I love the thin crust pizza here, mostly because I can eat the entire thing and not feel grossly distended, but I swear to god no matter how quickly it's delivered.... it's always cold. Like it's been sitting on a counter for 30 mins cold. I see the Uber eats drivers hanging out at the shop for what seems like ages so I know they're there and ready to pick up the order so where is the disconnect? I need answers! They also for some reason put the pizza directly into the box without parchment paper so the cheese inevitably sticks to the cardboard. They also don't seal their pizza boxes (and in general they seem poorly put together) which maybe contributes to the temperature issue. read more

How do I begin with this review... we went for my birthday dinner. I will start off with the good things first. Which honestly were few and far in between! The bartender and the staff helping him were very nice. He was pleasant and made sure we had everything we needed. However the food was the worst I've had in a very long time. While some of the food presented looked good it was NOT! We ordered an hot appetizer which was spinach and artichoke dip. Looked beautiful. But it was like it was sitting in the back for twenty minutes. The cheese was hard and the dip was not even luke warm. So when he asked if everything was okay I said not really. So he replaced it. Second one was much better than the first! Cheese was soft and melted. Not like a disc like the first. Dinner arrived I ordered the chicken fettuccine, the chicken was so over cooked it was like eating jerky! So I just ate a few bites of the pasta. My daughter ordered the Tuna poke bowl and the rice was under cooked or had dried out that it was crunchy! Needless to say neither one of us finished our food. I did tell the bartender, he offered to get the manager but I was just so over it and disappointed my dinner was ruined for my birthday. My mom and I decided to go to the Pentagon City mall to shop and we're just visiting DC. We decided to try Matchbox and we sat at the bar, ordered our drinks and an appetizer from the Happy Hour menu. Before we received our main entrees, my mom saw a roach moving through the glasses. At first, she wasn't sure if she saw it until she saw it again. We asked the male bartender for the manager and told him what she saw and he said he would take our food off of our check and walked away. While that's great money-wise, that doesn't solve the situation. So when the male bartender asked if we were good, we shook our heads no and I said "there's something moving over there." The bartender said "roaches?" I said "yeah," and he responds, "we try to spray every day." We sat for a minute and I just so happen to see the roach move around a glass. While we're still waiting on the manager to come back over either with our checks or some kind of reassurance that the situation would be handled, and nothing happened except the manager laughing with other waiting staff. We started to get up, and told the bartender that we were waiting on the manager and the manager yells out, "oh yall good! They'll print your check." This goes to show that they're used to having roaches, they're okay with having roaches, and if you see one good luck because they're not going to kill it for you either. It is rare I'll leave a negative review but it would be a disservice to others to not highlight the experiences here. As much as I want to love Matchbox this is the second time I've had less than acceptable service. I entered on a very slow night and the two hosts ignored me for quite a while before saying "yes"...not a "Hey How are you doing?" "Hey how can I help you?"... Not the end of the world but not a warm welcoming greeting. Once we were seated and our waiter took our orders I asked if there was a way to look up the nutritional facts in the meal. The waiter said he didn't understand me and stated probably not. I asked if he could check and he asked me what items I was interested in, and when I told him he just told me what was in the items that was listed on the menu... very unhelpful. He then grabbed a manager. The manager told me I could check the website (which I already stated I did) but that they were not that advanced to know the nutrition in the meals. He recommended to get a salad.. for anyone still reading salads still have nutritional facts and aren't healthy just because it's a salad... Anyways I ordered the Apple salad with shrimp ($22). I asked what kind of seasoning was on the shrimp and the waiter said regular seasoning. I asked him what is that? And he said i don't know. I asked could he just do no seasoning then. which had very little greens/spinach in it, 5 pieces of shrimp 3 thin slices of apple.. very lackluster salad. Met some friends for dinner and we had a GREAT time! The staff here was very friendly and seated us at a nice corner booth on the second floor. I wasn't expecting much from a craft beer standpoint, but enjoyed a nice "tall" glass of the Bell's Two Hearted IPA, which was quite tasty. Our server Lindsay was very helpful and offered a few good suggestions...I opted for the arugula and prosciutto pizza, which was fantastic. Crispy crust, fresh ingredients, and large portion. Excellent dinner experience! Heading home after a daylong road trip, we were looking for a spot to stop for dinner and were able to reserve a table for 2 on Open Table. Upon arrival, we were seated immediately, noticing COVID safety precautions in place, including masks worn by staff and socially distanced seating. Service was prompt and friendly. We ordered burgers, wine and beer. Burgers were perfectly well done, yet still juicy and tasty. We also requested ranch dressing, which was as good as we remembered, and an excellent condiment for the fries. While a patron seated across the way chose to speak in an elevated tone so everyone could hear his conversation, the volume in the restaurant was otherwise mellow. I gotta say that my cucumber gib&tonic was very refreshing after a very humid day here in the DC area. Rain added to that humidity today. I was also surprised that this happy hour drink was made with Aviation Gin, which made this beverage tasty. Happy hour runs M-F, 3-7 and has 7 items to share from wings to calamari and pizzas on special as well as good prices for drafts and cocktails. My gin was a generous pour in a large glass, well worth the $7 I thought. I'd stay for a few more to engage with the very helpful staff but alas I must do some shopping in this very popular Pentagon City location. Very convenient off the Metro line. I came here one weekend with some friends and was pleasantly surprised! They have really cute balcony seating, which was great given covid right now. My friend and I shared the Beyond Sausage Pizza and we got the Lemon Pound Cake French Toast for the table. Both were honestly super yummy. The pizza had a thin crust, was cheesy and the perfect amount for 2 people. The french toast honestly tasted more like a pound cake, but was absolutely delicious. The sauce was great and the strawberries were sweet. As a whole, it was pretty sweet, so I personally wouldn't have ordered that just as a meal. It was a great dessert to share as a table though. Lured in by its convenient location and a coupon for free donuts on their website, we ordered takeout from this restaurant jutting out from the mall on top of the Metro station in Pentagon City. The order was ready quickly within 15 minutes of our order and came packaged neatly in a paper bag and drizzled with utensils, ketchup packets, and mayo packets. Staff who greeted us were masked up and there was plenty of room for us to wait for them to fetch our order without getting too close to diners' tables. The fries were as good as you'd expect, the kind that are slightly on the thicker side. My Crabcake Sandwich tasted fresh and flavorful, with a hearty helping of arugula straddled by some soft (but toasty!) buns. I'm told Bistro Burger was plenty decent as well. The donuts were a bit of a letdown, a bit dull in flavor though the chocolate and fruity dipping sauces helped make up some ground. Hard to complain about it given they were free! Overall, a tasty and filling lunch to bring back to our apartment for this fine Saturday afternoon that we'll probably repeat in the near future. read more

We absolutely loved our visit at Matchbox. This restaurant is charming and it sports an amazing atmosphere. They have reopened and are observing proper Covid protocols. We ordered the wood fired, 14 inch pepperoni, which was a sufficient meal for the two of us. It was cooked perfectly and had an excellent cheese to pepperoni ratio, which is a huge win for us. They have an amazing bar and their signature cocktails are superior. They offer innovative mixes, and they aren't risky to order. Everything I tried was delicious. Now--I must mention the service we received. Our waiter, I believe his name was AJ, gave us the BEST service. He was Jonny on the Spot with our meal, and was constantly at a comfortable distance so we could reach out to him if we needed anything. But, that was never an issue, because he was paying attention and met our needs long before we even realized we needed anything. HH REVIEW ONLY: M-F 3-7pm After a week of rain in DC I was looking for an outdoor Happy Hour to enjoy the awesome weather. I knew Matchbox had an outdoor seating area since I go to Crystal City Mall often and walked in around 5:00pm (Monday). The outdoor seating area was completely empty except for 1 table. However, by 6-630pm the whole place was packed and people were waiting for tables. We ordered a couple of draft beers (all draft beer $5), and for food items, we ordered the Hot Artichoke + Spinach Dip, 3.6.9 Mini Burgers, and the Cremini Mushrooms Pizza. All of the food items we ordered were DELICIOUS. The dip was standard but super tasty and came with great bread for dipping. The 3.6.9 burgers come with a HUGE HEAPING pile of super thin onion straws on top (the sliders were pretty standard). Lastly, the pizza was really good with arugula and a lot of mushrooms (my favorite). The regular dinner menu looked a bit overpriced, and from the other Yelp reviews not that great. However, I would definitely recommend for Happy Hour. Our waiter was also really great about checking up on us on the outside patio. read more

Dropped into this restaurant looking to get some tasty food in the city during a 2-day stay, and this place was minutes from our hotel. Looked it up on here and it seemed to have a decent vibe. Lots of seating, with an up and downstairs and a lovely balcony with seating outside. We started with the arancini for an appetizer. It was tasty, but ill-portioned for sharing. It maybe would've worked better as smaller balls that were greater in number. Our waiter, I believe his name was Kevin, was really nice and suggested the crab cake sandwich which my husband enjoyed. I tried the cornflake old fashioned and was pleasantly surprised; it very much tasted like a bowl of cornflakes! It was a well- made drink and was pretty strong. One drink was perfect for me. As an entree, I had the shrimp linguini. Didn't blow me away, but tasted good, and the bread which i believe was made from the pizza dough, was excellent. This is a must visit restaurant if you're in DC. I got the Matchbox All American Burger. It was perfect and extremely fresh and cooked well. Within minutes of ordering, the food was in front of me. Love love love the speed of this restaurant and how easily it was to come in and get a seat. Special thanks to my waiter, Clayton, for taking special care of my order and getting it out so fast. It was good. If you're hungry shopping at the mall, this is a place to consider. It's got a great location for all of those hungry shoppers who'd prefer not to eat at the food court, like myself. We didn't order much, but spent about two hours there, which was more than I was hoping for. To start, we split spinach artichoke dip. That was a meal in itself, with a pile of tortilla chips as big as my head. The dip had good flavor, with an even ratio of cheese to spinach and artichoke. My boyfriend got a pork belly burger and complained that the pork belly, what seemed to be strictly the fatty part of it, was crispy, thick, and unpleasant to the mouth. Burgers are already pretty fat-loaded and the pork belly overdid it. My crispy chicken cobb salad was okay; the chicken was crispy, which was good, but I wasn't a fan of the cheese, which resembled some sort of Sargento equivalent.
