Food was very good. We enjoyed all the dishes plus the delicious bread. The wine list is extensive and service is great. Prices are on the higher side but it was worth it.

I came to close out Litchfield's 2023 Restaurant Week, and it was a delicious decision. If you are dining alone, as I found myself, you can make reservations online for one being seated at the bar. These reservations seem to be limited to Friday through Sunday. The outside has a pond and babbling river behind the parking lot, and the interior is very elegantly decorated in grays. My primary server was Chris at the bar, and he was incredibly friendly and welcoming. He made sure as a bar sitter, I didn't feel rushed or in the way. The menu required a little bit of googling, but eventually I found the most delicious meal. The burratina with roasted carrots and adorably cut cubes of beet was creamy and refreshing. The pasta, spaghetti cacio e pepe, was so cheesy without being too much. Just when you thought there were no hits of cheese, bam, there is was! Finally, the meal concluded with a tiramisu. If you like coffee, you'll love this tiramisu. The puffs of ricotta were amazing for those of us who don't like the coffee as much.

I'm going to just highlight the positive 5-star details. Lemon pomegranate and rose petal Mocktail was wonderful and at a great price point. We went during "Taste of Litchfield" week, so the food was from the prix fixe menu. Salad dressing on the romaine was spot on. Beet salad was Earthy, organic, and beautiful. Pasta was peppery spiced and cooked perfectly, Duck was crispy, and the accompaniments paired well. Tiramisu was excellent. The floral arrangements were eye-catching.

We had always heard great things about Materia, so my fiancé and I decided to visit tonight to celebrate one year until we're married! The dining room was very chic, and the staff was all very professional and attentive. We had an amazing caprese salad to start with some of the best bufala mozzarella we've ever had, and then chose two dishes from the primi section. Truthfully we did intend these both to be our main meals, but decided to split the beef tenderloin special afterwards as we didn't quite realize how small the portions were. Now that we know, we'll make sure to order differently next time with less sharing and not being afraid to order multiple dishes as different courses. The flavors of the food really blew us away, and everything was very high-quality, including the desserts. I was grateful that we made a reservation because the dining room capacity is on the smaller side, and there was an influx of people between 7-8pm. We were so impressed by the food that we hope to come back after we're married to celebrate our anniversaries or other special occasions. It's easy to see why they won the award for best new restaurant last year from the Connecticut Restaurant Association!

My husband and I went here for our wedding anniversary! The staff is amazing and will walk you through your experience, this was our first time at this kind of restaurant and definitely will be going back! The Crazy award was definitely well deserved. Food was amazing

While the entire meal started off with a salad, of course, the next appetizer was the tagliatelle Bolognese and the pasta was definitely the main star of the dish. I could tell that the pasta was homemade as it was very light and flavorful. The Bolognese itself was well balanced and not acidic. I chose the lamb for dinner and I was very happy with the port wine reduction, and impressed with the light compliment of the sunchoke puree. The herb crust executed on the lamb was extremely flavorful and not too earthy. While I was really going back-and-forth between the Seabass and the lamb I am happy. I chose the lamb for the main course. Panna cotta for dessert and I'm happy I chose a lighter option to fishing the evening. I feel like after all of the courses I had the Panna cotta really completed the meal. It was perfectly silky. I could tell the cream was delicately infused with lemon and the blackberry couli was a nice touch to add a level of flavor to the dessert which didn't overpower the panna cotta itself. Overall, I'm really impressed. Especially since I was in attendance with a large party. All of our dishes came out in a timely manner and were well spaced to really appreciate each dish. The cocktail menu and the wine selection was also very impressive and I feel like the amount of options were well balanced, many of which would complement each dish. Our service was great! The servers were friendly, personable, and very prompt with bringing out each dish. I especially appreciated how authentic each server was. The girls we had were especially helpful in assisting us in our selections in which options to choose off the menu based on their favorites. Overall, I would highly recommend coming to this restaurant if you want, authentic, flavorful, and delicious homemade Italian dishes. I can tell the chef puts time and effort into each plate not only in building these flavors but also presentation. Coming here, would be great for dates, special events, anniversaries, and to have a nice night out with the family, friends, and someone special.

Second visit for a family birthday last night and they exceeded our first fantastic impression…read more Service is unmatched. The feel is literally as if we are in a Tuscan farm home. There is not a more welcoming and comfortable place I can think of. The food backs it up - which is the main point. My only suggestion for first-time diners, perhaps ask your server if the chef will consider delaying courses a bit. In our group of four, we wanted to try/share 4 different apps and a meat and cheese board. Because of their dedication to a promptly and accurately coursed meal, all four apps and the boar all arrived at the time time (by design). Makes it really uncomfortable at the table with so many plates. But if that's my only gripe - that's all you need to know. This Is A Must Go!!! My favorite restaurant around.

The people…read moreat the farm suggested that we go into Litchfield for a variety of eating choices, and they were right! What drew us to di Franco's was the lovely patio out front, with lots of round tables shaded by bright umbrellas. We weren't looking for an Italian meal necessarily, it was lunch on a hot day rather than a leisurely evening dinner, and diFranco's has a pretty decent selection of sandwiches and salads for lunch in addition to the traditional Italian specialties you'd expect. My husband chose the salmon burger and was quite pleasantly surprised that he didn't get a salmon "burger!" He got a nice sized portion of actual grilled salmon on a bun with greens and I think tomato, plus a plate full of thin, crisp, addictive fries! It's on the menu as Cajun but he asked for no Cajun spices, and it says tartar sauce on the sandwich but he asked for that on the side. He said the salmon was really delicious . I ordered the tuna melt with avocado. This came on thinly sliced crisp toast and it was very tasty, if a little wetter than I usually prefer tuna salad. This also came with those wonderful fries; I NEVER finish a whole portion of fries but I ate every single piece today, they were that good. FWIW, I used hub's tartar sauce on the side for dipping my fries (I'm not a ketchup fan). We just had cold water to drink, and the server was gracious even though all we ordered were those sandwiches. We saw ample salads on other tables. The place was busy outside, empty inside, but it was a gorgeous day and the shaded tables were inviting - good for sitting and relaxing a bit, plus people watching! Inside, the restrooms were clean, but more than that they are noteworthy for the handicapped accessibility. I had a cousin whose MS caused her to need a wheelchair and she'd have been pleased with the space and the grab bars. Maybe it's code, but my experience has been that it's rarely this well followed. So if you or someone you dine out with has the need, consider diFranco's for the accessible restrooms as well as the food! Note that they were offering a discount for cash. The dinner menu looked good but I can only vouch for the high quality of the lunch. Try it if you're in or near Litchfield CT.

She was outstanding (I wish I had gotten her name). She moved with purpose, had a smile, and even put up with some generational jokes and banter at the other table with appropriate humor, patience, and without eye rolls. She was great. 1 star earned for clearly being a family place serving the community. There were family holiday cards on the wall upon walking in - perhaps multiple generations of family working in the kitchen, and the place is clearly a source of pride. It is spotless. Recently remodeled in a very safe and neutral tone - but I'd literally eat food off the floor clean. All of the above makes me want to go back soon. And I will. .5 stars earned for BYOB. I do not partake, but when I did "BYOB," I would have loved and appreciated coming here with a bottle of Chianti and enjoyed. Really really great. Earning our final .5 stars, unfortunately, is the food. I happen to be in the business so I was concerned when I saw Restaurant Depot brand plastic wraps and retail store paper plates behind the counter. The soda cooler is also not from a Pepsi distributor as they do not want to deal with cans. So this leads me to they are also purchased retail and stocked. That's not a problem, but it lets me know the through-put does not warrant them getting from a food service distributor who has minimums on weekly orders. I ordered cautiously: a small garden salad (was BEAUTIFULLY plated) was $9!! And wet. Fried calamari (also came to my table with some much hope - it was GORGEOUS) had soggy rings, cold in the middle tentacles, and a tasteless marinara. All of the breading fell off of the wet seafood and I left it on the plate for the kitchen to see and hopefully learn from $13. And a small cheese pizza for $11 that was good. It was light a fluffy which was weird for me. But it was cooked well and was the runner-up highlight of the experience (service was the best). I saw very nice looking pasta dishes go out to tables, so I will Order one next time I go. I don't think the chefs were formally trained based on some of the technique stumbles today and I noticed the pastas that went out to other tables were not tossed in the sauces they were with. The ample accompaniments were plated on top. But I will reserve judgement until I try myself. All in all. It was ok. I'll continue to support the family run place happily as long as the service and effort that was clear today are still there.
