EXTREMELY SLOW SERVICE! I was seated at a dirty table. The host cleaned the table top but didn't not clean the seats so I had to get my wet wipe and do it myself. So what precautions are you taking to sanitize? They don't really have a social distancing plan in place. All the tables are open. The restaurants was practically empty and seemed to be well staffed yet I was sitting and sitting waiting to be assisted. Finally my waiter came over I'm sure he saw a look of frustration. Spinach dip was really creamy. I like mines a little more chunky however it was still tasty. The pizza is always delicious. We were not greeted by the host and when we asked her about seating she said there's only seating at the bar and proceeds to say there is a 30-45 min. wait never did she offer us to get on the waitlist. We asked if we could get on the waitlist & she became annoyed. Our waiter, was super sweet and attentive. Later, we had another waitress who was rude and had a bad attitude. I went to the restroom and saw this cockroach while in the restroom. I went outside and told the waitress there was a cockroach and proceeded to show her the pictures. Solid dining option, lots of options on the menu, both standard bar food and some unique dishes like my Braised Short Rib Ravioli which was INCREDIBLE. Dishes looked well prepare and everything I didn't try looked good. Good eclectic mix of craft brews and spirits, and being co-located with the Ritz and the mall make this a great stop if you're in the Pentagon area. Service for our group of 11 was quick and almost flawless, the environment is very cool and casual, with plenty to look at and observe. I definitely recommend stopping in for dinner and drinks if you're in the neighborhood! read more

Worst service ever. Ordered unsweet ice tea, and a glass of ice. What came was a glass of warm tea and a half glass of ice, which immediately melted when the tea was added. Asked for another glass of ice and it arrived about 10 minutes later. I later asked for a refill and another glass of warm tea came; I then asked for another glass of ice, Mixed them, and it turned out be be sweetened tea. 5 minutes the server hadn't returned so I got up and asked someone to find our server. He came after a bit and said "Oh". And eventually brought the right thing. When we were getting ready to leave, I asked for a box. 10 minutes later I got up and asked another person for a box, and she handed me one. They put a 20% gratuity on the bill because of party size... and gave me a screen where I could leave more!! I didn't. Won't return. read more

There must be new management, I've never had such a poor experience. They are apparently the only restaurant I know that doesn't substitute pancakes for French toast. I was charged the entire order of pancakes. I ordered garlic pizza bread and the receipt called it table bread, it was bare flatbread with nothing on it. Ordered minicheeseburgers to go no pickles with bacon. I asked for medium well and was told they cannot do that because the burgers are so small. I went twice to this same location while in DC for work. The service we received the second time was exceptional. The first time was good but the second time was amazing. My husband and I shared the hot chicken sandwich and the calamari the first time. The chicken sandwich was so good we each got our own the second time. The calamari was ok but that hot chicken sandwich was worth writing home about. We also got the Sangria which was really good. We will definitely go back again. read more

So on four different occasions I got to try the short rib rigatoni, half chicken, Alfredo pasta, tuna tacos, and arancini. I thought all were really good. Especially the tuna tacos, rigatoni, and arancini. -The tacos had a really good sauce that set them off! - the arancini was crispy and the tomato sauce had so much flavor. - the rigatoni had a ton of flavor and the short ribs were seasoned and cooked the perfection. ( I just wish they gave me more short ribs ). All in all matchbox really changed for the better!! ( went there several times a few years back and it wasn't very good). Came here for happy hour on a weekday and got seated right away. the space is large with high ceilings and industrial feels. our waiter was really attentive, joked with us, and provided great service. bread - really chewy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. chive butter is delicious spicy meatball - didn't realize how pricey this place is so the happy hour is actually a good deal. the meatballs weren't that spicy or flavorful really but they were tender and yummy with the pizza. i was able to add chili flakes to amp up the flavor. overall a really good experience. read more

This has to be the most unprofessional restaurant ever. My colleague and I came for lunch to have a business lunch. The waitress, Ivania, was taking her time and not listening to what we were asking for. She walked away more than once as we were talking to her. When we asked for our receipt, she retook her time. When I asked her where the receipt was so I could pay and return to my office, she spoke to two colleagues in their native tongue. I bet you it was about me. I'm very disappointed with the service today because my colleagues and I no longer frequent this location! Please train your employees to be courteous when dealing with other people's time, especially if you are not busy! read more

Slow service. Mediocre food. The minute you have to apologize for slow service should be the moment that you offer some thing free to those diners (small appetizer, discount, free drink etc.). Simply stating the obvious- that the food is taking longer than it should- just isn't enough. It took forever for our entrees and then what seemed like forever again for one milkshake for dessert. Our server was rarely around- she was impersonal and unconcerned. This experience tracks for all of my visits to Marchbox over the past few years at their various locations. boyfriend and i are in the area for vacation and we had a fantastic lunch here. we were sat right away and our selections came in a timely fashion. ginormous meatball was delicious for an appetizer. i had the margarita pizza and my boyfriend had a burger - both were great. i only had a couple complaints that knocked off one star. first, the restaurant itself was pretty warm inside and it was disappointing to come inside from the hot sidewalk where i'd been sweating all afternoon. secondly, had to ask my waitress for a box twice and she never brought it. my boyfriend tracked down another staff member so i could get a box and we could head out. overall, the food was great and we had a great time here. next time we're in the area we would definitely come back here again to try some new items. read more

Constant disappointment. Service isn't bad. It's just clear no one really specializes in customer service. My takeout orders are never right. They're always out of things I like mid-day. Sometimes it's cash only. When I go to enjoy a low key dinner alone and the place is half empty, sis seats me directly next to a huge party. Like I understand the whole server ratio but for a restaurant charging 30$ for ever entree and 16$ for every appetizer has extremely average service. I've spoken to managers...still mid. From top to bottom. One time I came to pick up my own food and EVERYONE talked to me like I worked for Uber eats. Literally. That's a straight up microagression in my book. The food cost too much for me to get better service at Taco Bell. I didn't really want the booth I was seated in. But the hostess didn't really care. The booth was broken. The cushion isn't secured to anything so it flies up in the air when you sit in the edge. This place never disappoints! This location can get busy during workweek lunch hours but the service is usually pretty quick and the food is always good. Smaller menu but plenty of good options for almost every palete. My go to is the crab cake sandwhich!!! *mouth waters* absolutely delicious, ALWAYS!!! The crab and avo appetizer is also slammin but with so much bread it's kind if hard to follow with a meal. My suggestion is share amongst a group otherwise you'll be too full for anything else. They've added the beyond burger to the menu!! That's a win! But I'd still opt for the crab cake sandwich. Oh did I say the crab cake sandwich was good??? Lol read more

My coworker suggested this place because she absolutely loves the food. So we've visited a few times and had a great time. The restaurant was very cozy, clean and inviting. We've always had IMPECCABLE service any time we've dined at Matchbox. Servers are attentive, friendly and engaging. Shrimp and grits were were a bit lukewarm but despite that they were pretty flavorful. It was the only temperature issue for our entire meal. Crab and Guacamole dish was great with my favorite being the wood-fired bread. My only complaint with this dish is that it looked like they seasoned the bread with a dash of salt and pepper maybe but the guacamole desperately needed a pinch of salt as it was incredibly bland. Maryland Crab Dip is a happy hour special so it's not on the original menu. I wasn't a fan though as It had a more whipped, fluffy cheese consistency and it was a tad saltier than I'd like. The NY Strip steak was good but it wasn't particularly memorable. I did, however, get regular "smashed" potatoes as opposed to the sweet potato side that comes with it. The mashed potatoes had to have been my favorite item on the dish. It was light, creamy, and buttery. I was not disappointed with my choice. Bistro burger was absolutely delicious. I'm a big bread fanatic and they brushed a butter-like sauce on the inside and outside that just set it over the top for me. The burger was juicy and delicious. Mustard Glazed Salmon was cooked perfectly with each ingredient complementing the salmon. But for me, it was the crispy layer that really made the dish. The chicken pesto pizza had a nice buttery, garlic flavor which was enjoyable to eat. Matchbox Meat Pizza was good but didn't feel it was very different from ordering another Meatlovers-ish pizza from another restaurant. Q Special Pizza had to be our least favorite. It came with cremini mushrooms, red peppers, chicken and mozzarella but wes incredibly bland and didn't come out very warm unfortunately. The cornbread by itself is amazing but we decided to get some extra honey butter on the side and indulged a bit. I would definitely go back to try other dishes and maybe convince them to put the cornbread in an 8x8 pan instead! read more
