as well so we couldn't finish our ice cream the workers were very friendly as well! read more

The line was long but it moved so fast. The matcha strawberry Sunday is worth the wait. The ice cream was perfectly matcha infused, you could tell it was authentic. It was so flavorful. The strawberry purée was the perfect amount in the cup and on the top. The ambiance is casual, there are some stools and tables but it may be be hard to get a seat when it's busy. read more

Matcha Maiko is one of my go-to spots now. I absolutely love the strawberry matcha. It's my favorite and honestly the best I've had. The matcha is high quality and tastes superb. The drink is sweet, creamy, and perfectly balanced with that vibrant, refreshing strawberry flavor. It's the perfect spring and summer drink. I've been there more than once now, and the quality is always consistent. The baristas are really nice, and I appreciated how clean the space was. There's a good amount of seating and WiFi too, which makes it a great place to hang out or get a little work done. Definitely a spot I'll keep coming back to. read more
A place for dessert in Chinatown, with a focus on matcha, and drink combinations as delightful as the service. Yessss! Such a place does exist and I have stumbled onto it here at Matcha Cafe Maiko. Their "Matcha and Hojicha are carefully grown at Harima Gardens in uji, where only the finest leaves are picked, delivering an authentic and traditional taste". You can taste the quality. The space is inviting with clean lines and an efficient layout. Menus are on display via the two screens in the middle of the seating area. Service was friendly, signage was charming - the one about suggesting hair cover made me giggle out loud, which I haven't done in a while. Definitely check out this spot and grab a drink in the am or dessert all day or a dessert in the am. Adulting is hard, treat yourself! read more

Came back to try the matcha/ube swirl and it was perfection! Creamy and the cone was tasty as well. They have seasonal soft serve flavors so keep a look out for that. This place doesn't disappoint, fast service, and small but nice seating area. Definitely check this place out after dinner! read more
service was good and quick! she answered questions i had about the drink and let me change my order twice. both the sakura matcha and the ice cream were delicious. there's not much seating so wouldn't recommend for a large crowd. read more
I was craving for a drink with their ice cream, so I decided to give them a call when I was heading off from center city. I placed a mobile order and give them an eta. Because of parking issue, I was hoping to parked right outside their shop, rushing in, pay and grab the order and head out. But the mobile order actually did nothing except for the girl to expect I am coming. Because she didn't make my drink until I arrived. I thought she can make the drink first then when I get there, add the ice cream if afraid they will melt. Lucky there were no other customers in line, so the transaction did went quickly and I was in and out within 30 seconds. read more
There are a lot of seats and the server was pleasant, helpful, and quick. The Matcha Sakura Latte was really good and I don't like matcha. The environment was comfortable, clean, and bright. I would come back very soon. read more

Loved everything about this place! The vibe is cute, and the desserts are so flavorful. The matcha in the shave ice and the soft serve was clearly high quality, and the number of toppings (red bean, chestnut, mochi) they added was awesome! Can't wait to come back soon. read more
I love their soft serve!! The limited time flavors are always interesting to try. I even had the wasabi soft serve during Halloween and it wasn't bad! I've had their drinks a few times as well and it was also quality stuff. A small space with an okay amount of seating and service has always been quick. Cashiers were always helpful with answering questions. read more

Upon entry, I immediately noticed a foul smell in the cafe and was turned off. Because we had arrived here in the afternoon, my mom sought a drink with no caffeine, and the best option was the yuzu hot drink--something we can easily make at home. I ordered the Sakura matcha. It's too sweet for my preference, but the Sakura has a pretty scent. I was unable to tell if there was a high caffeine content because I didn't particularly feel perky nor energized after the drink. Service was nice, but it doesn't make up for the experience. Overall, not my favorite experience here (and I've been here a few times for the delicious ice cream). Next time, I'd be open to trying the matcha latte to see if that suits me more because I do appreciate a specialty matcha cafe in Philadelphia. read more
Amazing Ube Soft Serve in a handmade waffle cone. I thought it couldn't get any better than a nearby matcha dessert shop but Matcha Cafe Maiko definitely has the best Ube Soft Serve. This Ube was just the right amount of sweet and creamy body swirled in a crispy paper wrapped waffle cone. I also tried the Matcha Panna Cotta which had a consistency that was just a bit heavier but like others have noted, the Matcha flavor was strong. I asked to forgo the bean topping that normally accompanies the dish. On a cold winter evening, I was one of two customers in the shop, so I didn't have to wait very long for my order to be made which was another big plus. I'll be back to try other items on the menu, including the other soft serve flavors, for sure. read more
