I used to eat at a Bozzelli Deli in Springfield, across the street from Brookfield Plaza, back in the very early 90's (91 - 93), but haven't been since. So, when I was in the Arlington area and needed to kill some time, I stopped in here because they opened early and I needed to have lunch done by 11AM. They offer pizza, subs, and salads. I opted for their chicken parm sub, as it came with pesto, as well as marinara on it, and I love both of those sauces. The bread was amazing on it! The chicken was perfect size and thickness for a sandwich and the breading and flavor was great. The entire sandwich came together perfectly! As for this venue, it's carryout only, so no seating inside, but there are tables outside along the sidewalk where I sat and ate my food. Overall I thought this was really good! If you're hungering for a no-nonsense "feels like I'm in the Bronx" Italian deli experience in Crystal City, Bozzelli's hits the mark. It has that perfect "neighborhood staple" feel where the focus is clearly on the quality of the ingredients rather than unnecessary frills. I had the Metro Italian (12") which is a beast of a sandwich!! The meat-to-bread ratio is spot on, and you can tell they aren't skimping on the quality of the cold cuts. The bread has that essential crusty exterior while staying soft enough to soak up the oil and vinegar without falling apart. It's a classic Italian sub done exactly the way it should be. Just good luck opening your mouth wide enough to take that first bite! You can't leave an Italian deli without a cannoli, and this one didn't disappoint. The shell was crisp (not soggy!), and the filling was rich and creamy without being overly sweet. It was the perfect finish to a heavy lunch. The shop has a great, authentic energy. It's efficient, which is a must for the Crystal City lunch rush, but they still make you feel like a regular even if it's your first time in. It's easily one of the best spots in the area for a high-quality, reliable meal. I have been hearing about Bozzelli's since even before the pandemic, and I used to work right near it. But would you believe that I just now recently went for the first time? It was night time and I had a party to go to, so I ordered a head online. By the time I got there, it was ready. The restaurant itself is very small and it's definitely a takeout spot, but there are a couple of tables outside. It's perfect when the weather is nice! I was very impressed by the pizza I got -- the Island Time has bacon, pineapple, chili garlic sauce, and marinara. It was absolutely fantastic, from the base cheese and dough to all the other mentioned ingredients. I love a pizza with a nice kick to it! Me and my daughter ordered the 5" pizzas. She got cheese pizza and I customized mine with beef pepperoni, sun dried tomatoes and mushrooms. This is a small deli that serves some delicious food that includes wings, subs and pizzas. There is metered street parking within a reasonable walking distance and a parking garage right next door. They offer ordering ahead, which I recommend taking advantage of. The deli is small inside and has a couple of refrigerators with canned a bottled drinks and pre packaged sides. They also sell adult beverages, if that is your thing. You will find a couple of tables to sit and eat at on the patio on the front sidewalk. That is where I posted up. The guy that was working the counter was very friendly and helpful. I ordered a Boom Boom Chicken Pizza. It took about 10 minutes for me to get my pie. It was simply delicious. My thoughts about this place is that it's a little overhyped. This is a small mom and pop kinda place - and I loved that! What I did appreciate was the fact that when I walked in I walked straight to the cashier and asked what are the 2 best selling sandwiches. She said chicken Parmesan and the meatball. I'm not a meatball kind of girl so I got the chicken parm. I asked about the wait; she said 7 minutes - I got my sandwich in less than 5. This is amazing service! I also got the caramel cookie because she said that was very good. Now the food... I took a bite and it was hard. I expect the chicken to be crispy in a chicken parm - but not hard. Maybe it was over cooked? When I got towards the center it wasn't as hard. It did have good flavor but the piece of chicken is very thin - so it being hard made it difficult to enjoy. It was also dry. So in this case, had they cooked it for less time and added more sauce, this could have been great. Walked past Bozzelli's a couple times and it looked good. Was staying at nearby hotel and on the last day decided to go for breakfast. Got the egg and sausage sandwich on rye with the hash browns and coffee. That was a tasty sandwich. This place is one of those order online or at kiosk but it worked well. The folks were quick and friendly. This one only has outside seating. So if the weather is nice you can eat there. Otherwise be prepared to take it to go. Recently visited DC in August in Remembrance of my grandmother and this local eatery was walking distance from my hotel. I saw advertisements in our hotel room and thought, why not. So, on a 5minute stroll we, made it. Its a small spot but very busy. While looking over the menu, atleast 3 or 4 uber eats drivers did order pickups. The inside is fairly small but they have about 5tables with chairs. We got a bottle of wine to take back to the hotel and had a couple of spritzers with our food.. our food was really delish!! The butter garlicky wings and the artesian style pizza was definitely a winner. I definitely recommend n should we take at the particular hotel on my next visit ,cause I gotta come bac, I will absolutely be eating here, again.. N although they were very busy, they still explained menu items, welcomed US to the city and gave suggestions on places to go. read more

Great subs! We grabbed a Metro Italian sub on the way to the airport on our last day in Virginia. Dang! Why didn't I try this place sooner?! It was busy but worth the squeeze. I would've preferred just a little more meat on the sub for the price, but still a delicious sandwich. Small place, but came here for takeout so it didn't matter. Had lots of desserts and salads ready made and the pizza took 10-15 minutes to make. The salads were good, but the pizza was amazing. The white pizza (spinach and artichoke and mozzarella) was to die for, I literally ate the whole thing by myself in one sitting. The spinach and artichoke made this pizza so special and delicious, and the crust was amazing as well. The pizzas also come in this cute boxes where you can make a bib out of them. Absolutely unacceptable. We ordered takeout from this place and ended up with diarrhea shortly after eating. It was obvious the staff weren't wearing gloves while preparing the sandwiches, major red flag for food safety. For the price they charge, you'd expect at least basic hygiene. The food itself was nothing special: bland, greasy, and poorly made. This place used to be decent, but now it's just overpriced and unsanitary. The staff are rude too. Never going back. read more

It's convenient to hotels at Crystal City and opened late enough that you can walk there under a cool night. It's mild here right now, so not bad walking from the hotel either way. Desserts are a bit absurdly priced but the sandwiches were reasonably priced (yes, I'm accounting for DC prices and inflation). So glad that this is literally right under my apartment. If you're in Crystal City, this is a great Italian deli. If you're from the tri-state area like me, don't expect NYC style pizza, but rather think of this place as a great dinner fix if you're looking for a sub or a pizza -- it's definitely better than Dominos. Because I'm a resident of Concord Crystal City, it's amazing that they offer 50% off pizza on Monday nights for large pizzas with two toppings. Not sure if this is open to the general public but if it is, you HONESTLY cannot go wrong with a pizza for less than $10! I've tried different combos of two toppings: pepperoni and basil, sausage and mushroom, and meatball and mushroom. I've got to say, to each their own, but their mushroom and meatball pizza was absolutely amazing and memorable!! The other two were okay. Their pizza boxes are also super cute. You can rip off the perforated edges to turn yourself into an astronaut (their motto is "Make Space for Pizza" lol) I know they advertise their chicken sandwich as one of their top menu options. Though I have lived in Crystal City for 6 months, I have yet to try to chicken sandwich on my next dinner run. Located off Crystal Drive and next to the Hyatt Regency. There's no indoor seating but on a nice day, they have a couple tables right out front of the store along Crystal Drive. Immediately greeted with a smile and any assistance placing your order. I opted for the Chicken Parm Sandwich and it did not disappoint. The chicken, the breading, and the whole presentation compliments the tastiness, which makes me glad this establishment is right around the corner within a few steps from the office. This is a gemstone that I came across the last time I visited DC. Definitely a place where locals go to grab a quick lunch. You can sit at the couple of tables outside, but the inside is set up for quick grab and go service with a huge selection of sodas, beer and wine. I went to Bozzelli's with my father for a lunch outing. I have never been here before but I decided to try something new. The menu is very diverse and has a wide range of salads, wraps, subs, and pizzas. One important thing to mention is that they do not have indoor seating. They have about 20 seats outside but depending on the weather you decide. A majority amount of people ordered for carry out. Me and my dad chose to order in store and wait and it only took about 12 minutes. My dad got a steak and cheese sandwich and I got the Fugetaboutit pizza. The pizza was delicious and my dad said it was a really good cheesesteak sandwich. The cannoli was absolutely amazing. This place isnt much to look out, its small, dim and crowded with all the items they have. Its Important to note - this place is super small, only outside seating with maybe 12 seats. We were able to get a table but have a backup plan in case you dont All that said - i orded a pesto salad, a pizza and a lemon bar. And the lemon bar and pizza were brought out quickly and was tasty. Competitive pricing and nice sized portions. The pesto salad was okay but odd - the pesto wasnt great as a dressing replacement. I ordered the gluten free pizza with no cheese to accommodate a gluten and dairy free allergy. The pizza crust was really hard. I've had a fair number of gf pizzas (including in Italy) and this was not great. I also ended us having a reaction so the cross contamination is going to be a problem for those of us who have a serious intolerance. To be fair, they don't state that they have a safe kitchen. I stumbled upon Bozzelli's while I was staying in a nearby hotel for business. It was a Sunday and quite a few businesses seemed closed or closed early so I looked on Yelp. I browsed through the reviews and menu and there I saw it......a Vegan Above and Beyond pizza. That's all it took for me to call and order one for take out. The Vegan Above and Beyond pizza for those that don't know features Beyond meat crumbles and vegan cheese as well as some very tasty veggies all cooked perfectly on a thin or regular crust. I opted for regular crust and it was crispy but not burned. When I placed my take out order the employee let me know the time frame, about 10 minutes for take out. I arrived a bit ahead of time and browsed through the store. It is small but has some indoor and outdoor seating. They also have a very nice selection of craft beer and some wines available. I chose to sample a decent Brut IPA in a bottle while I waited for my pizza to be finished. The indoor seating is small but well decorated and I found my eye wandering here and there to see the art and different beer and wines they have available. I could certainly see myself enjoying a meal inside or outside Bozzelli's. I took my pizza back to my room and dug in. I really enjoyed the flavors but one of the reasons I subtracted a star was when the vegan cheese is warm it sticks to my teeth. I can't stand that. I don't know what brand it is but for me that detracts from the pizza. There are quite a few varieties of vegan cheese being produced now that doesn't stick to ones teeth when hot, perhaps they could explore those options.
